I really dont understand this whole classification thing. my nation has gone from iron fist to father knows best to corrupt dictatorship. this is not what i wanted. i have just been resolving issues based on how imagined my nation to be but what its ending up to be is the exact opposite of how i expected. Like, many of my banners makes no sense of how i got them, mainly the ones dealing with politcal freedom such as clamp down on opposition and listening in on citizens, and others like the white wale banner and cutural based tourism industry. I have not gotten any issures related to the banners.

How your nation is categorized depends on how you respect freedoms in answering Daily Issues. Clamping down on economic freedoms the way you did when you hiked taxes on the rich is what caused your nation to slip from a Father Knows Best State to a Corrupt Dictatorship. (Prior to that, your increase of personal freedom by legalizing gay marriage is probably what changed you over from Iron Fist Consumerism to FKBS.) It's likely your responses to other issues had unexpected outcomes. Since your Political Freedoms are already so low, I wouldn't doubt it.

Refer to the table to see how you can get yourself into categories you might like better. Just increasing political freedoms a little can make you a Democratic Socialist State, instead of a CD:

Your classification is based on your three core freedoms (civil, economic, and political).

All three classifications that you claim to have been have low political freedoms, so that didn't change significantly. Iron Fist Consumerists has low civil freedom and medium economic freedom, Father Knows Best State has medium of both, and has Corrupt Dictatorhip has medium civil freedom and low economic freedom. So what happened is that you first had a gain in civil freedom (Iron Fist Consumerists -> Father Knows Best State), and then a loss in economic freedom (Father Knows Best State -> Corrupt Dictatorship).

It's pretty clear that refraining from compolsory organ donation and permitting same-sex marriage are good for your civil rights, so that explains that change. Similarly, it shouldn't be surprising that punishing rich people with higher taxes lowers your economic rights, so that explains that, too.

Furthermore, NationStates was not created to be as realistic as possible. It was created as a satire, an exaggeration of reality. Therefore, effects will be similarly exaggerated. That doesn't mean the game's entirely illogical, but there will be unexpected effects. However, as shown above, the effects you've seen so far are completely reasonable for the actions you've taken.

Your civil rights and economic freedoms (not strength) determine whether your nation is liberal, conservative, or centrist. High civil rights and low economics suggest left-wing, and vice versa for right-wing. Centrist governments have equal civil rights and economy. Left-leaning states have civil rights that are one above economy, and vice versa for right-leaning. Political freedoms don't matter.

Also, if you join the WA then the passage of GA resolutions will affect your nation's stats in various ways depending on those resolutions' categories and strengths/areas-of-effect.
