(Spiritual successor to 2012 - Modern day and 2015: Winds of Change)

The first divergence of real-world time occurs in 737 AD, when the Byzantines attacked the Umayyads, who's armies were besieging East Tourkia at the time, severely weakening their empire. Later, with their strength increased from a lack of Umayyad reinforcements, they were able to hold on to Turkey and Lebanon, and last until 1994; This also caused East Tourkia to last until modern day.

In 1858, the state of Deseret surrendered to the US, but Brigham Young was allowed to remain governor of the Utah territory, and the Mormons continued to practice polygamy, leading to a greater nationalism by the 1980s.

In the 1940s Italy took the side of the Allies against Germany and Japan, and the latter joined the allied powers in 1944; The defeated Germans fled to the Balkan states and spread their ideology, eventually taking power and founding a state of their own. Brazil and Venezuela fought a war during this period.

During the cold war, Ethiopia seceded and the South African government was deposed by peaceful coup. India and Pakistan went to war and lost much of their power.

In 1991, the United Soviet Socialist Republics and the United States shattered.

The US has lost most of it's oil and much of it's other resources, as well as it's population. Soldiers went AWOL and flocked back to their homestates. All of the post-United States, along with Italy, inherited nuclear weapons, but the Republic of America has all of the launch codes, and Texas controls the only nuclear weapons assembly facility, Pantex.

The fall of the US lead to a collapse of NATO, and the Chinese economy was decimated as trade with the US was it's primary economic.

Also during the 1990s, the Mansour Caliphate arose from Egypt and conquered the middle-east, Iran, Turkestan, Afghanistan, and the Caucasian post-soviet states.

History (if fictional): Ah, the Great Byzantine Empire, instead of falling like they did in OTL, the Byzantine Empire, like a Phoenix, rose from the ashes and reinforced it's possession as a Great Power, and with the discovery of gunpowder, retook the lands to the south with it's Gunpowder armed Legions. It flourished, it's position sending vast amounts of coin to the coffers. With this coin, Byzantine funded colonies popped up in the new world. When the Americans revolted against the British, the Imperial Navy went to war in the Atlantic as the came to the Americans aid and when WW1 rocked Europe, the Byzantines fought alongside the Allies. The Depression hurt it's vast treasures however centuries of trade gave it a pillow of currency which allowed it to ride out the worst of the Depression. In WW2, encouraged with the ideas of Fascism and their great hate of Communism the Emperor sent the great legions against the allies. Pulling out when a USSR funded revolution sprung up in the east. Now, the Empire rebuilds it's legions, arming them with the finest of weapons, with their eyes set on the lands of Persia, the winds of war are beginning to blow as the Phoenix starts to call for blood.
