Gambia, how much power do generals and admirals have in the Federation's military council? Like do they govern certain territories, etc.

Each system or nation still has their own civilian government, but the Military has the real power. The Military Council issues an edict and the rulers under their control are expected to enforce them. A lot of species and nations rely on the military for protection and go along with it regardless if they agree with them or not. Other more powerful nations are aligned with the Military ideals and fully support them, even giving troops to them. Others that could defend themselves are aligned with the GRF which runs similar to the old Federation where representatives from each system and nation meet to run their territory.

After reading through that, I've actually rethought my character... I think I'm gonna have him be a pretty powerful psionic kid who was kept by the Brood because they want to use his powers to expand the hivemind, to include even other races.

A loud beep can be hear, and the black screen suddenly comes alive showing Zathartha standing in a small shuttle. There is a shattered screen on the ground and he is slightly flushed. He sits in a chair in the small room, and takes a drink from his flask. He begins speaking.

"So, Umm I guess Logs are things people do when out at space, so I might as well tell you my story in my own. God I sound cliché. But whatever. My log, my rules." He takes another drink and continues. "My name is Zethartha Ziak Dukalise. Born and Raised on the Planet Xel in the Yajarobi System. My family were a group of colonists that signed on for the initial colonization and cultivation of the world to expand Rebellion Space in the Area by giving it a stronger hold. Mom and Dad were signed on as Xenobiologists. They were sent to study and observe the primitive Tribal species that was developing on the planet. They were well trained in Anatomy, Chemistry, the like, so therefore so am I. Wouldn't be that impressive if they also didn't teach me to speak Trilingual, so In addition to Galactic Basic I can speak Taani and Khyrsian." He quickly runs through some phrases in both languages and then continues. "I guess you could say being a science kid was boring and what not but I loved it and the doctors told me I was the first Human born on Xel due to the fresh start of the Colony. The Military outpost allowed me to train from a young age to be a solider. The battalion stationed there allowed me to test my way through my last year of schooling to become a Translator for the Rebellion after I passed Basic. They said I had "Heightened Intellect" and could retain information better which is why I am so good at translating. But life wasn't all it seemed it was. After my schooling things changed for the worst and will explain why I'm floating in this Tin-Can." He collects himself, as if preparing mentally to continue. He shakes his Flask but it rattles with the last few drops of his drink shaking inside. He throws it behind him, and reaches underneath the table to bring out a bottle of Coconut Rum. "Dad always had good taste." He pops the cap off and starts drinking from the bottle.

"One day the shuttles just left." He sighs. "The military bases abandoned and the Defense Systems left offline. We received a transmission that due to increased pirate activity the Rebellion was abandoning the colony and leaving it to live out its fate. After the initial panic, there was anarchy. Without centralized governing forces and the military to control the populace it basically became an anarchist State across the planet as the initial colonists and all those that immigrated to the fledgling world came to grips that no new supplies were coming to support them, and without proper support the colony couldn't sustain itself. Anyone with enough fuel or contacts off world took their chance and immediately left the planet. Or if you didn't you stole someone elses ship. Like Ours. We were stranded, with no support, on a dying world as people starved and cannibalized and ultimately were prayed on by the local population that decided that now was their finest hour, and our darkest. They got bolder, and bolder, and ultimately launched an assault to level the settlement that they were destined to win. When they came, they were ruthless. 2 Legs, 4 Arms, they had a strength and number advantage. The women and children were taken hostage as the men were gutted and crucified on trees and buildings in the town. My parents informed me before the attack that there was a small pod left they had repaired from when the Rebellion was here. I had gotten in and thankfully knew how to fly due to my training at the base. I quickly went into Orbit, and left the settlement before the battle started. There was a..." He pauses. "A Camera that sent live feed from the base to the shuttle. I could see it. The Battle. I..." He motions towards the shattered screen on the ground. "Did that, sat down, and turned this camera on. And it seems my story has gone full circle hasn't it?" A sound like a Slipspace Drive can be heard as a Pirate Emblem can be seen out the Port-side Window. "Shit! Pirates! They must have tracked my IFF!" He stands and draws a pistol. "If anyone gets this message, I am being taken captive by Pirates on my way to Federation space. Please Send a response team! Zethartha Out!" He turns off the camera and faces the Airlock. This is going to be interesting.
