Computer Keyboards in Your Nation

Postby Chinese Peoples » Mon Oct 26, 2015 12:52 pm

What do your keyboards look like?

What is the predominant form of keyboard action for stationary keyboards and mobile ones?

Is there a niche market for antique keyboards?

In China, the most common 101-key US configuration is predominant with rubber dome action being most typical as of 2015. More expensive keyboards sport exotic actions, such as the Piano Action of the X3 series of CW Electronics and Machines Co., which mimics the action of piano keys, providing an exceedingly smooth and articulate feedback. Keyboards on laptop computers tend to have the scissor construction. There is a niche market for exotic and antique keyboards, whose actions are savoured.

What do your keyboards look like?

A row of function keys, and under those, a big 1 and 0 key next to each other. The 1 and 0 are arranged so that we can easily use them with our first and second fingers. Binary being the national language makes keyboard manufacturing easy.

What is the predominant form of keyboard action for stationary keyboards and mobile ones?

Mechanical keys for both, but only a couple of function keys for mobile (as opposed to a whole row for stationary). Touch screens are annoying, slow, and only good for human nations that have just developed the technology (and therefore think it's cool) - they're unheard-of here.

Is there a niche market for antique keyboards?

Yes, but most collectors are more into foreign keyboards (antique preferred, but also new) because those have so many more keys on them. The abundance of keys makes them visually interesting. It's also a great conversation starter since those outside of the collection community invariably wonder about the species that need over 100 keys to type a simple message.

Given our country's technological primitivity, we have yet to have computers, and, therefore, keyboards have not been introduced. Manuscripts and other necessary paper documents are made by hand.

What do your keyboards look like?

Since we have two main languages, the keyboards have two letters on each (Letter) key, the upper key with the standard spanish Qwerty layout, and the lower one with the Blorbian ёцeйвы layout. A small key (Usually at the top right or on the numberpad) with two lights switches between the two different keyboard types. Most people know how to type both, but are much more familiar with the spanish Qwerty layout, due to its much higher usefullness on the internet (In Kerbin, Lonapse is the main language like English, so it is used most on the internet, and it has become an official language due to its high usefullness).

And, discluding the one extra key and special keys, the keyboards themselves look identical to normal ones

What is the predominant form of keyboard action for stationary keyboards and mobile ones?
Rubber dome is most common due to its decreased price, however about 40% of stationary keyboards are mechanical. Only about 3% of mobile keyboards are mechanical.

Is there a niche market for antique keyboards?
Other than a very, very small group of people on Ebay, no, no there is not.

The QWERTY layout is the keyboard officially used in Gandoor, due to the fact that most of our populace speaks Japanese in addition to English, we use Japanese kana keyboards with the QWERTY layout here.

What do your keyboards look like? A Quantum Database does not use a keyboard, rather, it uses a solid semi-translucent holographic array that is composed entirely of Solid Light and can react to touch despite the lack of mechanical components.

What is the predominant form of keyboard action for stationary keyboards and mobile ones? Multi-touch gestures with the use of fingers.

Is there a niche market for antique keyboards? Although keyboards are incompatible with quantum databases, they are however seen as relics of the past, along with desktops and laptops.

For slaves (99% of Uncle Happy's population), computer keyboards do not type letters, only pre-approved words like "Uncle", "Happy", "is", "the", and "best". For the ruling class (1% of the population), computer keyboards are the usual QWERTY type.

It's the QWERTY keyboard, with JIS Layout Kana, and Å, Ä, and Ö keys placed in Swedish keyboard format, with the Å and Ö keys have the outdated Kana letters ゐ (ヰ, wi) and ゑ (ヱ, we), respectively (just in case such outdated letters are needed).

Some people may order a Kanji keyboard (pictured below, not for gaming) for the measly price of at least NS$40:

Being officially run by Autrael, and disputably by Terrad, most keyboards are Latin. However, a couple hundred people have constructed keyboards for the Az Biezian alphabet.

EDIT: A little after I posted this, Az Biez gained official independence from Autrael.

We use three types of keyboard in Aikoland, depending on which constituent country you're in. In Japan, we use the JIS layout, Korea uses the Dubeolsik layout, and Taiwan uses the Zhuyin layout.

All three layouts are QWERTY, as far as the Latin alphabet goes.

QWERTZ/QWERTY/AZERTY (order of preference) are all available. As German and French are minority languages in some places, we tend to use the Swiss layout (keys that combine ü/è, ö/é and ä/à) to easily write both languages. Norja minorities use some "Scandinavian" letters, but they are only 3.7 million out of the 89 that we are, so Norja keyboards don't really exist except for a small Norja company which makes high end gaming keyboards with a customizable layout for lots of money. Norja usually use some kind of reprogramming on a regular Swiss Layout.
