Everything began five years ago. Before then, humanity had just managed to win a war of annihilation, and had begun prospering under the guidance of the young, brilliant owner of a multinational technological research corporation, and the protection of the gilded master and his army of guardians. Everything seemed bright, but we were wrong, oh so very wrong. The Dragons were our friends, back then, they had helped us win the war and they had helped us recover what was lost afterwards... but one day, they disappeared. One by one, they started fading away until not a single one of them remained. Naturally, humanity questioned this. Where had all the Dragons gone? That was the question that many asked themselves, but unfortunately, they would not have to wonder for long. Before long, the answer became evident, as The Tyrant and his entourage arrived from beyond the galaxy to wreak havoc. They were Dragons, but... different Dragons. Darker. Corrupted. They cared nothing for life like their predecessors, they only wanted to rule, and rule they did. Swift like the gale, the Dragons began conquering everything in their path. Kree, Shi'ar and Skrulls were quickly crushed under their heel, subjugated. The Lanterns fought bravely, and it almost seemed like they had a chance, but it all went to hell when The Tyrant himself marched upon Oa, raining annihilation upon the world at the center of the universe. When they came to Earth, we had already heard plenty about their exploits, and many no longer had the courage to fight, but some did. The bravest was the Kryptonian, but even he fell, as one of the Dragons enveloped the world with its wings, blotting out the sun and then watching him languish, suffering from the lack of the sun. The god of thunder charged headfirst into battle, and Mjolnir's shards rained upon the planet like fire from the skies, and Asgard sealed itself off after Thor's death. The armies of the gilded master were soon to follow, Kryptonians and Sentries alike fighting for the good of Earth. They had a chance, but once again The Tyrant came, and with a wave of its almighty hand, they all burned from the inside out, and the gilded master was caught and imprisoned where he would never be able to escape, the Dragon Force Dimension. All those who attempted to fight were defeated, and Earth finally surrendered. Most of humanity was spared, but the conditions in which we live now are worse than any point in the history of our civilization. Though the overpopulation problem is solving itself, children die on the streets and food is never enough. And those of us who prepare to fight back one last time, we live in fear of being discovered and crushed too, in fear that our sacrifice will be for naught. Once upon a distant time, we lived in peace and prosperity, but now...

Now we're defenseless, in a land where dragons rule.

-Commander Greyson, Fist of the Rebellion

Where Dragons Rule

Gotham City, Earth

"General Graham, urgent news!" Called a soldier as she barged into the command room. The general looked up from his map of the world and straight at the soldier, briefly pausing to move a brown lock of hair out of the way of his good eye, so that he could see unimpeded. The 'soldier' in question was just a girl, no older than eighteen, with blonde hair and innocent blue eyes. So young, and already she had been forced to raise the azure and gold banner, the flag of the conquered world surrounded by olive leaves, a flag that had once upon a time symbolized union, and now symbolized separation, freedom from the tyranny of the Dragon Lords. The Banner of the Rebellion, the general thought, should have never been hoisted by someone so young and pure. The general, himself, was relatively young himself, especially for one who bore the same title and responsibilities that he had. At only 28 years of age, he was the Eye of the Rebellion, General Graham, the mastermind behind the entire insurrection, though in reality the command of the revolution was in the hands of a triumvirate of sorts, split more or less evenly between him and his two commanders, one of them in Europe, and the other in Asia. He also happened to be the younger of the three, and though the responsibility was technically split between the three of them, it was still quite the burden, especially for someone who was not even past 30.

But that was alright. He was not too old, but he had already had the chance to live, to love, and though that had ended in tragedy, he had been able to experience it at least. He had lived, and with that knowledge in his mind, he could fully devote himself to his duty. Though the memory of that woman haunted him from time to time still, he now lived only for the rebellion, to ensure the freedom of Earth. But this girl? She hadn't had the chance to live yet, and she might not have it ever. If the Dragons discovered them while they were not yet ready, then they would be destroyed, including her, and then she would be nothing. The worst part was that she wasn't even a soldier. She was a mutant, yes, but one with the gift of life, one who could heal the wounds of others with her power, and not one who could discharge lightning from her hands or anything of the sort. A healer, turned into a soldier by the dire circumstances of the world. Every time he gazed upon her, the general's resolve was steeled anew.

"Private Zephyr." General Graham acknowledged her presence with a stern nod. "Speak." He commanded. The girl gulped, but nodded.

"T-the rebellion cell stationed in Toronto was destroyed by a contingent of Muses." She said, and the general's brow furrowed in thought.

"It looks like things are getting dire." He stated, before looking to the side, at one of his advisors, Naja of the Inhumans, the gilded master's consort. She was not a part of his army, and so, the Dragon Lords had spared her (or more accurately, hadn't so much as glanced in her direction), but she was intelligent and level-headed, and most importantly, she knew much about the Inhumans and the golden army, a knowledge that could be a very powerful weapon in the hands of the rebellion... or would be, if they had the resources to act with it.

"Have Stark and Pym managed to recreate the Serum yet?" She asked. Naja, however, shook her head.

"The resources we have are not enough to replicate the effect. They're doing the best they can, but... progress is slow, to say the least." She stated.

General Graham nodded and clasped his hands together on the table in front of him, resting his chin on them. The situation was becoming dire, indeed. The Dragon Lords, or the ones who enforced their will on this Earth at least, were finally gaining on them, tracking them down and destroying them systematically. Toronto was just the latest in a series of raids that had ended with near-total losses for the rebellion, and that was only on his territory, though he had reasons to believe that his commanders were not faring much better. With that in mind, it was evident that the development of the Serum and certain other matters were more important than ever, but even so, no progress was being made on that front, which worried him.

"Blake. The weapons?" The general demanded of another of his advisors, a young man by the name of Stanley, and an accomplished magician.

"Thomsen and I have been working like crazy for the past few months, but you know that there's no way that production will ever be enough to fit our needs, boss." The man stated, and the general knew it was true. The special weapons that the scientists and magicians of the rebellion were developing in tandem were the only weapons in perhaps all of Earth capable of piercing the black carapaces of the Muses and Banshees that enforced the will of the Dragon Lords throughout the universe, but there were far too few, and fewer were being produced to replace those lost in battle.

"How fare the shipments, then?" The general asked once again.

"S-sir, there are no news about something happen to the shipments. No news is good news, right?" The blonde girl from before stated. Naja nodded.

"Yeah, it means some of the weapons are still making it to Paris and Japan, but poor Otis is going to die if we keep overworking him." She commented.

"So what's the plan?" Blake inquired.

"The same as before." The general stated calmly. "Continue development of the Serum. Continue production and distribution of the weapons. Have Commander Grimm seek possible alliances with any surviving extrasolar governments. Resist until Commander Greyson gathers all the fragments of Mjolnir. Capture and adapt Enforcer equipment if at all possible." He recounted slowly. "The situation may seem more dire than it was yesterday, but our situation has always been dire, and the plan has not changed, because it is the only plan we have." He said, before rising.

"Now, if you'll all excuse me, I have to plan." He looked at each of the three people in the room meaningfully. "Dismissed."

Mireshar, Shamra

There was nothing left in that place that could accurately be called a city, much less the proud city of Mireshar, capital city of Shamra, proud world of some of the most powerful magicians in the universe. Nothing remained, not even the ashes of the city that had once been full of beautiful marble spirals and ivory towers that reached the sky itself, and where the abandoned castle of the White King had once stood, now there was only an enormous mound of bodies, a burning funeral pyre to those who paid the ultimate price for their freedom and achieved nothing but their own death and the death of their home. The Nine Elemental Monarchs of Shamra, the mighty Shattar, wielders of the Elemental Aspects, had all been defeated by the army of Banshees that had marched upon the capital, and though they could not be killed off without the ancient Curse of Soul Suppression, they all had been imprisoned inside the Dragon Force Dimension nonetheless, from where they would never be able to escape from the power of the Dragon Lords, and after they had been defeated and taken captive, the Muses of the Dragon Lords had arrived after the Banshees left, and with their songs they had weaved spells of infinite destruction, and the white fire of the Muses rained down upon the city of Mereshar, first burning their fields and their people and reducing everything to rubble, and then consuming the rubble and corpses and ash. And the precious Shattar were nowhere, unable to save their people.

Once there was truly nothing left in the place called Mereshar except the giant scorch mark that betrayed the location where the proud city had once stood erect, the Muses that stood before the ruin ceased their singing, and no more white fire descended like meteorites falling from the sky. At that moment, one of the Muses, the one in the lead, left the formation, heading off while the others remained perfectly still, not moving an inch as they waited.

Muses, much like Banshees, were equipped with special armor. In fact, Muses had the exact same outfit as Banshees, and they even belonged to the same species, a race created a long time ago by one of the World-Dragons that belonged to the previous generation, one of the Dragons who had disappeared with the rest years ago. The species itself had a name, but it had been purposefully forgotten by the dark Dragon Lords, who had enslaved them and turned them into their Enforcers after their progenitor had abandoned them. There were, in theory, several differences between the Muses and the Banshees: the former were able to achieve a myriad of effects by singing, which was the method through which they casted their spells, spells that ranged from the relatively useful to the completely apocalyptic, especially when several Muses joined forces in order to achieve an exponentially greater effect; the latter, meanwhile, acted quite differently, as they had instead mastered the art of roaring and of using their claws to tear apart their enemies, and they used their abilities to kill anyone who opposed their masters and reduce anything to rubble. However, in practice, there was little interest in the story behind their abilities. The only thing that mattered was that Muses were better at destroying and Banshees were better at fighting, and so, they were assigned roles according to this simple distinction. In essence, the Dragon Lords used the Banshees as machine guns, and the Muses as missiles, in terms of primitive Earth weapons.

The Muse that had parted ways from the rest was identical to the others in most regards. Clearly, she was different physically, as not every Muse had crimson eyes staring from beneath the helmet, or a pink braid poking out from behind, and there were certainly few Muses who had a pair of wings like she did. She was also far more skilled in the weaving of spells of destruction than most of the other Muses, and it was for this reason that she had been appointed as the leader of her contingent, the one who had the orchestra baton, in the words of one of her superiors. She cared little for such honors, and simply dedicated herself to serving the Dragon Lords to the best of her ability, like she had always done, ever since she could remember. It was thus that she walked towards her superiors, the black material of her armor glinting under the Shamran sun. The Muse leader was clad in full black armor, a menacing outfit which covered her torso and legs, as her arms were well shielded by her own natural scales. She wore a helmet made of the same material as her armor, in the shape of a dragon, and her claws had long since been removed and replaced with unnatural copies. For one who knew what all of this was, it would be clear why the Enforcers were so feared throughout the Universe: their armor was made of the scales of the Dragon Lords, and their claws were made of the fangs of the Dragon Lords as well. Few things could pierce their armor, and few things could resist their stab.

The Muse leader finally stopped before a pair of figures. One of them was one of the mercenaries in the employ of one of the Dragon Lords, an infamous wielder of a powerful cosmic blade that had made him quite notorious, which was why the Dragon Lords preferred to buy his loyalty instead of crushing him. The other figure, though perhaps slightly less imposing, was much more fear-inspiring to anyone anywhere in the universe, for though he seemed to bear no weapons or armor of any sort, he was a part of the scourge that had plunged the universe into sempiternal darkness.

"There are no survivors left. The city of Mereshar is no more." The Muse leader stated with a voice that was nearly emotionless, her eyes never meeting his.

"Ah, very well, very well! Thank you, Muse Wynn. You and the others may leave." Spoke Mirennú, one of the eleven Dragon Lords that ruled under the Tyrant. The Muse leader Kirisvala bowed and then left to address her underlings and inform them that their mission in Shamra was over.

Mirennú turned back to the mercenary he was speaking with. "Now, as I was saying before we were interrupted, Manifest, I called you here to check on your progress. I fully believe in your capabilities, but the others are not quite so confident in your ability to perform the job we request of you, and so, they demand that I monitor you closely. For now, tell me; how have you fared in accomplishing your current mission?" The Golden Dragon Lord asked.

Tyrannia, Maw of the King

The eleven Dragon Lords of Dark Creation were gathered on a table with their master, feasting as they spoke of their affairs around the universe.

"How fare we against Apokolips and New Genesis?" One of them asked.

"Despite the fact that Darkseid and the New Gods butt heads practically constantly, they seem more than capable of putting their differences aside whenever our Enforcers launch an attack. I believe that one of us will have to head over and crush them for good if we want to make any progress in their sector." Another one commented while devouring a rather tasty-looking piece of meat.

"There is also the matter of Asgard. We have not yet managed to pierce their defenses; they are far too sly for their own good, for a civilization that prides itself on their warlike demeanor. Clearly they are terrified of what we did to their little God of Thunder." Another spoke.

Conversations about such topics went on as usual, until everyone heard a low chuckle coming from the head of the table.

"Please, you all worry too much about such nonesense." Spoke a voice, more childlike than the others, and yet, all the more sinister for it. "Should we truly be worried about a pair of rebellious rocks and a bunch of cowardly blondes with horned helmets? Us? Beings so powerful that empires yield at the sole mention of our name?" The voice continued. "NONESENSE!" He spoke, suddenly slamming his fist into the table, before calming down, a sweet smile regarding the eleven Dragon Lords who had been utterly terrified at the prospect of unleashing that creature's wrath.

"The truth, my brothers and sisters, is one." Spoke The Tyrant, the Dragon whose name was not.

"We rule!" And The Tyrant laughed a bellowing laughter, and all of Tyrannia rumbled, for the world itself laughed with him.

Dark God Saga
Part Eleven: Endgame Pt.3: The Battle to End All Battles
Or Lord Satera's Retribution

As the two armies exchanged blows with each other, Lord Satera ascended to the skies before he crashed down to the surface, joining Asumar and Kazuko in beating back the forces of darkness that threatened their home, the Galaxy that they inhabited, it was the place that they grew attached to, and they would be damned if they would let their home fall to the agents of Darkness. Satera slid to his knees, narrowly avoiding a sword that one of the Daemons attempted to slice him with. Satera turned to the Daemon that tried to hit him, he then delivered a kick to it's chin and causing it to be sent flying up into the sky, but not before his eyes let out a pulsation of energy which was now silver, the planet of Rhen Var proceeded to rumble violently before large boulders from the planet crashed into the Daemon, Satera managed to turn the Demon into a center of gravity, which quite literally tore large chunks of the planet apart and crashed into the Demon, eventually, and quickly making a massive planetoid that hung ominously atop the Army of Darkness. Satera then quickly glanced towards another Demon, his glance quickly possessing said Demon into his servitude, issuing only one order to it "Destroy the Guilty." Which forced the Demon to turn on his allies and start attacking relentlessly, he turned his head to Asumar "Do it."

Asumar grinned, his body being covered by a Crimson Aura, which quickly built itself up into his signature construct of armor But this time, a pair of wings grew on it's back, allowing the hulking piece of armor to take flight and strike from above, but this time, Asumar had his eyes set at the massive planetoid that hovered above the battlefield. Asumar's armor construct took to the skies, two longswords spawning on either of it's hands as it approached the planetoid "Now..." Reaching the peak of the planetoid with almost no resistance "It's you're turn now Kazuko!" Asumar exclaimed through Telepathy, planting the two swords into the planetoid, causing an internal explosion of energy to shatter the planetoid into nothing but large boulders that now began to fall to the planet unhindered "Kazuko! Do It now!"

"I know Asumar, I'm ready for it!" Kazuko exclaimed, slamming his palms into the ground and let out a large yell, pouring his energy into the permafrost of Rhen Var, the plant life that existed underneath the planet began to come back to life, stronger than ever before! A large thick root shot out of the ground beneath of the Former Grand Warlord, allowing him to take flight into the sky. However, followed by this single thick root, a mass of roots, and branches shot out of the ground and soared up into the sky, grabbing hold of whatever piece of falling debris they could get from the planet "For the Galaxy!" Kazuko exclaimed, who proceeded to unleash a series of energy-based bombardment upon the Demons below, being assisted by fellow Alpha-Omega Corpsmen who took on the Demons that were at close range. Kazuko jumped off of the branch and proceeded to freefall alongside the still falling boulders, while at the same time he fought against the Demons that waited for his arrival to the ground "I'm proud to call this Galaxy my home, I won't let you let it fall into darkness!" Kazuko then gave the go-ahead to Ryuichi "Show us your power Ryuichi, I'm sure that you're father would like to see how far you've gotten."

"Right!" Ryuichi exclaimed with happiness, using the speed force to run towards the epicenter of where the boulders were to fall, he then began to run in a circular motion, gathering the wind in the center of his running circuit "Just, a little more..." Ryuichi stated, the air that gathered in the center of his circuit began to twist and turn alongside him, forming what seemed to be a vortex of massive proportions, which sucked the lesser demons into the vortex alongside the boulders that Kazuko threw his way, the vortex began to crackle with lightning that seemed to speed up Ryuichi's speed to levels that even his father believed that all he saw was a blur. As soon as the vortex could self-sustain itself, Ryuichi's hair ignited into a burning mass that indicated the activation of his Firestorm Matrix, he then rose up into the epicenter of the vortex, the lesser demons that were trapped within had finally managed to correct themselves and balance themselves in the vortex, but they were forced to avoid the rapidly whirling and flaming boulders that were active obstacles in their way, Ryuichi spent his time within the vortex by throwing the lesser demons out of it's mighty eye of destruction, using his telekinetic powers, Ryuichi called forward all of the boulders that were within the vortex to him and then threw them in all directions.

Satera turned his head towards the flaming rocks that seemed to streak through the skies as comets, which crashed into the ground with great force and crushed multiple demons who stood in the way of the Dark Gods "Very Good Ryuichi, but now..." Satera held his fingers out, with each of them pointed at certain Arch-Demons that served as the primary protectors of the Dark Gods, and thus a nuisance that had to get rid of "It's my turn once more!" Red Beams fired forth from his fingertips and eyes, this power being the personal power of Darkseid's Omega Force, now Satera was calling forth the powers of other Cosmic Sources to destroy his enemies, yet again, Satera could have simply willed these beings out of existence, but he always was one who preferred to combat his enemies and take them down rather than outright will them out of existence, so he compromised with using the Omega Force as an alternative to willing them out of existence, no matter where the Arch-Demons went, they would always be pursued by the Omega Beams to no end. As the Omega Beams simply fried and disintegrated the Arch-Demons, Satera turned his attention to the energy signatures of the Dark Gods, who were now making their way towards the fight, the final enemy that would have to be defeated before the war came to an end "They know that this is the final battle, seems that they desire to end it quickly, no doubt about that, considering I'm the one who will end this once and for all!"

For now, tell me; how have you fared in accomplishing your current mission?" The Golden Dragon Lord asked.

Manifest stood steady before the gaze of the Dragon Lord. Long ago, during the infamous Builders' War, Manifest had fought on the side of Life and became renown as among the most powerful and most virtuous mortals in the known Universe. After the war, he had gained two now infamous boons- The blade Infinite and a vial of Dragon's Blood. It was not long after the war that he found his way to the ancient ruins, known of by few and feared by all of those who did. When Manifest arrived at the Throne of the Universe, ancient and vile secrets were revealed to him. For three months, he was dead to the world- His allies searched for him in vain, for even those who discovered the Throne could not find their way inside.

When the Tyrant made himself known, Manifest emerged once more. At his side, Infinite was scorched and blackened, and an empty vial rested in his breast pocket. More importantly, a Cheshire grin was on his face, and the gem in the hilt of the Manifest Blade was in far fewer pieces than before. Its power was unlocked, and with it, its rage and drive to conquer. The Dragons may not have been around during the Blade's reign of terror, but nevertheless they could sense the power in the Blade. He became their mercenary, and to prove himself loyal to them and not his former allies, the Hero of the Manifest Blade lead the charge against the Kree.

"Let the Universe remember my name." The Dragons alone could hear him mutter as he plunged the Manifest Blade into the heart of Ronan the Accuser. "I am Manifest. And you... Are nothing." His eyes were cold- Nay, they were laughing- in the death of his onetime friend.

Now, he stood before a World Dragon once more. "My subjugation of the Negative Zone proceeds as planned. Annihilus has surrendered. His fate is in your hands- Do I end the fool's life?" The World Dragons had many of the shards of the Cosmic Sphere. Manifest worked as a mercenary in exchange for periodically receiving one. In exchange for the defeat of Annihilus, he had been promised the shard he had given Hadrimmelis a lifetime ago.

With his ability to manipulate friction on himself, he slow his descent so he wouldn't cut himself on the blade. "See? I'm doing much better this time! You'll have to let me know how good I am. Even though I really don't expect to win." This was more of a personal test. He wanted to see how his combat skills stacked up in the event he had to use them. He was a member of the Inhuman Royal Guard. So he obviously had to stay ready even if he didn't like it.

Otis succeeded in landing on the sword, and as he kicked, she covered her face with the shield once more, dropping the sword. "You are doing better than some," she commented, throwing the shield at him, which transformed into two swords mid-flight. Deciding to go on the aggressive to test him, she leaped high into the air, preparing to bring her fist down upon him.

Cora asked, genuinely befuddled and not understanding the reference. Then Katie said that they were in Asgard and Cora's eyes widened in shock. "You mean the realm of the Norse Gods? What are we doing here?" Cora asked in shock before a well armed woman and several others approached to apparently ask the same question. They confirmed that they were in Asgard, and the woman said that they were Valkyries whose job it was to protect Asgard. "We didn't come here by our own will at all." Cora said to the female Valkyrie as calmly as she could. "We were in New York City and suddenly this bright light swallowed us up, and brought us here. We don't know who was behind it or why they did it." Cora said truthfully, putting her arm around Katie as if to try to keep her safe.

"Very well," said Sif, lowering her sword. "But you shall be staying here until the All-Mother says otherwise. She is correctly in communion with another. However, you are not prisoners, but guests. And never let it be said that Asgardians do not treat Midgardians well. Come, and we shall feast and tell tales of battle while we wait!" she said, sheathing her sword and beckoning Katie and Cora to join her and the Valkyries in the dining halls, where there was food and drink and song aplenty.

"What is it with you and throwing things that turn into other things?" He said and flicked his tail up, Mjolnir launching him into the air to avoid getting sliced by the swords. "Better than some isn't bad." Valka was closing in fast and it would hurt unless he did something quick. So he flipped back, shooting Mjolnir at Valka via his tail, grabbing it, and then standing on the head of the hammer. At the very last second, he attempted to jump over Valka and latch onto the nearest wall with the hammer still aimed at her.

Keeping one hand on her sword sheath, Myosai summoned a fuchsia-colored sphere of ki, holding it out in front of her face as she frowned. Glacia's energy signature was warping in and out, hard for her to find an exact location of where she was.

Squinting, Myosai tossed the sphere of Energy at a mass of shadows in a corner, watching as the sphere split up into several smaller fragments, lighting up the area like some sort of fireworks as tiny explosions and flashes of light peppered the corner of the room.

Lucky shot. Glacia was there like a coward, she could just tell. Not exactly sure if she was there, but this close up? She was pretty solid this was her.

Her sword drew from her sheath and she charged, shouting a battle cry as she rushed into the shadows.

The thing about battle cries, they let your opponent know your attacking.

Taking advantage of this, Glacia dodged the blow. Then she decided to test something. She swiftly reduced the temperature of the area sharply and then created a very strong vacuum to trap the pink demon there. Though it likely wouldn’t hold for long, it would hold long enough for the cold to take an effect and hopefully cause her limbs to stiffen and freeze. With any luck, she’ll be able to focus mostly on Hiroshi.

Hiroshi:

Breathing steadily, Hiroshi felt out his surroundings, getting hazy visions of Myosai and Glacia moving around. As much as he hated to admit it, he was good at sensing ki, but not finding the exact location of enemies. Usually the enemies he faced weren't hiding from him, they wanted him to find them. Sighing, he raised his power, golden fire lighting up the area around him.

Blitzing forward, Hiroshi phased from sight as quickly as he appeared, the burning gold aura the only visible part of him. Snapping his foot out, he swung hard into Glacia's side, a burning boot of ki discharging from his hand as his momentum carried him around, his palm open and face level at his Acrosian companion.

Zarkenis Ultima wrote:Where Dragons Rule

"We're all going to die." The Runner sighed, laying his head down on the maps in front of him. "We're all going to die, and there isn't a damn thing we can do about it."
"Boxer-" His lieutenant began.
"Don't call me that!" The Runner scowled, lashing out. "I lost the right to use that name a long time ago. The Commissioner died because of me, Gordon died because of me, Reclaimer is MIA, and I woke up under the corpse of the god damn Batgirl." He sighed, looking down at the maps once more. "Boxer is dead. The Runner is all that's left."
An awkward silence filled the room before the Runner leaned back in his chair. "Fine. Status report."
The lieutenant nodded. "Good news or bad news?"
"Good news."
"The GCD cells have finished organizing. After Bludhaven was destroyed by Chemo, Nightwing relocated to Gotham North. He just contacted our North cell and is training them."
"Bad news?"
"No word from South in three weeks. We can only assume the worst. The Rebellion is gaining ground lately, and word around is that West and Central are thinking of joining up."
The Runner sighed. "Dammit. They've got good ideas- But the bigger we get, the more likely that they're going to notice us. We can't afford to-"
The lieutenant interrupted him. "We can't afford not to. We lost our WayneTech partners with South, and membership is draining. We have another month until the GCD are done for."
The Runner turned around, staring out the window of the Ace Chemicals building, headquarters of the Gotham City Defenders. He closed his eyes and breathed deeply before putting hand to his temple. "Get me someone from the Rebellion. Tell them I.. I'm willing to consider the deal. But if my men die because of this, they better hope they die with them." He growled.
The lieutenant nodded, motioning towards a man outside. The two each pulled out a key, unlocking the manager's safe of the abandoned building. Inside was a single cell phone with the phone number of a Rebellion officer.

The Runner continued staring out the window at the ruined city. Suddenly, in his mind's eye, it flashed back five years.

Gotham City. Noon. The day after the fall of Batman.
"Batgirl?" Boxer stared in awe.
"In the flesh. Nightwing sent me with a message. The GCPD need to lay low until the League and the Avengers get things handled. We already have word that the Asgardians are contacted and Manifest's beacon has been activated, wherever he is." She began to turn around and leave.
"No." He replied coldly, stopping her in her tracks. "Batman is dead. Us lying down and giving up won't change that. This is Gotham. You can't kill the Batman and get away with it."
The two stared each other down for a moment before Commissioner Gordon, head of the GCPD, walked into the room. "Batgirl?"
She turned stiffly towards the new arrival. "Get your man under control, Gordon. Lie low, get down, and-"

An explosion at the front of the GCPD complex interrupted the three of them. All three paused for a moment, turning towards the noise before breaking out into a run. Boxer was the first to arrive, followed by Batgirl and then Gordon. The three found a being with a strange armour that they would eventually find was called a Muse.

There was so much death that day.

The Void crashed into Ultron, throwing the two of them across New York. Ultron, the Deceiver. Ultron, who locked me away. Ultron, who-! Sol had one choice to dodge the oncoming vortex. quickly he unfroze his back and fired out his central core of Solarium, hoping it would hit the sun eventually and cause him to reform. as he slipped into nothingness Sol looked at the sunless universe beyond and smiled, hoping that the solarium shell he had just made would explode into a nebula in absence of the sun, hopefully giving that universe a second chance, albeit destroying everything they currently have.

Antibios walked out of the dust filled streets of New York, his body glowing with golden light. he had taken Thor's cape and made it into a makeshift hooded cloak. walking forward Antibios stepped into the ruins of the united nations watching Ultramar dispatch the last world leader. Noticing the return of the metallic bringer of death Superwoman yelled "Look who is back!" and flew straight for Antibios clearly aiming to rip out his core. Salis sat down in his orange jumpsuit with a heavy sigh as he waited for whoever wanted to see him. After being apprehended by Walker at the construction site, he had quickly been cuffed, shackled, and knocked unconscious by the ARGUS operatives. Due to his training they had to do so six more times over the course of their trip to the prison, almost losing him at one point. Eventually the managed to get him into the prison though and led him to his cell. The room that made it was fairly simple. It's circular walls were made of bullet proof glass and the ceiling and floor were some sort of metal. The entire room was suspended so that if he somehow managed to break the glass, it would immediately be dropped into an electrical field that would send enough volts into his body to kill him ten times over. An extendable bridge could be used to extend the gap between the side of the cell to a doorway on the outer wall. Guards were watching at all times and through cameras around the facility. This was where he had stayed for the past few weeks, awaiting the arrival of a very particular person. During his tenure he had managed to get out of his cell once during a power outage, but had been quickly apprehended when backup power had kicked in, nullifying his powers. After that particular incident they had replaced his old wooden chair and table with metal ones that were bolted to the floor after he'd broken both by smashing them repeatedly into several guards who had taken a affinity to mocking him. Since then he only had to glare in any guard's direction to make them scurry like rats.

Now he found himself waiting in a new room. He was surprised they had let him out of his cell even once after his escape attempt, though it was clear that they weren't unprepared. Nothing was pulled though and now he sat on one side of a metal table not to different from the one in his cell. After waiting for a few minutes a door opened across the room and a man in a suit walked in and placed a briefcase on the table.

"I'd like to speak alone with my client," said the man curtly, dismissing the guards in the room. After they had left the man's facade broke and he collapsed into his seat with a sigh. "I don't know how you did it, but you did. A visit from a lawyer in a classified ARGUS facility? I wouldn't have even gone for it if you hadn't left so much money behind in case of this."

"ARGUS took a lot of heat form their little Craig Thomsen incident. Some groups are still simmering even and now the higher ups have Ms. Walker on a tight leash. Any more slip ups and things could get real messy real fast again and no one here wants that. You're sure no one is watching?"

The man nodded over to the corner of the room, where there was clear evidence that a camera had once been mounted there. "You were right about them being on a leash. I've managed to guarantee full humane treatment for you. No torture, no experiments, and no sedation. As long as you don't get too wild we can keep your situation where it is, and maybe improve it, until the trial. You said you had a solution to that too?" inquired the man.

"Good, good," said Salis as he nodded thoughtfully, "and yes I have a way to keep the trial for happening for a long while. You see, my parents left me as a newborn. No name, no birth certificate, nothing. As far as I know there might not be one either, and I can prove any sort of alias they try to use to start the trial is forged. In essence they don't have anyone to convict. I technically don't exist and until they work around that that trial won't happen."

The lawyer grinned as he heard this. "And we can use your story to score sympathy points if the trial does happen. Damn you thought this out. The way this is going we actually have a shot at getting you out of here." At this point the guards started to come back into the room. "It seems we're out of time. Keep me posted if you come up with something else. I'll make sure they let you contact me for further meetings." With that, the two men shook hands and Salis was escorted back to his cell. Sitting down on the floor in the center of it, he mediated as Ra's had taught him. This time though, there was something different about him. His posture was straighter, his manner more focused, and if you looked closely enough, you could almost see a smile on his lips.

THE DEFENDERS SAGA
Part Two: The Spider

"Nno…Uncle Ben…"

A dark living room, the only light a flickering television set.

"No-don't-Aunt May, no…"

The off-white carpet, once stained brownish by Uncle Ben's cigars, now crimson with Uncle Ben's blood…

"Don't-you can't-wake them up-"

And Aunt May's…

"WHO DID THIS?"

Men in blue, dragging me away, saying soft words, trying to fix things…

Peter jerked upward abruptly, his forehead smacking into the top bunk, sending him back to sleep.

There's a rumor that orphanages are terrible places, where children are given everything besides love. That might be true for some, but at the Children's Home of Saint Peter the Sinner, the sisters were every bit as loving to their substitute children as real mother were to their real children.

But Peter Parker didn't care. As far as he was concerned, the Sisters didn't care, didn't love them, no matter how much they did. He ate his food, he went to church, and he prayed. Not for new parents to adopt him, but for God to give him his aunt and uncle back.

And one day, the day he dreaded, God gave him exactly what he didn't want. Sister Annie came into the main rec room, beaming her face off. She tottered over to Peter, and with a crook of her finger, beckoned him to follow her. With some reluctance, Peter stood. He knew that Sister Annie only came into the rec room for one reason, and he hated it, hated that it wasn't going to be his aunt and uncle standing in Father Cronin's office, but some stranger. But he followed her anyway.

Sister Annie knocked on the grey steel door opposite the entrance to the rec room. "Come in, come in!" called a voice from within, and Sister Annie swung the door open, gleefully beckoning Peter in.

He entered, shuffling his feet, not looking up. He'd done this, he would look dejected and the prospective parents would be weirded out by his despondency, and they'd find another kid to steal. So with dragging feet and a downturned gaze, Peter found the overstuffed leather seat, and plopped himself in it.

"Hello, Peter. Don't bother with your depressed act, I've already told Doctor Banner all about it, and he's not scared." Father Cronin ordered. It was a kind order, in a gentle tone, but unmistakably an order, and Peter obeyed, raising his eyes.

"Doctor…Banner?" he asked, a slight edge of wonderment to his voice. "The Doctor Banner?"

"Yep." said the other man, the man Peter hadn't noticed yet. He was wearing a collared shirt and black slacks, his hair was a curly bedhead mess, and his eyes were slightly glazed over, probably from lack of sleep. "The Doctor Bruce David Banner. Inventor of all that fun stuff. I assume you've heard of me?"

"Yes!" Peter practically shouted, leaping from his seat. "You're my hero! Your research…it's amazing!"

Banner grinned and turned to Father Cronin. "How old did you say he was?"

"Eleven," Cronin responded, with a matching smile, "but the Good Lord gave him the brains of a man."

"Good. Now Pete," Banner said, coming to crouch beside Peter's chair, "I've never been a father. But, it seems a grand adventure, and I want to try it." Banner straightened, popping his back, and held out his hand to Peter, "So what do ya think? Do you want to try being my son, and I'll try being your father?"

"Of course!" Peter yelled, jumping up and embracing Banner. "Of course I will, do you even need to ask?"

"Excellent!" Father Cronin laughed. "Let me get the paperwork before you run away, though, Peter."

Peter decided that Banner's car was pretty sweet. Soft leather seats, fancy lights that Peter didn't understand, and a shiny, beetle-green exterior. And of course, Banner-no, not Banner, Bruce-was there.

The whole way to-well, wherever the heck Bruce was taking him, Peter jabbered his new dad's ear off. Sports, other kids, the sisters, science-especially science-whatever crossed his mind, Peter talked about. Bruce bore it with an oxenlike patience, and whenever Peter drew breath, he responded, laughing and joking, until they came out of a crowded street, and they saw it.

Bruce briefly shushed Peter as they pulled into the parking garage of the massive building. As he got out, opened Peter's door, and grabbed his bags, Bruce turned to his son.

"Peter…welcome home."

Peter, gazing around, openmouthed, was just cognizant enough to snark, "So, I live in a parkage?"

Bruce shot a quizzical look at Peter. "Parkage?"

"Father Cronin is Canadian."

"Oh." Bruce gestured with his free hand, and started walking, Peter right behind him. "No, you won't be living in a parking garage. You'll be with me, in the top-floor penthouse of this building-the Baxter Building, named because we got funding to build it from President Evan Baxter, a few years back. I live here," he continued, as they stepped onto an elevator, "and so do a few others. We're scientists, see? Working on a big project."

Then, a warm female voice spoke. "Floor Twenty-Three. Welcome home, Doctor Banner." The doors dinged opened, and Peter about fainted, again. Poor kid.

The floor was a wide, open space. Tables and benches were scattered randomly about, covered in papers, books, beakers, test tubes, and computers, plus strange-looking bits of machinery that Peter couldn't understand.

And the people, who with some reluctance tore themselves from their science-y things, and came over as Bruce and Peter came out of the elevator.

The first one was a short, stocky man. His hair was black, with flecks of grey, and he had a short grey goatee. He had dark eyes, and wore a black t-shirt and cargo shorts.

The second was another man, tall and slim, his head bare, his attire as simple as that of his companion. He carried himself with a quiet confidence, and for whatever reason his feet were as bare as he head.

The third was a woman. She had jaw-length hair, and a Latin complexion. She wore a red shirt, short black shorts, and an electric wheelchair.

"So Bruce!" the first man said, smiling slightly. "Is this that kid you told us about? The, ah-what was it, Vic?"

"The super-genius kid," the second man replied, his voice heavily accented, somewhere between Russian, German, and Swedish. "The only one who could work Doctor Doom's world-saver."

"Shh!" the woman hissed, batting at Vic's arm. "You'll scare him!"

"You're all probably scaring him, guys. Give the guy some room, let 'im breathe. Peter?"

"Yeah, Bruce?" Peter squeaked, his voice high from excitement.

"I want you to meet some people. First, Ben Grimm." Bruce said, gesturing at the first man, who gave Peter a small nod of acknowledgement.

"Then, Victor von Doom, lead scientific mind of Latveria."

Victor stepped forward and gave Peter a massive, bone-grinding, friendly handshake. "How are you doing, Pete? Welcome to the Building."

"Glad to be here, Mister von Doom."

"And finally, Tanya Stark."

Unlike the men, Tanya wasn't content with a simple shake or nod. She directed her chair over, and gave Peter a massive hug.

"Hey, kiddo. I guess I'm your Aunt Tanya."

Peter, after a moment, returned the hug, his eyes glistening with tears. "Hey, aun-aunt- Aunt Tanya."

Then, the hug broke, and Peter was just standing there. Bruce turned to his son, and told him, "All right, Pete. Get your stuff into our room. Aunt Tayna'll show ya."

And as Peter and Tayna went off, he could still hear the scientists behind him.

"…don't want a repeat of Rogers, do we?"

"No, no-Vic, have you made progress with the spiders?"

"Some. But they keep trying to bite me."

"Well, don't let 'em bite my kid, okay?"

After having given all of her gifts, Hadrimmelis was pleasantly surprised to see that her fellow heroes had decided to honor that tradition as well, and received the gifts from both Craig and Valka with grace and gratitude. The Orb of Cognition that she received, while perhaps not too helpful immediately, was certainly an interesting gift, which could definitely turn out to be useful in the future, not to mention that she did indeed feel curious enough to learn more about the culture of the humans; naturally, in her awakened form, it would have been the simplest of matters to simply dig into the collective psyche of all humanity to learn more about them, but there was no fun in that approach, and she felt that it would be more exciting and stimulating to learn little by little, exploring their culture directly instead of receiving it already digested by the mind of some mortal. With that in mind, she smiled at Craig, appreciating the gift, as well as his promise to watch out for the Hadrians that had migrated to Earth after the war.

Valka's gifts were quite interesting as well. Though the flame of the sword was not too helpful to her, as even though she was the Black Dragon her most powerful element was that of light, the other functions of the blade she appreciated more, as she knew that she could always count on Valka's assistance, no matter what the endeavor. The blade itself was also an exquisite work of art, a masterpiece by part of one of Asgard's greatest forgers, and certainly a worthy gift for anyone, including someone like her. The two casks that were given to her she was quite curious about, but felt that it would be best to wait until later before opening them and trying out their contents. She had no reason to doubt Valka's words, but either way, it would be more convenient to indulge in such things once she found a more comfortable location. For the time being, she stored them in the Dragon Force Dimension and thanked Valka.

It was around that time that the one who looked like a spider arrived, asking for help from the heroes of the Builder War. Hadrimmelis saw that Manifest was more than ready to go and assist his friends, and she felt that perhaps she could at least earn some rapport with humanity on behalf of the Hadrians, her people, but figured that she would ask first.

"It would certainly be a good opportunity to test out this new blade of mine." She commented, smiling towards Valka who was already leaving, heading back to Asgard. "But I was under the impression that humans preferred to sort out their matters by themselves. If you, however, really require my assistance, then I will gladly give it." She stated.

However, rather than mention how he seemed very distressed, or ask him what was wrong, Kirisvala simply offered him a smile full of kindness, her bony tail poking out from under the seat and gently caressing his leg as if to reassure him. "It's okay, Mars, don't worry." The kind-hearted Hadrian spoke, feeling now that they were two kindred spirits on account of what both of them had seemingly been through. "You're not alone anymore." She said, reaching out towards him with one of her claws, as if to grab his hand and squeeze it to further reassure him and make him feel better, but before she did so, she did a double take, first looking at her dangerous claw and then at Mars' fragile human body, and her smile seemed to die down a little bit as she quickly retracted her claw, evidently disappointed that she could not touch Mars. Nonetheless, she continued. "You won't ever have to be alone anymore." She stated, and then, opting for something a bit different that didn't involve her claws, she decided to lean closer to him, resting her head on his shoulder. "That's a promise, okay?" She finished, and then looked up at Mars expectantly, hoping that she had managed to cheer him up at least a little bit.

Irredeemable: Part 3

Xander just wiped the floor with Superman and Thor inside a minute. They were some of the heaviest hitters on Earth. Despite them being out of the picture. The remaining heroes took a stand against him. It was a bloodbath. All it took was one swing from Xander to reduce them to a pile of body parts. One minute passed and half the combined forces of the Justice League and Avengers were little more than a pile of bodies and parts. "How do you like me now?! Huh?!" HE screamed as the remaining forces retreated. Those who could run or fly were going as fast as they could. "Oh NOW you wanna run?" He laughed and managed to shoot several of them out of the sky. "Great. There goes most of my fun." He muttered and decided to fly back to the U.N. who were all bickering on what to do next.

Xander ripped the roof off of the building and the room went dead silent. One poor soul tried to make a run for it and Xander just obliterated him. Only leaving a few bones."Nuh uh. We're gonna talk. We can be adults about this." He said floating about ten feet above the group. "I mean, I hate politics. Like a lot. So tell you what. We're gonna play a game. All you gotta do is convince me not to sink your respective countries into the ocean. The prize is not having your country sent to the bottom of the ocean. It's kinda like that book. Hunger games or some shit. So. Who wants to go first?" He asked and sat down on the podium.

The Greek ambassador decided to speak up first. "We've always loved you! Please! Come to Greece, and-and-and we'll make you a king! You've always been the favorite!" He was barely holding his bowels in as Xander floated over to him.

"Hmmm..." He thought for a second. "Tsk Tsk tsk. Y'know, that's why I've always hated politics. Liars!" He said and smashed through the wall, flying towards Greece at an incredible speed. Once he was well above the country, he just blasted it at random. Carving it and decimating it. He floated down to see the people scrambling and panicking when he heard a boom tube open and out walked Cyborg. "Hey Vic. You come to watch?" He asked.

"No. I'm getting these people out-"

"No. You can choose ten."

"What?"

"Ten people get to live. The rest die. I was forced to choose some lives over others. Every. Single. Day. Now, I'm making you do it. Now choose. You have 15 seconds before I sink this rock."

Victor was terrified of Xander. Everyone on Earth was. "You... Bastard... We're going to kill you. Do you understand me?" Victor chose his ten people at random and as soon as he got them away from the country, Xander unleashed a massive explosion that wiped Greece clean off of the map.

"Sure you will." He said and flew back to the U.N. "Now. Who's next in our little game? Greece... Lost. Wah wah. I'm sure Germany ain't too sad about that!" He said and laughed, but no one else was. "What? That was funny!"

Mars was sitting in silence when suddenly he felt Kiris' tail around his leg, patting it softly and gently. He looked over and Kiris smiling brightly. He noticed she smiled a lot, even when she was sad and things were tough. He wondered how she could manage to do that, and knew that most take its own kind of strength.

He was surprised when Kiris rested her head on his shoulder. He was blushing brightly. He had never been in a situation like this with a girl before, at least not when they were alone like they were now. However Kiris' words seemed to make Mars less worried about his embarrassment, and just fixated on what she said. The prise that he wouldn't have to be alone anymore, sounded almost too good to be tre. His insecurities and fears began to kick in at first, but then when he saw Kirisloing at him he knew she meant it sincerely. Mars felt like a tight knot was being untangled in his stomach. Someone finally said what he been desperate to hear for a very long time.

"Okay, I believe you." He said softly, gratitude and surprise were clear on his face. He slowly wrapped his arm around Kiris and again forgot about his embarrassment as he pulled her a bit closer to him. His awkwardness was being outweighed by a desire to be close to her. "I promise you won't be alone either, not while I'm around." Mars said sincerely, wanting Kiris to know that he had her back too.

Glacia rolled with the kick, grunting as she hit the wall of the dojo. She felt as if her ribs were cracked, though there was no way to check. She returned to the shadows, not allowing herself to let out even a groan. She could feel her body repair itself, and the pain was great. She quickly force the ground of the dojo to freeze over, so that people running now would trip. When Hiroshi next attack, she would be able to react.

Though, as she tried to get up she found her body begin to betray her. She looked to see no blood, but her arm was broken. She grunted, trying to reset it so it could heal.

"And your threats are as hollow as the universe itself. I have fought demons far worse than you in the past, and we all have only grown stronger since then." The Black Dragon sentenced. "Now leave, Xyrixxma, leave this place at once before the last shreds of my patience are worn down at last by your presence. And if your people truly have the gall to invade us, then be sure to tell your people and your beloved Queen Xyrix that this universe is defended, and does not yield easily." The World-Dragon stated, still glaring.

“Hollow?” Replied Yixa. She laughed. “You really are as stupid as you look.” Replied Yixa. “This offer is for your benefit. We chew through universes like banquets. We devour planets like meatballs.” She boasted. Then shook her head. “Your refusal of our terms is irrelevant. We will eat regardless. We need to eat regardless. Anyone who stands in our way are merely snacks.”

Spoke Zaki. She sighed. "I began to try to find another way to get what we needed without destroying universes. But Queen Xyrix threw me out. And now she intends to invade your universe." She spoke. "If we can stop them in this universe, and make a stand that stops their advance and consumption. We might be able to save your universe and others." Spoke the slime woman.

"You fought well against the builders, but The Xyrixxma are an altogether different foe. It will require real heroes to defend this universe." She paused. "But first, we must defend Asgard."

Valka raised a surprised eyebrow at the fact that the Xyrixxma devoured concepts. "Then they shall be a formidable foe indeed. What are the weaknesses of the Xyrixxma? For I doubt that swords will have much, if any effect on them. Are they vulnerable to the elements?" she asked.

Zak sighed. Her stress showing through. “It’s complicated. We all have a single weakness, but it is different from Xyrixma to Xyrixma. For example, one may be vulnerable to flame, but another of our kind might simply grow stronger off it. We have survived and destroyed so much because we have learned to compensate for the weaknesses of one another. If a foe with a weapon that is effective against many of us shows up, we have one of us whom simply gets stronger the more our foe uses the weapon.” She replied.

“Of course, we’re not invincible to things we don’t absorb that aren’t our weaknesses, but it’s very hard to kill us usually.” She paused. ‘The best policy would be to get a team as wide and adaptable as we are. With many different skills and powers. Then we might stand a chance…”

“Assuming they don’t just squish us…” She then paused. “I think some of those heroes are here. Though I called a few more…”

He couldn't get around the fireballs, so he went over. His powerful legs springing him into the air directly at Valka's sword. Intending to land on the blade and then kick her.

Cora wasn't happy about this woman pointing a sword at her girlfriend but she tried to stay as calm as possible. The last she wanted to do was start a fight in Asgard.

“It was just a reference Cora… We should really watch the Wizard of Oz together.” Katie frowned slightly. She wasn’t sure what was going on. Why would they be brought to Asgard? Was this some sort of trick.

She then was suddenly curious. “So… you know Thor, right?” Asked Katie. “Like… His hammer. Mjolnir. Do you have any idea how it like… works? I’m pretty curious and I wouldn’t mind getting a look at the thing. I mean it’s a pretty awesome hammer.” She paused. ‘I’m guessing you get people asking you about that a lot huh?”

September 21st. A day in which peace would be celebrated all throughout the world, back when such a thing still existed at all. That was the day. It all happened far too quickly, and there was no chance of retaliation from the brave Avengers. The black armies of The Tyrant descended like droplets falling from the sky during a biblical deluge, and with each one that fell, the Earth itself wailed. The Avengers had to do the impossible in order to stay afloat, diverting most of the falling armies by expending all of the firepower that they had available, but even so, many of the Enforcers that fell from the sky still managed to land at the target, and it was these who began the slaughter. The Hulk's rage was great, and yet he could barely dent the black armor of the Muses who sang of death and sulphur, songs that consumed the green titan from within, his screams echoing throughout the sky. Captain America's shield, a beacon of freedom and protection, was no more useful than a sheet of paper in stopping the claws of the Banshee that soon tore his still-beating heart out of his chest, crushing it before his own shocked eyes. Stark's entire horde of armors were able to do little against the onslaught; though his barrage of energy blasts managed to vaporize some of the invaders' insides, all of his armors were eventually struck down, including the one he inhabited, which was knocked out of the sky with the severed torso of one of his other suits and then left to fall to the ocean. It was a miracle that he hadn't yet drowned when we found him. Ironically, it was the less powerful members of the initiative that managed to score the most kills against the enemies. Black Widow, an accomplished assassin, was able to strike swift and true against the gaps in the Enforcers' armors, and Hawkeye's arrows were able to squeeze into the tightest nooks and cranies of their black suits. Agent Coulson, too, fought with courage that the Founding Fathers would envy, but it was all for naught. Legend has it that, in the end, Director Fury, facing odds that bordered on the ineffable, somehow managed to sever the arm of a Banshee, and used her devilish claws to strike down dozens of Enforcers by himself, before he was simultaneously torn apart and set on fire by the combined forces of the invading Muses and Banshees. That was the last attempt at organized resistance until we came along, and with good reason.

September 21st. The fall of the Triskelion.

-General Graham, Eye of the Rebellion

Where Dragons Rule

China, Earth

The agents of the Rebellion scrambled to their positions as the alarm blared through the underground complex that had become their base in China. Managing to settle inside the territory of the economic superpower had been quite difficult; they had been among the first to surrender their autonomy to the Dragon Lords, and their infrastructure remained relatively untouched, but now worked in favor of the Dragon Lords, meaning that the ever watchful eye of the Chinese was now destined to detect any sort of insurrection swiftly, so that the Enforcers stationed on Earth could be dispatched to deal with the threat. Indeed, constructing a fully functional base of operations while remaining out of the radar was extremely difficult, and the triumvirate of the Rebellion was well aware, painfully so: there had been two attempts in the past, and both resulted in a complete loss of life and the confiscation of several weapons that were very valuable to the Rebellion. However, third time, as they said, was the charm, and so, they had finally managed to establish themselves within the borders of the Asian giant. Their mission there was twofold, as they had to both recover the weapons confiscated by the Chinese government, if at all possible, and find the fragment of Mjolnir that was believed to have landed somewhere near Beijing, in order to send it back to the base of operations of Commander Greyson in Japan, where it would be safe.

And now, after having only just succeeded in completing their prioritary objective, they had been found out by the Enforcers. Luck was not on their side.

"How long until the shard is sent over?" Barked the local commander, a man in his late forties with black hair and icy blue eyes.

"The teleporter device is almost ready for the transference, and as we have already contacted the headquarters, Commander Greyson will be expecting the shipment." Responded a nearby technician, a Singaporean woman, far younger than he. "However," She continued, evidently distraught. "if we want to keep the Enforcers off of our trail, then we will have to destroy the teleporter device as soon as the shard of Mjolnir is sent, so that they won't be able to trace it back to headquarters. We'll have to make our stand here, commander." The girl concluded grimly.

"Memento mori." The commander said thoughtfully, before looking back at the gates. Everyone was in position now, and the gates were unlikely to hold for much longer against whatever was pounding on them. Grabbing his own weapon, he spoke once again. "Alright. Control, do we have visual contact with the enemy? How many of them are there? Information, damn it!" The commander growled.

"Just one, sir." Was the reply, and the commander paused.

"Fuck!" He spat with fury. "I've seen enough movies to know what happens next." He grumbled, before looking at his soldiers. A few were grizzled veterans, old and ready to die, but many were young and fearful for their lives. They knew what they were getting into when they had joined the Rebellion, that was true, but even so, the prospect of facing their own death at the hands of a lone assailant was a rather horrible thing to think of. But the commander could have none of that, not when there were more important things at stake. "Alright, everyone!" He shouted, his voice booming, and every pair of eyes turned towards him. "We'll have to hold off that thing for as long as possible here if we want the shard to make it to the other side. I can't promise that everyone will make it out alive- I can't promise that anyone will make it out alive, but that... is irrelevant." The commander sentenced. There were objections, but they were soon silenced. "REMEMBER! Remember why you fight! Remember why we all fight! This is not for me, or for Commander Greyson or General Graham. THIS IS FOR EARTH! THIS IS FOR HUMANITY! If we do not make our stand, no one will stand up with us! Now tell me, who will be strong and stand with me?!" The commander bellowed, and his once fearful men broke into a valiant cheer. His words had inspired them, and they were ready.

Or they thought they were, in any case.

Before the soldiers were even finished cheering, the gates broke down at last, and onwards stepped a figure. His skin was all black, and his hair was completely white, while his eyes were a deep shade of red. These characteristics, along with the pair of stubby horns on his head, betrayed the invader's nature as an Oni- or at least, as part of one. In his hand he held a peculiar sword of intrincate design, but that was the last thing on the minds of the soldiers that were now staring at the creature. What caught their attention was the sheer murderous intent radiating off of his body in waves that washed over the entire room, paralyzing the weaker-willed soldiers and greatly unnerving even the most grizzled veterans present; the commander himself could not avoid taking a step back, cold sweat running down his forehead. Whatever that thing was, it had no intention of letting them live.

"T-the Demon King!" Stuttered one terrified soldier. The Half-Oni turned his head towards her.

"So, you've heard of me." Was the laconic response. It was the last thing the soldier heard, as soon a blade had ran through her chest, reaping her life.

Screams and chaos soon erupted in the wake of the demon's arrival. Weapons were fired against him, but he was swift, avoiding the bullets as he ran and leapt through the battlefield, cleaving heads and tearing off limbs in his rampage. However, soon one of the bullets was able to reach him. The weapons, modelled after Commander Greyson's mystic arm, were capable of doing non-physical damage, the only kind of damage with which a mere human could hope to slay a Muse or a Banshee, and so, they were quite powerful, causing even the infamous Demon King to stagger as he felt the damage done to his very essence. The Demon King howled in pain as he clutched his side, and the increase in the killing intent that was rolling off of him was enough to stun the soldiers firing at him, most of whom were yet to reload their weapons anyway, after wasting nearly all of their ammunition in getting one measly bullet to graze him.

"KUSANAGI, ACTIVATE!" The Demon King screamed, as his blade seemed to glow. "SWORD OF SALVATION!" He growled, and his sword was enveloped by a blue light, appearing to vary in length as needed. With one swift stroke, most of the remaining soldiers had been cleaved in half, including the technician that had addressed the commander earlier, whose face was frozen in an expression of shock and terror, even as her torso was cleanly severed from her legs. The commander himself remained alive, however, having narrowly ducked under the slash. Seeing his men falling like puppets all around him, he was filled with anger, and so, he charged the Demon King. He knew that, even though he was a mutant, his strength would not be enough to overcome the Half-Oni's, but he had other plans.

The Demon King intercepted the commander's fist effortlessly, but the insurgent had been anticipating this. Nigh-instantly, he pulled out his weapon and fired off two rounds into the eyes of the Demon King, blinding him and causing searing damage to his very soul. Screaming in agony, he punched the commander in the gut, before clutching at his eyes. The commander staggered back, coughing up blood, but content nonetheless. He had bought the teleporter's crew some time, but he knew that they would need more... and he knew the only way to get it for them.

"I can still smell you..." The Demon King spoke in a low growl as the commander attempted to drag himself through the door. Before he was able to, his leg was grabbed by the Demon King. Even then, he pulled with all of his strength, trying to get his enemy under the doorway.

"This is where you die, rebel." The Demon King stated factually. The commander smiled as he reached into his pocket.

"Yes... but that does not mean that I didn't succeed." He said, before pressing the button.

There was a loud explosion, and when the dust cleared, there was a fine red mist on the air, and the Demon King was unconscious, pinned under the rubble.

In Japan, a shard of the legendary Mjolnir arrived. A shard that had costed countless lives.

But then, lives were always the price to pay in a war such as that one, and in such dire circumstances, victory was not cheap.

Mirennú listened to the words of the wielder of the Manifest Blade with a malicious glee evident in his pale eyes. For one such as him, a Dragon Lord, it was unthinkable that the outcome would be anything other than victory. Even so, it seemed that his kin was having trouble facing off against the allied forces of New Genesis and Apokolips, but fortunately for him, he had no such trouble. Without even having to soil his hands by doing battle against such pathetic creatures by himself, the Golden Dragon Lord attained victory time and time again through the hands of Manifest, one of the most reliable forces under his employ, trustworthy not because of his morals or his work ethic, but because of the influence that the possession of the cosmic shards held over him. Funny little things, they were. They held great power within, but such power was entirely useless to the Dragon Lords; even The Tyrant himself had regarded them with disdain, believing them to be simple trinkets that were of no use to one of his stature. Against his own judgement, however, Mirennú kept them, and to this day he did not regret his decision, as it had earned him a powerful tool.

For what was Manifest to a cruel Dragon Lord, if not a simple tool?

"Quite the question that you ask of me, Manifest." Mirennú spoke, laughing as he paced around the hill that overlooked the plain, scorched landscape that had once been called Mireshar. "I would like for nothing more than to see that arrogant idiot's head hanging from a jagged obsidian spike... but I think that we may have an use for him before that happens." The Golden Dragon Lord said, and looked meaningfully at Manifest, pure unadultered malice in his eyes. "Why, instead of simply getting rid of him, we could put him and that wave of his to good use, don't you think so? I have heard that the Enforcers have yet to find a way to bypass the defenses of New Genesis and Apokolips, and I do believe that it may be worth our while to send Annihilus to deal with them on our behalf. After all, the armors and weapons of our beloved Muses and Banshees are quite precious, and wasting them on such an unfructiferous campaign is not wise; instead, we can send the Annihilation Wave to fight against the New Gods. If he succeeds, then we will have one less problem to worry about, and may claim his head at our leisure; if, on the other hand, he fails, then he will be no more, and we will be no worse than we are now. Truly a genius plan, wouldn't you say so?" Mirennú said.

"Ah, and of course, we cannot forget your payment, Manifest. But before that, regarding this little plan of ours, there is one more thing to consider. The New Gods and Darkseid are both likely getting desperate about our imminent conquest, and Annihilus has already been forced to kneel before us. If we send the fool to New Genesis by himself, then who is to say that he will not attempt to align with the New Gods in order to stand against us once more? There is always the chance that they will reject him, but if not, then they will be the source of quite a headache, and if The Tyrant grows annoyed, then who could say what will happen?" The Dragon Lord mused. "So! I will be sending you with Annihilus, Manifest. You will assist him in his endeavor, and ensure that he remains loyal to us, his new masters, for the remainder of the mission. If he rebels, then you have my permission to annihilate him and his entire wave however you please. And, of course, I will not ask you to risk your life for him, or any such nonesense. I simply wish for your presence during the campaign so that you will ensure that our will is enforced."

After speaking, Mirennú produced something: a sapphire rose-shaped brooch, one that was undoubtedly familiar to Manifest. It was the shape that the shard of lightning had taken when the World-Dragon Hadrimmelis had received it as a gift of good will from Manifest himself. If there was still a trace of that man within the mind of the wielder of the Manifest Blade, then it was likely that some memories would resurface momentarily... but such memories were unlikely to change anything. Either way, Mirennú offered the shard to Manifest, oblivious to its significance.

"Here is your payment, my servant. I trust you will put it to good use in your newest endeavor." The Golden Dragon Lord grinned.

At the headquarters of the Rebellion, a phone rang. It was soon picked up by a blue-eyed redhead who looked out of place amidst all the insurgents moving around the place, but the truth was that this woman was, in fact, one of the more powerful members of the American branch of the Rebellion, one of the strongest insurgents under the direct command of the Eye of the Rebellion. Cora was her name, and the source of her strength was that she was not truly human: she was an android. Designed by talented scientists to become a powerful weapon, she escaped and was adopted by a group of heroic individuals. But after the fall of the Triskelion, all hero groups were forced to disband or face the consequences, and the Justice Queens was one of the groups that decided not to pay the ultimate price in a foolhardy attempt to defy the Dragon Lords. Of course, when the Rebellion emerged, guided by the hand of General Graham, some of the former members of the all-female superhero team were among the first to join his noble, if suicidal, cause. There was much to lose, naturally, but compared with everything that could be won, the price of losing did not seem so great.

Cora picked up the phone, confused. Who could be calling? Certainly not another member of the Rebellion, as they had other forms of communicating with each other. She could not think of anyone else who could be calling to that number, however; in fact, she was not entirely sure of why they had a phone in the first place. As far as she had been concerned, its sole utility was that of ordering pizza to Rebellion-controlled locations so that the food could then be redirected to the hidden headquarters, thus ensuring that the members of the Rebellion would remain well-fed even if they were unable to head to the surface for extended periods of time. Cora, herself, had never been concerned with such things, as she was an android and did not require to eat, but she understood the need that humans had for such things, having lived among them for years now. However, pizza was ordered by calling, and they were currently receiving a call, the exact opposite. Warily, she put the phone to her ear.

"Who is this?" She asked curtly.

Soon, the response came. It was the leader of the Gotham City Defenders, the Runner, asking to speak with an officer. The Gotham City Defenders were another group that was attempting to resist the occupation of the Dragon Lords and their Enforcers, and for a group that lacked the technology and the numbers of the Rebellion, they had performed admirably, but it was clear that they had grown desperate in the face of destruction.

Moments later, Cora was knocking on the door of the Eye of the Rebellion.

General Graham had been completely immersed in his thoughts, reliving an old scene from his past over and over again, a scene of blood and fear, a scene of loss and tragedy. Truth be told, he was beginning to have difficulties recalling some of the smaller details, though he was not sure if that was a blessing or a curse; what was certain was that the more vivid depictions of the darkness of that day were still painfully clear in his mind. It had been raining that day, oddly fitting for the scene that took place, if a bit cliché. The general, back then a simple man, had accepted the conquest of Earth, had tried to make the most of his situation. They would not hurt anyone as long as their rules were followed, he told himself. The Enforcers would not act unless crimes were committed, he told himself. He was wrong. That day, he had found a pair of teenagers who were being pursued by the Banshees, accused of conspiring against the regime of the Dragon Lords, even though such a claim was but a fabrication. That very same day, his wife had died while attempting to protect them and him as well, and her blood had stained his clothes and his face as he looked on, helplessly. The children were executed on the spot, but not him. He had committed no crimes, supposedly, and so, he was left there, lying on the ground, to cope with his loss however he could. It was that day that he understood the true terror of the regime of the Dragon Lords. It was that day that he understood that he had to take matters into his own hands. That day a man died, and General Graham was born.

"Aru..." He whispered softly, before hearing a knock on the door. "Come in." He commanded, and Cora swiftly complied.

"General, it's from The Runner, of the GCD. He wants to talk to you." The android spoke, and after a nod, left the room. The general picked up the phone.

"Have you decided to consider our offer, Boxer?" The general inquired, going straight to the point. "Your men are trustworthy and disciplined, something that I can appreciate, and the technology we have would likely be quite useful to your endeavors. It seems to me that we stand to gain much from joining forces, and let us not forget that there is a common enemy that we face." He paused. "Is this why you have called, or am I mistaken?" He asked.

Garnet watched the soul-destroying bullets fly off from her arcane revolver's cannon, and watched how each of them were either dodged or swiftly deflected, until finally, the tenth bullet managed to hit its mark, grazing the Oni's face. Though such a wound should not have caused too much damage, had it been purely physical, the creature let out a howl of unadultered pain, covering the injured part of his face with one hand while the other held his sword in a white-knuckled grip. Garnet smiled as she saw this, knowing that she had some advantage she could press now, but that had been the last bullet in her clip, and Misery would take a few moments to reload itself. Thus, she decided that she'd go with something else, and began harnessing the power of one of her bracelets, manifesting the skeletal hand of ethereal purple energy and sending it to grab the Oni and bring him closer so she could finish him off.

However, before such a thing could happen, she gasped, her eyes going wide open as the hand dematerialized, her concentration shattered. She looked down and she saw a bloody gash across her torso, not deep enough to threaten her life but worrying nonetheless. This time it was Wind who smiled, the air around his blade having cut Garnet from afar before she could seize him. The blonde woman frowned as she realized this, jumping away to avoid being struck down by another air slash. The wound she had sustained was already healing, thanks to the regenerative powers of the dark mask she wore, it was still an inconvenience to have to deal with the Oni from afar. She had Misery, of course, but it had to reload itself every ten shots, while Wind seemed to be able to perform his air slashes indefinitely, something that annoyed her to no end.

"This is going to be troublesome." She thought as she began adopting a purely defensive strategy, carefully observing Wind as she moved around in order to predict where his air slashes would be directed and avoid being there when they struck. However, though this kept her safe and alive for the time being, it was by no means enough, as she had to think of a way to end the battle and slay her enemy before too long, lest she screw up and die.

Fortunately, an idea came to her soon enough.

Suddenly, she stopped dodging, and as he noticed this, the Oni called Wind smirked, ceasing his assault for a moment.

"Give up yet, woman?" The creature asked.

"You remember that comment I made about you lot being unbelievably ugly?" The blonde woman stated, and the Oni frowned, but said nothing. "Well, I'd like to apologize. I realize now that it's the inside that counts." She said.

Then in front of Misery, a portal appeared. The next moment, ten bullets were spat out of Wind's chest, and his body fell to the ground, lifeless.

Avoiding the fallen demon corpse, Garnet walked up to Masami, who was also done with her battle. "Good to see he didn't hurt you." She commented, before looking around. "I wonder how your sister and that one kid are doing." She stated casually.

"Far from it. In fact he seems to have given me a bonus." She spoke, stroking her fluffy, fluffy tail. It was strange, how good this felt despite the fact she had four others. She then let go, sighing as she felt the power within regulate. She returned to one tail. "Good to know that your concerned about my life though. It's... nice to know that." She remarked. "Of course, I imagine it's because we're such a good team, right?"

The blue Oni was now far more wary of the tiny human in front of him, having become less confident in his ability to crush him as a result of the young man's talisman, which burned him with the slightest touch. He had since backed away, and the cuts that his enemy had inflicted on him were healing much more slowly than before, no doubt as a result of the talisman as well, but he was not yet defeated, and his strength had not left him; in fact, it had been increased by quite a bit. If Akihiko's diluted blood caused fury to empower him, then he, a full-blooded Oni, enjoyed a much stronger version of the same trait.

Akihiko, on the other hand, was just as pissed, but he was beginning to lose that boost of confidence he had received when he saw that the talisma worked wonders on the blue Oni. Sure, it gave him an edge on the fight, but even then it was taking a lot to just wound the creature and he wasn't sure if he had what it took to finish him off.

It was amidst these thoughts that he saw Thunder act. The Oni pounded the floor with one of his massive fists, causing a rumbling that shook the entire room, causing Akihiko to be thrown slightly off balance. Taking advantage of this one moment of vulnerability, the Oni shot forward with a burst of speed and slammed one of his fists into Akihiko's stomach. The young man's eyes went wide as he felt the impact, and he was barely able to hold onto both Kusanagi and his medallion, as he was sent flying away, slamming into the opposite wall with such enormous force that he coughed up a lot of blood. Falling to the ground, he felt himself growing weaker, his consciousness trying to slip away. His strength was fading along with his mind.

But he wouldn't have any of that.

Holding onto his consciousness with his last few ounces of strength, Akihiko looked up, the edges of his vision going black and blurry, and saw the blue Oni charging towards him once more, as if to deal the final blow and end his life. He knew that he couldn't allow this to pass, couldn't die and leave his mother alone and let these monsters keep Kusanagi for themselves, and so, drawing strength from God-knew-where, he raised his blade, the tip pointed towards Thunder, and released all of the electricity that was crackling around it, the lightning being sent forth towards the blue Oni in a concentrated burst and striking him squarely in the chest.

The lightning paralyzed him for a moment, and so, Akihiko, knowing that this was his only chance to win, stood up and rushed towards the Oni. Raising his sword and pointing it towards the Oni's heart, he once again commanded the emerald flames around it to concentrate on the tip in order to improve the piercing power of the blade. He lunged forward, betting everything on this attack.

Time seemed to freeze as the sword pierced the Oni, neither of the two combatants daring to move. But finally, after several moments had passed, Akihiko let out a sigh of relief and removed Kusanagi from Thunder's body, the corpse tumbling to the ground with a heavy thud. The young man allowed himself to fall to the ground on his back, resting at last. His healing factor was already getting to work on fixing him, but with the massive internal damage that the Oni's blow caused, and the damage that his next one would inevitably cause, he would have most certainly died if he had not proceeded with his gambit. An unsavory thought to say the least.

"Sleep, Kusanagi." He said, and the blade seemed to shrink back to its original size, the fire and the lightning disappearing from its edge.

<<I'll have to find the magnetic scabbard I made, too.>> The young man mused aloud as he rested. <<...How exhausting.>>

Akari frowned. She walked towards the treasure hoard. She saw a scabbard and grabbed it. She frowned. Then she turned to the moody Oni and tossed the sheath at his head intentionally. She was rather annoyed at him, and couldnt even feel good about the fact she had been victorious. "There. Now will you quit moping?" She spoke. "it's getting really old."

"Thunderstorm Cannon." the voice of Antioch rumbled from deep within his cell.

A long weapon that was clearly assembled from five others appeared in the hands of the interdimensional being. He held it aloft as electricity flowed along the length of it and the fan just above his hand whirred. The weapon charged, an orange glow forming in the barrel. The command 'fire' was heard as Antioch pulled the trigger, firing the weapon at the bars, destroying them. He quickly fled, leaving the planet behind in order to find his father, Ephesus.

Ephesus had found the Omega Rabbit Talisman with ease, and felt that he could take the time to end his son once and for all. He left Earth and traveled in the general direction of Antioch, calling upon the Archangel Blade. Traveling at unbelievable speeds thanks to the Omega Talisman, Ephesus quickly found his way to Antioch.

"Father." Antioch said, looking at the man who had raised him.
"You lost the privilege to call me that when you stole the Primus Blade." Ephesus answered, glaring at his wayward son.
"If you had simply given it too me when I asked for your permission to marry Axilis-Esgarouth-Emill," Antioch countered, "as is our family tradition, I wouldn't have stolen it!"
"I did not approve!" Ephesus yelled, "I will NOT have my son marry a lesser being. There are countless versions of this 'Axilis', you can go fondle as many as you wish, but you WON'T marry the one!"
"I've met the other versions, they are not her." Antioch said, anger in his voice, "Quantum Defender!"

A gun appeared his hand, the barrel of it in the shape of a robotic dinosaur. Pulling the handle back, he extended a blade from the barrel, turning the weapon into a sword. Antioch glared at his father, who simply looked at him disdain. After a few moments, their blades were clashing, energy erupting from the holy weapon and the time weapon. Pushing against each other, the two beings from beyond time and space glared at each other, hate filling what was once love.

They pushed away, the archangel blade quickly coming down to end Antioch. The blade of the Quantum Defender quickly pushed it away before sailing across the chest of Ephesus. Ephesus grabbed at his chest, which was now bleeding. His hate-filled gaze fell upon his son, the archangel blade falling with unmatched force as he tried to kill his only child. Antioch was able to block most of the blows, but was soon overwhelmed, the blade that was held by the most powerful of angels quickly forming large gashes on his arms and chest.

Antioch quickly returned his weapon to blaster mode and began to fire rounds at his father, some of which hit his arms others his shoulders and others yet missed him. Ephesus fell to a knee, looking up at Antioch and ordering him to finish this.

"No." was Antioch's simple reply, before leaving.

Ephesus, disgraced and embarrassed, now had another reason to want his son dead. He knew, however, that first he would have to find the Omega Talismans before Antioch, and to do that, his son would need a distraction. An idea soon came to him, and he knew what he had to do.

Slavery is Freedom Part Two

Cassandra laughed as they sat down at the dining table. Tomia wasn't sure how she could be laughing, maybe she just didn't care anymore. Tomia cared though, her stomach was twisted in awful nots. It wasn't helping any that he had arrived, having touched down on the small resort planet earlier this day. Even thinking about the large Saiyan was enough to make her vomit.

" Eat up Tomia. You know what he'll do if he thinks your too weak to bear children." Cassandra remarked, absentmindedly staring at the chefs that rushed around the room. Tomia gagged when she remembered exactly why she had to be well fed. She was getting married tonight. To the man who killed her father and destroyed her home planet.

" Do you think he remembers him?" Tomia whispered quietly. Cassandra shook her head slightly as she sat down next to Tomia, clasping her hand gently. " I can't lie to you Tomia. Lord Broly's long forgotten Hiroshi Mako. Maybe you should too, you'd save yourself some pain."

Tomia whimpered slightly as she leaned into the girl she'd come to know so well. Sometimes she wished she remembered more about the man that had raised her. But when she was reminded of the day he died, she was glad she didn't. What she remembered most was her fathers neck snapping, and the spray of blood. Besides that, she onto remembered the fireworks of earths demise.

" How's are little bride doing?" Despite how tired the voice was, it was too familiar. Turning around, she held back tears as she leaped into her moms arms, hugging her tightly. Nothing else mattered at that moment, just her mother, one of the last person she had in this world.

Taro wiped a dribble of blood away from his mouth as he approached Masami and Garnet. It was good that the rest had all survived their battles. This pack was strong in Taro's eyes . . . Even the human, he had to concede that point.
"I see you advance in power and skill my friend."
He said to Masami with a smile and gestured to her new tail. His brow furrowed with curiosity when she made her tails disappear, but he refrained from asking, now was not the time.
He looked the two of them up and down, checking for any injuries before he nodded, satisfied that they were okay.
"We are required to return to your aunt I assume . . . Is our human tomadachi coming?"
Taro asked, loud enough to reach Akihiko's ears. He had decided he did not appreciate this human. He was quite self-centered in Taro's eyes. Whether or not he had reasons for it, Taro did not like it, and the annoyance in his voice said just as much.

Cora
Cora relaxed when Sif lowered her sword, but tensed a little when she said they couldn't leave. Sif said they weren't prisoners, but that sounded like being imprisoned to her. Still, Cora understood that they needed to protect their city. Besides Sif seemed nice, and Katie seemed quite interested in Asgard. Cora had to admit, the city was quite spectacular. She followed along with Katie and Sig as they spoke about Thor's hammer. She walked along silently, holding Katie's hand as she looked at at the city and the large dinning hall ahead of them. Cora couldn't help but still wonder who could have brought them there. The Asgardians clearly weren't expecting them, so who could it have been?

We have been, or should I say had been lovers for several hundred years until he met that accursed mortal!" her grip tightening on her sword, the Valkyries edging away a bit from the dark look upon the Goddess of War's face. Calming down, she continued. "But never mind that. Mjolnir is perhaps the finest creation of the All-Mother, who is also our Goddess of Forging, Metal and Fire. The hammer is forged from a metal with a vast capacity for containing magic, which we call uru, the heart of a dying star. Though Valka, being a master of metal, can create it at will. The hammer, as I'm sure you know, can channel lightning, along with a vast majority of uses. That power is based on a series of enchantments that only Valka could describe to you. And then, there is the Worthiness Enchantment, perhaps its most famous feature."

"Only the most worthy of all can lift and wield the hammer, though the enchantment allows for others to wield it at desperate times, if absolutely necessary. It took the Son of Odin many years before he could lift it. Other people who have managed to lift it include Valka, as worthiness depends on the values she deems necessary for a wielder, and also your Wonder Woman, Captain of America and Superman, I believe, among a few others. Once grasped the hammer establishes a link with the grasper and searches their mind, memories and values, matching them up with their own and that of Valka. Indeed, its might is awe-inspiring, and many times have we rallied to it in battle." Sif said, smiling at the memories. "I am afraid as to seeing it, you would have to speak with Thor. Valka made another one at the End of All Things, and wielded it then, but it has since passed hands, to an Inhuman, I believe. And oh yes, we receive many questions. Now, let us feast! And if thou have more questions of Asgard, you may have them." Sif said, grabbing a flagon of wine and beginning to fill her plate.

She frowned at that. "Then this will prove to be of particular difficulty. But never let it be said that we of Asgard shall give up before a fight. Perhaps we may be able to trick the Xyrixxma into absorbing something much weaker than they suspect. Are there any of them who might have a change of heart as you have?" Valka asked hopefully, but not expecting an affirmative answer.

"Some? Then let us go greet them, and I shall see if I can call a few more." Valka said, starting to walk towards the main halls.

However, she was not able the second attack, with the speedster jumping over her, swinging the hammer in the process. With no shield, she had nothing to block the hammer unless she wanted to convert the metal into another shape, which she wasn't willing to do. Thus, as Mjolnir connected with her ribs, she went flying, landing several feet back from her original position. "Good. Quite good," she said, getting up. She doesn't expect that to fully take him out, even if it hits him his armour would most likely stop the small dart from fully piercing through. After firing the dart, she fully stands upright, removing the batarang with one hand and holding up her sword in the other, if he isn't down she's ready for his next attack.

Owlman deftly dodged the dart, jumping backwards- Into the hands of Iron Man, now sporting an EMP-proof suit he had stored away. "What! You're supposed to be-"

"Off-world? Yep. Glad I'm not though. Owlman, right? All your people upstairs, except your not-Ultron, are in SHIELD custody. Congrats." Iron Man interrupted casually. "You'll be joining them when you wake up."

"Woohoo!" He said accidentally releasing himself from the wall and falling flat on his face. "Ow... Nah. I'm good. I just wanted to see if I actually learned something from all that time I was made, against my will, to learn how to fight." He said. "And by the way. Thanks. I've had a rough day. Almost getting killed by my own mother is definitely not how I wanted to go out. Think I'm gonna head home and get something to eat. I'm hungry, tired, sore, and most importantly hungry. I got the metabolism of a friggin' nuclear sub. Sure I don't get fat, but I also have to eat like every 5 minutes." He said and grabbed his Mjolnir. "In the off chance you need me, I'll be in Attilan. Can't miss it. Big ass city off the coast of New York." He looked up to Valka as sort of a mother figure. Since his was obviously far from being the best mother in the universe. "Later, tater." He said, spun Mjolnir around his hand and launched himself off of Asgard.

Xander and Naja: Empire

They let the Kree and Kryptonians speak for a bit. They seemed to fit right in which made the both of them quite happy. Xander was afraid of the potential for condescension, but since, aside from the Kree's blue skin, they were pretty much physically equal. The usual difference between a Kryptonian and everyone else was that. Without that advantage things seemed to be quite a bit more mellow. "Alright. For our first step. Our Kree friends here are going to take some of us to a few of the planets that are in dire need of aid. Pirates, lack of resources, people are hurt and tired. We're gonna make sure that doesn't happen. And then we're going to the same to every race we come across. Or rather. Naja will be heading out to do that with you. She's much better with people than I am." He explained.

"For those who want to go explore the universe and help people." Naja said. "Float on up here with me." She said and about a dozen denizens of Kandor decided to help, alongside the 10 Kree that were already planning on going.

"Awesome. As for the rest of us. We have two things we to do. We're going to need to start mass producing my serum for our newcomers. And we're going to need space for them to stay. So we'll have to build some buildings. It shouldn't take more than a few hours." Xander explained. Zod was about to speak up and demand something, but Xander cut him off. "Relax General. I have a job for you. Something more your speed. When these new recruits arrive and we gas them up, they're going to need someone to train them in their new senses and abilities. Those without combat training will obviously need it. You're, from my experience, the most combat experienced person here. So that's your job." This seemed to be enough to stop him from objecting yet again. "Alright. Let's get moving!"

Manifest received the brooch silently, staring at it for a moment. Suddenly, he closed his eyes and threw it into the air, unsheathing the Manifest Blade as it went up. The sapphire rose began to fall, Manifest's eyes remained closed, his blade drawn, memories coursing through his mind. Memories of a time when he fought for Life, when he fought for something bigger than himself. His eyes opened with new certainty and he plunged the blade forward into the falling brooch. A bright flash overtook the area for a brief moment, and the sapphire brooch fell lifeless and powerless on the ground. Above it, a sphere of pure cosmic energy floated, the energies within coursing with what could almost be called intelligence.

Manifest's Cheshire smile returned as he pressed his hand against it. His eyes and the Manifest Blade began to glow for a brief moment as the blade absorbed the power of the fragment. When all was said and done, he breathed deeply, leaning down and picking up the brooch that yet remained. He held it in his open palm and, in a move that bore no significance whatsoever to the Dragon Lord, yet all the significance in the world to Manifest, he crushed it and opened his hand, watching its dust fly away in the wind of the wartorn world.

He turned towards his master. "The New Gods will see death on the horizon shortly. Annihilus will fall into line, and they will all kneel before the Dragon Lords." A thin film began to form around his body, quickly solidifying into cosmic armour he had taken off the corpse of a New God that had thought himself protector of the Universe several years prior. He looked up and launched himself through the boom tube that opened above him.

The Negative Zone
"My Masters have decided your fate, Annihilus." Manifest intoned as he flew through the Negative Zone. "Do not attempt to hide from my wrath. You know I am here, and you can hear me. Do not make this harder than it has to be. You do not die today, if you follow their orders."

A large ship appeared, Annihilus at the helm. Manifest flew up outside of it. "Prepare the Annihilation Wave. We march on New Orion and Apokolips at my order and the Dragons' behest."

Inside the war room of Ace Chemicals, all was silent with the exception of The Runner and the phone. "I told you not to call me that, Graham. Boxer died five years ago." He growled. "And I told you three years ago I wanted no part of your damn Rebellion. You're going to get every last soldier under your command slaughtered, and you're not going to see you did anything wrong until death stares you in the face and plunges a scythe into you herself." He paused for a moment in his fury, and finally relented, sighing and leaning back. "But god damn you, I need your help."

He motioned for his advisers to leave the room. "My contact from the old WayneTech building fell silent three weeks ago. He had been supplying the GCD with the tech we needed to survive and flourish. With Bludhaven gone, the Defenders can't stand anywhere but here. I'm going to be frank with you. The GCD is formed of six cells. North, South, West, East, Central, and..." He sighed. "The Fortress. The old Ace Chemicals building isn't abandoned, like we made it look. We took up refuge here after the initial Muse assault left. We've been scavenging their tech for ages. The South cell is dead, but the rest are still active. I have four former Bats under my command and at least one non-Bat Super, but we've been quiet. We've been avoiding the spotlight, because we know that the moment we take it, we die. Here's the deal. I put my the Defenders under the command of your... Rebellion, on the condition that I lead them and I'm the one that relays them the orders. You get four Bats and the single most comprehensive Gotham defence corps that has ever existed, most of which has training from ex-military and Bats alike, I keep the damn thing afloat."

The Runner breathed deeply. He couldn't help but feel like he was making a deal with the devil. "If you agree, either meet me or have someone meet me here at the Fortress. I know its a former Muse base, but they haven't had eyes here in four years, thanks to our WayneTech contact, Penny-Two, aka Julia Pennyworth."

The Black Bat quickly discovered Nightraven's location, throwing a batarang to impale the wall ahead of her and launching herself forward, not even attempting to be stealthy. She smirked, turning the leap into a flying kick at Nightraven.

The Herald tilted his head for a moment before shrugging. "Your generosity, though unnecessary, is appreciated. As for my warning..." He closed his eyes for a moment.

Suddenly, they shot open and took a vague glow. Were Eternal Night questioned afterwards as to what colour the glow was, she would not be able to recall at all- For indeed, it was no colour and every colour, it was naught and it was the edge of naught. It was indescribable. His voice took on, in addition to the already strange tone it held, a deeper and more sinister sound.

When All become Naught
And Naught takes a name,
Only death has it wrought,
Through the fire and flame.

The death of the Universe, inevitably at hand.
Mortal and Hero in final death throe.
The wrath of Oblivion that none can withstand.

The light faded from his eyes and he began speaking again. After his little display, it was somehow... Colder.
"Think not I speak of the pretender False Oblivion that you no doubt know. His fate is sealed as well."
