Rebellious Savages Attack!

During a daily patrol by the cavalry of the battle-hardened Essex Division, several hundred barbarians began an attack. Recognizing that their numbers were far too small, the cavalry retreated and warned infantry to organize. They amassed about 4,000 infantry and 2,000 archers, adding to a total number of 6,000 troops.

Currently, the troops are deployed near the town of NorthHampton, ready to meet the savage barbarians, and likely will expand northwards to finish the dream of a unified England.

The Battle

After about 6,000 soldiers were mobilized to fight the barbarians of the north, newly crowned King Julius himself came along, to prove his valor and show his military ability. When the soldiers met up with the various barbarians, they saw about 4,000 of them who were organized and had decent fighting ability. The Barbarians, however, were already prepared and began their attack, rushing disorderly with far more haste then caution, making it difficult for archers to shoot. Julius led the front-line infantry, and kept their hopes up, allowing them not to be deterred.

The front-line infantry easily stood their ground against the disorderly barbarians, and slaughtered nearly 2,000 of them. During the fight, Julius personally slaughtered many barbarians, and earned the loyalty of the army. Despite this, the barbarians broke through the weak centre defense line, yet, this allowed for the archers to have a perfect shot, as the barbarians were right in their view. The archers pulled the strings and fired, killing the vast majority of the remaining barbarians. About 200 barbarians were left, and they were all captured and either hanged or burned at the stake.

When the battle was finished, the soldiers captured the english counties of West Midlands, Worcestshire, Shropshire, Hereforshire, and Chester.

Prussian Settlers begin expansion into Germany!

Prussian peasants have begun to settle in the remaining lands of Brandenburg and Hamburg, as well as Mecklenberg and Sacschen, taking essentially the North-East of Germany entirely. This came as a result of further negotiations with local tribes, as well as the crushing of resistance.

The Battle for Berlin concluded with Prussian victory, as 10,000 Barbarians were utterly surrounded by 15,000 Prussian men, the fort that they defended being pounded with Trebuchets and sieged for several months before the Prussian forces moved in, no survivors made it out of the Fort, with the Prussians losing only 400 men to various factors.

Tears and Toils

Postby Terra Equestor » Fri Aug 14, 2015 1:34 pm

The Duchy of Prussia wrote:Count Maximillion ''Maxy'' Captured and Beheaded by King Gustav!

King Gustav's forces captured Maximillion, and King Gustav personally beheaded the traitor to the crown, declaring his Neice, Erika I, regent until Markos could assume the Throne. The Prussian forces have left behind 5,000 men to help maintain Terra Equestor while it re-builds, and the majority of the army marches North, to cheers of celebration by Terra Equestor. Due to conversions that occurred during the Prussian march, at least half of the population is now Catholic, and the Prussians ready for a Crusade.

Silence and somber tears are felt throughout Macedonia. King Jason himself locks himself in his hall, weeping and lamenting the death of King Timothy, and Terra Equestor as he knew it. Though he knows that Basiliscus and Prussia are noble allies, he can't shake the feeling that
Equestor could've become something great, we should've become something great.
Nevertheless, he will uphold the alliances to the two kingdoms as he would have if Timothy were alive today. His hopes are not entirely diminished, for he has heard news of the birth of Prince Markos.
We would often talk of what his son's name would be. Timmy and I,
the Macedonian Rider-King reminisces,
'E said that his boy would be either "Lukos the Lustrous, cuz his Illyria would be covered with the gold gained through trade in the Mediterranean. Or if times were tough, "Markos the Mighty" or "the Magnificent". Timmy must've known that times were gonna be sh*t, I just hope that Markos don't forget where he's from. I have half a mind to go see the little guy, I'm sure Andromeda won't mind. No doubt she's proving a handful for Paul
with that he laughed, a laughter so needed in this troubled nation...

King Clyde I has answered to King Jason:
We welcome you with open arms, dear Jason!
I completely understand your grave situation, having lost friends and a nation in which you actually believed.
Dear Markos, my grandson, is all well. I'm pleased hearing you will come visit, can't wait to see you!
I am sure our alliance can continue, now that Terra Equestor is, basically, you. I am more than sure that The Duchy of Prussia will feel similarly about the topic.
Thank you, and may God be with you! See you...

Jason is planning to see his grandson, Markos and his daughter Andromeda.
I'd like to see how Paul's been treating my girl
Jason stated as he readied his humble chariot
But first I'm going to see this "Eugene" who's callin' the shots in Illyria, see if I can help him out or anything. But I won't stay for long, cuz I'd like to go and see 'em as soon as possible!
when asked if he minded a Catholic ruler sitting on the Throne of Illyricum he responded without hesitation
As long as he doesn't pull a Maxy and kill all the Orthodox, then he's all right in my book. Hope he knows about the Council of the Fourteen. Or else he's gonna recive a long chat from yours truly. Speaking of, I wonder if, Bishop Alexandros is still hiding out in Rome? If so, he might come along and teach Marky how to speak Greek and the Orthodox teachings. It'd be what Timothy wanted, as long as Clyde don't mind.
With that, he hoisted himself onto the chariot, and made his way westward.

Jason Reaches Tyr-Basiliscus

Postby Terra Equestor » Sat Aug 15, 2015 8:22 am

His Majesty, Jason, King of Macedonia has reached Normandy today after a long journey. But he is not alone, for he has brought Archbishop Alexandros and his protege, Reverend Justinian, to teach the young Markos in the ways of his homeland.
No doubt the boy is baptized into the Catholic, and no doubt both the Regency and the Basilisculians will want him to be confirmed as a Catholic.
Alexandros stated,
But that does not mean that the young boy can't learn about his Orthodox subjects. My protege, Justinian will carry on my work as his adviser in the Council of the Fourteen. I hope His Majesty, King Clyde would forgive this "apostasy" so that Prince Markos will rule kindly and wisely to both Catholic and Orthodox Christians in Illyria.
. The young Orthodox Reverend, who was a decedent of those Orthodox Christians who had fled like many others into Macedonia during the War before the First Crusade.
At first, I thought that King Jason asked me to come along, since I was to become the Royal Chaplain. But being the tutor to the rightful heir of Timothy the Pious...
He crossed himself in the matter of his fellow Orthodox priests, no doubt saying a quick prayer of thanks and a request for wisdom
It would be my honor and pleasure to see an Illyrian King upon the Throne in Equestor, no matter how menial my tasks may be. Not that there isn't anything wrong with the Regents, of course.
The three wait outside of the capital, incognito in order to avoid more zealous Catholics or assasins from killing them.
And also just to avoid the unnecessary pomp.
Jason replied
I'm just a granddaddy going to see his daughter and her family, bringing along his two best friends. Nothin' too fancy about that.
They have sent word to Andromeda, and await the invitation to enter the castle.

King Jason Let Inside

Postby Tyr-Basiliscus » Sat Aug 15, 2015 8:41 am

Terra Equestor wrote:His Majesty, Jason, King of Macedonia has reached Normandy today after a long journey.

Reverend Justinian:
Image

Both King Clyde I and Prince Paul have adressed Jason in their words.
The King said:
Dear Jason, seeing you have arrived in my lands is fantastic, and I hope you like them. Rock Castle, that of Paul and Andromeda, is where you must go to meet your family. Trust me, everyone's very excited about meeting you again. Yes, Markos is Catholic, but I approve of him learning Orthodox ways too.
To rule fairly in Illyria, he must know all his people.

Prince Paul de Rouge adressed the three Macedonians by saying:
Welcome to Tyr-Basiliscus! Having you here is wonderful, and I can't wait to see you in the Rock Castle! Andromeda and little Markos are more than eager of seeing you... so be quick and reach us!
Going to the two priests... I accept them to teach Markos when he is old enough. To rule in Illyria, he must know and respect all cultures present there. We wait to embrace you.

Now, everybody waits for Jason to meet our Prince Paul. We will keep you informed.

Family Reunion

Postby Terra Equestor » Sat Aug 15, 2015 8:56 am

At Rock Castle, King Jason and the two Orthodox Priests entered. There is great merriment all around as King Jason embraced both his daughter and son in law. Little Markos is quick to take a liking to the merry and simple monarch of his homeland, and the family is happy to be together. Alas, King Jason will only be there for a few weeks, but Reverend Justinian will be present to aid Markos's education.
Justinian is younger than I,
Alexandros said
and my duty lies with my homeland. I must see to it that Catholic and Orthodox are united again, and to put the pains of the past behind them.
The two Orthodox priests would converse about the political, religious, and future status of Prince Markos and Illyria as a nation.
I will be staying by Markos's side until my death.
Justinian informed Prince Paul
I would also like to meet the Catholic spiritual adviser of the young Prince, so that way we can settle any issues by the time he is old enough to begin his education. I wish to fulfill my duty as not only the Royal Orthodox Chaplain and as a member of the Council of the Fourteen, but as his spiritual mentor as well.
The two priests also brought with them heirlooms of Timothy, the Royal Signet Ring, the Cloak of the Knight Guardians, and Timothy's personal sword: Emblazon.
While His Majesty enjoys a well earned reunion with his family,
Alexandros continues
We shall represent Illyria abroad, for there is much to discuss. The status of the Council of the Fourteen, the future of the Guardians of the Gospel. It is these troublesome things we must speak with King Clyde about, and let the young
he gestures to Prince Paul, Princess Andromeda, Markos, and King Jason
And the young at heart enjoy life for a change.

After these simply wonderful hours of merry chatting and family reunion, Segentasse, Royal Advisor and Catholic Teacher of Markos de Rouge, arrived.
After Justinian and Alexandros asked to meet him, he was called from Isle of Man Castle, and arrived on horseback with great haste.
He instantly took great liking in the two Greek priests, and they talked amiably for long time. Segentasse said:
Dear Friends,
I am more than please that we shall cooperate for years into the future. Young Markos here needs to grow up properly, and the three of us, I am sure, are perfect for this task.
Still, Justinian, you have to remember that I am no youngster. I am closing in onto the sixties, and sadly my life will eventually finish. In Caen, these days, we are deep in talking about who will succeed me, but for now we still do not know. I will tell you as soon as I can.

We will keep you informed.

To Teach a Prince

Postby Terra Equestor » Sat Aug 15, 2015 9:27 am

After meeting Segentesse of Cean, Alexandros informed the Royal Adviser
It will largely be between you and Justinian. I shall live out the rest of my days making sure there is a kingdom for Markos to rule. I must place the duties of the Council of the Fourteen before my own desires. However Justinian is learned in scripture and sciences, and I have full confidence that Justinian will guide young Markos well.
Justinian proves Alexandros's last statement by asking Segentesse of the current political settings of the kingdom, and how much he knows of Illyria.
Begging your pardon, Lord Segentesse, you are indeed learned from years of expirence. However, your I doubt you have experience of Illyria.
Justinian pointed out
I mean no disrespect to you, but Illyrian Catholics may be different than Basiliscusian Catholics, due to culture and history. If I may be so bold as to request an Illyrian Catholic member of the Council to be your successor? You may go to Illyria, for Markos is still but a babe, and see for yourself what the young Prince shall inherit. That way you may choose the perfect tutor for young Markos. I am also concerned for the safety of Basiliscus, for there are rumors of war between the Romans and the French, I fear for the young Prince's safety as well as that of the Rouge family.

Evolution of Our Culture

Postby Tyr-Basiliscus » Sat Aug 15, 2015 9:46 am

Royal Advisor Segentasse Gives News About Building of Cultural Facilities

King Clyde's Royal Advisor, Segentasse, has given this information in a speech to Caen's citizens which finished twenty hours ago.
In Southern Bretagne, a "cultural city", Marnier, is being built. Here is Segentasse's speech in Caen:
Marnier, in Southern Bretagne, is being built while I speak. This new city will be home to two universities, several libraries, astronomy centers, public debate zones and much much more. The universities, one specialized in Classical and the other in Science studies, will be state-of-the-art, and accessible to anyone of Catholic faith and who earns a place in it.
The libraries, the biggest of the known world, will have hundred of thousands of books, all meticulously hand-written by friars throughout the Known World. Those will be for anyone who wishes to read, and inside there will even by lessons hosted by great scholars of our Kingdom. Renowned scientists and astronomers will use our astronomical centers in Marnier, and our Kingdom will become so cultured and advanced... they will not even have a name for it!

Terra Equestor wrote:After meeting Segentesse of Cean, Alexandros informed the Royal Adviser

Segentasse, fully understanding what Justinian meant, answered very calmly:
Friend, I understand what you mean, and I fully share your feelings. I don't know many Illyrian Catholics, but surely they are different from us. In fact, some very valid candidates for my succession are Illyrian, but as I am sworn to secrecy for now I cannot tell you who they are. Still, you can be sure he will have a valid Illyrian mentor.

Mariner's Allure

Justinian bowed and remarked
I believe there is a city called Mariner, that is to become a center for arts and science. Do you mind if I travel there with you, so that I may take notes in which to fulfill Timothy's dream of Illyria being a Mediterranean center of learning and commerce. Perhaps the young Prince would do well to live there and learn the necessities of governing and living in a culturally diverse city firsthand, if you believe it necessary. In fact, Alexandros and Jason shall leave via Mariner, so as to give them a sense of what is to come.

Friend,

Segentasse continued,
This city, which goes by the name of Marnier, not Mariner, is still being built. Nonetheless, I would greatly enjoy visiting it with you, as I still have to see how the works are getting along.
I am afraid that young Markos and his family will remain living here in the Rock Castle. As you surely know, to ask a knight to move out of his castle is an arduous task, and I believe that Markos should stay in the castle until the age where he will start studying in Marnier.

Now, Segentasse, Alexandros, King Jason and Justinian are travelling to Marnier.

Cultural Exchange

Postby Terra Equestor » Sat Aug 15, 2015 12:32 pm

As Archbishop Alexandros and King Jason bid farewell to the Royal Family, Justinian still has questions for Segentesse
Tell me about yourself.
He asked as the two sat down at a meager tavern
What prompts you to serve Prince Markos, aside from regal command? I wish to know about this country I shall live in until Markos is ready to rule. Let us talk of our countries and how we can help one another

As the days pass, and the little group made up by King Jason, Alexandros, Justinian and Segentasse close in on Marnier. Still, Segentasse and young Justinian have plenty of time to talk.
Segentasse goes on to explain:
I am bonded greatly to this Kingdom, to Clyde, and to Paul and Markos. When Prince Paul was nothing more than a toddler, and I was 36, he had fallen into a rushing river. Queen Caroline and I were the only people present, and without thinking about it twice I jumped in after him, saving his life. Since that day, the bond between us became stronger, and I was elected Royal Advisor.

Segentasse stopped talking for a moment, merrily remembering the days when he, too, was young. Then, he continued:
What about you, Justinian? Tell me something about you!

What about you, Justinian? Tell me something about you!

Justinian sat back and sighed
Its the same thing with myself and King Jason. I am technically Macedonian, having grown up in the court of King Jason, I was descended from those who fled King Leonidas's reign. I was a friend of King Timothy and we were confirmed at around the same time.
he laughed
Maybe "friend" isn't the right word. More like childhood rivals. Nothing too bad, we'd race, spar, and try to out do each other in various ways. We could do anything that the other would do, except court Andromeda, that was apparently the right for another.
Justinian laughed again at the merry times
You might think it strange, a Prince engaging in petty rivalry with a commoner such as myself. I think the reason for it is to show Timothy how to be with the people, and how to take their interests to heart. When Timothy ascended the throne, I was present at the first meetings of the Council, and the Knights Guardians. I truly thought that Timothy would be the people's king.
then he growled darkly
But not everyone agreed with me. Maximilian, may his name be cursed, took advantage of Timothy's mistakes. His Majesty was still human! I can't tell you how horrifying it was. Seeing some of the very people who stood by you betray tou or be marched of to executions. I tried to help as many of my fellow Orthodox and Catholic sympathizers as possible, but I was captured. If Prussia hadn't come in and saved Illyria, I would have been burnt at the stake.
a moment of silence occurred
For my patriotism and bravery, I became the Royal Chaplain of King Jason. Now I am to help the future king of Illyria. Such a heavy responsibility frightens me..

After having listened to Justinian's words, Segentasse sat back down, his eyes intent on staring into the little fire cracking in a corner.
My childhood days were tough ones, too. They were days when Northern France wasn't unified, and Saxons and Picts from Great Britain came down, doing massacre after massacre.
My whole family was murdered by those barbarians, but I managed surviving, probably by the hand of God.
You cannot understand how pleased I am to see, nowadays, that our Kingdom has managed unifying Northern France, and that The Kingdom of Verdmontia has unified Great Britain. Like this, the world is much safer, and barbarians are always blocked before they become a big problem.
How will you help young Markos grow into a good and fair leader?

The Daily News

A speech by King Julius

King Julius, while in the small town of Kent, gave a speech today to both nobles and local farmers and workers.

People of the great city of Kent, for too long has mighty Verdmontia been threatened by hordes of savages, whether they be Nordic or Scot. Despite our efforts for total victory, the savages always escape, despite our efforts for peace, the savages prefer violence. This we must not tolerate, for we have the greatest army in the civilized world, it better be time that we put it to use. People of Kent, my plan is simple, we shall unite all England into a great state forever safe from savages and we shall kill all pagan heretical savages!

Nobles and peasants cheered, as many were eager for both profitable war and for jobs to supplement their incomes. We will keep you informed.

With a sigh Justinian sighed
That I have no idea.

After this response from young Justinian, Segentasse chuckled quietly, surely recalling the days when he, too, had been so insecure.
Dear Lad, don't discourage yourself like this! There is really no need for it. If Jason and Alexandros thought you are the right person to teach Markos, then let me tell you that they are surely correct.
I have great faith in you, and be sure that you will start being more secure in no time!

With an amiable pat on Justinian's back, Segentasse finished up.
