Point him in the direction of something disgusting but interesting, and he'll make a show of begrudgingly tolerating you.
I've never written a character so deliberately unlikable before (it's kind of fun). I'm actually surprised he's one of anyone's favorite guys, considering what a sarcastic, condescending prick he is.
It's up to you, of course, but if you're not having trouble keeping up with the thread, I would suggest just hanging back until you see a good opportunity to intervene rather than resigning. With everyone split into different locations, we kind of need a lot of people interacting to keep this rolling.

The following weeks he wandered around in the Zone, looking and scavenging for resources had cheated death a couple of times, but he knew, that if this kept going he would die. If he didn't get out of the Zone, his destiny would be sealed.
