New Hayesalia Central (OPEN*)

Postby New Hayesalia » Tue May 31, 2016 4:12 am

OOC Introduction: There's all too many situations where NationStates tensions spread across threads and impact nations uninvolved in the accompanying thread. I for one would like to have a New Hayesalian flag flying over all events of impact and as such I have started this thread which you can use as a reference point on how the NH Government, Military, news organisations and people look at the situations impacting the world.

As such, while I will accept government telegrams and communiques, news stories and individual's reactions as posts; posts that impact the thread in a physical way (eg, flying a bomber over a New Hayesalian Navy carrier) should be taken in a new thread - please TG me!

While you're at it, please join my Embassy program linked in the signature.

PRIME MINISTER'S OFFICE, REVNAMI

Making the daily drive from the Prime Minister's Official Residence at Point Luhas House to the Parliament Complex was a chore but an adventure. The Parliament building itself was large though a minnow against the supertall structures in the blue-grey metropolis of Revnami. Separated from the Parliament Complex by the stunningly smooth Lake Neike the skyline glistened, with the Jae Snider Bridge taking Capital Highway 1 into the central business district. Standing tallest and in the lakefront the Capital Life Building breathed life into the shining city.

The Prime Minister's office took a large part of the top floor of the Parliament Building, the Senate and House of Representatives located in the large interior chambers of the building. It was from here that the red-haired and tiring Prime Minister Edwin Bolt would enjoy his morning coffee, looking over this grand capital. Each morning began with a short drive from the Point Luhas House, escorted of course by a considerable National Police and Royal Montmarian Guard escort convoy, before pulling astride the 15-storey building, a frosted glass impression of the New Hayesalian Coat of Arms bearing across the structure. Sometimes protesters would meet the PM's morning arrivals, other times supporters and civilians enamoured for pictures. Today, it had been the latter.

Bolt's schedule today was not a particularly busy one. While an election was to happen in the early part of next year and poll numbers were not as high as liked, it was a matter for Conservative Party headquarters to be concerned with. This morning's security briefing was already accomplished and there were few meetings with major players today - in fact, only the intelligence service had a meeting with the PM this morning, with his receptionist calling through their arrival promptly at 8:30 am.

In the waiting room, four black-suited and rather generic types sat armed with briefcases and folders. The Royal Montmarian Guardsman who stood aside the door to the Prime Minister's Office - a member of the gendarmerie organisation in charge of the PM's personal security - would of thought nothing of them.

But indeed these four were agents of the Foreign Intelligence Directorate, New Hayesalia's foreign intelligence gathering service. A part of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs their duty was spread across diplomatic posts and special posts, as well as local jobs. The topic today was a new and rather unique militant group. The 'Homofront' had been growing in stature and claimed responsibility for a number of attacks in the name of LGBT rights.

The Guardsman allowed the four entry, and they approached the Prime Minister's desk at the end of the hall. A shake of the hands and introduction proceeded the four sitting on the long couch and providing briefing documents to the Prime Minister. It was very clearly marked with a red "Top Secret - NH Eyes Only" and the agents opening the briefcases did find themselves needing to recall a few codes. The initial briefings covered known leadership, organisation, goals and similar information.

"The simple fact is, sir," continued the Senior Agent "Homofront has branches we know of in Inyuristan, New Edom and Nova Syla. We further suspect branches in a number of smaller, authoritarian states. The ones that we would be most concerned about are the Cathedral and Massena, particularly as they border or very nearly border our Rozanian claim."

"Do we expect them to target us?" Bolt cut in, looking over photos of known Homofront personnel.

"Not particularly. Our record on LGBT rights is very good and as such we are not a target."

A pause.

"The Defence Minister did speak with us earlier about this issue. We believe there is an opportunity in all this."

"How do you mean, Agent?" the PM replied, peering up from the notes.

"Senator Dray put forward the idea of supporting particular Homofront branches to support our efforts in Rozania, as well as impact New Edomite and Inyuristan security priorities if they go ahead with the COASTAL accords." The Agent was certainly forward, and this surprised the politician. "We have a basis of information, but no major investments in time or resources at this time."

The Prime Minister considered the situation before proceeding.

"Interesting concept."

He paused.

"Can you put some diplomatically-placed assets into research positions? Find out who the local contacts are, get some information on capabilities, et cetera?"

"Certainly, sir. We can assign an extra agent to our Embassy in Fineberg and redirect some in Massena."

"Well done." the PM replied, before standing. The agents rose also and began collecting papers. With handshakes the PM sent the four to report to their headquarters, bidding them a fine morning. He returned to his desk, taking a glance at the bridge and the SunLift gondolas before diving into ministerial briefing notes for the next half hour - the next meeting was never too far away.

Female Pilots Awarded Medals For Bagging Abbzan
6 APR 2016

Lieutenant Alyssa Hutchstone is an SH-60B pilot stationed aboard the VNS Nephilim. She has been paired with an allied Khalifiyan pilot, 3rd Lieutenant Sonya Alawi. Vangaziland and the newly installed government of Al-Khalifiya have begun a training program that pairs up some of the junior Khalifiyan flight officers with Vannish crews.

It would turn out that this two women crew would have a date with destiny on one such training exercise. It was this flight team that got the call to take out General Abbzan. The SH-60B Seahawk helicopter rushed from its position over the ocean, located the correct vehicle and engaged it from miles away.

"We were doing anti-submarine training over the sea when the call came in", Lt. Hutchstone said in a brief statement. "We reacted like any crew would. We've fulfilled the gunship role and launched Hellfires before, so this wasn't anything new."

By the morning's sunlight, Commodore Henry Lattermore had flown over from a Vannish carrier in order to host a quick award ceremony for the two female pilots.

Lt. Hutchstone was awarded the Royal Imperial Cross, Vangaziland's highest military medal. It was for the skillful manner in which she quickly located the target. The SUV could have easily disappeared into the night. A drone had been filming and following from above, but it took skillful navigation and speedy piloting to catch the Seahawk up to the 4x4 quickly enough.

3rd. Lt. Alawi was awarded the Foreign Star for her part in the mission, handling communications and operating sensors in order to facilitate the assault.

"We thought about not releasing the identity of the pilots", Commodore Lattermore told an embedded reporter. "But this is a good story for the Vannish Navy, the new Khalifiyan government and for women in the military."

Vannish Foreign Legion Knee Deep in It
1 JUN 2016

3rd battalion, 2nd Vannish Foreign Legion Regiment has been in Al-Khalifiya for 2 months now. They have worked with the people of Fire Valley, bringing them supplies, helping them make repairs to their settlements, and upgrading their militia.

Surplus m-16's were handed down to the militia commander, who passed the weapons onto military age males. For the next few weeks, the Legionnaires taught the militia some advanced shooting drills, like ready-ups or urban movement. Based on what the Vangazi saw, there hadn't been much formal training in the militia.

Lt. Matt Joneston has been working with militia leadership to build a program. and establish daily training. He gave him all the info he needs to run the militia like a garrison. The soldiers' skills must be sharpened every day.

But of course, they spent a good deal of time on patrol or in combat. This is major 'Red Wind' territory, which is the terror group that attacked Vangaziland and is fighting the change of the new, Pro-Vangaziland government.

So far the legion has lost 8 people and has had 21 wounded. It's tough on the soldiers here.

"The average soldier tries to keep his cool", said SGT Jose Garcia. "We know the Fire Valley is important. Hopefully we get rid of all the bad guys and this place can prosper."

"3-2 Foreign Legion is doing exactly what they need to do. They're building ties with the locals and putting the heat on the enemy", said General H. Applebind. "Their unit Is one of many that are over here, doing its part."

A response for both Tides of Change and The Fishing Dispute.

CONFERENCE ROOM A, PRIME MINISTER'S OFFICE

The Assembly of the Cabinet was a matter of prime importance. The oval table, topped each end by the Prime and Deputy Prime ministers, was matched with white leather seats each filled by a major minister. Live feeds of information were given by televisions, and non-political experts were aligned on the far wall in chairs in front of a black metal sculpture. The Parliament Complex in it's bustling glory was out the window with this part of southern Revnami clearly on display.

The Acting Chief of Navy, Vice Admiral Robert Harrison, was providing the brief. There were two surface task groups of ships conducting freedom of navigation missions at the moment, one in Greater Nihon and the other in the waters south of Inyurstan's San Meresque strip. And indeed, shit was hitting the fan. The situation in Nihon was rapidly growing in threat, with the ships having been buzzed in a dangerous way and closing on their 13 nautical mile limit, the New Hayesalian Ambassador having been summoned to a meeting with the leader of that nation. Short of a rapid, overwhelming and unlikely attack, those ships were continuing their operation.

The reality was more sobering in Inyurstan. That sort of attack had taken place and now only the NHS Prince Kerr having escaped major damaged. Two nuclear powered warships were now sinking, another dead in the water. Hundreds of sailors were now being picked up by the crew of the miniscule Prince Kerr, both vessels having surrendered. They had met the NH Military's restrictions - that any other option would mean certain death. Almost certainly, to not surrender to these psychos would be to sign a death warrant. Indeed when the rolls were checked, 201 sailors would be found dead and others maimed by attacking a deliberately peaceful vessel, conducting innocent passage in illegally claimed waters.

"People," the Prime Minister began, his gravelled voice immediately recognisable. "This is perhaps the greatest threat to this nation's defence. A sovereign, and indeed strong nation, has commenced an attack on a New Hayesalian Navy task force and has been successful. This was a risk we'd considered and this is the worst case scenario. First, the Battle of Kord must be our first priority. These are allied nations and this presents a massively increased risk. If one attacks, the other may."

"Prime Minister," spoke the Foreign Minister, "Ambassador Natamoto is about to meet the Shogun. I think we should await further information from her. She's been made aware of the current situation."

"Good, Lauretta."

Other ministers poke up raising points decent and uselsss. The Prime Minister came to the general conclusion of his minister's - wait for Natamoto.

Focus turned to the Battle of Tinios task force. The white flag was flying, RHIBs finding sailors and resucing them, treating the most badly wounded and awaiting the response of the ICG or their ships to conduct a rescue, as international law and maritime custom demanded. The priority would be the recovery of the sailors, but sometimes priorities fall to realities. Quite possibly the New Haysalian Government could go to war over this incident. Already the Ready Response Group and the special forces implements of New Hayesalia were being quietly brought to higher readiness, knowing this could be a deciding part of New Hayesalia's future.

As the time ticked and options were discussed, the Military came to higher readiness, the nation's G-SAMS network taking heed and the advanced elements of the defence infrastructure coming online. New Hayesalia was fuming, ready to strike back if the need came.

Formation of the Female Action and Engagement Team - FEAT

Postby New Hayesalia » Thu Sep 15, 2016 1:55 am

some months ago
NIEKE MILITARY OFFICES, REVNAMI

The parade at the Military Offices had been scheduled for 11am and it would start on the very dot. The city shone in the background of the lake of the same name, and New Hayesalian flags and ensigns flew proudly alongside the Parade Foreground of the Military headquarters of New Hayesalia, the cleaned cement ready for marching troops. This parade was one establishing a brand new unit, and a dias and shrouded banner were ready and awaiting the arrival of reviewing officers.

Waiting around the corner were 150 members of a new special forces unit, all previously qualified at the Commando Training Course which was the starting point for all special forces units. They wore, generally, the khaki-tan dress uniform of the New Hayesalian Army, though a few special candidates wore that of the Marines with a single person in the Air Force's blue. All but the banner party and the officers in charge carried the Ripper Mk3 rifle as they stood at ease, their officers including Major 'W.' They distinctly wore the black beret of their fellow special forces units but they had a key difference.

All 150 members of this unit were female.

This 100% female special forces unit was to be tasked with everything that the Commando units could do, giving them essentially a standard as a jack (or jill) of all trades. Their femininity was a tool for particular cases, and could be used. Cultural differences and matters of concern for special operations units could be better addressed with the use of female forces as necessary, and their high level of skills would allow them to easily support other special operations units.

There was only military media here, and it was a small ceremony. This unit, called FEAT, was the new Female Action and Engagement Team, and they would be called into service sooner, rather than later.

The Army band in the rear of the parade ground began a stripped down version of the Military March as the parade began, and this company of women took the first steps in the history of an equally historic unit.

CONFERENCE ROOM A, PARLIAMENT COMPLEX

"The analysis from Natamoto matches what we suspected. He is an ultranationalist with a militaristic bent and there are no checks and balances to prevent his deployment of forces. The extent of his determination to counter a foreign military presence of any nation were, until this incident, thought to be less than what it is."

The analysis from the Foreign Intelligence Directorate made a new reality clear. The Shogun of Nihon had gone off the rails, and killed New Hayesalians to do it. It appeared that this nationalist streak was being matched by Inyursta, who saw perhaps an opportunistic capability when Nihon took action. NH was on two fronts. The assembled Cabinet were enclosed by the frosted glass that usually looked out over Revnami, but now this grand view was obscured for national security.

Bolt sat and took the assembled through the options. Right now, a response was out of the question. Both nations had New Hayesalian sailors as prisoners of war, and though the ships were lost they may still be recovered. That, and any attack too offensive to these nations would stop any hope of a cooperative repatriation and quite possibly see retaliation against the sailors. Both ambassadors had indicated that the nations would be likely to repatriate the sailors, and already neutral nations were being considered to send aircraft to retrieve the sailors.

The Cabinet watched also the propaganda reports, being fed in by the FMAO - Foreign Media Analysis Organisation - helicopters flew over sinking warships, and this image would fuel an outrage against Bolt's government. His tenure had been violence-fraught and his management was being criticised more and more every day. Already, protestors and mourners were coming to the Parliament Complex, riot cops on standby in on-site barracks.

Assuming the sailors would return, Bolt ran a serious risk.

Would he retaliate thereafter and risk a costly war - or would he kneel to this punch in the nose? To say the loose actions of two SACTO countries will have killed his political career is an understatement. The most crucial foreign policy decision in New Hayesalian history was in progress, and Edwin Bolt stood at the helm of it.

REVNAMI
Firmness denotes the resistance of the will in relation to the force of a single blow... - von Clausewitz

The Cabinet meeting in the Conference Room was enclosed by a sculpture, by a bank of information on screens, and frosted glass windows that normally would overseee the Revnami metropolis and the glassy Lake Nieke.

"These demands are pretty far out there, chaps." read the Minister for Resources, Shea Lacy.

"They're deserved." replied Senator Seiber, the Finance Minister, one of the Conservative Party's hardline elements.

"But they won't be met!" called another, the Communications minister Alden Rode.

"Enough!" called Bolt, who'd been considering the papers till now.

The room quietened. Officials and advisers along the wall calmed and his members stared at him in waiting. "The demands are unlikely to be met but they make us clear. I'd have thought you, Seiber, would know a thing or two about speaking your mind."

The PM stood.

"I have a dozen Ambassadors in urgent meetings, securing us guarantees and support in the courses of actions that we've outlined. Already we have the backing of the Vannish, and the Cathedral, and the Zellatians."

He stopped, checking his government-issued phone. He smiled as he saw the text from an Ambassador Lennus.

"And we have the backing of the Protectorate."

The room took a breath. Military power was now the secured territory of the New Hayesalians. The announcement would not be made as the prisoners of war were still in holding, but Bolt's Cabinet were more united. Sabre rattling would come later but though New Hayesalia was bleeding from the nose, she was already reaching for her silver bullet.

LETTER TO THE WORLD

Image

On this day the New Hayesalian Navy has been illegally attacked, and sailors have been killed in one of the most egregious acts of war ever
committed against this nation.

The world is already aware of New Hayesalia's position on the matter of the illegal sea claims of Greater Nihon and Inyurstan which destabilise
region, endanger civil shipping, and may welcome in a new age of privateering and violence. This matter is particularly important to us, as a
maritime state.

We demand as of today that all sailors in the captivity of these two nations are released and repatriated, as are the recovered remains of sailors
killed, via airlift provided by the Naval Service of the Anglican Republic of the Cathedral.

We demand additionally that the captured vessels, the NHS Glen Callanan, Freeman Schneller, Battle of Kord and Prince Kerr I
are returned to the control of the New Hayesalian Navy and remain either in port or anchored in place until such a time as New Hayesalian or aligned
salvage vessels are sent to recover the aforementioned vessels. Use of these vessels for any purpose will be considered an act of theft.

We further demand that reparations to the amount of $7bn NSD be paid to the New Hayesalian Government, to be negotiated between the two erring
nations as a result of this illegal action.

We further demand that the two nations withdraw their exorbitant claims to the sea, which are the common heritage of mankind and not the possession
of unruly states.

We note that failure to meet these demands will result in further sanctions and consequences being enacted against these two nations by New Hayesalia
and her numerous allies, who trust and believe in New Hayesalia's global leadership principles.

Postby The Unified Isles » Tue Oct 04, 2016 12:40 pm

The recent Sea Claims by Nihon, despite happening hundreds of leagues away from the safety of the Isles, had ignited a spark of conflict in her politics. Interestingly, for once, it wasn't Parliament and Military fighting each other over petty matters of control, but rather an internal dispute within the Royal Army. Normally, these conflicts within the Army would stay within the Army, true to the principle dictated by her founder “One wall against disorder”.

General Leighton-Pierce, the Chief-of-Staff, had long been called an “Egocentric Authoritarian”. Nevertheless, Leighton-Pierce was a prominent person, despite having worked up his way more through clever intrigue than by merit. He was of aristocratic descent, a wealthy person, and an unbelievably manipulative person. The Chief-of-Staff's plans seemed clear to everybody: A Coup d'Etat. Reinstate the Status Quo before 1936, reinstate the Military Dictatorship, the Isle'ish Empire. His enemies, both the ones in Parliament and the ones within the rows of the Military had their hands tied: The Parliament couldn't legally cashier the Chief-of-Staff, and Leighton-Pierce was the highest-ranking Officer within the Royal Army.

The Military was mostly split: There were the ones that wanted to return to the “Age of Glory” which the General was promising, while others feared that another failed Coup might lead to a total dissolution of their beloved Royal Army, and instead called for a reconciliation with Parliament. It was few days after the Nihonese attack on the Haleysian Ships that somebody spoke up that rarely did so. A certain Lt. General Ramsey, better know as “The Pirate General” for his distinguishing eye-patch, a feature he had gained whilst fighting in the late years of the Crisk Civil War. Ramsey had never been interested in politics, and worked his way up in the chain of command by pure merit. He was in many was the exact opposite of Leighton-Pierce, an honest, well-respected man.

On 2nd of October, the following statement of him was posted in the “King's Mirror”, the Isles most popular independent news magazine, know for it's sometimes crucial influence in politics:

“[Reader's Letter from Lt. Gen. Sir Frank Ramsey, currently Commandant of the III Guard's Armoured Corps].
All the Lord's blessings upon thee,

I am aware that I have the utmost respect of many people not only within the Royal Army, but also within the Republican Groups. I am also aware that many consider me an apolitical person, or even worse, idiotic. Whoever believes the latter must also believe that truly anything meritocratic that the Army once had has been lost in the years since the Christmas Revolution and the End of the Imperial Century. As somebody who might be considered an expert on these matters, I sadly have to deny (If not due to self-protection, I fear). What I can safely state though is that there is a clear group that is trying to make us devoid of the, say, 'Horatian Spirit' that made us so glorious.

Yes, I'm talking about Sir Henry [Gen. Leighton-Pierce] and his baggage.

Now, I don't want to go into detail about Sir Henry's policies, but I like to highlight one mistake I believe he's making: His attitude towards Nihon. Now, don't get me wrong, I don't have a aversion towards the Nihonese Friends, I'd even like to call them my 'Beloved Brothers-in-Arms' one day in the future. I'm afraid I have to swing a little further out for that. Our glorious Founder once said 'When two fight, the third shall celebrate'. What this is supposed to mean is that in a fight between two nation, the negotiator will always end up being the strongest, the diplomatic victor, no matter what. This has for many years been the diplomatic stance of the Horatian Regime, but Sir Henry, trying to replicate the latter, has somehow forgotten about it. Instead he does his, I seriously have to apologize for this term, [Word retracted by redaction] policy towards Nihon, making us inferior to them.

I can no longer tolerate this. I hope that somebody will soon make certain decisions regarding his fate, and that Nihon and New Haleysia both get out of their conflict stronger than before.

Towards both these glorious nations, I'd like to additionally state that they both can count on my personal support, and that I'd gaily help them negotiate a peaceful solution to their discord.”

Sir Henry Leighton-Pierce has not yet made a statement towards Lt. Gen. Ramsay's allegations. The High Lord's [Negotiating Instance between Parliament and Military] are currently examining whether a forced retirement due to non-compliance to the treaties between Parliament and Military might be possible for him.

UNIVERSITY OF OPPENTIN HALL, OPPENTIN, PILTOMANA

Studio lights bared down on nine podiums, brown wood with New Hayesalia's flag standing in front of nine political candidates. Black screens over purple backgrounds bore hashtags and social media comments, the logo of Union 24 News, and the text announcing it as the 'Final Election Debate.' Topics already had been challenged, ranging from immigration, the environment, economic issues and the like. The nine candidates were leaders of political parties in the House of Representatives. The smallest parties were the odd ones out, and knew that even for their own safety they would not have the same impact as the major parties; as such the Sex Party, Socialists, Union Christians Party, Freedom Party and Family First would see a minimal uptick from this.

The election was on November 3rd, and early ballots were already coming in to electoral centres across New Hayesalia.

Next up the feeding chain, as it were, were the minor parties. These were the Farmer's Party, generally aligned with the Conservatives under Shelley Moss; and the NH Greens with Lana Warren. The major parties were placed to the left and right of screen - previously PM and up for the job again was Daniel Hayes, leader of the Federal Liberals, standing apart from Prime Minister Edwin Bolt, incumbent in the Prime Ministry. If elected it would be the first time a person became leader of New Hayesalia or its predecessors twice, yet now Daniel Hayes was en route to potentially achieve it.

There were the occasional question designated specifically for the two major parties, with the odd other candidate attempting to answer generally being quite well shut down by the moderators, pulled from various public and commercial news agencies. One of these was asked by the editor-in-chief at the Oppentin Bulletin, a somewhat conservative leaning daily - though right-leaning in New Hayesalia could be considered relatively left elsewhere. It was the question of the night, one that neither party was keen to answer and would need to be done in a careful way.

"This question is to Mr. Bolt and Mr. Hayes. With regard to the current issues relating to sea claims, particularly in Inyursta and Greater Nihon, how would a Government led by your party seek to handle the incredibly tricky diplomatic situation our nation currently faces, and how would it ensure the economic wellbeing of New Hayesalian flagged vessels operating in contested waters? Mr. Bolt."

The red-haired New Hayesalian Prime Minister was up first, and he needed to make an impression. There'd been hours of practice, this question asked of him with great detail. With his gravelled voice, Bolt answered.

"What has happened overseas is a tragedy that is still raw to New Hayesalians everywhere. The COSTAL treaty represents one of the most destabilising agreements ever signed by large nations, it is illegal under international law as was their attack of New Hayesalian Navy forces. My Government has maintained the opinion that if we escalate the situation, we will only cause more damage and more chaos that can, and would, spiral out of control. Undoubtedly, some foreign leaders are what you would describe as madmen, I think Mr. Hayes will agree, and we are dealing with some in this time. I will seek the support of allied nations, however, to convince the nations in question to withdraw their claims. If they want to change the law, they should do it in accordance with international law, and not become rogues in international diplomacy. We should not seek to appease them, as my opponent here tonight proclaims, as this will only encourage more, even dastardly nations, to make the very same claims."

There was no applause.

"Mr. Hayes."

"Thank you, Kevin. I too would like to express my absolute condolences to the victims and their families, victims of desperation by foreign nations. My position is a simple one, but also an ethical one. It is not New Hayesalia's responsibility to step up and maintain the international norms of the world, but it is the work of the international law-abiding community of which we are a part. I too will work with our allies to seek a resolution in this matter, one that I hope will be through international bodies such as the World Assembly. The Military is there for the defence of our country, of our allies, our interests and where appropriate to advance our national ideals to save people. The actions of these countries, as it stands, is a threat to the sea trade that our nation is built on. More ships than just about anywhere else fly the red merchant ensign of New Hayesalia, more tonnage of transshipment and shipping goes through our major ports than most other nations combined, and with ships quite literally in every sea lane that we depend on we must be realistic in the way that we protect and ensure their safe passage. We cannot force our will and our military power on any country we please at any time. I will seek reparations from these countries, of course, but I recognise that New Hayesalia cannot be the messiah of international waters, because if our flag becomes associated with violence, or with military interventions, or starts becoming banned from the world's ports, our nation will begin to suffer in a way we have not seen in centuries. I believe the only resolution to this matter is a multilateral one that takes into account global stability, international shipping, and the interests of the stakeholder parties which includes New Hayesalia. Mine is not a hawkish policy and it is not dangerous. I understand how many people will feel this is a defeat, or an embarrassment, or a disgrace to our Navy and of course, we must learn lessons from these hard days, but, I feel that to not seek peace and to put more sailors in jeopardy now would do nothing more than cause useless death where diplomacy has not yet failed."

The debate continued, with only two lighter questions for two major party leaders before each candidate signed off with their selling points, and the event ended.

REVNAMI – With votes finalised for the House of Representatives elections, and with the Senate election shortly to be wrapped up, it is becoming clear that Daniel Hayes has been returned to the Prime Ministry, the first time a New Hayesalian leader has served in the position twice non-consecutively.

With the expected support of the New Hayesalian Greens, the Liberals will take the reigns again in a minority government, with the Liberal candidate for Jalanat Cordelia Goins expected to win the Liberals 600th seat in the Parliament by only a few dozen votes.

Hayes was elected on the promise of developing better ties and seeking a less interventionalist foreign policy approach, something that cost the ruling Conservatives dearly after recent Freedom of Navigation operations. Further developments in economic policy have given Hayes a boost with families and small business, and a remarkably gaffe-free campaign kept his candidacy smooth compared to the haphazard approaches of many Conservative candidates. One ad, portraying Tintiai's Conservative candidate Troy Maylard, was particularly controversial, featuring an effigy of Hayes burning. The seat was won by the Liberals with a safe margin.

Hayes spoke to supporters in his electorate of Dorman, saying "we have claimed back the trust of the New Hayesalian people! We have claimed back the Government, and we will claim back New Hayesalia's strength and regard on the international stage.

Prime Minister Bolt is to remain caretaker Prime Minister for three days, at which time the Prime Minister and his Cabinet will be sworn in by the Montmarian Monarch and the Chief Justice of the High Court in a ceremony at the Parade Ground. At that time Mr Bolt will become the Leader of the Opposition, however party insiders are suggesting that this election loss will result in leadership changes.

Of course, this awaits to be seen.

MON OF THE PRIME MINISTER OF THE EMPIRE OF GREATER NIFON
Image

Respected Hayes-kakka,

This is an official address to the office of Prime Minister of New Hayesalia on behalf of the office of Prime Minister of the Empire of Greater Nifon, Murakami Akira. First, allow me to congratulate Hayes-kakka on his successful election, which, realizing his less militant program compared to the one of his predecessor Bolt-san is far less destabilizing for the international security. Of course, the government of the Empire of Greater Nifon realizes the difference on the issue of extension of maritime claims; yet it also firmly believes that this conflict can be solved on a diplomatic table, rather than by more humiliations that Bolt administration has currently brought upon New Hayesalian nation.

The Empire of Greater Nifon harbors no ill will towards the Hayesalian state, and neither has any plans to infringe upon Hayesalian commercial shipping industry. As such, the Empire of Greater Nifon, now wholeheartedly ready for war in defense of Nifonese maritime sovereignty, is more than willing to give peace a chance. Thus I am requesting an official withdrawal of all Hayesalian forces currently involved in operations against the Empire of Greater Nifon and cessation of all violations of Nifonese sovereign territorial waters; in return I am ready to give such declaration myself and am willing to guarantee release of all prisoners from captured ships, and return the ships to New Hayesalia once the conflict has been resolved.

To further resolve the issue, a congress on maritime security and other issues will be called to Fujian in nearest months.

Finally I wish to note that clear resolution of the ongoing dispute in peaceful manner will result in increase of support in Administration of Hayes-san and guarantee increase in public support. The choice weather Hayesalian government wishes to make itself a bitter foe or potential ally in fight against slavery rests upon your shoulders.

FORT ORMDRAE – FIFTEEN SOLDIERS from a number of New Hayesalian regions and cities are today being sworn into Military service at Fort Ormdrae, part of a special new program to test the introduction of persons with some disabilities into military service. The recruits, all of whom are totally deaf, are in training to become specialist Army members.

The soldiers are being trained to serve in fields such as logistics and administration, catering, and trades such as carpentry.

"This is a really cool opportunity." says Recruit Harrison Thomas of the trial project. "I think it will be a hard challenge and there may some bumps along the road, but I am really excited to be involved in all of this."

The training procedures of basic training, which bring to mind visions of screaming drill instructions and snappy commands to march, don't exactly suit training for deaf recruits.

"It is certainly a change." says Sergeant Joff Marnoe, a senior recruit instructor.

"We have adapted some of our training procedures to ensure these recruits will be able to achieve success. We've particularly adapted a number of lessons including drill and ceremony, weapons training and marksmanship, public presenting and so forth. We've also brought on a number of HayLan interpreters so that our lessons will be presented in sign language."

For Sergeant Marnoe, the opportunity presented with this trial is particularly interesting.

"My son turns 6 years old next week, and he uses hearing aids. If this program is successful and there is potential for people with total or partial hearing loss to become excellent soldiers, then it will be an excellent opportunity for him and kids like him to be a part of our great work."

The program is slated to continue for a year, with results to presented to Military leaders next December.

The Netforce, the newest branch of the Military and the second smallest, accepts a large number of members with disabilities such as vision impairments, physical disabilities, and deafness. Until today, it has only been the Netforce that has held exemptions to the Military's deployability objectives which require that all members should be able to deploy on operations quickly and without concerns. It's unlikely, but not impossible, that these soldiers will ever deploy to an overseas operation but this does not dissuade them.

"I am very excited to be a part of the Army and do this for our community." Recruit Thomas says.

"It's not every day that you get to be the first to try something!"

REVNAMI – NEW HAYESALIA'S nuclear power plants and facilities will be under the command of a new team as of today, with the establishment of the National Nuclear Police today formalised with a swearing-in ceremony at the force's new Revnami headquarters.

The National Nuclear Police have been established in response to the McMurdo Report delivered in 2015. The Report recommended the establishment of a specialist police service to guard sensitive nuclear sites and facilities.

The new police service, now one of only three civilian police services in New Hayesalia including the National Police and Customs Service, has the motto Deter, Defend, Deny, Recover. The service will be responsible for guarding nuclear plants and storage facilities, assisting in the transportation of nuclear materials, and preventing the loss and theft of nuclear material and equipment.

Newly promoted Chief Superintendent Damien Kelling oversaw the ceremonies in Revnami this morning.

"The National Nuclear Police are the nation's newest silent guardians."

"Our skills match the importance and complexity of our duties, but we frankly hope we never have to use much of the training and equipment we do possess."

"The success of our services will be marked by quiet successes and quick responses, and keeping New Hayesalia's radiological and nuclear facilities and materials in the very safest of hands."

"Our officers are already seasoned members of the New Hayesalian National Police, and we share many of our tactics, techniques, and procedures with them - resources too - but our duties have changed and I think the opportunity to really develop a unique organisational culture is a very exciting one for myself and for my officers."

"As of the midnight shift this morning, members of the National Nuclear Police have taken up their posts at various facilities to ensure the security of our nation. We're already at work, and I intend for us to be at work for quite some time ahead."
