Only two days left folks. Though ill be university for most of the day, so im thinking about buying it on the PS4 store then letting it download whilst im there, my play station will then turn its self off when its done so it should be ready for me when i get home.

I'm glad I only have to be at school for a couple of hours. Already have it preloaded on Steam, too. Start downloading whatever I need to download before I go to bed, let it finish while I sleep, be home by ten and waste the rest of the day.

I didnt preorder it, so it wont preload for me. I dont mind if it takes a few hours, ill be sleeping anyway.

Only issue is we got new closets and bed side tables which need to be assembled, so ill doubt ill get much playtime into it tomorrow anyway.

I don't want the CGDT to get filled with FO discussion so it's going here.


I'll get up a real OP later but right now I just want to actually have a place to discuss Fallout.

So here it is.

Fallout: The Thread. Or something. Remember, please keep all spoilers firmly within clearly marked spoiler tags.


So to start off with,

Do you guys have FO4 yet? If so, how are you enjoying it? What are your thoughts on it so far?

Honestly I've put about two hours into the game so far and I am just blown away. I was already moderately hyped but really....godDAMN. It's like they took everything that made FO3's intro memorable and everything that made FNV's intro great and combined them. And those graphics. Goddamn those graphics!

Having a UI that isn't based around nested lists is cool, too - not having to open a new menu for every tiny container is nice. I'm not sure how I feel about Skills being gone but I'm far too early in the game for that to matter yet, really.

The gunplay, on the other hand, is probably the best thing about the game. Seriously. In FO3 and FNV I couldn't consider not using VATS, ever, because the gunplay was just so terrible. In FO4, however, it's honestly better than some FPSes I've played. Not a HUGE fan of VATS being bullettime instead of frozentime but I find myself using VATS less and less the more chances I get to fire my gun.

It's obvious that they're doing a little "showing off" in the beginning of the game, but honestly I'm loving it. The atmosphere is so radically different from both FO3 and FNV. Totally worth the wait.

Spoilers ahead.

The intro was framed absolutely perfectly. I loved it. I generally don't really get attached to fictional characters, and I rarely ever bat an eye on their deaths, but the SO's death scene in the intro hit me. Not that he was a particularly developed character...I didn't really care for him. It was just the way the whole scene was staged. The second the screen fades in and you realize that you have a front-seat view of him, you KNOW he's going to die. The second that those goons open up his chamber, you KNOW that they're going to kill him. The second he pulled out that gun you KNOW that he's going to pull that trigger. And yet I still lurched when I heard that gunshot. I didn't expect Bethesda was capable of painting such a scene...but goddamn did they deliver. That whole sequence, from the obviously false "Don't worry about the past, sir, you're safe now" to the moment when I read through the [DECEASED] entries in the terminal it was just...beautiful.

FO3's opening was fantastic because of its symbolism. The plot itself totally failed to deliver on that but the way that Beth laced their symbols and metaphors and foreshadowing into it was pretty damn good. When it ended you really felt like you had just watched your entire life collapse and now you were alone with no idea where the fuck to go.
FNV's opening was fantastic because of its splendor. It dumps you in a foreign land with no idea what the fuck just happened, and it makes it pretty clear that your character feels the same way. It just kinda throws you out there with a tip of the hat a weird robot. This was great because it really mirrored the rest of the game - the idea that the Courier is really just along for the ride, at least until Hoover Dam.

FO4, so far, I'm kinda getting the same vibe. When I first got out of the vault and the sun flare faded, as I watched the hawk fly past me on the sky and watched as the landscape slowly crawled into my view, I got the feeling that I had no idea what I was going to do next. FO3 plopped you near Megaton with a vague "Find your dad, there's probably some information out there!". FNV dropped you with a relatively clear goal and a very literal "They went that-a-way!" mark. With FO4's intro, I had an obvious "goal", but I, as a player (and presumably the LW as a character), had no fucking clue how I was going to go about doing that.

I then fucked up and accidentally went back into the vault. Two minutes and two loading screens later I was back outside and went on my merry way.


So far I'm at Concord. Finished the minor quest thing there, got the power armor, and am now heading back to Sanctuary I guess.

The only major bug I encountered so far was when the Deathclaw in the Concord fight glitched through the sewage enterenced and got stuck there. His head was above ground so I just punched him until he died.

Also that dog is fucking worthless.
