[FORUM INFO] P2TM DEPOT

Postby P2TM » Tue Apr 29, 2014 8:46 pm

WELCOME TO THE DEPOT

WHAT IS P2TM?
This forum is for all of your non-Nationstates related roleplaying needs. We are a growing community of role players who enjoy bringing our own worlds to life or else playing in others. You can find a variety of games here which range from existing genre (Pokemon, Game of Thrones, Middle Earth, WH40K, Star Wars etc) to unique, player-generated creations. We are not, however, a place for chat-location or chill threads. These still belong in Forum 7.

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN P2TM AND F7?
P2TM
A Role Play in P2TM is defined with a goal/plot established by the OP that all players participate in. Mini, personal goals/stories/plots (be it a nation, faction, or character) are role played in conjunction to the OP's main plot. Action and consequence, cause and effect: these are the basics of a functioning RP. The end result is a Role Play flowing into a consequential story.

There is an understanding and expectation that RP threads have an OOC and IC thread (much like II or Diplomacy). The OOC thread is to organize RP material for reference, structure and setting; for players to apply therein; and a staging area for said players to pre-plan and/or clear any confusion that may arise, all under the care of the OP and Co-OP(s). Idle chatter is kept strictly in the OOC and usually pertains to the RP itself; furthermore, P2TM already has a dedicated chat thread for anything non-related. The IC thread pertains to all actions by the players and usually told in detail to establish or continue a given plot. The purpose becomes RP'ing with creativity with structure; time and dedication is taken by the OP and the player base.

Forum 7
F7 is a casual place where goofing off, joking and general chatting occur all in the same thread made by the OP. The OOC comments/chat and IC play are blurred because players tend not to take the given RP seriously, playing casually for the sake of playing, there is no structure to separate the two. If there's a goal, its generally up to the player base to take it seriously or not, 'penalties' - if any- aren't taken seriously and generally do not affect other players within. There's nothing wrong with this loose play style, it becomes a social mecca for those of the same interests and want a very relaxed and easy going forum to participate in. After all, that's what F7 was defined as.

CAN I MOVE MY ROLE PLAY TO ANOTHER SUBFORUM?
Sometimes a F7 RP becomes so large and defined that it feels as though it belongs in elsewhere: the detail and dedication some players contribute in an F7 thread may belong in P2TM. This is, for all intent and purposes, a case-by-case issue. If the OP feels as though his/her RP belongs elsewhere due to the RP structure, player dedication within it, and a goal/plot the OP believes and wishes to expand into more serious play, then perhaps it does deserve a new place to call home.

What doesn't belong in P2TM given the established community and understanding of what makes a RP?

  • Chat Location Threads and spammy chat threads that do not contribute to a RP.
  • Asterisk Play. These are usually one-liner posts which denote action by the use of asterisks. *slap* Step up your game. Asterisk play is silly and fun but it really does belong in an OOC or over in F7.
  • Lack of basic OOC and IC thread organization [A recognized standard in P2TM for the OP and players to organize and participate, respectively].
  • Multiple OOC and IC threads pertaining to the same singular franchise. NSG Senate is an example.
  • Lack of plot/goal/setting, an OP responsibility [Is there a goal/plot? Fun is inherently guaranteed whether in F7 or P2TM, so 'Fun' isn't a valid answer].
  • Blurred lines between OOC/IC relevance [OOC comments in OOC; IC action in IC, keep it relevant, keep it moving].
  • "One-Liners" post length. Many OP ask for more than one line. Some have a minimum of three lines. Others have no post length requirements. Check the OOC OP to determine if your play style fits with that game.
When in doubt, ask a P2TM Mentor.

WHAT'S A P2TM MENTOR?
P2TM Mentors function like II Mentors. We're here to help you. We aren't Moderators and our suggestions are only advice. We don't handle the Modly things. We can help you with crafting your OP, with mediating player spats, with suggestions for characters or stories, with teaching you how to RP and so on. We occasionally stop by threads to see if people need help but we usually have our own games going. If you need us, you can always find the most current list here. We are also approachable by Telegram. Some of us are better at one thing than another so you might TG one of us and find that we've passed your question along to one of our fellows (or our sole lady).

Our current P2TM Mentors are (alphabetically):

ADVICE & INFORMATION

OOCs AND THE OP
One of the most common questions newly arrived players ask Mentors regarding OOCs [Out of Character Threads]. Here are some tips:

  • Craft it to draw participants. Please spend time researching your game idea. Flesh it out before you slap it up. Players are looking for a summary of your concept, information about the world you're setting the RP in, rules, and an application.
  • Maintain it. Don't wander away and create a new game just because you're bored with your first one. Players will tend to avoid your games if you flake on them too often. Check it daily to see if there are new applications. Skim it to answer player questions, and to settle any quarrels between players.
  • No excessive bumps. Please don't spam the forum with game ideas and then bump your thread excessively. One bump per 24 hours is the standard. Your thread might not have any interest for several reasons: It might not be something people want to play; You might not have enough content in your OP to attract them; Your setting might be confusing. If you're very new to P2TM or if you've had several game fails, please stop by the Café and ask for help.
  • Mods Help! Players sometimes quarrel or disrupt threads. Mods won't "moderate" unless something is a forum rule. They'll step in if a player trolls or flames, if someone spams your thread and so on. They won't settle game disputes. The OP owns his thread. The OP has the right to ask a player to leave (ban them) from his own thread. The OP can also ask players to tone things down, to stop arguing and so on. The OP can request that his thread be locked or unlocked.
  • Mentors Help! That's what we're here for. We can help you learn how to function as an OP. We can try to help players settle game-related disputes. We're not Moderators however.

  • "One-Liners" post length. Many OP ask for more than one line. Some have a minimum of three lines. Others have no post length requirements. Check the OOC OP to determine if your play style fits with that game.

A note: the above highlighted portions contradict a NationStates Moderation Team ruling on this matter. Fundamentally, a simple lack of an OOC thread for an IC thread does not mean a thread automatically goes to F7 (there is no rule requiring them; standards vary); nor do multiple IC threads; nor does a lack of any one overarching plot (as the many faction-based roleplays stand in testament to); one-liners, as indicated in this very post, also do not default to Forum 7.

Unless defined therein by the ruling as being fit for F7, it belongs in P2TM. Player standards vary and do not default to what determines where a thread does or does not belong.

Edit: Original highlights.
