Geography

The Byzantine Prefecture of the Ottoman Empire is located on an exotic planet found several hundred light-years away from Earth, in the solar system, Celaria. The planet that the Ottoman Empire is located on is called Hacivat. Hacivat is only roughly 48% land while the rest of the planet is covered in five distinct oceans, and six continents.

Oceans:

-The Dondurulmuş Ocean; This ocean is located solely at the southern pole of Hacivat, a thick layer of ice marks its boundaries. Though little is known about the creatures living beneath this ocean of ice, recent man-made intrusions into the ice have permitted a small insight into the environment beneath it, already twenty new species of marine organisms have been documented.

-The Sıcak Ocean; This ocean is located primarily around the equator. This temperate ocean is home to a variety of warm water organisms, most importantly a lively population of fish, which has welcomed a strong fishing industry into the area. Most maritime trade and travel takes place in this ocean.

-The küçük Ocean; This ocean is by far the smallest of the oceans. It separates North and South Alusia and borders the Sıcak ocean to its east, and the Büyük ocean to its west. A significant amount of Hacivat fossil fuels are located in this ocean. A series of disasters have polluted the ocean in the past, but new technologies have allowed the ocean to be thoroughly scrubbed clean of pollutants. Beneath its waters is a Mid-Ocean ridge, providing evidence as to why North and South Alusia are separated.

-The Büyük Ocean; This ocean is the largest of the five oceans. It seperates the Alusian landmass from Arsalar. Beneath this ocean lies a Mid-Ocean ridge, further evidence that plate tectonics are very much active on Hacivat, and the Alusia and Arsalar are slowly drifting further apart.

-The Iskan Ocean; This ocean is a pinnacle of human development on Hacivat. Much like the Sıcak ocean, it is located along the equator. When the first human settlers landed on Hacivat this was the first ocean they encountered, its lively fish population allowed several large, profitable fishing industries to develop in the area. Uygarlık is located in this ocean, and because of its location in one of the most profitable oceans of Hacivat several huge cities have developed here.

Continents:

-North Alusia; This continent is located directly above the equator in the Eastern hemisphere. Its center and southern portions have a mild climate, while the direct northern portion is a land of variable extremes. The western half is very mountainous, while the eastern half is full of arable plains.

-South Alusia; This continent is located directly below the equator, and south of Alusia. This continent almost exactly mirrors North Alusia, the west containing large mountain chains, the east containing arable plains. The center and north contain temperate climates, and the direct south is very cold.

-Pyrrus; This continent is the second largest continent in terms of population, most of the Ottoman Empire's industries base themselves out of here. This continent was the first to be terraformed into a temperate land.

-Uygarlık; This continent is home to the Ottoman Empire's government and maintains the largest population. Several large cities are located here and have caused most of this continent to be urbanized and industrialized. Most corporations have their headquarters based out of Uygarlık.

-Colulkesi; This continent is a barren land. Hacivat's largest and hottest deserts are located here, along with fairly large plateaus that nearly encompass the entire continent. Little civilization is located here, and large companies seek to terraform this continent into a "Breadbasket".

-Arsalar; This continent is technically not a true continent, rather it is a collection of lands and islands that are near enough to each other to be grouped into a continent. Many islands here are very mountainous and unable to bare a proper civilization.

Surrounding the planet is a beautiful set of rings, most likely caused by a planetary collision, which launched tons of debris into the underdeveloped atmosphere, that were eventually caught in the gravitational pull of the planet.

Economy

The economy in the Ottoman Empire is based mainly around a Freestyle Economy. As of late the economy has skyrocketed into a golden age, though this boost has come with its consequences. The Rich-Poor divide has grown greatly, the poorest of the poor can hardly survive outside of extensive welfare programs, while the rich enjoy a comfortable life at the top. The currency is the Akçe.

History

MT:

Formally known as the Ottoman Empire, the Ottomans fought on the side of the Central Powers during WW1, until their untimely defeat, and subsequent oppression at the hands of the Allies. The Ottoman Empire, after rebuilding its economy and military, and recomposing some semblance of diplomatic stability, remained neutral for the duration of WW2. As the war came to a close the Ottoman empire joined on the allies side, so as to assure a seat in the United Nations.

After the second World War, a period of communist rule settled in the nation. Under the guise of communist rule, a period of oppressive totalitarian dictators began their reign of tyranny over the nation, and subsequently tried to force its views on neighboring nations. After approximately twenty some odd years of oppressive rule, now commonly referred to as the 'Dark Years', Ottoman citizens had had enough.

Beginning with a series of peaceful protests, the citizens rose up from every corner of the nation to fight the Communists. The governments felt threatened, and rightfully so, and began to respond to these protests with armed intervention. This did little more than add more fuel to the fire. Ottoman citizens took up in arms, and after a period of intense fighting, along with foreign intervention on both sides, the Communist government was brought to its knees. The former oppressive leaders were put on trial, then executed for crimes against humanity.

With the old government gone, a new period of prosperity over swept the nation under its new Representative Democracy. Since then, Ottoman citizens and politicians take a firm stance against any form of Totalitarian rule, and often act extremely in cases of despotic dictatorships, or in any case that seems in the least bit oppressive.


FT:

Once Earth's technology reached FTL drives, the Ottoman Empire launched a massive relocation project. On the morning of November 15, 2122 the entire population, young, old, rich, and poor were launched off in 50,000 ERC craft.

They spent several Earth years living within a sphere created by combining all the ships. The makeshift craft provided a much more roomy atmosphere than that of the individual ships. Even through all the benefits, there were disasters, such as when the nuclear core leaked, evolving many unsuspecting citizens into grotesque monsters.

On August 12th, 2155 a probe discovered a completely habitable planet. One month later a three colonization ships landed on the planet's surface. At first it seemed as if things would be perfect, but several weeks later all contact with the colony was lost. Upon further investigation, to the shock of security personnel, it was discovered that the colonists were all slaughtered.

Four miles from the scene, Jakob Iscavov was found soaked in blood carving eerie pictures into the walls of the cave he was residing in. Upon interrogation Mr. Iscavov confessed to his crimes, his sole purpose was that on the morning of the massacre a young male approached Mr. Iscavov. Apparently this triggered something in his mind that took him back to the civil war on the ships. He killed the man and proceeded with his actions. He was tried in front of a jury and convicted as criminally insane, he was administered to a psychiatric ward where, after three months of treatment,he killed himself. His official death is recorded as October 21st, 2155 or, alternatively, October 21st, 1 AE.

Military General Description:

MT: The Ottoman Military, due to its stern stance on voluntary service only, is comparatively smaller than the allotted population of the nation would lead one to believe. Because of this disadvantage the military must work within Quality over Quantity parameters. Everything, utilized by any aspect of the military, is designed to the highest requirements of efficiency, accuracy, abilities to deal damage, and, above all else, safety. Everything a soldier may see during their service is designed in their best interests. Tanks, infantry transporting vehicles, aircraft, and water craft are all created with extra armor, specifically to crew compartments, and safety precautions to either eject, or protect the crew from immediate danger.

Since its reform in the late 20th century, the Ottoman military has retracted its imperial intentions, and begun to focus on homeland defense through countermeasures, and deterrents. Though, despite its defensive stance, the military regularly intervenes in foreign conflicts, either to preserve the integrity of said nations politics, or to prevent the collapse of civilization in that nation, which may end in disputes within the Ottoman Empire, which may or may not threaten the stability of the Empire as a whole. When focused on homeland defense, the military regularly engages radical militias, terrorist organizations, or even piracy, extensively trying to make the nation one of the safest, and most sound in the region.

A typical soldier in the Army may be found wearing a Type III ballistic armor called the Defilade. This armor utilizes advanced ceramic plates laid in overlapping positions, somewhat similar to fish scales. The position these plates are laid in provide an extensive amount of maneuverability, particularly in situations that warrant large amounts of movement. The positions that they are laid in also allow them to be easily replaced on the move or in the field. The vest protects the upper body, shoulders, and midsection of the soldiers who wear it, the material it is constructed from, and the advanced technology used to construct the ceramic plates, allow the vest to be light and versatile, though it is still considerably heavy.

The outfit of Ottoman soldiers typically consists of the Centra-63, a modular assault rifle that combines the versatility of an AR-15, with the stopping power of a 7.62 based rifle. The Centra-63 is chambered primarily in 6.7x47mm, or .263, Azrail. Some foreign and civilian models are re-chambered in 7.62, or even 5.56. Its gas operation and rotating bolt allow it to withstand a barge of dirt and grime, and still be able to operate fully. Modern materials allow the rifle to be light, and comfortable to the user. Even though the rifle is primarily made of metal, the hand guard, stock, pistol grip, and rails are made of plastic, and reinforced rubber. In the event that a soldier must rely on their side arm, they typically fall back on the Alzar-99. The typical explosive devise is the Mer-47, a stick style grenade. Other than those, the typical Ottoman soldier relies on the usual equipment of a soldier, flash bangs, tactical knives, concussion grenades, etc.

Ottoman Military Structure

-Ottoman Army;

FT: Regular Military units consist of Planetary Assault Units, which refers to units specialized in planetary assault. Their assault is followed by regular military units, then finally, after the fighting has died down a bit, colonization units are landed to fully establish an Ottoman presence on the planet.

Akıncı-
Divisions of soldiers that primarily task themselves with Reconnaissance, and Guerrilla warfare along the front lines of war. Unlike the irregular militia of the Old Empire, modern day Akıncı are members of the regular military, and are thus bound by peace treaties.

Sipahi-
The modern-day 'Armored Cavalry', Sipahi refers to any division in the Ottoman military that consists primarily of armored units (e.g. tanks, troop transports, etc.). Unlike the original Sipahi in the 'Old Empire', modern-day Sipahi do not use horses, or other similar animals, for transport or assault. Utilize the AIA Heavy Battle Tank "Land Shark".

Janissary-
Sultan's own personal bodyguard. These men and women are conscripted voluntarily from all aspects of the Ottoman army. These soldiers are considered 'elite', they are disciplined thoroughly throughout their career. They, of course, are allowed to marry freely and enjoy the same civil and political rights as any other soldier.

Navy;

Extrasolar Navy-
The Extrasolar Navy refers to any vessel, considered property of the Ottoman Military, that focus primarily on space operations they utilize the Sovereign class Super Destroyer along with the Klyvich class Heavy Battle-Cruiser

Planetary Navy-
Any vessel that participates in atmospheric and maritime operations, though any Extrasolar vessel can participate in atmospheric flight, this refers only to vessels that can also participate in maritime travel. They utilize the Ticonderoga class Destroyers

Air Corps;

The Air Corps refers to any Military aircraft that operates in extrasolar or atmospheric flight. The Air Corps utilizes the XMJ-457, these fighters reach a max speed of mach 9 when in space and only mach 5 speed in atmospheric flight. There are no subdivisions of the Air Corps as of yet.

Government and Political Structure

The government of the Sublime State of the Ottoman Empire, The Ottoman Empire, or sometimes commonly referred to at the Ottomans, is based around a Representative Democracy. The capital city of the Empire is Ankara, where the Sultan and his advisers meet every day to discuss matters of state in the Imperial parliament.

The Ottoman government has set up many agencies to aid the civilian populace, such as the Imperial Security Offices, to protect the civilian populace from terrorist and pirate attacks, and the Loyalist act, allowing government officials to question civilians suspected of spying or espionage, in time of conflict or heightened military awareness, so long as a warrant is provided.

Throughout the planet Hacivat there are several major cities such as Birincilik which was the first city established on the planet, and Kaynak which is the Ottoman Empire's major city of importing and exporting of resources, and Ankara, the Empire's sole location of politics.

People and Population

Throughout the Ottoman Empire and her holding, there are approximately 437 billion people. The populace is largely Human, though some alien populations have legally immigrated into the Ottoman Empire. This leaves 83% of the populace Human and the remaining 13%, Alien.

The populace usually reaches the age of 85-150. The average height is 5' 8"-6' 4". The population spiked in the year 330 AE due to increased sexual activity because of the planet's natural beauty.

Though the populace is urged to stay within Ottoman borders many people venture out to other bastions of civilization, such as Earth, of Byzantium. Most people within the empire practice Islam, as is tradition. The most common language among the people is Turkish. Though, there is no official language in the Empire, Turkish is considered the de facto language.

Celaria- Planetary System

Celaria is the name of the Planetary System which contains the planet Hacivat, home of the Ottoman Empire, along with four other planets. The central star, Celaria, after which the System is named, and approximately 237 natural satellites. It is situated near the South-Eastern portion of the Alpha Quadrant of the Milky Way Galaxy, coordinates (J,S) (5,4). A habitability range exists between 1.23 AU, and 2.17 AU.

~Star:

-Celaria, is a Yellow Main Sequence Star that is only slightly larger than Sol (approx. 1.053 Solar Masses)

~Planets: [In order from range closest to the Star, to farthest from the Star]

-Pyrrus, is the closest planet to the Star at 0.45 AU. It is an extremely small planet that contains no life, or any water. No atmosphere exists here whatsoever. Contains an iron core.

-Alexia, is the second-closest planet to the Star at 0.73 AU. Alexia contains a thick carbon choked atmosphere that traps solar radiation. The surface is extremely hot, the only water on this planet is exists within hot magma inside of the planet. Contains an iron core

-Karagöz, is the third planet from the Star at 1.30 AU. Karagöz contains a carbon dominated atmosphere, which causes somewhat severe greenhouse warming when it traps solar radiation from the sun. Water exists in the extreme polar regions as frozen ice. A small ozone layer exists here. Contains an iron core, and it is considered the polar opposite of Hacivat. Terraforming has since transformed this planet into a variable garden world.

-Hacivat, is the fourth planet from the Star at 1.45 AU, and the only natural garden world in the system. Water exists here in all forms, along with a strong nitrogen/oxygen rich atmosphere, it is also the only planet with a strong ozone layer. Hacivat is the last of the inner planets, and the last planet, in the system, that contains an iron core. It is also the only planet in the system to have a set of rings surrounding it.

-Kanbur, is the fifth planet in the System at 2.56 AU. It is the second largest object in the system, second only to Celaria (approx. 15,000 times the size of Hacivat). It is a hydrogen dominant gas giant, with a bluish-green tint.
