Your list does include some cheap alternatives, though, which seems a bit contradictory to the whole "people will pay more for something that isn't necessarily the best if they have other reasons for justifying it." Mosins aren't the best (Forgive me Sergei), but they are cheap, and they can fulfill their intended function well enough. Same for steel-cased ammo and skimping on tips and buying clothes that aren't name brand.


Point I was after is "people buy the shit they want" whether it be for a good reason or not. That is why there would be a market for Pancors (even if it wasn't a huge one) even though countless other shotguns already do the same thing better at lesser cost.

Mosins have the ability to kill you from a half mile away and i have heard that some Russians forces still use it. Meanwhile, Swords were obsolete as a weapon as late as ww1 or earlier in the Victorian era.
