GROZNI, BAHTAR - In a shocking turn of events, the Bahtari Army has launched an offensive against the Bahtari Freedom Front which recently looted several police stations of weapons in the city of Grozni and using those weapons, engaged in firefights with the police and capturing several districts and the outskirts causing a Siege between police officers and BFF Operatives. With lightly armed police officers being pushed back, the Bahtari Army has decided to step in. Entire armored brigades have been seen heading towards Grozni to retake the city. Even the most valuable TOS-1s of the Bahtari Army were filmed shooting rockets at rebels positions on the outskirts. Grozni Police are trying as hard as possible to hold out in the few areas of the city still controlled by them until the army can break the siege. Local police in nearby Bahtari cities have taken precautions to defend against any threats by other BFF forces. It is estimated that there are 2,000 BFF casualties and 2-3 thousand Grozni Police casualties so far. Grozni Police Second In Command Ali Khaleed was killed after a BFF sniper shot him while on duty. The situation in Grozni is dire and government forces are doing all they can to recapture the city and break the siege of Grozni. In order to minimize civilian casualties, auxiliary police officers evacuated civilians on KrAZ busses out of Grozni through alleys and war torn streets. 5,000 civilian casualties have been done so far, but 7,000 civilians have been evacuated or fled the city. Some civilians have even organized a militia and are helping police officers resist the siege by countless BFF operatives. The strength of Grozni Police is currently 5,000 but the number of BFF Operatives are unknown, but are estimated to be about 6,500. Even now, not many are certain how the situation in Grozni is going to play out as more military forces are diverted to break the Siege of Grozni. Chief of Grozni Police, Cheif ibn Qeshm, broadcasted a message to the populace of Grozni, encouraging the populace to stay strong in this dark time. Everyone can only hope that the Siege of Grozni is broken by the forces of the Grozni Police and Bahtari Army.

Initial reports and rumours surfacing which have suggested the unexpected passing of Emperor Connor I and Empress Alice I have been confirmed earlier in a press conference called by Foreign Minister Alexander Winter, who is currently acting as interim head of the Imperial Council.

“It is with great regret that I am informing you all of the untimely passing of their Imperial Majesties, Alice and Connor.” he said before almost the entirety of national media outlets.

When questioned as to what would happen to our country next, Mr Winter, who was understood to have close personal links with the late couple, told us that in truth he did not know, but expected a period of national mourning followed by elections.

This news has allegedly prompted a handful of minority groups to protest for countrywide reform in the streets of our cities. The police force have these under control and are monitoring the situation, according to a statement issued by the Minister of Homeland Security, Hans Schnieders. “We are commited to ensuring that order is maintained before our country moves forward and elects a new leader.” he said in a television interview broadcasted this lunchtime by CNC.

In related news, President Ise Adar of Kuganda has claimed that he is the rightful heir to the throne, and that all who say otherwise are 'obote scum'.

Aran Bizdikian Killed in Daylight Shooting!

News shook both communities of the Surban Religious Divide as news broke of the killing of Aran Bizdikian, a well known Zurabist paramilitary leader. The shooting took place outside of Surb Yanna's Primary School, where Aran's kids attend. From images released by security cameras, a brown sedan can be seen speeding down the street opposite the school before coming to a halt near Aran, who is seen to collapse moments later, before the car speeds off and leaves Aran in a pool of his blood as other parents and their children run away. The Surban Kamavorner announced responsibility for the murder, stating that 'Bizdikian was a monster to the Papetists of Budvi and to Surban. His death is a relief to those he has targeted through his actions.'

This is the first major attack on a Zurabist by a Papetist since the Riots that evicted Semag Ekshian from his home and Surban back in 1917. The Zurabist community has reacted with shock and sympathy for the family of Bizdikian, while also condemning those that orchestrated the killing, especially given its location. Bizdikian was the leader and founder of the Budvi Zurabist Miltia and was responsible for a number of attacks against the local Papetist community, with which is a minority within the Zurabist dominated Budviban.

The smaller, however extremely vocal, Papetist community have greeted the killing with enthusiasm, declaring the end of a criminal who unfairly targeted the Papetist community of the city Budvi, and of Budviban as a whole. A small mural was painted in on the corner of a Papetist house declaring the killers 'Heroes to the Papetists.'

More worryingly is how the Budvi Zurabist Miltia Military Office replied, stating that 'As the Kamavorner killed our leader and founder in cold blood, we shall return the favour, however we will not kill only one and we will not speed away like cowards...' It is thought that the BZM have promised to kill several of the Kamavorner members in revenge for the killing of Bizdikian.

Despite the obvious need for police intervention or military crackdown, the Police Office are unable to respond to the threats or charge any culprit they captured as the Constitution of Surban forbids the police charging anyone as the courts lack legal power due to the government shutdown and the Constitution requires the Courts only have power when the government is open. This clause, as ridiculous as it seems, was written to prevent judges from charging anyone whenever they wished, and has been controversial since it was written. It cannot be corrected due to the Government Shutdown.

The Military is just as useless as, while it may have its own separate command and is legally allowed to act without the Parliament being in session, they are not allowed to detain anyone outside of the military structure, leaving militias free to do as they wish.

CAMPAIGN SEASON APPROACHES, MIRONOV RISES IN POLLS

Mossenburg – Campaign season is almost upon us! The three month endeavor that will grip the nation is set to begin in just over two weeks, on June 1^st. The intensive campaigning will then last for the entire summer, until August 30^th, giving all prospective officeholders 90 days to reach their voters and hope that their policy resonates enough to get them votes. This is an especially crucial election, with sitting Chancellor Boris Zaitsev's decision to retire from the office after only one term, something that has not happened in the past six decades. Since the Social Democratic Party will not be able to automatically nominate Zaitsev for a second term, it has to find a candidate that will replicate the support that Zaitsev had captured in the 2014 election. However, there are some favorites in the party that are likely to gain the nomination, and the Party Congress convenes tomorrow, hopefully to decide the nominee. The SDP has 7 days to do so, and it will be a nail-biter for them.

What normally happens with second-term bids for incumbents is that they will ride on the support that they have gotten, election by election, both through policy support and name recognition. If Zaitsev had chosen to run for a second term, analysts have him winning the election with huge margins, capturing at least 52% of the vote. Now that the Social Democratic Party has to run a new candidate for Chancellor, those margins will shrink dramatically, and the SDP could win a third of the vote, or in some forecasted nightmare scenarios, less. Meanwhile, rival parties are shoring up support for their own candidates that they have been planning to run with since March, all supporters' favorites for the party. Here's who they are.

[CDP] Christian Democratic Party - Antonin Feinberg
The minor party of Feinberg is going to try again, after 8 years of supporting the Social Democratic Party. It seems that Feinberg sensed that the SDP didn't have a candidate prepared to nominate for the upcoming election, and it would try to get ahead of the SDP, and gain large waves of support before the SDP's campaign could materialize. It's a risky move for Feinberg, since it could jeopardize their relationship with the SDP, and push the SDP away from the Christian Democrats. If this were to happen, the CDP would have to look right and try to coax their social-right friends into supporting them over the Social Democrats.

Political analysts don't think that the CDP will be able to make any gains this election, in either the national elections nor the state and local elections. The support just won't materialize for Feinberg and his party, since much of the populace that would share their ideals are either divided amongst the Conservatives or the Social Democrats. However, if their campaign doesn't pan out in the early weeks, Feinberg has promised to back another party that would best represent its ideals, and there's no telling if the CDP will continue to back the SDP as it has done in previous years, or if they will go out in search of greener pastures. His position as Party Leader in the Bundestag should be able to give him bargaining power when his party is figuring out which other party they will align with this election cycle.

[CPH] Conservative Party – Ernst Sigfried
He's back! After a 16 year hiatus from politics, the former governor of Konigstedt is ready to make a bid for the Chancellery in the name of conservatism. The 72 year old politician-turned-businessman is foraying back into politics after handing down the tomato business that he has been nurturing for the past decade and half. Sigfried background is known to many across Heugeschland, with arguably one of the most famous rags-to-riches stories in the nation. He credits his success to his family's conservatism during the Recession of 1950, and is ready to take that brand of conservatism to the national level after nearly doubling his net worth to $2.3 billion.

The Conservative Party of Heugeschland is expected to make a comeback this year, after lagging behind in national elections since 1998, after the schism that led to the Libertarian Alliance. While it isn't expected that Sigfried will be able to make the runoffs, if there are any, it is expected for him to lead his party to perform better than they did last election, where they struggled to break 5% in an all time low for the Conservative Party. The appearance of strongman Sigfried is likely to revitalize the conservatives and lead the KPH to victory in numerous state and district contests. The Bundestag is what is being fought for, here.

[LA] Libertarian Alliance – Christina Kaufman
The rising member of the Bundesrat from Scharstatt has made headlines recently as she began speculating on making a run as the Libertarian candidate, and now it is all but confirmed. The Libertarian Alliance is set to make the confirmation tomorrow morning, at the Mossenburg Central Square, with thousands planned to attend. Her candidacy is likely to bring out a side of the Conservative Party that will lead to fierce opposition between her and Sigfried. Kaufman is set to get at least 20% of voters, if mainstream polling is to be believed, but those numbers have been dropping for nearly two weeks in a row, causing alarm in the party. It's not clear where the supporters are going if they're not backing Kaufman, but the general guess is that they're going for either the resurgent Conservative Party, or the firebrand Nationalist Party.

Losses are forecasted for the Libertarians as their opponents rise. The Conservatives and the Nationalists are making impressive gains in the polls, compared to the Libertarians' performance in recent polling. The Libertarian Alliance seems to have chosen Kaufman in an attempt to identify with female supporters, causing them to be accused of political pandering. Regardless, their party leadership says that the choice would be made in order to bring a fresh face to the Libertarian Alliance. The hope is to continue their moderate successes with a new line-up of politicians, so that a smooth transition can be made between older officeholders and younger candidates.

[NP] Nationalist Party – Vladimir Mironov
The man who has shocked media, political analysts, and the general public is now running for the Chancellery. Mironov has been described as a "bigot", an "idiot", and "obtuse", with pie-in-the-sky ideas and promises that will likely never pan out. Mironov was born in Turpengrad in the 1950's, as the Recession was hitting millions of people nationally. His politics and economics comes from those of his father, a man that he says always told him to "never trust the Germans, and most especially, never the English." However, since his father died when he was 14, his mother took on the task of his political teaching. Mrs Mironov broadened the distrust of her husband from the distrust of other ethnic groups within the nation to those outside of the country, or "foreigners". This translated into his current policy of putting Heugeschland first, and then dealing with foreigners later. He also promised to build a "big, big wall" on the Coldwateran border in the north, and to increase funding for the Navy and Coast Guard as to prevent incursions on national waters.

Mironov, as the current Budget Committee vice-chairman, has been pushing for a budget that will not service the "welfare state" that he accuses the current Social Democratic government of constructing, but these attempts have met stiff resistance. His policy platform is one of practical revolution, and this has got people worried, as he has seen a massive increase in the polls, jumping to 23% nationally since he announced his intention to run in this election three months ago.

[NPV] National Party of Volikaya - Natalia Rostova
Currently the governor of Gradevska, she is a 51 year old Nizhny Kavirsk native and a graduate of the Novski School of Law. Rostova has been in politics since she graduated in 1993, and she has been governor since 2008. The National Party of Volikaya was co-established by her and several other governors in 2010, and she chaired the Party from 2010 to 2015, opting to not chair as to be able to be eligible for election in 2016. She has been the favorite to be the nominee, and momentum has been building across Volikaya to get her elected. This is the first time that the NPV has nominated a candidate for the Chancellery.

However, her politics, and the politics of her party, are very Volikaya-specific, and the politics concerning Heugeschland in general are very status quo. Despite this, many political pundits think that many offices will go the way of the NPV as her campaign sweeps the states of Volikaya. The increase of seats in the Bundestag and Bundesrat are likely to be small gains, but local and state offices will likely see a large increase of NPV party members. The goal here for Natalia Rostova is not to ultimately become the next Chancellor, but to increase visibility across Volikaya and across districts of Heugesch states with high Volikayan populations.

[USP] United Socialist Party – Hans Brandt
The renowned leftist of Heugeschland is yet again making a run for the seat of the Chancellor, and will likely not win, again. His policies are socialist, as is to be expected with the party's name. Brandt has been the Party's standard bearer for the past two and a half decades, consistently running every two years for the Chancellery, and increasing support marginally. His lack of success with the Socialist Party can be attributed to the general populace's hostility toward the far-left due to the ideological conflict in the 1930's. However, younger people are identifying as socialist, and are adding to the Party's ranks.

Brandt has announced that, this year, he will take the campaign out to the people in a grassroots fashion, and win people over with the controversial capitalism vs. socialism debate, and convince people that lean leftward and would vote for the Social Democratic Party that socialism is what they want, not capitalism. This type of approach can be dangerous to the left, since the Social Democratic Party could be facing an implosion if they cannot nominate a suitable candidate, and the Democratic Party and the Socialist Party could divide the once-massive leftist bloc into many fragments unfit to be vying for the Chancellor's seat.

Military declare crackdown on Militias and Militias fight back!

After tense silence and no word from the Surban National Defence Forces, it was thought that the paramilitary war would continue to rage in Surban without so much as a finger raised towards it. However, it appears the opposite is true. At 2000 hours, the Military Command Committee, which allows the Surban National Defence Forces to operate without government approval, announced that they will take the role of government into their hands until order could be restored in the Parliament.

Until then, the SNDF has stated that they will combat any militias that openly do harm to others so that the death rate can be brought down. Immediately after the announcement, social media was ablaze with denunciations of the move by various militias, while some swore that they would not only continue to attack the opposite side, but also attack and harass the National Defence Forces outright and without mercy, regardless of Papetist or Zurabist affiliation.

Experts and analysts have warned that this move further risks the already fragile state of Surban statehood and cooperation between Zurabists and Papetists, and risks plunging Surban into a Second Civil War, which has not been seen since the Communists were defeated by Azat Surban.

One analysts commented "Surban, as idyllic as the country may be, is at risk from all possible angles. Its neighbour, Greater Allidron, still harbours grudges over the Border Wars and subsequent terrorist actions taken in the name of Surban, while within the country the stability of everyday needs and commodities are threatened by the increase of violence. Supplies cannot reach families for fear of getting killed, while families cannot feel safe in a city they've lived for generations. Surban is going through a dark and difficult time in its life, and I'm not too confident in its ability to survive..."

'NEW BAHTAR PROJECT' COMMENCES: TO BE FINISHED BY 2025'
The 'New Bahtar Project', a project to provide apartments to all inhabitants of Bahtar has commenced and construction is estimated to complete by 2025.

STONE TOWN, BAHTAR President Mohamed Abdallah Bacar announced today that the New Bahtar Project, a project to provide apartments for all Bahtaris has been commenced. He has also stated that these projects will be finished by 2025. At the current time, Bahtar has a large number of unemployed and homeless people - 15% of the population is homeless and 20% live in houses without permanent walls - so this project is said to beneficial to Bahtar in the long run. The construction has not come without problems though, as it has been reported that taxes have been raised and appeals for foreign aid has skyrocketed just in order to build the apartments. Several socialist states have given economical support to Bahtar to help Bahtar's socialistic plans to provide housing to all the population. The new apartments will come with basic furniture, a Stasnovan-built television, radio and clean water, something not common in Bahtar prior to this project. Other appliances are included in these apartments too. The apartments are completely free of charge and all services are provided by the Bahtari government. The construction will be done by Bahtari state-owned construction firm Khan Construction Co., with help from other, smaller companies. Most of the Bahtari treasury is being poured into this ambitious project, with millions of dollars being poured into the construction and planning. This project will overall improve Bahtar's development. President Bacar has said in an interview yesterday, "The New Bahtar Project will help the poor, homeless, peasants and working class of Bahtar. These apartments are prestigious and completely free! Every single Bahtari will have homes and places to live." President Bacar's opposition has refused to comment on his ambitious plan, but a a large number of poorer Bahtaris have applauded President Bacar's project and donated money so they could have a better life in the future. This project is just one step forwards for Bahtar to become a socialist paradise.

Parades are expected to take place throughout Hirazyo and Nakashima, as the newly crowned Empress plans to visit both cities, with the latter being Mirevia's largest city. During the coronation, Empress Katsuya Akiyama made her first official address to the nation:

"It is an honor to be leading this nation today we observe today, one that my predecessors worked hard, fought, bled and died for. This day is a celebration of freedom, A day of renewal, as well as change. For I have sworn before you,People of Mirevia, as your Empress, that I will do what is in my power to keep this nation that you and I live in, a free and safe one. The world is very different now, for humanity holds in his mortal hands the power to abolish all forms of human poverty and all forms of human life, in an instant. To those old allies whose cultural and spiritual origins that are shared, we pledge the loyalty of a friend and an adviser in time of need. If we stand together, there is little we cannot do. The opposite shall also apply, if we divide ourselves, there is little we can do, for we dare not meet powerful challenges torn from each other. In other news, Hirazyō has been shown to be the most technologically advanced city within the borders of Mirevia. Reports show in a 2014 study and comparison that Hirazyō far excelled any other city in advancements of technology, with Nakashima, Mirevia's Largest City, being second to the capital. The Government of Mirevia is said to be researching and developing more and more technology every day. While all the cities in Mirevia, by World Standards, are technologically advanced. Hirazyō currently holds the crown for being the most developed.

Suttaku Station Open to Others!

Suttaku Station, a space station that has long served as an object of national pride for all of Cinoth, has recently become available to crews beyond those of Cinothian research teams. Recently Kaylee Eshe has determined that in order to foster the eastern alliance's technological growth and contained development the use of the station by most members of the eastern alliance would be authorized.

Originally launched in early 2000 Suttaku Station would be rapidly improved and added onto by the Cinothinan government along with special research groups. The station was meant to help conduct a myriad of tests that would hopefully lead to residence within space in the upcoming decades. As time has moved on the research has reportedly shifted to the effects of radiation on the human body along with long-term habitation studies that should lay the groundwork for future generations to one day live in space. Although the dream of living in a massive space station is far off Kaylee Eshe has stated that she hopes with an influx of new scientific minds new discoveries and insights into the universe will be realized.
