Re: National Standards Questionaire

Postby Othyl » Tue Jul 14, 2009 1:06 am

1 - What is the legal drinking age? There is no legislated or widely enforced drinking age. Most establishments won't serve those under 18 however.

2 - Driving age? Again, there's no enforced age. Once you prove competence to the local registrar, you're good. Usual age however is 15.

3 - Age of sexual consent? The government tends to stay out of private residences.

4 - Voting age? Voting? You mean like in elections? Where'd you get the impression we have those. Everyone is a consumer and determines things based on who they buy from.

5 - At what age would someone become an adult (free from parental control)? Usually 17-18. Though the line is again not formal. Financial independence brings legal independence.

6 - What types of recreational drugs (if any) are legal? The government stays out of private residences and most business. Everything is legal unless under the influence someone causes problems, then police are brought in. Use of any recreational chemical is officially considered to remove you from most privileges such as driving.

7 - Can people have guns? Military hardware ownership, of all kinds, is unrestricted. Othyl employs a private military and police force, so private citizens cannot be limited. Usual practice involves both parties meeting in person, and sellers discriminate against the mentally inept in that manner. Most hardware is registered, but generally unregulated except by the industry.

8 - What is the official full name of your country? What is the informal name? What are people of your nation called?
Formal: The Incorporated States of Othyl and the Associated Territories
Informal: Othyl or ISO
Demonym: Othylite

9 - Do you have the death penalty? Since policing and most legislation rest in the hands of the private sector, a national stance on capital punishment would be relatively pointless. Public executions have been known to occur in some areas, while back-alley and vigilante justice is also wide spread. But a few more idealistic regions have done away with it.

10 - What is the speed limit? There's no legislation for speed limits. Transit companies post signs suggesting speeds, but it's not really enforced. That being said, punishments for driving related crimes are rather severe.

11 - What types of religions are permitted or restricted? There is no limitation on religion. That being said, there is no primary religion. Othylites usually will say that they're religious, but very few belong to a formal church.

Which of the following are legal:

12 - Porn - Generally an untouched industry. Some moralist groups have formed and passed de facto legislation to keep children out and the employees consensual. General public outrage prevents too much of the extremes from being popular enough to produce. Before the Collapse, laws were pretty strict and the public expects it to be the same.

13 - Prostitution - Legal with extreme self-regulation. Most business takes place in registered brothels, though 'house calls' aren't uncommon. Employees have a strong incentive to remain healthy so routine physicals of employees and customers are widespread. As an industry standard, a full physical more than three days old isn't accepted. It makes the industry rather unpopular, but it gets by.

14 - Polygamy/Polyandry/Polyamory - There's no legislation against it, though cultural rules step in and keep most folks to one spouse. Though legal partnerships are available for any number of persons to be considered a single entity, the laws on the books relating to it aren't really about marriage.

15 - Homosexuality - The government once again, stays out of a private residence. Legal partnerships are available.

16 - Stem cell research - Encouraged by the scientific community in Othyl. The advances it's brought so far has nearly all Othylites in support and the government doesn't like to stifle progress.

17 - Human Cloning - Legal and encouraged. A lack of resources for it however means that the technology is limited to well-funded biotech firms who keep their work out of the public eye due to widespread cultural misconceptions. A subtle PR campaign is on-going to change public opinion.

18 - Cock Fighting? - Fights between humans are legal, so no one saw a reason to make it illegal between chickens. Occasionally idealists will start a ruckus, but the public doesn't really care.

19 - Slavery? - Technically, it's illegal. However, it's not uncommon for corporations to exchange employees, or make contracts for what basically equates to slave labor. Temp agencies are jokingly referred to as slave auctioneers because of the contracts they make. The few prisons that exist also put convicts to work for no pay.

20 - Hunting? - It's not illegal, but you'd be hard-pressed to find a non-urban area of Othyl. A few private reserves have been established, and those are legal to hunt at, assuming you paid to get in.

21 - Fishing - Same thing with hunting, recreational fishing isn't practical outside of private fisheries established for that purpose. Commercial fishing goes on in the territorial waters around Othyl, with self-regulation to maintain population density of the fish.

22 - Eating meat? - People eat far worse things, the government doesn't judge.

23 - Littering? - No legislation against it, though regulations of transit firms and land owners usually prohibit it. Generally, if caught, the bill for the waste disposal contractors is just forwarded to the offender.

24 - Unisex bathrooms? - The government doesn't hope to impose legislation on something as trivial as lavatories.

25 - Suicide? Euthanasia is perfectly legal, usually understood to be a last resort however. Suicidal tendencies are considered to be signs of mental illness and most cases are simply referred to psychiatric institutions.

26 - Gay marriage? - Legal partnerships are available.

27 - Abortion - Legal. Though the practice is frowned upon by the public, biotech clinics hungry for stem cells will occasionally pay women for their aborted fetuses. De facto legislation prevents most of these agreements however. No one goes around getting pregnant to abort the pregnancy for a quick buck or anything.

28 - What types of sexual activity (if any) are illegal ? - Whatever goes on in a private residence isn't the place for government. What goes on beyond that is up to the citizens to decide, they'll put pressure on the police if they think something is out of line.

29 - Is your country's/culture clothing optional or mandatory? - Mandatory in all public areas. Private businesses and homes remain unmonitored.

30 - Do you have obscenity laws? Regional broadcasters will filter what their customers prefer.

31 - What system do you have for taxes? There are no taxes per say. The government consists of 14 megacorporations with the influence and buying power to bend the rest of the nation to their will. Each business is on it's own extremely profitable and by choice funnels some of that into the government to fund various programs. Most services are privatized however with the government merely providing some additional funding and oversight.

32 - What is the criterion for someone to pass to become a citizen? All children of Othyl citizens and children born in Othyl are granted citizenship at birth. Citizenship for foreign nationals is available generally by revoking former citizenship and making a permanent residence in Othyl. Citizenship grants no significant benefits, access to subsidiary funds for a few industries is about it. Most immigrants do not ever apply for citizenship and their children become citizens by default. Everyone in Othyl is subject to registering items, businesses and activities that are monitored. Residents of the Associated Territories are loosely considered citizens of Othyl, but they follow the laws of the Associated Territories.

33 - What types of people do you allow (or not allow) into your country? - Othyl maintains open borders and just watches for flagged passports or outstanding warrants, that sort of thing.

34 - What type of government are you? - Quite simply put, a coporatocracy. After the former government collapsed, 14 megacorporations united their leadership and assets to bring order to the nation. The governing style is very hands off and at most monitors things. Law making and enforcement are handled at the local level, where market pressures are relevant.

35 - To what degree is your government allowed to censor or restrict the media? One of the megacorporations that makes up the government, Franklin Telcom, is a massive telecommunications provider. So they could control or censor a great deal of the media where they provide service, but they are funded by their customers, so they don't dare do something out of line with market pressures.

36 - Aside from laws - what sort of unofficial (and unenforced) cultural rules and traditions do you have? Just about every law on the books is a cultural norm or industry self-regulation.

Postby Goias » Tue Jul 14, 2009 8:36 am

The Democratic Republic of Goias

1 - What is the legal drinking age? 18.

2 - Driving age? 18.

3 - Age of sexual consent? 16. Formerly 18, this was a recent revision to correct the bureaucratic nightmare that resulted from the previous policy of the "tolerance gap", whereby anyone between 15-18 would not be prosecuted as long as the age gap between the person and the partner did not exceed 10 years.

4 - Voting age? 18.

5 - At what age would someone become an adult (free from parental control)? 18.

6 - What types of recreational drugs (if any) are legal?
- Pot - legal, heavily regulated.
- Tobacco - legal, heavily regulated, must be used in private.
- Cocaine - legal, heavily regulated.
- Alcohol - legal.
- LSD - legal, heavily regulated.
- Caffeine - legal.
- Heroin - legal, heavily regulated.
- Other? no other drugs are generally used or brought into Goias.

7 - Can people have guns? Yes, but must apply for a license, have no previous psychiatric or criminal records, have a waiting period and are subject to regulations (must have the safety on at all times, for example).

8 - What is the official full name of your country? What is the informal name? What are people of your nation called?

Official: The Democratic Republic of Goias.
Informal: Goias.
Demonym: Goians

9 - Do you have the death penalty? No.

10 - What is the speed limit? In general, within city limits it is 60 km/h and on highways it is 120 km/h, with no obligation to slow down in rural areas. The police force and planning comissions have the right to vary the speed limits in different zones to reduce the accident rate.

11 - What types of religions are permitted or restricted? There are no restrictions on religions as long as they do not run afoul of the law or attempt to defraud their followers.

Which of the following are legal:

12 - Porn. Porn can be bought and sold freely. The old restriction that all buyers had to be 18 was widely ignored, and has been discarded as unenforceable recently. Child porn is illegal but otherwise the government has no other regulations because there is no system to determine what else would be "offensive". Productions are required to have all participants be at least 16 years old.

13 - Prostitution - legal and government-regulated.

14 - Polygamy/Polyandry/Polyamory - Polyamory is allowed, but polygamy is not recognized legally except for religions which endorse the practice. The practice of being legally married to a partner while living simultaneously with others is accepted as long as everybody consents to it.

15 - Homosexuality- Legal, subject to the same regulations and age of consent as heterosexuality.

16 - Stem cell research - Legal.

17 - Human Cloning - Cloning of human organs for medical purposes is legal, but research into this subject is heavily scrutinized by the government in order to prevent misuse of technology.

18 - Cock Fighting? - Banned according to animal cruelty laws.

19 - Slavery? - Illegal. Involuntary labour is allowed to be performed by convicts as part of community service.

20 - Hunting? - Legal, with the exception of certain protected animals and requiring a license.

21 - Fishing - Legal, but regulated by the government.

22 - Eating meat? - Legal, subject to food safety laws.

23 - Littering? - Illegal, punishable by fine or community service collecting trash.

24 - Unisex bathrooms? - Legal, but the decision is up to the establishment.

25 - Suicide? - Legal, with the existence of a program meant to discourage such actions.

26 - Gay marriage? - Legal, with the same rights and restrictions as regular marriage.

27 - Abortion - Legal. Once a woman has decided to have an abortion she must have tests performed at a licensed clinic before the abortion itself, and they are only refused if the physician discovers that the procedure might have serious consequences.

28 - What types of sexual activity (if any) are illegal ? - All activities where one of the participants is below the age of consent or are performed without the person's consent.

29 - Is your country's/culture clothing optional or mandatory? - Optional.

30 - Do you have obscenity laws? If so - how would you define "obscene". - No obscenity laws, but there is a media rating system in place for videogames, movies, TV shows and radio broadcasts - attempts to extend the system to music failed. Official censorship and editing of works to "downgrade" the rating is banned, and retailers are banned by law from refusing to carry creative works that receive mature ratings but must make sure that anyone who buys works with a sufficiently high rating must be at least 18 years old. Broadcast of works with high ratings is allowed as long as their rating is specified, but the rest is up to the station or network in question.

31 - What system do you have for taxes?
- Income tax? Goias has a progressive income tax system.
- Sales tax? A sales tax of 5% is affixed to commercial products.
- Import/Export tax? All imported goods have an extra 5 rajes added to their price.

32 - What is the criterion for someone to pass to become a citizen?

1. with application - one applies for citizenship and is given a "waiting period" of 2 years during which he must reside in Goias, be actively employed or seek employment and not get into trouble with the law.
2. without application - the same criteria as with application, but the "waiting period" is 4 years.

Multiple citizenships are legally recognized, and citizenship law is based on the jus soli principle.

33 - What types of people do you allow (or not allow) into your country? - There are no restrictions, but people with large criminal records or recent convictions have restrictions imposed on them.

34 - What type of government are you? - Parliamentary democracy/Federal republic. The provinces have large degrees of autonomy in various areas of administration, but the central government handles foreign policy, internal policy (towards the provinces), taxation law and defense.

35 - To what degree is your government allowed to censor or restrict the media? If there is a story which can be proved beyond a reasonable doubt to endanger national security, or if a libel lawsuit brought against a story is successful.

36 - Aside from laws - what sort of unofficial (and unenforced) cultural rules and traditions do you have? Goians have a strong sense of social equality and tend to frown upon what they regard as ostentatious or conspicuous consumption. This is the only major tradition - others vary according to minority and area of the country.

The Federation of Sentient Peoples

What is the legal drinking age?
There is no legal drinking age in the Federation. Alcohol can be purchased at 22 years of age (or the equivalent for non-humans). For minors, defined as sentients who have not reached Federal Service Age, it is illegal for someone not their legal guardian to provide them with alcohol.

Driving age?
For the independent operation of motorized conveyances, one must not be a minor. Appropriate licensure for each mode of transportation is required. Self-controlled operation of local transportation vehicles by minors is legal with the consent of a legal guardian. City-controlled operation of local transportation vehicles by minors is legal in all cases, if the legal guardian is the owner of the vehicle.

Age of sexual consent?
One must not be a minor to independently consent to sexual activity. Written consent by a legal guardian for a minor to engage in sexual activity must be provided during post-adolescent years. It is illegal in all cases for a preadolescent to engage in sexual activity.

Voting age?
Suffrage is by no means universal. Successful completion of a Federal Service Term and five years residency (in addition to the Federal Service Term) is required to gain the right to vote.

At what age would someone become an adult (free from parental control)?
One is automatically freed from parental control when one reaches the Federal Service Age as defined by species.

What types of recreational drugs (if any) are legal?
All various types of recreation intoxicants are legal in the Federation, provided they meet the standards established by the Health and Welfare Directorate, and the appropriate taxes are applied. Transportation and production of mass quantities is also legal.

Can people have guns?
All non-minor Residents and Citizens have the right to possess a single, non-military grade firearm for self defense and recreational purposes. Members of Registered Militias are permitted to own, through their militia, a military grade personal or squad firearm. Registered Citizen Militias may purchase heavier weaponry through their militia if they so desire. Weapons purchased for militia purposes must be logged and trained with on a regular schedule as determined by the Office of the Liaison to the Registered Militias, a part of the Military Directorate. Appropriate licensure for operation of personal and heavier weapons is required.

What is the official full name of your country?
The Federated Commonwealths, Dominions, and Colonies of the Federation of Sentient Peoples

What is the informal name?
The Federation of Sentient Peoples, The Federation, or Sentient Peoples

What are people of your nation called?
Internally, people are classified into two groups – Residents, which consists of all minors and persons of Federal Service Age (or greater) who have elected not to complete a Federal Term of Service, and Citizens, who are Residents who have fulfilled the requirements to attain suffrage. Externally, the population is generally referred to as Federales.

Do you have the death penalty?
Yes.

What is the speed limit?
The maximum and minimum speed of operation of motorized vehicles is determined locally, not at a national level, and is determined by type of vehicle and location, and varies with conditions. Federal regulations on travel forbid the use of super- and hypersonic speeds without authorization.

What types of religions are permitted or restricted?
There is no restriction on the type of religions practiced within the Federation, as long as the religion does not practice activities which are otherwise illegal. Religious organizations are subject to the appropriate corporate laws as well.

Major Issues:

Sexual Activity: Pornographic activity and material is legal as long as it does not depict sexual acts in violation of other laws. Prostitution is legal as long as it meets the requirements for legal business practice as established by the Health and Welfare Directorate and the Transportation and Commerce Directorate. Beyond that, what occurs between consenting partners is not the business of the state as long as it violates no other laws.

Genetic Research and Manipulation: All forms of genetic research and manipulation are legal with the following exceptions: doing so without the consent of the subject, use of genetic research and production for the violation of other laws, use of genetic manipulation and research on sentient life forms to produce sub-sentient lifeforms.

Interpersonal Relationships: Interpersonal relationships are defined on a case by case basis among the participants, and the government has no role in this activity. No government benefits are given for the participation in binding relationship contracts. Benefits are given for the participation in a legally defined cohabitation relationship and a legally defined familial relationship.

Treatment of subsentient life forms: Subsentient life forms are only permitted the right to exist in such a manner as they are not abused. Unnecessary cruelty in treatment is absolutely forbidden under law. Unnecessarily cruel treatment for personal gain can be punishable by death.

Death of Sentient Life Forms: Consensual arrangements for termination of life are legal. Abortion of sentient life forms prior to individual capability to live is not considered to be termination of life. Abortion after this point is only legal if absolutely necessary to save the life of another sentient, such that the loss of life in that sentient would also result in the termination of the aborted life. Pre-individual life abortions are frowned upon by most cultural mores in the Federation.

Slavery: The possession of non-contracted slaves is punishable by death in the Federation.

What types of sexual activity (if any) are illegal ?
Non-consensual sexual activity is illegal. Sexual activity under the influence of intoxicants or other mind-altering substances consumed of one’s own free will is always considered consensual. Non-consensual sexual activity is punishable by death.

Is your culture clothing optional or mandatory?
There is no law requiring that sentient beings be clothed in public or private. Custom dictates that condition appropriate clothing is worn. Employment by the government requires appropriate clothing to be worn, and private businesses can set clothing standards for their employees.

Do you have obscenity laws? If so - how would you define "obscene”?
Obscenity is defined as that which the majority of the population considers to be at a surpassing level of inappropriateness for public consumption.

What system do you have for taxes?
A flat rate income tax is applied to all citizens, followed by a graduated rate on the basis of income. Corporate taxes at a flat rate are applied, along with a graduated rate on the basis of profits. Property taxes are assessed on owned true property owned by a taxable entity. Sales tax, along with additional luxury and entertainment taxes are applied to purchases. Valuation of import and export duties depends on the type of goods being transported and the working relationship between the Federation and the involved country. Additionally, some local areas define their own taxes to help support local programming.

What is the criterion for someone to pass to become a citizen?
Five years of residency followed by the completion of a Federal Service Term.

What types of people do you allow (or not allow) into your country?
Anyone is allowed to enter the country with proper clearance except for citizens and residents of nations with which either a black economic finding or a state of war exists. The clearance procedure, in theory, will prevent people being actively pursued by judicial forces from entering the country, though under special circumstances this may be waived. Travel visa requirements are proof of citizenship and/or residency, demonstrated ability to financially support one’s self while in country, and non-active criminality. People convicted of crimes under which they would have received the death penalty in the Federation are denied entry automatically. Sentients which belong to groups that fail to respect sentient life are almost always denied entry.

What type of government are you?
Libertarian Nationalist Elected Absolute Dictatorship, occasionally known as Libertarian Fascism.

To what degree is your government allowed to censor or restrict the media?
The government has absolute control over the media de jure, but in practice only restricts the distribution of classified materials.

Aside from laws - what sort of unofficial (and unenforced) cultural rules and traditions do you have?

As previously mentioned, there is a subtle dislike of abortion throughout the culture. Another activities which brought about public disapproval was the gratuitous abuse of public facilities and services. The government existed to protect people from other people, not from themselves.

Additionally, intolerant behavior was frowned on. All sentient life has a right to exist, whether or not you approve of its manner of existing. The only exceptions to this were life forms that would violate the sanctity of sentient life without regard for the violated life form’s right to exist.

While disrespecting a military symbols and personnel is not a crime, most of the population will treat an offender as if they had committed such. Intentional interference (or interference by negligence) with government activity is generally regarded as extremely negative behavior in such cases that the interference does not constitute a crime. It is generally accepted that the government is around to make things better, and if it occasionally inconveniences an individual, it is not personal, and the government is only doing so to make life better for everyone.

The public carrying of weapons was regarded as most other activities, as an individual choice. If anything, the level of paranoia demonstrated by such an activity was regarded with a fond amusement by most of the population, even if consciously, they all know there are only two types of paranoia…

28- What types of sexual activity (if any) are illegal ?
None are illegal. the governments stance on this is: "Have fun, guys. Just don't get mad at political sex scandals."

1 - What is the legal drinking age?

Varies by country, however generally either 18 (age of majority) or, in the presence of a parent or guardian, 14.

2 - Driving age?

Varies by country, however again generally 16 for a restricted learners' permit which, after six months, can be upgraded to a license.

3 - Age of sexual consent?

16+2/-2; essentially a sixteen year old can bed with a person between the ages of fourteen or eighteen years old, at seventeen the range becomes fifteen and nineteen, and at eighteen the range drops from sixteen to unlimited. Parents of children under the age of eighteen can file a court motion on their child's behalf to restrict contact with an individual over the age of majority, however criminal charges cannot be filed.

4 - Voting age?

Eighteen universally

5 - At what age would someone become an adult (free from parental control)?

Again, eighteen, however at seventeen a child can file for separation from their parents in the court system.

6 - What types of recreational drugs (if any) are legal?
- Pot - Marijuana is legal and loosely regulated; must be eighteen to purchase.
- Tobacco - Legal and also loosely regulated; must be sixteen to purchase.
- Cocaine - Legal and loosely regulated; must be eighteen to purchase.
- Alcohol - Legal and loosely regulated; ages stated above.
- LSD - Legal and loosely regulated; must be eighteen to purchase.
- Caffeine - Unregulated.
- Heroin - Illegal to possess without a prescription.
- Other? - Depends on effects and some other factors; varies by country.

7 - Can people have guns?

Gun ownership is considered an inherent right, however a permit is required to carry a concealed weapon. Generally such a permit can be obtained at age eighteen. Explosives and heavy armaments are tightly regulated, however some are legal to privately own.

8 - What is the official full name of your country? What is the informal name? What are people of your nation called?

Full name: The Eastern Havenic Kingdom of Cravan and Her Overseas Constituencies
Informal: Cravan, Cravanian Empire, Eastern Havenic Kingdom, etc
Demonyms: Cravanian, Cravno, Cravannic
Nicknames: Criv(s), Cravuck(s), Cravack(s) (Alacean insult), etc

9 - Do you have the death penalty?

Penalty of death is instituted by the state for crimes of treason or war, while it can be requested by the closest surviving family member with counsel from other family members of a murder victim. "Honorable" offenders, either members of a nation's armed services or otherwise, are killed by firing squad, while other offenders are sentenced to hang by the neck until pronounced dead.

10 - What is the speed limit?

Varies.

11 - What types of religions are permitted or restricted?

Religion is unregulated unless it specifically breaks a law, such as practices of human sacrifice or otherwise.

Which of the following are legal:

12 - Porn - Legal in all jurisdictions so long as the participants portrayed are consenting and over the age of eighteen.

13 - Prostitution - Legal so long as the prostitutes submit to a monthly physical examination by a doctor of their choice.

14 - Polygamy/Polyandry/Polyamory - Legally unrecognized.

15 - Homosexuality - Unregulated.

16 - Stem cell research - Unregulated.

17 - Human Cloning - Unregulated.

19 - Slavery? - Illegal in its entirety; it is assumed that, although possible through contract, a rational person would not willingly sign over the rights to their self ownership.

20 - Hunting? - Specifics vary by country, but legal everywhere.

21 - Fishing - Same as hunting.

22 - Eating meat? - Unregulated.

23 - Littering? - Illegal, unless done on one's own private property or express permission is given by the property owner.

24 - Unisex bathrooms? - Unregulated.

25 - Suicide? - Unregulated.

26 - Gay marriage? - Unregulated; all 'marriages' are classified legally as civil unions.

27 - Abortion - Varies by country.

28 - What types of sexual activity (if any) are illegal ? - Non-consensual sex is the only illegal sexual activity, which encompasses intercourse with an underage individual.

29 - Is your country's/culture clothing optional or mandatory? - Optional.

30 - Do you have obscenity laws? If so - how would you define "obscene". - Varies by country; many are leftover from previous years. Mostly covers public nudity, etc.

31 - What system do you have for taxes?
The Cravanian government levies a national personal income tax of 8.2% on all citizens, while a corporate income tax on all corporations who reap profits inside the borders of Cravan of 12.5% exists. Local and county taxes of up to 3% personal and 8% corporate also exist. The Cravanian government also levies a 5ɛ per gallon of gasoline excise tax. Other sales taxes are only levied at the country level and are relatively very low. Imports and exports are not taxed.

32 - What is the criterion for someone to pass to become a citizen?
An individual living within the borders of HM Realm for no less than one year legally may be eligible to take a test for citizenship.

33 - What types of people do you allow (or not allow) into your country?

"Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

Essentially anyone with a clean record/past. Immigrants/visitors from suspect nations (ex Doomingsland) are given fairly extensive background checks and are sometimes under surveillance intermittently for a period of time.

34 - What type of government are you?

A constitutional monarchy with a working parliamentary system.

35 - To what degree is your government allowed to censor or restrict the media?

Only on matters of public safety/national security, ex. printing the names of field operatives of the RSS, etc.

36 - Aside from laws - what sort of unofficial (and unenforced) cultural rules and traditions do you have?

Cravanian society is very conservative on most issues. Improper or 'unintelligent' attire will get you dirty looks in public from a variety of people, sexual deviancy is heavily frowned upon, extreme displays of affection in public are generally discouraged, as are displays of sexuality (ex. homosexuality is embraced however wearing leather chaps with chains and waving rainbow flags is very widely looked down upon). Many forms of sexual deviancy are discouraged, such as furryism, etc. Drugs such as marijuana, cocaine, LSD, etc are believed to be 'for proles and riff raff' and their usage is generally frowned upon; conversely the percentage of smokers is incredibly high and drinking is popular, however excessive drinking is also heavily frowned upon. While people are generally hospitable and welcoming, foreigners from non-western cultures are generally viewed with a great deal of distrust and suspicion. English is the de facto official language and few attempts are made to cater to foreign language speakers beyond localities (such as local minorities of French, Gaelic, and Irish).

Postby Conserative Morality » Wed Jul 22, 2009 7:00 pm

1 - What is the legal drinking age? 18, age of Legal Citizenship

2 - Driving age? Driving a private vehicle is rare. The Moralite government requires a license from a company or organization that has a test matching the Senate's requirements.

3 - Age of sexual consent? 16, assuming no serious mental problems that would bring into question the ability of the individual(s) to consent to such action.

4 - Voting age? 18, age of Legal Citizenship

5 - At what age would someone become an adult (free from parental control)? - 18, age of Legal Citizenship, once more. 16, assuming they are self-supporting and not receiving any major help from their guardians.

6 - What types of recreational drugs (if any) are legal? - The Moralite Government doesn't have the manpower to regulate any drugs, nor do they have any wish to. Rather, they merely restrict all drugs, minus medical drugs and caffeine, until the age of Legal Citizenship.

-Pot - Fairly popular. Falls under the same laws as public intoxication.

- Tobacco - Very unpopular, smoking on public property subject to HEAVY fines.

- Cocaine - Legal, almost unknown, heavily taxed.

-Alcohol - Legal, very popular, but includes public intoxication laws, usually followed by a mild to moderate fine.

- LSD - Legal, somewhat unpopular.

- Caffeine - Legal, very popular. It's a common joke that liver transplants are rare because it's impossible to find a Moralite with an undamaged liver.

- Heroin - Legal, almost unknown, heavily taxed.

- Other? Plenty Legal, not many heavily taxed.

7 - Can people have guns? The recent Moralite Study on the number of guns to Citizens was close to 3 guns for every Citizen, although only 80% of all Citizens owned a gun or had one or more in their household. Licenses are easy to acquire, and usually include little more than a quick psychological examination, and a course in gun safety. The only Legal Restrictions are on weapons classified as 'Moralite Army Exclusive', which is more an attempt to keep the army a cut above the Moralite populace than to actually restrict Civilian usage. All Military Jets and Aircraft go under this classification, as well as most weapons with an explosive yield. A few that are not on this list include: LAW, TNT, C4, Hand Grenades.

8 - What is the official full name of your country? What is the informal name? What are people of your nation called Formal: The Senatorial Republic of Conserative Morality Informal: CM Citizens: Moralites

9 - Do you have the death penalty? Yes, for extreme cases. Exile is preferred.

10 - What is the speed limit? 60 MPH, although there isn't much for private driving. Most Moralites prefer walking, alternate forms of transport, or Private Public Transportation.

11 - What types of religions would are permitted or restricted? All are permitted, none are restricted. Scientology has recently been reclassified as a Business.

Which of the following are be legal:

12- Porn - Non-animated child porn is illegal, all non consensual (Not portrays of non consensual, but if those participating did not consent) pornography is illegal.

13-Prostitution - Regulated, to slow the flow of STDs, not taxed.

14-Polygamy/ Polyandry/ Polyamory - Polygamy is Illegal, because of legal issues. Polygamous Ceremonial Marriage is still perfectly fine.

15-Homosexuality - The Senate has better things to do than to snoop around private bedrooms.

16-Stem cell research - CM does not fund it, that is not the Senate's duty. It is, however, perfectly legal.

17-Human Cloning - Lightly Regulated, all clones are granted the same rights as human beings when they reach the developmental stage where they would be considered such in the womb.

18-Cock Fighting? Illegal. Unless we're not talking about chickens, here.

19-Slavery? - Illegal.

20-Hunting? Illegal to hunt in CM's few preservations, so unless you like pigeon/stray dog/stray cat...

21-Fishing - If you can catch anything in the polluted waters of CM... More power to you.

22-Eating meat? Legal, a little expensive.

23-Littering? Illegal, and very rare.

24-Unisex bathrooms ? Erm... If the building in question has one... More power to you. I suppose.

25-Suicide? - Not 'common', per se, but not entirely uncommon. Euthanasia completely legal.

26 - Gay marriage? - We don't ask your sex when you get involved in a marriage, nor when you get out of one.

27-Abortion - Illegal past the sixteenth week.

28- What types of sexual activity (if any) are illegal ? Rape, Pedophilia, Bestiality. Animals and children cannot consent to such things, and rape implies that they have not consented.

29-Is your country's/culture clothing optional or mandatory? Ask a Moralite, it's mandatory. Ask the government, it's optional.

30-Do you have obscenity laws? If so - how would you define "obscene". - Public nudity is outlawed, toplessness is not. Public Intercourse is also outlawed. Both are punished with a mild fine and a night in the local Police Department's cell.

31-What system do you have for taxes? - A 5% sales tax on everything, except guns and ammunition, heavier taxes on explosives, punitive taxes on *some* drugs, extra tax on tabletop games and 'traditional' RPGs for their popularity. 10% flat rate income tax. Exempted for the unemployed.

31aSales tax? See above.

31bImport/Export tax? None.

32-What is the criterion for someone to pass to become a citizen? A grueling test on Moralite Culture, history, the way the government works, et cetera. After that, a few questions on personal habits, and, if a foreigner, reason for coming to CM and education.

33-What types of people do you allow (or not allow) into your country? Anyone who can pass the test, and is crazy enough to want to live here, let them come.

34-What type of government are you? Democratic Senatorial Republic. The Senate is Executive, Legislative, and Judicial, elected by representatives, who are elected by the people directly. Strictly restricted by the Moralite Code of Rights and Restrictions.

35-To what degree is your government allowed to censor or restrict the media? They have no power, minus libel and slander laws, in which case the statement must be proven a lie before they may impose fines or exile.

36-Aside from laws - what sort of unofficial (and unenforced) cultural rules and traditions do you have? For example – Jesus H. Christ, you don't want to know. Moralites tend to be aggressively rude, even violently hostile towards 'foreigners'. If they catch your accent, your talk of your homeland, or a completely foreign way of talking, dressing, et cetera, you're bound to be ill treated. And everyone is expected to show the utmost respect to men who are, and have served in the Moralite Military. If you show yourself to be intolerant to any ideology, minus Communism, or any religion, don't expect that sweet young lady next to you to "Accidentally" spill her drink in your lap, and refuse to apologize for an "Accident". You're likely to be harassed by people from all walks of life.

In the Pataari states, there is no existent government entity to declare acts illegal or enforce laws. Instead, enforcing or declaring laws in up for various local centers. Often anything is illegal unless someone seeks revenge or is seen as needing retribution by the local center, often in cases like that grievances are taken to local militias or warlards, who punish to the extent that is felt to be needed. In the most rural areas of the Pataari States farming or ranching communities need to be self reliant when it comes to policing and defense from others. Often, rural ranching or farming communities end up in fiefdom to larger cities and are provided militia defense by the larger city. In the extremely decentralized state, an inability to deal with famine and disease have led to the deaths of up to 100 thousand people. Also, Paco and Khat abuse have become very widespread and have become major issues.

1- 19, to give brain development time, but not annoy our residents. 18 yo's are allowed to drink light beer and can hang around bars and nightclubs however.

2- A learning permit is available at 16, provided the individual has no mental or physical disabilities that can impair their ability to operate a motor vehicle. After logging 5 months, they can shoot for a Permit, and after taking a licence test for Class C cars (compact and low-power) they may try for Class B and A cars, plus other licences, like trucks and motorcycles.

3- 16
