Not sure if that changes things, but the modern maneuver is for higher speed aircraft (modern fighter jets, which are still slower than the Ventuses but must faster than WWI fighter planes).
For modern high speed planes, it's a performance piece for wowing the crowds at an air show, not a combat maneuver, at least not against an equivalent enemy.
In combat, for either version to be of utility the jet chasing you has to have inferior climb rate, or you can't use it to shake them, they just climb after you and shoot you as you lose speed (not that this would be relevant to orbit-capable fighters at all). In this case, both planes, I'm assuming, are equivalent in engine power, so mine are just going to clip along after yours and shoot them up the tail.
