How we grew up. From bean to cup.
A short history of CuppaCoffee

CuppaCoffee was founded in Farnoa, one of Kington Langley's largest and most important cities, by Tony Atkins. An alumni of the prestigious University of Farnoa and an aspiring entrepreneur, Atkins founded the company following a bad experience in one of the country's largest coffee shop chains at the time. Vowing to focus more on customer satisfaction than on making profits he, along with a number of friends he met studying business at university, founded the first CuppaCoffee store on 18th February 1985 on the Farnoan High Street. Experiencing a brief surge in popularity, the influence of the national chains as well as customer reluctance to try something new saw the business' success begin to falter.

Despite this, Atkins and his associates boldly invested a large amount of the money they had accumulated during this short period of success into advertising and increasing public awareness of the infant brand. Instead of simply promoting certain blends and offers like their rivals who were already established within the city, CuppaCoffee aimed to focus more strategically offensive advertising such as comparing its attentive customer service to that of its complacent competitors in an effort to encourage customers to try something new. While now virtually bankrupt, the gamble paid off as the popularity of the single coffee shop soared.

Within only a year of the company's daring advertising campaign, the decision was taken to open a second store on the other side of the city. Within 5 years, CuppaCoffee boasted 10 successful locations around Farnoa. The first major milestone however occurred in 1993 when CuppaCoffee officially overtook the next largest rival to become the largest coffee shop chain in the city of Farnoa. Now with total domination over their city of origin, the company turned its sights on expanding to the rest of Kington Langley. Over the next few years, the importance of Farnoa in the country helped CuppaCoffee's reputation spread to every corner of Kington Langley in a very short space of time.

In 2000, with the opening of its 873rd store, CuppaCoffee became the largest coffee shop chain in Kington Langley. Having achieved domination in its home market, CuppaCoffee underwent a major restructuring to accommodate its new prestigious position within Kington Langley. Large sums of money were invested in refreshing the company's logo as well as the construction of a new head office complex in Farnoa. Despite not being the largest or the most financially important city in the country, CuppaCoffee decided to continue operating out of Farnoa rather than relocate to the capital of Kingsmouth as so many other companies that had found similar success had done.

Confident that the 'quantity-over-quality' business model that had plagued the Kingtonian coffee industry before CuppaCoffee's expansion was still present throughout the world, the company took the decision to open its first stores overseas in an effort to promote competition and increasing quality of service on a global scale. While an ambitious and potentially dangerous endeavour, by 2012, it had established itself in over 100 national markets around the world. Evidence of success in countries with active CuppaCoffee franchises ultimately encouraged more to come forward.

However, by 2013, the inability for CuppaCoffee to cope with the rate of the expansion of the business led to a slump in its international popularity. Administrative efficiency plummeted and the company's 5-star reputation on the international stage was threatened. This changed when CuppaCoffee invested billions into the construction of a vast new eco-friendly head office complex. Carried out by Armstrong Construction, the new head office opened in early 2015 following a development and construction phase of just under two years. Upon the completion of this massive project, CuppaCoffee's significant investment paid off as the expansion rate of its operations increased significantly throughout the year.

Today, while occasionally experiencing periods of growth and stagnation, CuppaCoffee proudly remains the worlds largest and most successful coffee company in history. With an active presence in over 400 countries, CuppaCoffee boasts one of the largest workforces in the world as well as maintaining one of the largest responsibilities to the environment. Despite this, we refuse to bow to complacency even as we eclipse all of our nearest rivals on the international stage. CuppaCoffee will always work towards the future and to innovate wherever possible. To aid in this quest we take the view that our history, while relatively short, only serves as a foundation for the future.

Head offices of CuppaCoffee, Farnoa, Kington Langley

General - CuppaCoffee is a public limited company (PLC) operating from, and under the laws of, the Grand Duchy of Kington Langley. Our head offices are located in Farnoa, a city located on the south-western coast of Kington Langley. CuppaCoffee PLC maintains secondary, international-focused offices in the Kingtonian capital of Kingsmouth. Our company maintains primary listings on the Kingsmouth Stock Exchange as well as the Yohannesische Börse.

Goals - Our company was founded from a single idea, that the quality of service and the quality of the products is paramount over all else. Many of our competitors claim a similar goal but CuppaCoffee goes to greater lengths than anyone else to make such a goal a reality. Coffee companies driven by the sole urge to make obscene profits have, sadly, made the morning coffee run something to be dreaded rather than anticipated as 'quality' is ever increasingly replaced with 'quantity'. Therefore CuppaCoffee's mission statement is simple, we want to make sitting in your local coffee shop an enjoyable, memorable and relaxing experience once again.

Administration - Unlike many of our competitors, we value the independence of our various national chains. Because of this, we function under a very decentralised system with each national chain of CuppaCoffee (over a certain case-by-case size/profitability threshold) being independently administered by 'regional offices' which are delegated much of the day-to-day powers from the head offices in Farnoa. While often a cause for serious internal administrative disruption, we are proud to incorporate such a fluid and flexible system into the governance structure of CuppaCoffee. Not only does it allow us to seamlessly incorporate all customs and cultures into our business model, it forces our rivals who have adopted a 'one size fits all' approach to constantly innovate their products and image.

Environment - With great power comes great responsibility. An overused quote that, in this case, perfectly sums up our obligations to the environment. Our wide-reaching presence consequently forces us to maintain one of the largest logistical operations of any company in the world outside of industrial/military-focused businesses. Not wanting to leave a 'dirty legacy', CuppaCoffee made an official public pledge in early 2012 to dedicate more than 30% of all after-tax profits into measures that can help reduce our carbon footprint. While we will likely never achieve carbon neutrality, in terms of goods moved, CuppaCoffee is one of the greenest companies of its kind in relation to its size anywhere in the world. Despite this monumental achievement, CuppaCoffee will always work towards strengthening these environmental commitments.

The standardised interior design employed by CuppaCoffee
as a template for many of its locations around the world.

CuppaCoffee prides itself on being a leading force for innovation when it comes to the design and layout of its coffee shops. Unlike our competitors, CuppaCoffee places much emphasis on interior design in order to make the experience for the customer as pleasant as possible. This can be achieved by ensuring our stores are as bright and 'fresh' as possible through encouraging locations to use light-coloured decor/materials/furniture. By dedicating more floor space to comfortable seating over closely-packed tables and chairs. By investing heavily in improving self-service facilities to make the order process as fast and efficient as possible for those on the go or for those who simply can't wait.

Decor - CuppaCoffee understands the need to remain modern and in-tune with the tastes of our customers. As tastes for coffees change, so does tastes in decor. As such, CuppaCoffee strives to update the decor in its stores whenever possible (and financially feasable) so to ensure we do not become irrelevant as other, more modern, coffee shops appear on the market. Alongside this we adopt the idea that if the store is bright, so are the customers. We have historically emphasised the usage of brightly-coloured furniture, paint/wallpaper and appliances in all our locations around the world. According to numerous public surveys conducted by us over the years, our assumptions appear to be correct. Out of all those surveyed, the vast majority favour the bright-approach taken by CuppaCoffee over the opposite tactics of our competitors.

Seating - Rather than a sea of tightly-packed tables and chairs, customers who use CuppaCoffee will be greeted by spread-out high-end seating that offers greater comfort and, especially for those seeking conversation over their morning beverage, a more communal atmosphere. While we accept that such an approach may have a negative impact on in-store seating capacity, this has the knock-on effect of making the CuppaCoffee experience a more relaxed and less stressful one. For those more comfortable with the basics, all CuppaCoffee locations are still equipped with standard tables and chairs seen in most other coffee shop chains.

Amenities - All of our stores are fitted with wall-mounted media devices capable of receiving high definition television channels which broadcast local and international news for the viewing pleasure of our customers. For customers requiring the usage of internet services, most CuppaCoffee locations (except those in less developed markets) offer free WiFi both in and immediately surrounding the store, the latter aimed at those seated outside. CuppaCoffee stores located in the middle of large population centres are also equipped with 'CuppaMachines', our own self-service devices that make ordering, especially in a hurry, quick and easy via a dedicated takeaway counter.

Environment - We strive to leave as little impact on the environment as possible. All CuppaCoffee locations (not located within a shopping centre/complex) are equipped with solar panels to provide the majority of electricity for lighting, appliances and heating. All tables and chairs are made from faster-growing softwood trees. To ensure that they last as long as their hardwood counterparts, all furniture made using softwood (mainly pine) materials are extensively treated before being fitted in CuppaCoffee locations. Similarly, furniture fitted in our stores is as local to their respective locations as possible in order to ensure a minimal environmental impact during the transportation process.

Our coffee is produced, processed
and transported with care.

While the customer will always be our primary concern, our relationship with our producers will always remain a close second. CuppaCoffee would not as successful as it is today without the team of specialised coffee cultivators who regularly supply us with monumental amounts of product annually from around the world to keep up with our demands. As part of our obligations to protecting the environment, CuppaCoffee refuses to centralise its coffee growing operations, instead opting to localise it as much as possible to cut down on carbon emissions generated by our global logistical operations. Chances are, if the country has at least one CuppaCoffee outlet and the climatic conditions are just right, we have at least one local supplier nearby.

Despite emphasising a close relationship with our producers, we also believe in strict regulation and scrutiny to ensure that the customer is always in safe hands. All of our producers around the world are reviewed regularly to ensure they follow our strict production guidelines. Alongside this, a small amount of product from all of our producers is sent to CuppaCoffee for quality control at the end of each coffee growing season to further ensure that the health of our customers is protected.

All of our producers are located within countries that enforce laws protecting their respective national workforces from exploitation by their employers. CuppaCoffee works extensively with a wide variety of international organisations and charities that actively seek to end exploitative labour throughout the world.

Contrary to what our name would suggest caffeinated beverages, while our most extensively-stocked single category, form a relatively small part of our total range of products. From ice cold soft drinks to tasty doughnuts, CuppaCoffee has something for everyone. Below is a complete list of our menu as it currently stands. Should new products be introduced either by CuppaCoffee directly or through upcoming deals with suppliers, this storefront menu shall be updated accordingly.
