PROCLAMATION
The NationStates General Peace Prize Committee,
having taken into account the results of the proceedings, presents
Médecins Sans Frontières
with the Sixth Edition of the NationStates General Peace Prize - Year 2015.
The Prize is awarded them
for their selfless devotion to providing free care to those who need it, regardless of who they are, in some of the worst conflicts and emergencies witnessed in recent history. The organisation was originally founded in 1971 in the wake of the Biafra secession and since then has helped deliver healthcare and medicinal training to many thousands in such situations as; the civil wars in Sudan, the genocide in Rwanda, the al-Anfal conflict, the Liberian civil war, and the Cambodian wars. In more than 40 years of facing incredible difficulty in their work, the MSF has only called for military action once. This was in Rwanda after they lost almost 100 staff, and the first hand witnessing of the mass murder made it obvious that the conflict could not be solved by doctors alone. To this day the men and women of MSF strive to help those in need, facing the very real threat of direct violence, kidnap, and landmines, not to mention the risks of disease. They give freely to people regardless of race, faith, political affiliation, and also believe the needs of these people outweigh any respect for borders.
The Committee desires furthermore to honour the memory of Alan Kurdi, also known as Aylan Kurdi, whose death represented clearly to the whole world the plight of the hundreds of thousands of asylum seekers escaping from war-torn areas to seek shelter in Europe. The Committee wants to remember that receiving shelter from wars is a human right, enshrined in various declarations, treatises and constitutions, but way too often ignored by many countries and many people.the Chair of the Committee

NOTES & RULES
ABOUT THE NOMINATIONS PHASE:
- The nominations phase is now CLOSED.
- Every single nomination will have to be supported by at least 5 NSGers to pass to the next stage - poll between the 10 most supported nominations. ...if less than 10 candidates will have reached 5 nominations, the Committee will try to include in the final poll also those who got 4, or eventually 3, nominations only.
- REAL LIFE individuals, REAL LIFE organizations. No NS Nations, groups of NS Nations, or otherwise fictional nominees.
- PEOPLE must be ALIVE at the moment of the nomination. ORGANIZATIONS must be ACTIVE at the moment of the nomination.
- INANIMATED OBJECTS accepted also, provided they are single, physical objects still existing at the moment of the nomination. As a guideline, it should be something eligible as UNESCO World Heritage (material or immaterial).
- ALWAYS provide a good explanation of the contribute your nominee has given. Take a peep at the previous editions to have examples of good and bad explanations.
- ONLY ONE nomination per NSGer, please. THIS INCLUDES SUPPORTING OTHER NOMINATIONS: if you already nominated someone you cannot support someone else's nomination. You can retire a nomination/support you previously made/gave (we'd prefer you didn't though, because the thread would become a mess!). And no, you can't support more than one nomination. I thought it was clear.
- Note: If you aren't submitting a new nomination, and are instead going to support someone that has already been nominated, be sure to check the WHOLE nomination list.
- Please, campaign against nominees just in the POLL phase.
- NO NOMINATIONS VIA TG WILL BE ACCEPTED. ONLY POSTS IN THIS THREAD. ALSO DO NOT PESTER THE COMMITTEE VIA TG.
- Previous winners of the prize cannot be nominated.
- Support by puppet nations - identified as such by NS mods - will be considered void.
Note: considering how some people are evidently NOT reading the rules above, the committee will consider as void the posts with double nominations or supports.
ABOUT THE POLL PHASE:
- The poll is now CLOSED.
- YES you can change your vote in the poll.
- NO you can't vote for more than one candidate.
- NO you don't have necessarily to vote for the same candidate you nominated.
- YES you can campaign for/against candidates ON THIS THREAD DURING THE POLL PHASE. Just let's keep it reasonable, ok?
POLL
The poll is now CLOSED.
Poll between:
- Hassan Rouhani (individual, Iran), John Kerry (individual, USA), Iran and the P5+1 (organisation, international), 8 nominations
- Angela Merkel (individual, Germany) and the German government (organisation, Germany), 7 nominations
- Blue Shield International (organisation, international), 7 nominations
- Médecins Sans Frontières (organisation, international), 5 nominations
- Desmond Tutu (individual, South Africa), 3 nominations
NOMINATIONS LIST
- Angela Merkel (individual, Germany) and the German government (organisation, Germany)
for her handling of the migrant crisis. In the face of great resistance, where fellow governments in both Germany's area (UK among others), and Syria's area (Saoudi-Arabia, among others) are at best hesitant to accept refugees; Germany has stepped up to the place and welcomes them. This is saving and improving thousands of lives, that would otherwise be stuck in poor if not outright dangerous conditions.
7 nominations: The Blaatschapen, Herrebrugh, New Werpland, Eastern Equestria, Kaboomlandia, The Conez Imperium - Blue Shield International (organisation, international)
In a period where cultural heritage is under considerable threat from war - as shown by (among other examples) the wanton destruction of cultural heritage in Syria and Iraq by most sides in the overlapping conflicts - those heritage professionals who risk their lives to at least try and save our global cultural heritage for future generations deserve some form of recognition even if the nature of their work means they're not always successful.
7 nominations: The Archregimancy, Deuxtete, The Serbian Empire, Washington Resistance Army, The United Countries of America, Neo-Vinnland - Aleksandr Lukašenka (aka Lukashenko) (individual, Belarus)
for his efforts in trying to negotiate peace and promote dialogue between Ukraine and Russia who are currently in war. He has tried to find balance between two sides and Belarus has hosted 2 summits in Minsk where leaders of Germany, Ukraine, France and Russia met to find a solution to this conflict.
2 nominations: Teemant, United Marxist Nations - Médecins Sans Frontières (organisation, international)
because of their selfless devotion to providing free care to those who need it, regardless of who they are, in some of the worst conflicts and emergencies witnessed in recent history. They give freely to people regardless of race, faith, political affiliation, and also believe the needs of these people outweigh any respect for borders.
5 nominations: Shamhnan Insir, Neutraligon, The Saint James Islands, -Ebola-, Izdequitch - Freedom From Religion Foundation (organisation, USA)
for their ongoing efforts to promote secular society.
THIS NOMINATION NEEDS TO BE EXPANDED, AN EXCERPT OF THEIR OWN WEBSITE ISN'T ENOUGH
NOMINATION ACCEPTED WITH RESERVE
1 nomination: Dyakovo - Hassan Rouhani (individual, Iran), John Kerry (individual, USA), Iran and the P5+1 (organisation, international)
for negotiating and settling on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action. Despite pressure from numerous opponents that ranged from Israel to political forces within their own governments, the P5+1 and Iran achieved a comprehensive nuclear deal that looks set to prevent a nuclear arms race in the Middle East between Iran, Israel, and Saudi Arabia.
... Hassan Rouhani, the President of Iran because of his ability to negotiate a historic deal with the United States of America, even when everyone from his Supreme Leader, to many people in his own nation, to many people in America tried to stop him. The deal represents huge progress and may be a huge step for peace in the Middle East. No other issue impacted Peace this year more than this deal and Hassan was the biggest player in it.
...John Kerry, for pulling off the impossible between two historically unfriendly states, and managing to hammer out an anti-nuke agreement with Iran despite powerful forces in both nations doing all that they could to sabotage the process. If this works--and there's no compelling reason to believe that it will not, and every reason to expect that it will--then this has been a major step in combating the proliferation of nuclear weapons, and providing some sort of sense of stability in an increasingly unstable region.
8 nominations: Eol Sha, Braberland, Greater United Kingdom of Wiland, Gellinor, Yumyumsuppertime, Atomic Utopia, Marcurix, New Tuva SSSR
THE COMMITTEE HAS MERGED THE NOMINATIONS OF ROUHANI, KERRY, AND IRAN/P5+1 - Betty Makoni (individual, Zimbabwe)
a Zimbabwean gender activist who founded the Girl Child Network in 1999. Girl Child Network is a charity which cares for Zimbabwean sex abuse victims. The organization has rescued more than 35,000 girls. She earned two degrees from the University of Zimbabwe, and has been awarded numerous national and international awards. Orphaned as a child and sexually abused, Makoni is helping dispel erroneous information spread by "healers" and religious men that having sex with a virgin girl cures AIDS. She continues to rescue girls who have been raped and sexually abused by giving them shelter and education.
1 nomination: Nanatsu no Tsuki - Desmond Tutu (individual, South Africa)
not only a courageous fighter against apartheid, but he still continues to fight corruption, AIDs, poverty, and misinformation today. He does this not only in South Africa, but for his entire continent.
3 nominations: Liberty and Linguistics, Ulg, Wolfmanne2 - Petro Poroshenko (individual, Ukraine)
for his efforts to bring peace to his long-suffering and still fighting for it's real freedom country. He of all the people tries to actually follow these Minsk agreements and currently is even willing to sacrifice his own career as a politician in the name of long lasting peace.
1 nomination: Sharania - Genocide Watch (organisation, international)
an organization dedicating to documenting and researching genocide. Genocide Watch also documents situations of discrimination and racism which could lead to genocide. Genocide Watch has a "10 stages" model which is able to show how close countries around the world are to genocide. Genocide Watch has contributed significantly to the prevention and documentation of genocide and has significantly contributed to global peace.
1 nomination: Confederate Ramenia - Al Jazeera English Channel (organisation, international)
for insisting that migrants should be seen as refugees instead, hence enticing humanity to have a much softer and respectful heart towards those fleeing conflict or human rights oppression, and to encourage humanity not to assume that all X are Y (in keeping with the spirit of one of the NSG forum rules). They say that the word "migrant" is no longer fit for purpose when it comes to recent events like the events in the Mediterranean Sea and the border crisis.
2 nominations: Minoa, Merizoc - Kim-Yong Un (individual, DPR Korea)
NOMINATION SUSPENDED because of insufficient motivation - Vladimir Vladimirovic Putin (individual, Russia)
NOMINATION SUSPENDED because of insufficient motivation - Viktor Orban (individual, Hungary)
NOMINATION SUSPENDED because of insufficient motivation - Ron Paul (individual, USA)
NOMINATION REJECTED because of insufficient motivation - David Cameron (individual, UK)
NOMINATION SUSPENDED because of insufficient motivation - David Duke (individual, ???)
NOMINATION SUSPENDED because of insufficient motivation - The Independent (organisation, UK)

The Committee, anyway, will remember the late Mr.Kurdi and with a honourable mention.
