There's no real need to worry either way. US presidents are actually weak, especially domestically. If Trump could change the world by himself, why did Obama need to negotiate on Obamacare? Even if the Republicans get a massive majority in congress (which doesn't seem likely at this point) he can't do very much.

The most he could do would be invade somewhere, but Presidents are constrained by their nation's capabilities. Despite Trump's comments, he's limited by America's commitments in other places to do anything too rash. And even if he went bonkers and wanted to nuke Sweden, I don't the Generals would let him.

If you really want to worry this election, worry about the Governor elections and the state- level house and senate elections. State level governments make most of the laws in the US.

You're way too funny. Why would anyone want to leave America for a third world country? Now if Hillary gets elected that might make some sense since she will turn America into a third world country.

YES YES YES. And this, is why people who say the GOP is irrelevant because they keep losing the White House are so very wrong. It is the states who are the laboratories of democracy, especially when Congress is essentially inoperable. The Republican Party has 30+ Governors and 30+ state legislatures, and to be quite honest, in the last 6 years, GOP legislators & Governors have done a hell of a lot more than Congress has.

Democrats obsession with Presidential elections, as well as their belief of demographic destiny, is the reason why they will continue to sacrifice the states & Congress for many years to come, and why, even without the White House, the Republican Party will probably effect more lives than the Democratic Party for the next few years. I'd say the GOP has done more across the board since the 2010 midterms, since Congress has been paralyzed the whole time and the state-level GOPs have been passing all kinds of legislation.

Really, so somehow a centre-right economic policy will impoverish America to the point where it becomes a third world country, but no economic policy beside 'blame it on the Mexicans/Chinese/(insert minority here)' will not?

You know the legal definition of a "third-world county" is a country that doesn't practise capitalism or communism?

You're thinking of Poland. Besides you honestly think you'll be able to not only get the Mexicans to build your wall and then send them to Mexico once the wall is built?

If he used cheap, legal Mexican labor then there would be no need to send them back. It is not the legal immigrants that the wall is intended to stop after all. Legals aren't the problem. Illegals ARE.

To be fair, as an Argentinian, I understand these people's sentiment. I can't really fault them for being tempted by the idea of getting out of the country when faced with the possibility of having the living embodiment of /pol/ as president.

It's been over two decades since the Berlin wall fell (not to mention a couple of centuries since the Great Wall of China was beaten by a single, well-placed bribe)... and people still fantasize about walls that magically keep all them dirty foreigners from crossing your borders?

We are thinking about the same Bushes, right? George H.W. Bush and his son George W. Bush?

And Obama is worse than them? How exactly?

Obama's administration is incompetent, ham-fisted, and all that, but it is noticeably less so than his predecessor.

Aaaaaaand? It still fell, because border walls are a stupid idea born from pure simplism.

If you want to play 38th parallel with the American-Mexican border, go ahead. In the end, all you're going to get is a useless and extremely expensive pile of junk that stretches for hundreds of miles, and some slightly inconvenienced smugglers.

Wow... So, the recession is over, unemployment is dropping, the United States are no longer involved in two extremely expensive and useless wars, the deficit is shrinking, Wall Street made huge amounts of money despite Obama apparently being a socialist tyrant... yet, in your eyes, he's still worse than the guy who handed him the mother of all hot potatoes?

Well, that's kinda tragicomic.

The Berlin wall didn't collapse just because it was a wall. It endured for decades and absolutely accomplished what it was built for. If the USSR maintained a tight grip on power and the cold war political situation didn't change, there is no evidence that the Berlin wall would've fell. It would still be keeping people in to this day. Hungary's border fence with Croatia has been a resounding success at putting a stop to the lion's share of Muslim migration into their country and the Israel border walls have been successful at reducing suicide bombings. Barriers serve many useful functions when implemented correctly.
