Metal Thread 3: Subjectivity isn't Metal

Welcome to the third installment of both the bitchinest and bitchiest place on NS. The Metal Thread. Let the album delegations and genre wars begin.

1. The only trolls I will allow here are those with a Finn prefix.
2. Let us all remember the Great Flame War of MT1, and try not to repeat it.
3. No spam. This isn't a Monty Python sketch.
4. Metal and other forms of extreme music are acceptable topics of discussion. Mainstream hard rock discussion belongs in the General Music thread.
5: Frisbeeteria's Law: No shitposting, no picspam, no chat. Follow all the other rules of the forums as well. If not, the mods will lock it for a few months and not allow a replacement. Clear enough?
6: You're not allowed to laugh at something Impaled Nazarene posts unless they say something stupid that deserves mockery based laughter.
7. Cad is not allowed to have an opinion. If he is spotted having an opinion, please report this transgression to the local authorities.

So I approve of that Moonsorrow. Damn, I've seen you guys mention them, but I never really listened to them. Yet another one to add to my list...To go through in a day :lol2:

I don't really like metal, but I like atmospheric black metal (not the Satanic stuff)/symphonic and most original heavy (Saxon, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest etc). I just would like some more reccomendations because most metal I've heard is okay and am wondering if martial-industrial-metal is a thing or if there are any bands influenced by it?

All I know is martian industrial, but I don't really know specific names. Maybe some Laibach? Not really metal, though.

Moonsorrow has been on my list for years. They are universally acclaimed as one of the best folk metal bands ever. I'm actually embarrassed that I still haven't given them a serious listen yet.

This is probably just a joke, but in case it isn't I have to point out that this is what is wrong with metalheads. The idea that you have to like harsh vocals and extreme metal or you're not a "true metalhead".

It's a No True Scotsmen if ever there was one.

Took me about a year to expand past the Big Four of Thrash. Then I became a kvlt black metal fan and I have no idea what I am now.

Kar, don't ever have a kvlt phase. It's not worth it.

I went "Eh, can't get into harsh vocals", discovered other types of metal to slowly expand my taste, and mostly did non-metal for a while, and now I like a bit of it all! That includes almost any genre of music, really.

I think that mostly expanded when I went SERIOUSLY music discovering crazy. I don't know how long it took me exactly.

But you have the benefit of the doubt, since you do not tend to get into all the silly conflicts which were so common in the previous thread. Also you have a rather broad musical interest, which is an additional bonus. Chances of you being an evolutionary dead end are slim to nonexistent.

I dunno. Hip-hop and punk are still a pretty big "Evolutionary dead end" for me.
