This is absolutely not the same as saying "women who have abortions should be punished" because the situation and context is radically different.

Apparently pro-life groups see the woman as a victim of coercion, so therefore no punishment for the women. He is actually at a substantially different position from them.

A few months ago I had this very thought and I wouldn't be inclined to disagree with it. Would it be a good thing for today? Absolutely not. Additionally, Trump simply doesn't have Roosevelt's broad philosophy for the comparison to be wholesale, but it does exist to a degree. Like it or not, Trump is the Teddy Roosevelt of the 21st century.

No, because it's incredibly dumb to do so. It doesn't achieve anything, it doesn't solve anything.
Not even the social problems surrounding drug use and abuse.

No, the west needs to move on and start seeing drug use by individuals as a public health issue and not a criminal issue, and it can even continue the dumb war on drugs. Or move onto a much more sensible policy cracking down on drug gangs.
