"It is because of the people that we must hold this Referendum"
In a controversial interview, Reitan expresses support for the referendum that intends to outlaw same-sex marriage in Sveltlana.

Herfast, Gottmark — The election conducted this November as per standard procedures went along well for the right-wingers, as the coalition favoured by every poll—foreign and domestic—secured a victory with one of the largest margins in the last 50 years. Today, the government has a full 328 seats in the House of Thanes, a massive figure when compared to the pitiful 232 seats occupied by the Opposition.

The Institutional Party, better known by its initials in English 'AIP', secured 201 seats—by itself—out of 610 in the House of Thanes. In the House of Jarls, it secured 40 out of 90 seats.

"We secured a great victory. The Sveltlanan people wanted change," commented Anna Tvedt, head of the infamous Framåt, Svea! party. "We promised that change. And now, we'll carry it out."

Framåt won 127 seats in the House of Thanes and 30 in the House of Jarls.

One of the selling points of the campaign conducted by Framåt and, to a lesser extent, its more powerful, only-somewhat-more-moderate companion AIP, was the immediate cessation of "government-sanctioned protection of sodomy," or, in ordinary parlance, the rights of same-sex couples to be married by the Sveltlanan government.

In Sveltlana, as in the other Nordic countries, same-sex marriage has been allowed for more than a decade. In the country, a bill to allow for this kind of marriage was first proposed in 1988, and finally passed in 1994. Since then, over 160.000 same-sex couples have been married in the country.

"[The bill] has been wildly successful," blogged social media mogul Olaf Hammär. "We've seen the rate of same-sex marriage grow exponentially over the years. It would be foolish to end that now, as more and more Svelts are finally 'coming out'," commented the famous blogger and social theorist in his multilingual page, The Learned Svelt.

However, there seems to have been a growing disapproval for the continued protection of same-sex marriage. 'Seems' is the key word here, as the only evidence of this is the growing number of rank-and-file members of right and far-right parties within the body politic. Millions of Svelts voted overwhelmingly for AIP. Could this allude to the fact that the majority of Svelts are against same-sex marriage?

Following several frustrations when trying to introduce the bill to the Riksdag, the leadership of Framåt has come up with a different approach: a Referendum.

"Everyone in the country over the age of majority and with appropriate voting credentials will be able to participate," said Anna Tvedt. "It has the double benefit of bringing direct democracy to the people, and carrying out their wishes."

Needless to say, the proposal for the referendum has enlisted both widespread acclaim and widespread criticism.

Social theorist Alan Riksen famously explained the state of affairs in a brief paragraph: "The right claims it doesn't do enough, that it gambles a bill endorsed by the majority of the population. The left claims it goes over the line—it puts a constitutional right, granted over two decades ago to a significant portion of the Sveltlanan populace, at risk."

"It doesn't do enough. That is all I will say until I am proven otherwise and the referendum allows for the bill to pass," commented Jan Rapenskoers, a member of Framåt and Governor of Dunfast.

Yesterday, the President of our Delsrepubliker, Torvill Reitan, granted Det Nörr a selective interview. For thirty minutes, the President outlined his stance on the Referendum, and his predictions on its outcome.

He began by voicing his approval of the Referendum.

"Out platform is based on democracy, no matter what 'pundits' may claim," explained Reitan. "I, personally, am a strong supporter of direct democracy. If we have an opportunity that allows for direct democracy, then I'm all for it. Yes, that means I support the referendum, utterly and completely."

Reitan continued to voice his opinion that the 'will of the people' was of the highest importance.

"The will of the people is of paramount importance to me. If they approve of it, then the Riksdag will be forced to pass the proposal as per the Second Constitution. If the people vote against it, well, then that will be it for the bill. Everything my Cabinet has done in preparation for this referendum has been done for Sveltlana. Indeed, it is because of the people that we must hold this referendum."

When asked about his predictions for the outcome of the plebiscite, Reitan was not as apprehensive:

"To be honest, I should not be in a position to comment on the outcome of the referendum. The people will vote for what they want to vote. While my government encourages the participation of everyone, we will respect citizens who unilaterally decide against making exercise of their right to vote, although the right is there nevertheless. Still, every vote will count."

The President, however, did conclude by stating that his Cabinet would carry out the will of the people regardless of the popular vote's outcome.

"As I said before, the will of the people is of the highest priority. If the people are for the idea, then it will be an idea no longer and become a reality. If the people are against the idea, then it will remain an idea and nothing more. Vox populi. To act without the consent of the people is tantamount to disrespecting our fair and noble country... as a patriot and a proud Svelt, I would never allow myself to act in such a manner, nor permit such behaviour in my government."

Reitan has been observed attending various meetings in the Riksdagshuset over the day; it is believed that he is conducting the final preparations for the ballot that will occur during the next month.

Meanwhile, the left has been vociferous in its disapproval of the referendum.

"Despicable and disgusting. The right for same-sex couples to be married has been defended in our constitution for more than 20 years," said Fristeir Sönjard, the current head of the Citizens party. "It is a constitutional right bestowed upon every Svelt, regardless of their sexuality, or lack thereof. The right of marriage should not be deprived of anyone, and much less if he or she is a Svelt."

"Tyranny by the majority—which this referendum intends to be, no offence—is tyranny nevertheless," commented famous member of the Sveltlanan intelligentsia Herlof Lehne, the most renowned Collectivist in Sveltlana, head of the People's Party.

Many other politicians have voiced their disapproval through the social media, with Twitter being a key method for the dissemination of contempt towards the referendum.

"@Riksdag This is both unconstitutional and inhumane. Stop this at once. #SocialJusticeWarriors #Citizens" read a post by the Socially-gifted Sigvard Larssen of the Greens.

Hashtags such as #Citizens and #IVoteNo have recently rocketed into the most popular in the site's Sveltlanan iteration.

Even in light of this, Svelts seem to largely support the referendum, despite the protests of the Opposition. Support comes not only from the right, but, amazingly, also from the left. Det Nörr conducted a poll of 10,000 people over the majority age in Herfast, with no regard for political leaning or any other category:

Image

The third-largest party in Sveltlana, the famously moderate TIP, has remained uncannily silent on the issue. It is expected that Berdor Amotman, the head of the party, will deliver a speech tomorrow outlining the issue at hand as part of a coordinated attack—or defence?—for or against the referendum.

"TIP is the most organised and reasonable party in this unreasonable country," said Amotman. "We act as a single organ—a powerful instrument of popular representation, a strong arm whose driving force is the will of the people. You will know what we think on this issue tomorrow."

Amotman is famous for his anti-patriotism, although he likes to brush it all away with the generous application of sarcasm and the dismissive use of utilitarian arguments.

Meanwhile, Chancellor Reinfeldt has been cautious when approaching the issue. With her position threatened by the large margin of victory of Reitan and Tvedt's parties, the Chancellor has, to some extent, been more careful in expressing her usually enlightened opinions:

"As is well known and documented elsewhere, I have always been in favour of the most direct form of democracy possible. The outcome is of little regard to me, what is key is implementing the desire of the people to play a part in their government," she explained.

Reitan and Reinfeldt have been cited as working together quite well, and were indeed once spotted chatting extensively over a cup of coffee. Both are married.

Skepticism of Sveltlana's curious democratic methods is expected to pour in from foreign countries...

THE TRANSGENDER DILEMMA
The Federal Government releases the "Mason Acts"; Transgender community outraged

FEDERATION OF ASTERIA -
Since the legalization of gay marriage last year, there are been a dramatic rise in LGBT activities across the Federation of Asteria - exactly the opposite, says President White, of the expectation. Early this year, the Transgender Community began to protest for the right to access the bathroom of whatever gender they feel they are, but President White responded with firm resistance, saying that, "we cannot live in a country where a man with male genitalia thinks he is a woman, and seeks to be treated like one, and vise-versa". The debate on whether or not Transgender people should be able to use the restroom of their preferred sex heated in late March into April as the Senate struck down the "Equal Facilities Act", which led to small outbreaks of violence in various cities across the country. According to de facto LGBT leader Sandra Poramo, they will not back down until the Transgender Community is given the rights they "deserve" and "are entitled to", while the Federal Government calls the idea "perverted" and "dumbfounded".

Some progress seemed to have been made into April as three State Governments passed their own versions of the Equal Facilities Act, but on April 18th, Congress passed the "Mason Acts" which force Transgenders to use the restroom of their current sex. "This," says Congressman Kevin Larton, "is the only way foreword". Larton, a leading figure against the Transgender movement, would later say, "we are raising our children to believe that marrying someone of the same sex or going as far to change your genitalia is okay - it isn't. It's not okay". His beliefs are not unpopular either. According to a recent study, more than 40% of Asterians are against allowing Transgenders to use the restroom of their sex, and 30% support the illegalization of sex change. "It's a sin" says Reverend Michael Keeley of St. Mary's Church in New Haven, "those who mutilate their bodies are spitting in the face of God - it cannot be allowed".

Members of the LGBT Community disagree, and during an interview, one Transgender protester said, "we have the right to decide who were are, the President White is spitting on us. It's not his decision where we go to the bathroom". When interviewed, one anti-LGBT spectator said, "I identify as diesel engine, where the hell do I go piss?". While LGBT leaders wish to see peaceful demonstrations throughout the country, the mayors of many cities have begun preparing their police forces to deal with riots, and have sectioned off protests, which seems to only have infuriated the LGBT protesters more. In Los Santos, more than 5,000 have gathered to protest the city Government's decision to enforce the Mason Acts, and in Columbia, they protest around the White House and Capitol Building. Holding signs saying things like End White America and Freedom to Choose, these protestors are seen trampling, spitting on, and burning the national flag, an action that has the Federal Government threatening to break them up. "It is one thing to protest what you believe in" says White, "it's another to trample, burn, and spit on the flag that thousands have fought and died for. It is the symbol of our nation, not a target of your movement. You don't see us burning and trampling the LGBT flag".

"We are leading a modern Civil Rights Movement" says one protestor outside the White House. "Give us Liberty, or give us death".

GLYT OFFICIALS CONDEMN 'DANGEROUS REGRESSION' OF LGBT+ RIGHTS
Following the announcement of the Svelt referendum and the Asterian Manson Acts, Glyt officials express concerns

LGBT+ supporters march through the capital, protesting both Sveltlana and the Asterian Federation

SPALGLEANN – Protests have sprung up across the nation following the announcement of the proposed referendum on outlawing same-sex marriages in Sveltlana and the passage of the controversial 'Manson Acts' in the Asterian Federation. Supporters of the LGBT+ community, among them Spálgleann's own major, Robert Kean, have been marching throughout the Glytteronian capital. Protesters have also arrived outside both the Sveltlanan and Asterian embassies, with members of the Póilíní Ríoga being dispatched to ensure peace is maintained outside both embassies.

The proposed referendum would effectively end some 160,000 same-sex marriages in Sveltlana, which legally began in 1994. Members of Sveltlanan's political right wing are responsible for the referendum, using it as a way to circumvent their own legislature to ensure their anti-gay agenda continues on its way.

At a press conference earlier today, Minister of Foreign Affairs Frank Casarnach was asked to comment on the Svelt referendum. "It is absurd" he said initially. "To think that a Euclean nation, one that has been a beacon of progress in our world, has a government that wishes to turn back the clock and reinstate discriminatory policies is just simply absurd. Unfortunately, it appears to be reality. It is the official stance of this government that the proposed Sveltlanan referendum is nothing more than a ploy to implement hateful and discriminatory policies on hundreds of thousands of Sveltlanan citizens. Same-sex marriage has been legal in Sveltlana for over 20 years, and this is very dangerous regression."

"We strongly urge the Sveltlanan government to reexamine the nature of this referendum. While many prominent members of the Svelt government may claim that this is simply democracy at work and the voice of the people, we must remember that tyranny by majority is by no means democracy. We as a continent must also never forget that the Gaullican Popular Party rose to power through democracy. Democracy when unchecked is dangerous and there is plenty of historical precedent for tyranny by majority. The majority should have no legal right to use their government as a vehicle to discriminate against minorities. This is something most people in our world have come to realize, and it is our hope the Sveltlanan government and people keep this in mind when moving forward" he added.

A reporter from COXX News was quick to ask the Foreign Minister for comment regarding the recent 'Manson Acts' passed within the Asterian Federation.

"Once again, this is simply absurd. This is blatant discrimination. It is in fact counterproductive and simply ignorant. I will first address how this law is counterproductive" Casarnarch said.

"The Asterians wish to legislate away a problem which is non-existent. People who were born male but have a gender identity that is female almost always present themselves as a woman, and the same goes for those who are born female but identify as male. This means you have people who for all intents and purposes are women using the women's restroom. There is no way to tell what their biological gender is when they are in the bathroom, unless the Asterians wish to post police officers at every restroom door who ask for either a birth certificate or check each person's genitals. Either way, this is a gross invasion of privacy. This whole thing is not about bathrooms, just as it was not about water fountains decades ago."

"The point here is that the Asterians are in fact creating the problem they are trying to prevent. Under these laws you will now have people who look and sound like males using the women's restroom because their biological sex either at the time of birth or at the present moment is female. How does this solve any problem? Are trans* people simply expected not to use the restroom?" Casarnach questioned.

"In regards to ignorance, that is blatant. President Ronald White is the perfect embodiment of Asterian ignorance on the issue. He said, and I quote 'we cannot live in a country where a man with male genitalia thinks he is a woman, and seeks to be treated like one, and vise-versa'. One, President White, trans* people do not "think" they are women. They are, for all intents and purposes and in the simpliest of language, simply born in the wrong body. For example, a trans female is someone who was born with the biological parts of a male but identify as and are a female. A trans male is the opposite, someone born with the biological parts of a female but identify as and are a male."

"I also wish to remind President White and those in his party that gender and sex are not the same thing. Gender is an identity, decided by yourself and often defined by society, and sex is purely biological. I would also like to personally suggest that if the Asterians wish to regulate bathrooms, they should perhaps be reminded that the icon for men's restrooms looks like a male while those for women's restrooms looks like a female. The icons do not depict genitalia, but rather looks. Perhaps if people used the bathroom for which they looked like, and looks are a part of a person's identity after all, the Asterians would no longer have a bathroom crisis. But, as I said earlier. This is not about bathrooms, this is about blatant discrimination."

"Glytter has been a voice for equality and human rights for centuries, and that is not going to change now. However, it is my hope that other members of the international community voice their concerns on the issue, as it impacts us all" Casarnach said before declining to comment further.

When asked for her stance on both the referendum and the 'Manson Acts', the Taoiseach's officer released a short but informative statement. It reads: "The Taoiseach wishes to reinforce all said by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, but would like to add that, as she said over a decade ago, that 'Gay rights are human rights, trans* rights are human rights, and women's rights are human rights.'"

Many other members of the Glytteronian government have voiced their concerns of the issue. Matthew Dougharty, a member of the Social Democrats, has announced he intends to put forth a travel ban for all government agencies to the Asterian Federation, citing the unsafe climate for trans* people and that "this government should offer no monetary support to those who wish to use their government as a tool to violate the rights of its own people". The bill has yet to be proposed, but it is currently under draft from Dougharty and a coalition of Social Democrats, Greens, and Leftist TCs. The government has yet to comment on the proposal, but is expected to support it.

Gaullica Weighs In.
"Banning homosexuality is totally gay." - de Troumpe.

Verlois, Ile de Fleur - Following the concurrent and almost flurry of assaults on what many would regard as LGBT Rights, it was not long before the Gaullican Government voiced her opinions on the building potential diplomatic 'shit storm' that was brewing to the north and east. President Vallette echoed the statements of many of the other aforementioned comments in regards to the scenario; "In Sveltlana, this is an act of tyranny of majority. The rights of a group of people supersede the wishes of a bigoted law. In Asteria I say the same, for our brothers and sisters whom wish to be sisters and brothers have the right to identify through what they wish; be it male or female."

Despite Vallette's seniority and his general respect amongst the world, particularly the nations within Eastern Euclea, it fell upon Minister of Foreign Affairs; Augustine de Troumpe, to carry the Gaullican Diplomatic Banner in this exchange of words. "Let me be clear." Troumpe called, speaking smartly and intelligently to our reporters from Le Monde. He slicked back his hair slightly, tanned skin glistening a heavenly orange as he spoke. "Banning homosexuality is totally, as Asterian kids say, 'gay'. I mean look; I respect President Reitan - he's a smart guy, a winner, believe you me. But allowing direct democracy isn't a smart idea, that's an idea for losers, especially in a circumstance where one can so easily see an instance of tyranny by majority. So I've got to tell Reitan, Little Reitan, that he's being a fool. I think I saw in a science magazine that there's some correlation between being homosexual and how anti-homosexual one is. So, I'd need to tell Mr. Reitan to not ban this cause, if you ask me, he's gonna need it if you know what I'm saying." Troumpe's approach to politics has been critiqued by many for being informal, but others argue that Troumpe brings a sense of normality in speech to politics that many on the left fear to tread and many on the right seek not to imitate, for their dialogue has been critiqued as 'no better in speech than those aristocrats of old.'

Regarding Asteria's recent meddling in the private lives of individuals and their rights of self identification Troumpe once again brought his 'hammer down'. "I hear that Asteria's fucking up with the whole LGBT rights, they've got the L, the G, the B - I think? - but not the T. You need the 'T', if not you've got LGB; the hell is that? Anyway; I'll say it plain and simple. If any trans' people in the Federation wants to go to friendly bathrooms, Troumpe Towers - in any location - will be friendly to you and you can use whichever you like. I also speak on behalf of the Coalition Government of Gaullica, the SDs and the CLU, when I say that we urge the Federation of Asteria to reconsider its position to a group of people who have, unfairly, suffered at the hands of many for a long time. I know you people all think of me as that cantankerous and loud-mouthed politician, but it comes a time where one must be serious and face the facts. We need to make our morality great again and extending a helping hand is always a way to go. Sveltlana puts up the veil of a referendum, Asteria introduces a new bill; its all the same thing here and there - tyranny by majority."

CASARNACH: PRES. WHITE IS 'IGNORANT, BIGOTED, IDIOT'
Leaked tape catches Foreign Minister Casarnach insulting the Asterian President

Frank Casarnach, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, during an interview last week. He has served as FM since 2014 and in the Walker Cabinet since 2012.

SPALGLEANN – Earlier today a recording of a phone call made by Glytteronign Minister of Foreign Affairs, Frank Casarnach, to the Glytteronian Ambassador to the Federation of Asteria, Ellen Deegnam, was leaked to COXX News, a Glytteronian cable news agency. The call was placed yesterday following Casarnach's press conference.

He started the call by saying he was concerned "the Asterians are far more inept than previously thought" and that "it is evident that far too many Asterians could not pass a primary school biology test". Casarnach latter went on to add that "it is no wonder the Asterians are testing so low when compared to the rest of the world".

It was at this point that Deegnam expressed her own concerns regarding the recent Asterian 'Mason Acts'. "I am worried about a new era of reactionary conservatism spurred on by the country's evangelic right wing" she said.

"Biblical conservatives are just insane" Casarnach then replied. "They don't understand that the separation of church and state exists, or perhaps they do and they just wish to ram the 10 Commandments down everyone's throats anyway."

Deegnam was then heard chuckling before saying "There are some here who wish to replace the Bill of Rights with the 10 Commandments. But, we have our own radicals back home too." It is believed Ambassador Deeganm was referring to Glytter's right wing Free Market Party. The Free Market Party, known for its sometimes radical nationalist and xenophobic rhetoric, is considered by many to be Glytter's own radical right wing.

Casarnach signed before replying again. "With White in charge it is no wonder the Federation is so reactionary. He's an ignorant, bigoted, idiot after all."

The two continued to discuss the exact details of the situation before the recording ended. It is currently unknown who leaked the recording or how they obtained it.

Both the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Taoiseach's Office have declined to comment. Ambassador Deegnam's office released a statement saying that "The Ambassador stands by what she believes to be valid concerns about the Federation's current political climate. However, she would like to state that she Foreign Minister's views are not her own."

LGBT RIGHTS: LEGALIZED, PREIMER APPOINTS WIFE TO HEAD PRESIDIUM OF THE SUPREME SOVIET AFTER SCANDAL

Our glorious Hero of World Communism, Premier Yuri. Love him, citizen.

SOVIET SOCIALIST REPUBLIC OF TESLACHATSKI -
Recent events in the disgusting "democratic" anti-communist nations such as the great enemy of worker's rights, Asteria, and Svetlana, have caused the non-corrupt, peace-loving, and benevolent government of Teslachatski to rethink it's undecided postion on LGBT rights in Teslachatski. There have been no laws officially passed on actual LGBT rights in Teslachatski, it was, for many years shunned upon by the traditional and kind people of Teslachatski. (THIS IS TRUE) However, on this historic day, glorious Premier Yuri Nikolev has declared it at the monthly meeting of the Supreme Soviet as Premier that full LGBT rights will be now to awarded to the LGBT community of Teslachatski. The heroic and glorious Premier had this to say on the matter, which all citizens should listen and obey forever, as a show of patriotism to our glorious free and happy republic. Do not dissent. Obey.

In the words for Premier Yuri, in a official interview with TSTN Reporters. "Under what righteous dogma do the Asterian Imperialists, and the Sveltlander Imperialists have to tell their own citizens what they cannot and not do, despite allowing the corporate dogs to shove their drivel urinewater and electric sounds along with robotic monotone voices in their own people's faces, telling them that only these two things, along with countless maddening garbage the capitalists sell, you must have or you will be left behind? I see hypocrisy, and weakness from both governments. They do not want threats to their power, knowing that the LGBT community knows full well how evil and imperialistic both of their governments are. For this reason, it is simply obvious that our glorious Soviet republic must do the opposite and legalize LGBT rights. While Asteria and Sveltlandia both wallow in their disgusting corporate garbage dumps, Teslachatski lives in a traditional, beautiful, fashionable nation filled with culture and beauty. All who come to Teslachatski know that everyone is well-off and happy due to their lot in life. Meanwhile, these other disgusting countries try to silence dissent, like the dictatorships they are. I have a message for President White. You are nothing more then a bigoted, pathetic sham of a leader. Continue telling yourself you are better then someone like me. Lie to yourself. That is what President White tells his country to calm the conscience. Pathetic."

Image
The beautiful and wise third wife of glorious Premier Yuri, who will be heading the Presidium permanently.

The Presidum will now be headed by Natasha Nikolev, third wife of Premier Yuri, after the previous Chairman, Sergei Bjarkov was found guilty by the emergency court of Un-Patriotism, Corruption, Underdeclaring taxes, and plans to defect to Asteria to reveal various lies about the "gulags" which do not exist. He was sentenced to death by firing squad yesterday, and was shot dead infront of the Palace of the Parliament. After the public execution, Premier Yuri ordered the Presidium to accept his wife as the new Chairman (or Chairwoman or person) Yuri has also given his wife a set of announcements which will declare the new powers of the Chairman, which include the ability to order public executions of any deputy who shows signs of wanting to defect or unpatriotic, ability to fire the entire council if they prove unworthy, and ablity to veto any amendment or law attempting to be passed. Our glorious savior and Premier explained it to reporters in a recent interview.

After kissing his wife on the cheek and giggling with her, which was described as former deputy and unpatriotic killjoy Nicaloe Sergei as "unprofessional and juvenile" (he has since been executed on suspected charges of not loving Yuri) Yuri had this to say on the matter.

"I feel betrayed by these evil deputies and asterian spies who have masqueraded like a shakesparian play pretending to be loyal, kind communists, when they were in fact evil capitalist-supporters who want our wonderful and free country to be turned into a cesspool of greed and hate by these Asterian animals. How can our country move forward when our elected deputies and chairmen are in-fact corporate slugs who want me and my family to be removed from power in order to avoid my rigid aversion to capitalism? For this reason, I think it is time to make a message be heard, that capitalism will never be represented in Teslachatski, as clearly we can trust these deputies and chairmen to love our country properly and love communism. For this reason, my kind and good-willed wife will be taking the podium, as I feel that I can only trust her in charge. I would like to remind these deputies that loving communism is more then simply saying it, you must prove you love our country before you can be trusted."

We thank Yuri for his enlightened and glorious and wise statements on these issues that affect us all.

Secretary of State "Deeply Appalled", Glytteronian comments "shameful"
22nd May 2016

Reichstal, Vredlandia

Ask a conservative about Glytter today, and you will not hear kind words. The Glytteronian Foreign Minister, who was barely known to Vredlandians before, now made news all over the nation with a leaked statement that "biblical conservatives are just insane". And it's not just Conservatives who are angry - save for the Greens and Socialists everyone agrees that the statement is at least not suitable for a man in Carsarnach's position.

The original comment concerned Asterian President White and his "Mason Act" that forces men and women to use their respectable bathrooms. Officials in Glytter and Gaullica showed concern at what they thought to be discriminating towards gay communities in Svetlana and Asteria. Now a call between Frank Casarnach and the Glytteronian ambassador to Asteria were leaked, revealing his thoughts and truly the worst of his character. The Office of His Majesty refused to comment, arguing they would not comment on some leaked gossip, but behind closed doors the King cited a Glytteronian diplomat to his office, where they talked for not less than an hour. Chancellor von Geldrich was there, too.

Image
Minister of Justice Gustav Fritz raged at the comments of the Glytteronian official

Vredlandia is led by the Conservative Block, a group of parties that works together to make it possible to elect a Chancellor from their ranks, so naturally the government wasn't very satisfied with the Glytteronian comments. Minister of Justice Gustav Fritz, who was never known to be an advocate of religion, was the first to answer when confronted with it at Königsbrück University. "Biblical conservatives are insane? I don't know who that Casarnach thinks he is. Might have have forgotten that he's Foreign Minister. Insane.. It would be insane not to kick that gay-lover out of the government now. Unbearable, disgraceful. Someone like that wouldn't even become Mayor of Lerth here, and they voted some senile commie into office."

Secretary of State Adam Bolde refused to comment on the content of the leaked talks, but instead expressed his disappointment. "I am deeply appalled that the Glytteronian Foreign Minister engages in conversations like those. It is shameful and without a doubt undiplomatic in nature. Maybe he should ask the ambassador to teach him a bit about manners when he next calls her", he said. It is assumed the harsh reactions from Reichstal originated in the involvement of Minister of Social Affairs Marlene Wollnitz in the government. She is a heavyweight inside the coalition and a biblical conservative herself, so naturally her colleagues came to her aid.

It is yet to be concluded how Vredlandia stands on this issue. Most strongly disagree with Casarnach, but the Euclean List, Socialists and Greens didn't comment. And some homosexuals even went as far as showing their solidarity with Casarnach on signs in front of the Glytteronian embassy. They now await trial for breaches of demonstration rulings and the Child Safety Act. And much like the different relations between Glytter and Vredlandia, it is unknown where all this will take them.

BATHROOM CONFERENCE HELD IN NEW HAVEN
Pres. White: "This isn't a matter of discrimination, it's a matter of morality"

President White during his Conference in New Haven

NEW HAVEN -
After much backlash from both the Asterian and the International Community following the release of the Mason Acts which implemented laws forcing Transgenders to use the restroom of their current sex, President White has attended a conference in New Haven to voice his thoughts about the situation. After leaked tapes showed the Glytteronian Foreign Minister calling White an "Ignorant, Bigoted, Idiot", the President released a statement saying that "Mr. Casarnach has the right to his opinion, however false it may be". This afternoon, President White attended a conference in New Haven along with more than a hundred Government Officials and many respected members of the LGBT Community.

"Let's set the record straight" said White. "This isn't a matter of discrimination, it's a matter of morality."

Despite political pressure from Glytter, Gaullica, and the whole of the international LGBT Community, White and a large percentage of the Asterian population stick by the new bathroom law that has been implemented. "It isn't an action taken against trans people" says White. "It's an action taken to protect the privacy of the individual."

One LGBT Supporter would ask the President "Transgender people do not feel as though they are their current gender - why should the Government be allowed to tell them that they cannot use the bathroom of the gender they feel they are?"

"You can feel however you like" answered White, "but if I were a woman, I wouldn't want a full-grown man coming into the bathroom with me. You might not mind, ma'am, and that's alright, but there are millions of Asterian women that do."

He was then asked "what about Trans* people who have gotten a sex change?"

"Then they are more than welcome to use the bathroom of their current sex" White would answer. "Look, all this information is easily obtainable online - the full Mason Acts have been uploaded. What they are designed to do is ensure that people only use the bathroom of their current sex."

"I can't afford that surgery, what the hell do you expect me to do?" one trans* person said from the crowd.

President White would laugh. "Get better insurance."

The conference would last for more than an hour, with the President addressing many of the issues surrounding the Mason Acts, while hoping to calm down the LGBT Community. During the conference, he would state numerous times that he, nor the Federal Government, was 'out to get' the Transgender Community, and did not wish to take away people's rights to feel how they wish. Of course, this was met by equally-grounded arguments from the LGBT supporters, though as of now, it seems that the Mason Acts will not be repealed. "To Gaullica and Glytter" he would say, "I'm not saying you aren't allowed to be trans - I'm saying that, in this situation, the solution is very black and white. If you have a penis, you use the male restroom, if you have a vagina, you use the women's." He would then be seen chuckling before continuing. "If you don't like it, well, wait until you get home for Christ sakes."

CASARNACH, WALKER RESPOND TO FOREIGN CRITICISM
Criticism from Vredlandian officials and Pres. White emerges following leaked phone call

Taoiseach Walker while speaking to members of the press earlier today.

SPALGLEANN – Following what has been labeled 'extensive' criticism from government officials in both Vredlandia and the Federation of Asteria, Glyt and Liberty Party officials are both on the defensive. The criticism, mostly stemming from the leaked phone call between Minister of Foreign Affairs, Frank Casarnach, and Ellen Deegnam, the Glytteronian ambassador to the Federation, has created problems for the Walker Government.

Casanarch held a press conference at Claire House earlier today regarding the incident.

"First, I would like to state that I have no idea who recorded or leaked this private conversation. However, it is certainly alarming that a call between a nation's Foreign Ministry and embassy was somehow intercepted by a third party. The leak is currently under review by Glytteronian intelligence services" he said. Reporters quickly began shouting to ask questions.

"I will take questions, but not at this time" Casarnach said in response. "I would first like to address the comments by several Vredlandian officals aimed at myself and this government. For reference I said that 'Biblical conservatives are insane', not for their faith in the Bible, but rather for their repeated attempts to circumvent the separation of church and state and implement Christian policies on a secular nation. After all, insanity is repeatedly preforming the same action or task and expecting the same result. So it is a fair use of the term here."

"The rhetoric used by Vredlandian officials, most notably Minister Fritz, is excessive, rabble rousing aimed at firing up their base. I would like to note that my comments were made in a private phone call, not made in front of members of the press corp - as Mr. Fritz's were. It is one thing to condemn what you believe is wrong, but to do so while being a hypocrite proves you are simply standing in front of a camera for attention."

"It is also simply outrageous to begin labeling those who support equality, as I do on all fronts, as 'gay-lovers', as it is being used in a hateful way and is harmful to the LGBT+ community. This government and this nation stands firmly with the LGBT+ community in Vredlandia, Sveltlanan, and the Federation and will always be a voice for equal rights under the law" Casarnach said before shuffling papers on the podium in front of him.

"Now, onto the Federation and its continued bathroom crisis. It is evident that, while the term idiot is subjective, President White has continued to prove he is in fact ignorant and it is not outlandish to say he is a bigot either. His comments towards the LGBT+ community continue to indicate this. He claims people who have a sex change can use the restroom that corresponds with their gender identity. However, how can you tell the difference between someone who has had a sex change and someone who is transitioning without checking their genitalia? This is no solution at all, and he simply wishes to maintain discriminatory polices" he said before taking questions from members of the press.

Taoiseach Walker also chose to meet with reporters outside her office to discuss the controversy. "I stand by Minister Casarnach. He is a more than competent Foreign Minister. While his comments may have been poor in taste, it is important to remember they were made privately and not in a public setting. Personally, I have heard foreign heads of state and government say far worse things behind closed doors. Just because he is a public figure that does not mean he has surrendered his right to freedom of speech." Once she finished speaking she declind to comment further and returned to her office.

In a statement from Maude O'Kane, the Chairperson of the Liberty Party, said that "I would like to remind the international community that the Liberty Party is a conservative party. However, we have never included social conservatism in our party platform as it is a barrier to true equality and liberty, something this party firmly supports".

Some members of the opposition, specifically the Social Democrats, have called for Casarnach's resignation. Bess Douglas, TC for Gayneva East, said that "Casnarnach has proven he is incapable of leading this country's foreign policy and should resign at once". The Social Democratic leadership has declined to comment on the issue. Pádraigín Ó Baoighill, the leader of the Free Marketers, also declined to comment.

Elsewhere in the government the travel ban on government agencies to the Federation has recently come to frutation in a proposal bill by Social Democratic TC Matthew Dougharty. The bill is expected to come to a vote following Thursday's Seanad elections in order for it to be sent to the upper house for approval. The governing coalition, along with the Leftists and Greens, have already indicated their support for the ban and it is expected to pass.

Online, the reponse to Casarnach has been mixed. Many Glytteronians have taken to Twitter and other forms of social media to defend him. However, support in the Federation is rare. An article from the Asterian Iliadwebsite, a site where young Asterians submit articles for their peers to read, titled 'An Open Letter to Frank Casarnach' went viral. The article, which blasts Casarnach for his "immoral, irreligious ways" and his "open attack on the Lord and all Christians" was shared by hundreds of thousands across all platforms of social media. It was written by a college student by the name of Andrea Little, who describes herself as a "Christian and servant of the Lord" and quotes several verses from both the Old and New Testaments in her biography on the site. Frank Casarnach has described himself as an atheist before, stating he does not believe in any god.

As the controversy continues to swarm, it is only a matter of time before the situation continues to deteriorate for the Foreign Minister.

King Ferdinand IV talks Casarnach
23nd May 2016

Image
King Ferdinand IV held his annual 20-minute talks with "Vredlandia Abroad" today

Reichstal, Vredlandia

Following the harsh discussion between Glytteronian and Vredlandian officials, King Ferdinand now addressed the issue for the first time on Vredlandia's foreign radio channel "Vredlandia Abroad". In the talks that were originally meant to be about the renewed Royal Educaation Funds, he found no good words for Glytter's Foreign Policy and Frank Casarnach. Concerning Casarnach, he said the following:

"I wasn't in contact with Mr.Casarnach much, because that is the task of our Secretary of State. He could be a friendly and diligent man. As Foreign Minister, he should have known better than replying rudely to his already embarrassing comment leaks, though. Of course the same goes for Mr. Fritz, and I informed him about my stance on his choice of words, but he is Minister of Justice, and not of Foreign Affairs. I don't see why Mr.Casarnach even felt the need to react to him, when foreign relations are only in the hands of the Secretary of State and myself, as well as the states of the Kingdom."

Asked if he talked to King Kenneth about it, His Majesty showed his willingness to discuss it.

"No, and I do not intend to. I had a long discussion with the Glytteronian ambassador, in which I exchanged my views with him. If His Majesty wishes to talk to me about the comments of Mr. Casarnach and/or Mr. Fritz, I will naturally discuss them with him, too. Other than that I do not believe we should divert any more attention to these comments than they already received."

Finally, His Majesty was asked whether he would consider excluding students from Glytter from receiving his funds.

"No, with the renewed funds we have created the chance for foreign students, especially from fellow Euclean nations and Asteria, to learn about our culture here and to visit our universities. Why should we exclude Glytteronian students? Because of their Foreign Minister? I like to think that this issue wouldn't exist if we had tried to understand eachother. Vredlandia wants to offer foreign students an insight into our nation and citizens, and I think these students will learn that we are absolutely not as dangerous or evil as the so-called "free world" likes to make everyone think. Our citizens are safe, satisfied, well-educated and healthy. Instead of making minority rights a major national issue, we want to eradicate poverty and strive technologically. Is that such a despicable thing? I hope not. And I hope others will learn to understand our point of view."

Image
Vredlandia's #1 Star, Baron Max von Waldhain, found it all "amusing"

While the nation seemed to be divided on the issue last time, by now there is a clear distinction between both sides of the issue. Some defend Mr. Fritz, while most disagree with his language as well as the one of Mr.Casarnach. Both Secretary of State Bold and our 'biblical conservative' in government Marlene Wollnitz had a rise in popularity numbers, while the Chancellor lost a few points, seemingly due to a lack of reaction to the comments. Relations with Glytter are not seen as any less important, but fewer Vredlandians trust Glytter.

Most celebreties commented on the issue as well. Baron Max von Waldhain, who is on tour right now [Subscribe to Der Patriot now and you'll have the chance of winning one of the last tickets available!] couldn't avoid commenting on the situation either. During a show he said it was somewhat disappointing to see what behaviour can get you into government now. He added Casarnach's insult of Mr. Fritz ("hypocrite") only makes them seem like bickering children even more. The Baron then went on to sing a comedic song about children.

Leftist satirist Engelbert Hambenbruch was one of the few to side with Casarnach. "In Vredlandia", he began, "everyone is free to llove whoever they want. At least as long as they're not gay.. or lesbian.. or from a higher class." Hambenbruch is not to be taken seriously, though, and is known to have given monetary aid to the prohibited Left Party. He only avoided investigations through payments of several thousand Vredenmark.

Mr. Fritz, by the way, declined to comment on the new Casarnach statements. So maybe the letter of His Majesty did do something.

CASARNACH EMBROILED IN FURTHER CONTROVERSY
Controversy surrounding comments made by the Foreign Minster continues to rage

SPALGLEANN – Recent developments have put the Casarnach Controversy back in the international press once more. Following comments made by the King of Vredlandia, Ferdinand IV, a new response from Frank Casarnach as well as a statement from St Ellen's Palace were both made earlier this morning.

While leaving Clare House, Casarnach was stopped by several members of the press. One of them asked the Foreign Minister regarding the Vredlandian monarch's interview.

"I am pleased to see he has presented himself in a calm manner, something other members of his government have failed to do. That is very admirable. However, I must disagree with him. Given the coverage the comments by Minister Fritz had received in the international press. It is sheer insanity to expect me not to respond" he said before declining to comment further.

A spokesperson for St Ellen's Palace also met briefly with members of the press earlier today.

"His Majesty would like to state that there has been no communication between the King of Vredlandia and himself. As King Ferdinand IV said, His Majesty believes it is best for the press to stop addressing this controversy. Instead, His Majesty hopes that the international community would instead turn its attention to more pressing matters, such as human rights abuses."

Taoiseach Walker herself has denied to comment further, but her office has released another statement of support for the Foreign Minister yesterday. The leader of the Social Democrats, Darragh Ballíck, told the press earlier today that "The controversy surrounding the Minister of Foreign Affairs is disappointing but not surprising" and critisised the Walker government for "not keeping him on a tighter leash".

With the upcoming Seanad elections only two days away, only time will tell if the controversy will have any impact on the results. 25 of the Seanad's seats are up for grabs, one representing each of Glytter's counties. Only 25 of the 60 seats are directly elected and those elected are chosen through a winner-takes-all system.

DITO Repression of LGBT Rights
Sveltlana and Asteria Crack Down on LGBT Communities

Tianjing, Songguo -

A number of members of the Grand Assembly spoke passionately today against the wave of anti-LGBT legislation being passed in DITO nations, including Sveltlana and the Asterian Federation. Deputy Lin Huihong, a Workers' Party delegate from Luyuntong District in the Shanhuhai'an Governorate who recently was made an appointed delegate, was notable for his hour-long barrage against the repression being carried out by the imperialist powers. Deputy Lin called the new policies "discriminatory, unfair, and utterly ridiculous", and referred to President White of the Asterian Federation as an "absolute clown", a "buffoon", and "a bigoted circus monkey". Several high-ranking delegates from the imperial family also blasted the policies, with Princess Zhen Yuhuan calling for "international denouncement of DITO's regressive bigotry." Even several National Front members joined in the condemnations, bringing all three main factions together in their outcry about the new Svelt and Asterian legislation. National Front Undersecretary of Agriculture Liao Honghui also commended Glytter for immediately responding to DITO's new wave of discrimination, saying "Glytter has set an example for the civilized world to follow in standing against the repression of the imperialist powers."

The Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Qin Lien, also issued an official statement.
"Songguo completely condemns this wave of regressive and discriminatory lawmaking we are seeing now in several DITO states. We applaud all those, even DITO member states, who condemn such rhetoric and legislation, because it simply has no place in modern civilized society. The rights of all people, regardless of sexual orientation, should be respected. We also call on fellow members of the Sermaye Treaty Organization to condemn these bigoted policies and call upon Asteria and Sveltlana to bow to international and domestic pressure and to not continue to try and implement such divisive and discriminatory policies." The spokeswoman also announced Songguo would be issuing a warning for its citizens who wanted to travel to Sveltlana and Asteria, particularly those who did not identify as straight or cisgendered. "We believe that in the current political climate in some DITO nations that our citizens should take additional precautions when travelling there."

Several state-owned corporations are expected to announce the cancellation of projects being developed in Asteria and Sveltlana, including a proposed methanol plant in Eastern Asteria and a plastics production facility in Sveltlana that had been being developed under the auspices of the Budai Trade Initiative, launched in 1990 to encourage foreign investment by Songhua companies and individuals. The government of Namkwon also issued a statement shortly after the statement from the Foreign Ministry, similarly condemning DITO repression and regressive policies and blasting the Asterian and Svelt governments in particular.

Anti-LGBT/Transgender bill proposed to Senate, named 'En Bevaring av Frihet Handling'.

Image
Senators debate during a Senate Assembly.

Øvknya-Åvblera, Blekenjegen: Two days ago the Senate assembled in the Hovedstad Kvadrat, only for many of the senators from left-wing parties to be shocked, and many of the senators from right-wing parties to be surprised and happy at the same moments of time.

The reason for this was the proposal of the 'En Bevaring av Frihet Handling', the 'The Conservation of Freedom Act', which proposed the complete banning of same-sex marriages, as well as disqualifying 'transgender' from counting as a gender, and proposing that the only two genders in Blekenjegen would be male and female. Anti-LGBT and anti-transgender talk is nothing new in politics, but when the bill was proposed, it was surprising to all groups.

The 'Big 5' major political parties, the right-wing 'Høyre Parti', 'Nasjonal Parti', and 'Rød Parti' parties, along with the two left-wing 'Demokrati Parti' and 'Igjen Parti' parties all had their opinions on this bill, the right-wing parties in favor, and the left-wing parties, as expected, not in favor.

Høyre Parti Statment: Party Head Juho Samuel said to SNKS reporters: "We, we are in support of this bill. The All-Father (Editors Note: Juho is a outspoken believer of Fornsen) gave each and every one of us two genders, male and female. Being gay or being transgender violates the ideas the All-Father had when he created us. These people are sent to be received by Hel in death if they do not get a sense of their wits in life."

Igjen Parti Statement: Party Head Niilo Markus said to SNKS reporters: "The simple fact this bill was even drafted in the first place if wrong. All people should be able to be whatever they choose." He declined further comment on the bill.

New Bill Causes Public Outcry

The 'Civil Union Act of 2016' Has Caused Quite a Stir in Nihon

Fukoshama, Nihon -
Today, following two months of negotiations and reforms to the bill titled 'Civil Union Act of 2016,' it has finally passed. This bill, in short, completely abolishes all notion of marriage involving the state, and redefining marriage in terms of the law as a 'religious ceremony' instead of a state one. However, civil unions are to created by the state recognizing that two or more people regardless of identification of gender or that of sexuality are to be regarded as one to give the same benefits that a marriage previously held.

While this is seen as a great leap forward in terms of previous legislation passed, it has been criticized by many conservative and religious figures who have been pushing for more power of the church and religion in government and calling marriage a 'necessary for society'. These criticisms have been met with silence by the government who have refused to address them. However, the Emperor reportedly supported the move wholeheartedly.

Another criticism brought up by opponents is the bill's support for polygamy. Calling it a possible rote for tax invasion which have been repeatedly shot down by a wide variety of experts and Diet members. However, one thing that has stuck is that many call it a challenge to 'societal norms' which the Emperor reportedly said, "Then let society change or forced to be change." Regardless of either side it is a big step forward for all in the nation of Nihon.

SONGHUA MISSILE TEST TO PROCEED OVER INTERNATIONAL OBJECTIONS
State Council Returns Fire Against Overseas Criticism

Henri Chiu (@H-Chiu )
25 May 2016 12:15 AM | Baishadao Special District, Songguo

Image
This photo shows the last test of the BF-31 ICBM, conducted in January.

Baishadao Special District, Songguo -

The Songhua Defense Ministry announced today that the scheduled test of the new Bei Feng-31 intercontinental ballistic missile will proceed, despite the tests inflaming regional tensions and drawing widespread criticism from around the world. The last test, in January, drew furious recriminations from the international community after the missile "experienced rapid unplanned disassembly" and some debris passed through Negaran airspace before landing in international waters in the Banfura Sea. The passage of the debris led the Negaran air force to scramble fighter jets in response, and Negaran authorities briefly even threatened to prevent Songhua ships from attempting to retrieve the debris from the sea floor. The announcement that this test will proceed is expected to draw tremendous anger from Negara, though no official statements have yet been released.

The Bei Feng-31 is the latest addition to Songguo's massive arsenal of missiles and rockets, an advanced ICBM believed to be capable of carrying a large number of MIRVs and possibly hypersonic glide vehicles. So far, no tests have been performed displaying any MIRV separation. Pierre Lafreniere, a senior rocket engineer with the Gaullican space program, discussed what the missile's tests had shown so far.
"So far, I would say the BF-31 has probably seemed to be a disappointment. Both of its tests so far have ended badly, the first when it blew up still trying to get out of the atmosphere, and the second in January when it tumbled out of control and broke up on re-entry. We haven't even seen any attempts at separating multiple warheads or independent targeting, just tests of its engines and of a single-target re-entry. However, I would caution against dismissing it as a failure. The Songhua missile forces are extremely experienced at designing new rockets at this point and I fully expect that once they work out the kinks the BF-31 will prove to be quite formidable. We've already seen indications that it has an absolutely incredible throw weight, and I think a lot of the problems that we've been able to observe so far- breaking up on re-entry, explosions during the primary stage- are not necessarily indicative of big design flaws, but probably just of issues on the production line in producing every single component exactly to specifications. That's really what makes many modern rockets so challenging, because we have the ability to design systems that should work one hundred percent of the time. But the problem is, when you have four hundred thousand components, is every single one of the little things- each of which is critical to the whole thing- was every one of them produced exactly to specifications and fitted exactly in place? In any case, I think the next test, while the diplomatic fallout will be significant, will be quite interesting for rocket scientists and military engineers in Songguo and in other nations to observe."

The Songhua Foreign Ministry also released a strongly-worded statement emphasizing Songguo's right to test defensive weapons, saying that the BF-31's eventual deployment would "ensure the continuing strength of the country's nuclear deterrent and thus help promote regional stability" and stating that the tests would provide critical information that could not be gathered otherwise to help in the process of phasing the missile into active duty. In light of the country's strong rivalry with Negara and the recent sore spot of the last missile test, as well as recent friction with DITO over Songhua condemnation of the actions of some DITO states against their LGBT communities, the latest BF-31 launch is widely expected to raise hackles in an eternally contentious corner of the world.

Kingdom of Vredlandia outraged, recalls ambassador from Glytter
23nd May 2016

Image
Senior Secretary of His Majesty, Erwin Lamter, had an announcement to make

Reichstal, Vredlandia

And Glytter did it again. Just when King Ferdinand graciously offered to lay the issue to rest, Mr. Frank Casarnach rudely called him insane. By now Vredlandians almost exclusively know him for his rude remarks.

The King heard about the remarks during his visit of the National Opera. Visitors saw him talking to his assistant for a bit, before they disappeared for several minutes. What made some think a national emergency was close, was in fact the moment King Ferdinand recalled the ambassador of Vredlandia to Glytter. As we exclusively heard from the ambassador himself, he was not allowed to announce it it until King Ferdinand returned to his office, out of courtesy for Glytter. Then the embassy and the Office of His Majesty nearly simultaneously announced the decision to recall ambassador Herbert von Wölk.

According to His Majesty, Vredlandia would not honour a government that considered him insane with an ambassador to their nation. “It’s outrageous”, his Senior Secretary commented in front of media. Von Wölk served in Glytter for nearly a decade. He said it is a decision he absolutely supports, although it is saddening for him to leave Glytter behind. “I always expected to die in my office in Glytter”, he joked, and then returned to seriousness. “I dedicated a fourth of my life to improving relations between Glytter and Vredlandia. In a way I am angry to find such ignorance in form of Mr.Casarnach. But more so I hope that I will be able to work on our relations again, once the local government has a different approach to them.”

Vredlandia's armed forces held their exercise in international waters off the coast of Glytter

In further news, the naval exercise that was known to be held in the Perovo Sea and North Sea, moved further East near the coast of Glytter. While unexpected for some, the Chief of Staff reassured that the maneuver was not connected to the current issues.

The maneuvre is a joint maneuvre of the navy and airforce. While real ammunition was used, nobody was harmed, not the least due to strict rules during the maneuvre. Prince Albert of Vredlandia, uncle of the King and admiral in retirement, was one of the viewers of the maneuvre. "It was a very successful last day of the exercise. We saw some minor issues with our airforce, that will surely be fixed. All in all we are more than ready to defend our Kingdom by any means. As a Vredlandian, I feel very safe." Asked whether he thinks it's inappropriate to have that maneuvre near the Glytteronian coast now, he said: "No, I don't. It was long announced and already going on. If anything, it shows what peaceful times we live in, when our navy can exercise near foreign waters without any disturbances. Just imagine what damages we could have done from here!"

It was the last day of the exercise. They will now return to their harbours in Vredlandia, where families and media await them.

Rhaetian Congress vote to end isolationism

Rhaetia to join CSS, but not EC

Curia, Palace of the Rhaetian People

After a further meeting of the Congress of People's Deputies, the lower legislature of the Rhaetian People's Assembly has voted to pursue membership of the CSS (Commonwealth of Socialist States), but rejected to motion to join the EC (Euclean Community). This vote is a momentous one in the history of the new regime, the Second People's Republic; previous Kollist* thinking admired isolationism and, needless to say, many party leaders were reluctant to consider membership of any intergovernmental organisation. Now that the vote has gone through the Congress, it goes to the Leader's Council of Leader Aden Tgaptelas for final ratification. No doubt hardliners of the Leader's Council will make things difficult.

Rhaetia's new Kollist regime is shaky, to say the least, with uprisings in the Saephia Region and protests in western Rhaetia, and also conflict inside the government. The Rhaetian People's Party (PPR), the sole party of Rhaetia, is keen to be seen as a modernising force both in Rhaetia and in Kylaris. Integration in the international system is seen as a key to this, though this move seems unlikely to buy any friendship with her neighbours. The CSS, though ideologically admirable for the PRR, is not popular in the surrounding countries. Military security could be one reason behind this move. The EC was dismissed as too close a union for the Second People's Republic, which is no big surprise for Rhaetia.

*Kollism is the special communist nationalist ideology of Rhaetia, espoused by Leader Koll of the Rhaetian Revolution

Image

Tavau, largest city in the Saephian region

Meanwhile, Leader Aden Tgaptelas has raised the alert warning on Saephian terrorism. The Saephians are Rhaetia's largest ethnic minority - widely believed to be descended from Balaguari tribes who migrated to the region in the Dark Ages - and generally oppose the new Kollist regime which is Rhaetian-nationalistic. Troops have been deployed in the Saephian towns of Tavau and Bravuogn and military blockades have been installed across large Saephian areas. Saephian and Pan-Balaguari militias have declared the Sapürna Orrepublika (literally Saephians' Republic) in the Saephian mountains and are engaged in conflict with Rhaetian troops. The Rhaetian Army may soon be placed on war status, which would mean de jure civil war in Saephia. A government spokesman says concessions to any 'separatist' Saephian group, including the more moderate Saephian National Party, are not on the table.

Fortunately, maximum effort is being made to ensure the Trans-Saephian railroads - the core of the country's vital transport system - will remain open for as long as possible. These train lines link the northern Plessurli half of Rhaetia to the En valley and Puschlav in the south, and also international rail to Caesena, Balaguar and Lusitania. Saephian militias have tried disrupting and sabotaging transport in the Saephian range, though without much success so far.

Further details to follow.

VREDLANDIAN PRESENCE IN GAYLIC SEA 'OUTRAGEOUS'
Foreign Minister Casarnach suspended as Vredlandian naval vessels enter the Gaylic Sea

The HMS Spálgleann responding to the presence of Vredlandian ships near Glytteronian waters.

SPALGLEANN – As the Vredlandian ambassador to Glytter, Herbert von Wölk, was recalled by King Ferdinand IV of Vredlandia the foreign nation's flotilla involved in naval exercises in the Perovo Sea moves 'dangerously' close to Glytteronian waters. The Vredlandian actions come following the temporary suspension of Frank Casarnach as Minister of Foreign Affairs.

In a press conference held earlier today by his deputy, Margaret McNamara, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs read a statement that labeled the Vredlandian exercises as "dangerous and intolerable" adding that "while there may be a diplomatic dispute as a result of a misunderstanding, it is reprehensible for a foreign nation to try and threaten another state. While his statements may have been poor in taste, it is important to remember that while Casarnach may be the face of foreign diplomacy he is still entitled to free speech, a human right that should be respected by all governments. It is clear the government of Vredlandia not only wishes to suppress dissent domestically, but now internationally. Let it be known if a violation of Glytteronian waters by Vredlandian naval vessels occurs, this government will see to it that a complaint is lodged in the Community of Nations." She declined to comment further and promptly ended the press conference.

The situation only continues to worsen as a government spokesperson announced that Glytter would be recalling its own ambassador from Vredlandia. Ambassador Rory O'Malley has served as ambassador to Vredlandia for just over five years. He has yet to make a statement regarding the incident, but a statement released by the embassy confirmed the recall as a temporary measure.

Taoiseach Alexis Walker also told members of the press that "it is a shame that while the Vredlandian government has stated its hope for harmony and an end to this dispute it has decided to recall its ambassador, effectively ceasing diplomatic ties between our two nations, all while attempting to strong arm our nation's government". She latter went on to add that the Vredlandian decisions were "deeply concerning" and that "Vredlandia cannot threaten a member of the Euclean Community without the issue being raised before the EC as a whole. If Vredlandia does in fact violate Glytteronian waters, the EC may be forced to take action against it."

"I have personally spoken to the leaders of Sveltlana, Gaullica, and Estmere and thank them for their unwavering support" Walker said before leaving the press corp and returning to her office.

Dr. Murdoch Fitzwallace, a tenured professor of politics and international relations at the University of Spálgleann, said that there should be "the utmost concern" regarding the "Vredlandian aggression". "A right wing, monarchist state has used its military and its military agreement with another state in order to threaten a third state over the comments made offhandedly by a government official. This is right out of the playbook of the Phony War" he continued.

Furthermore a leak from St Ellen's Palace claims that His Majesty the King took a private call from King Ferdinand IV. The leak also goes on to claim that there was "heavy pressure" put on the Taoiseach to suspend the Minister of Foreign Affairs. Both the Palace and the Taoiseach's office have declined to comment on the issue, as has Frank Casarnach. Some of the more radical members of the Leftist Liberal Party condemned the King for "any unconstitutional pressure" used, as party Chairperson Regina Reynolds said in a Tweet. Ivan Melnikov, the leader of the Leftists, has attempted to distance himself from Reynolds saying that "the claims made by this 'leak' are currently unfounded and it is unfair to jump to conclusions at this time" in a statement earlier today. The Kaxakh ex-pat often finds himself distancing himself from Reynolds, who is seen as the de facto leader of the party's more extremist wing.

With Seanad elections tomorrow, it is currently unknown whether or not the Vredlandian moves will have any impact on the election results. 25 seats are up. Polling in various counties with what are expected to be contentious races indicate gains for both the Liberty Party and the Free Market Party.

Blekenjegian Waters: Kommandør-i-Sjef Yrjö Erno announced yesterday that the two most recently completed ships of the Blekenjegen Marinen, the Nils Class 'Svenheim' and 'Vas' would be taking part in a military exercise in Blekenkegian Waters in St. Ragnar's Sea, two months after the completion of both vessels construction by Blekenjegen Skipsbygger Inc, a government-owned shipwright company. Both ships are, according to declassified reports, armed with (as known currently) 1 BAE Mk. 117 57mm gun, as well as 4 50. caliber machine guns spread out among the ship, as well as 2 Mk44 Bushmaster II 30mm guns each. It is speculated that the ships may have more weaponry, however.

The captains of both vessels, Cpt. Kjell Markus, commanding the 'Svenheim', and Cpt. Pontus Asgeir, commanding the 'Vas' will be participating in wargames against each other for the next few days. Both the government and the military say the wargame has nothing to do with recent events.

LIBERTY, FMP MAKE GAINS IN SEANAD ELECTIONS
Liberty holds ten and gains two while the FMP gains two seanad seats. Greens and Leftists out.

Cathaoirleach Shannon O'Brien (LP) has served as Cathaoirleach since 2011 and as Seanadóir for St Ellen since 2006.

SPALGLEANN – Party officials for both the Liberty Party and the Free Market Party are declaring victory following today's Seanad elections. After a week of controversy both at home and abroad Glytteronians took to the polls to elect 25 seanadóirí. This year's elections saw gains for the nation's conservative parties at the expense of the more leftist parties.

Of the nation's 60 seanadóirí, only 25 are up directly elected. 15 seanadóirí are directly appointed by the Taoiseach and are almost always dismissed by new Taoiseachs, who tend to appoint members of their own party. The remaining 20 seanadóirí are appointed by various groups such as national universities, religious institutions, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. There are nine Lairds Spiritual, 6 Lairds Academia, 3 Lairds Commercial, and 2 Lairds Agricultural. Their goal is to provide expert opinion on legislation when it arrives for the approval of the nation's upper house.

Polls opened today at 6:00 AM local time and closed at 8:00 PM. Turnout is estimated to be about 73%, which is average for Seanad elections. Turnout for the Comhthionól Náisiúnta elections, which will occur on 12 June 2017, is on average 89%. There were very few irregularities reported today. Final tallies will be made known tomorrow morning, but a winner in all of the 25 races has been declared.

The conservative parties made gains in this years elections. The Liberty Party managed to hold 10 of its 11 seats while making gains in both Lyrone and Tarenny. The party now has 12 seats in the Seanad, more than it previously held. Party chairperson Maude O'Kane hailed the election's results saying "today was a good day for Liberty". The governing coalition, made up of the Liberty Party and the Centre Party, now has a total of 30 seats.

The Free Market Party made its own gains, managing to pick up two new seats and hold its previous seat. The party held onto its seat in Taois while gaining seats in Banríon and Pouth. In Banríon, the FMP managed to unseat Greens seanadóir Bairre MacCeallach while in Pouth the party managed to defeat Liberty seanadóir Enya Kiley. Party leader Pádraigín Ó Baoighill said hse was "very happy" with the results and that the "fight for our values will only continue to carry on until the fall and beyond".

It was at the expense of the leftist parties that Liberty and the FMP made their gains. Both the Greens and Leftists lost their sole seats in the Seanad while the Social Democrats lost one of their seven seats. The Leftists and SDs both lost seats to Liberty in Lyrone and Tarenny respectively while the Green lost their sole seat to the Free Marketers in Banríon. The Centre Party managed to hold their three seats while all other parties failed to get a seanadóir elected.

The new Seanad will meet for the first time tomorrow following the swearing in of the seanadóiri. King Kenneth IV will officially open the 41st Seanad in a ceremony on Monday. The new Seanad is expected to have a bill banning government agencies from traveling to the Federation of Asteria following the nation's decision to controversial bathroom laws. The Seanad has the power to delay legislation as opposed to vetoing it. Likewise, it has the ability to send legislation back to the Comhthionól Náisiúnta. However, this delay can be immediately overridden by a 2/3rds majority vote. The most significant role of the Seanad in modern politics is the role of its elections in gauging the political climate of the nation for the upcoming TC elections just over a year latter.

Tianjing, Songguo -

The planned test of the BF-31 ICBM went ahead last night at the Dianqingshan Missile Facility, despite objections from several imperialist powers and their mouthpieces and puppets in the Community of Nations and other locations and organizations. The missile test had been scheduled since January, when the last BF-31 test launch was performed, also over the baseless objections of imperialist powers. The rocket was launched at 11:00 PM local time, and successfully entered orbit, deployed several reentry vehicles, and then successfully re-entered the atmosphere. Thus far, all re-entered components have been located and are in the process of being retrieved. The Strategic Missile Troops spokesman, Colonel Wu Guozhi, commented briefly on the test for the media.

"Our recent test of the Bei Feng-31 intercontinental ballistic missile has gone extremely well. The missile performed well on all criteria and successfully separated its dummy warheads, which also performed well on their reentry. The test is a significant improvement from our last, when the rocket experienced rapid unplanned disassembly upon reentry, and we believe it shows significant progress towards phasing the Bei Feng-31 into active service."
Colonel Wu also stated that the Strategic Missile Troops have tentatively scheduled the next test launch for June 8th, but that this date was subject to change. He added, "Obviously this is much closer to this evening's launch than this evening's launch was to the January test, but we believe that the missile's improved performance and the improved availability of materiel for testing means that the next launch should be moved up."

Rocket engineers and ballistics experts hailed the test as a sign that the BF-31 is maturing as a weapons system and that its engineers have worked out some of the few minor problems that caused failures in the missile's previous two tests. There is still speculation, however, about the exact nature of the 12 reentry vehicles launched by the missile. Some have speculated they may not have been conventional MIRVs at all, but rather more advanced and capable hypersonic glide vehicles. The Strategic Missile Troops have refused to comment on the matter.

Our glorious Hero of World Communism, Premier Yuri. Love him, citizen.

SOVIET SOCIALIST REPUBLIC OF TESLACHATSKI -
TSN reporters from inside the Supreme Soviet of the Soviet Socialist Republic of Teslachatski report that about 35% of the Supreme Soviet, with a planned 50% this week have and will be executed due to how "venomous" and "poisonous" the Supreme Soviet has become in recent years. The one who ordered the execution was the newly appointed Chairman, the wife of current Hero of the Revolution Yuri, Natasha Nikolev. She ordered the execution of about 35% of the Supreme Soviet yesterday, which she lists as them "not loving Husband" and general treason against Teslachatski. Of course, many TRAITORS have said otherwise. Here is some words from a disgusting anti-Yuri traitor.

"She clearly just doesn't like the ones she executed. And when I say "doesn't like" I mean she just doesn't like them for petty reasons like one of them gave her a look which she felt was rude. It's petty and juvenile-Hey, what are you doing with those soldiers?" This TRAITOR has been executed on charges of not loving Yuri. All citizens love Yuri.

The people of Teslachatski's new representive in freedom and world communism, who fights the corruption of evil capitalist asterian spy deputies.

The new Chairperson has this to say on the matter.

"The reason why I have to execute bad deputies, is because they all spies who want my husband who is hero of revolution and world communism to be removed from power so asterian can go boom on freedom and happiness of Teslachatski. Why you do this, asterian spies? All we of Teslachatski want is to continue our traditional, free, happy, communist way, without interference from greedy capitalist lifestyle. Right of worker in Teslachatski most important. But no, Asterian's like President Ronald White can't mind their own business and have to try and spread with their DITO friends, like other capitalist cesspools like Vredlandia, Gyltter and Svetlandia to destroy Teslachatski and its traditional way of life."

The chairperson took out a handkerchief and cried for about three minutes before returning to her speech.

"I cry because capitalists are always trying to bring down worker and hero's like husband Yuri. I sad because Asterians always trying to bring good countries like Teslachatski down because they all capitalist scum who want country to go boom like nuke. It is bad enough Asteria uses military power to get what it's wants at the expense of worker and free nation, but the only nation that stands for the worker and peace is Kaxakh. Kaxakh and Teslachatski are eternal ally against DITO. All the other nations, Nihon, Negera, Songguo, Gyltter, Svetlandia, Vredlandia, all of them just want to watch Teslachatski and Kaxakh burn and become capitalist cesspools. Very sad."

We thank the Yuri-led government for these enlightened statements on issues that affect us all.

'En Bevaring av Frihet Handling' passes in Hovedstad Kvadrat, made into law.

Assembly of the Senate in 2015.

Øvknya-Åvblera, Blekenjegen: Today, despite controversy around the world regarding the proposal of the En Bevaring av Frihet Act, the bill was passed in the Hovedstad Kvadrat, the Blekenjegian Senate, with a 70% majority vote. The reason for the majority stems from the fact that a majority of the Senate is conservative, 3 of the 5 majority parties being conservative.

The leader of the Høyre Parti, Juho Samuel, was quick to respond to the passing of the bill in a press conference only hours ago. He said this to SNKS reporters: "I am extremely relived that this bill was passed by Senator Laase Santeri... Gay and Lesbian Marriage is a sin which cannot be redeemed, as well, the idea of a person being able to switch genders at will is total insanity. I would like to thank him for spearheading this bill."

The head of the Igjen Parti, Niilo Markus said this to SNKS reporters: "I am actually rather shocked with the amount of support for this. It is a clear transgression on human rights, allowed to exist thanks to bigoted conservatives who wish to have everything be like the 'good old days'. It's rather un-believable that this bill would force a person to be a male or a female, and not allow them to have a say in their gender."
