Paula De Luz- "Stephen great game! Do you think with tonight's win the team took a big step forward in this tournament?"

Stephen Monteiro- "Yeah definitely, I think more than anything it shows that the Azorian team came not only to play but to win. It is still very early but it was a big first win."

Paula De Luz- "Let's talk about your performance tonight. You had a few goals and some assists, how would you evaluate your personal performance in tonight's game?"

Stephen De Luz- "I was a little lucky tonight because the goalie for Vermark is very good but you you know, I found ways to get past him and in the end..it worked out in our favor."

Paula De Luz- "Can you talk about the team chemistry?"

Stephen Monteiro- "I think we are going together as a unite with a common goal, and that is to advance far in this tournament. We have had some great works before the WLC and I think that tonight's win showed that the practices have paid off."

Paula De Luz- "Good luck in your next match against Eastkhazia."

Stephen Monteiro- "Thank you"

After the two teams shook hands and exchanged "good game" sentiments, a group of people gathered close to the Vannish bench.

Sarah Oleyson was assigned to handle interviews during the network 'Vannish Sports' telecast of the tournament. Dark, shiny hair framed her youthful face. She was about 5'9 without heels, with the look of an athlete about her. A rather glamourous chocolate brown dress adorned her figure.

Her cameraman was Jay, a stocky, balding cameraman who was shorter than she was. He wore a black Vannish Sports polo shirt and operated a bulky television camera that rested on his shoulder. His right eye was constantly pressed against the rubber cup around the little screen that he used to target and frame shots.

Right now he had Sarah and coach Hootsen in his sights. She had introduced herself and had started asking the coach questions.

"So coach, what was your strategy for Game 1?"

Hootsen looked like he could be Sarah's dad. A lot of Vangazi had similar medium-brown complexions and dark features, a product of the nation's rich ethnic background. He wore a polo with the team's logo.

"We wanted to keep the lines fresh. Instead of subbing out the midfielders one by one, we kept lines together and took them out three at a time. I like our lines. We've got a good mix of vets and younger players. It's just a matter of management."

"The substitution strategy seemed to work well after you took the early lead. But do you think this will work in future games?"

"There are a lot of tough teams. Lacrosse is all about heart. My guys have it, but so do most teams." The coach paused, adjusting the transition lense sunglasses he wore on his nose. "All we can do is our best. We have a plan, we know how to execute. But none of us can tell the future."

"Who was the player of the game in your opinion?"

"We had a lot of goal scorers, Tute... Rubey... Carrs. But this game was about defense. Stevie, the goalie made some nice saves. Big Lars put a lot of pressure on the middle. The other team had to shoot from distance, get it to the X or figure out another way to get shots off."

"Well, are you excited or anxious for the rest of the season?"

The coach laughed. "Definitely anxious."

Sarah smiled, her time was up. She looked into the camera, said a few more words, and passed the broadcast back to the analysts in the studio.

Lance James of the Star United States was in superb form scoring 6 of the team's 9 goals! on the 40' minute mark, Lance skillfully dodged two of Allied Omaha's defenders and finished on the right top corner of the net. QUestion asked from the opposition goalkeeper Easa Javed conceding 9 goals.

Sami Raesh put on an excellent one man army performance scoring two goals and assisting in the other two from team-mate Jason Liondheart. On the 58' minute mark, Sami feinted 3 of the defenders including the goalkeeper and finished into the somewhat empty net.

After a close game, the Warriors fell short of a mere two points. This is a rather disappointing loss to Head Coach Inca Inca. In a brief interview, Inca stated that the team will be instructed longer, harder practices to ensure the team Succeeds at the next game against Vermark, also in Pacari Stadium. With the home field advantage, Inca anticipates a hard-earned victory by the end of the game. Our team concluded an interview with Attacker Vicito Cajo, who feels rather disappointed by the fact that the team lost their first tournament game. However, according to Cajo, the team had communication issues during the game, which had left players rather confused as to game strategy. The team has created a "game plan" for next game, to ensure communication is no issue against Vermark. The SFG News team wishes the Warriors a successful tournament. - Talsheer, Polaris (cap 45,000). Projected tickets sold for every game: 30,000+. Warm climate, depending on the time of day, drink breaks might be needed. Lacrosse is a major sport to Polarians, and they don't care if it's national teams or some third division teams. They will have a good time, even if the game is bad. Banija falls flat in WLC 22 opener; Loses 10-7 to Electrum

Star player Marko Babic getting hit in the 4th quarter of the match

ISTRIA- The Banija national lacrosse team, after managing to put 20,000 fans in their stadium in their first ever WLC home game, fell 10-7 to Electrum. After excitement was running high across Banija for the opening of WLC 22, considering Banija's run to the final of the last tournament in their first ever WLC, they were not able to match the intensity of their opponents, and fell 10-7 to shocked fans at home. This group is known to many as the group of death, as 3 teams made the knockout stages of WLC 21, and while Electrum is a team with plenty of talent, the loss shocked many in Banija, and served as a wake up call to his team.

The Electrum coach, for one, was extremely happy after his team's victory. "Our boys went out in front of a hostile environment, fought with their hearts, and were able to pull off a 10-7 road victory to start off the group stages. There is no better way to start a tournament like this than with a win, and we have done exactly that, on the road here in Istria. These are the type of games that we need to win in order to win the group, and advance in the tournament, as every single team wants to. We were well prepared for what Banija would do, and we responded well and pulled off this victory."

Head Coach Dejan Polek, for one, was not happy after this loss. "I do not know if we got caught up in the festivities of this historic event, or what exactly happened, but unfortunately, we weren't able to play well, and were simply outplayed by Electrum on our own home field. Electrum came in singularly focused on their mission today, which was winning this game, and that is exactly what they did, while we did not have that kind of mental discipline, nor did we have the skill required to pull out the victory at home. While we went into the 4th quarter only down 7-6, those two early goals to open the 4th quarter for Electrum really put the game away for them. We were outplayed, and I will be looking to make whatever changes are necessary to make sure that this doesn't happen again. We have a tough road game ahead of us at Patistan, and I will expect all of my players to be focused and on board for that game, so that we don't repeat the disaster that happened here tonight."

When asked if he would make changes to the starting lineup, he told reporters to wait and see. The most likely candidates to get replaced are on the attack, with very few offensive chances being generated up front outside of Marko Babic, as Vladan Zivko and Arsa Bobbicevic both struggled heavily during their WLC debuts. He confirmed that Marko Babic would be moved to the center from the outside, to allow the offense to be played more through their star player.

Natanians and Nosts' lacrosse team loses 14-9 against Albaie,in itss first game the team is humiliated by other "unknown" team.
The coach gave us hope,but everione knew that it shouldd be hard,and the thinkings were "we'll beat Albaie,at least".

San Llera End Ban On Color Red

In a move that loosens Great Leader Alejandro Llano's firm hold on the people of San Llera, Llano has approved a bill passed by the San Lleran House of Representatives (made up of Llano's family) that ends San Llera's moratorium on the color red.

The widely controversial ban on red has been a staple of San Llera's existence since its establishment from Telsta, though it has almost been repealed constantly since that time. It was enacted immediately upon San Llera's independence by Dorano Trecci, the first president of the nation, in an act of patriotism. Red is one of the national colors of San Llera's neighbors, Telsta and Equatorolio, who also happen to be their fierce enemies. However, Telsta and Equatorolio are no more following their recent annexation into San Llera.

The bill highlighted many inconveniences that the ban of the color created, especially in the areas of trade and medicine. It did not, however, completely allow the use of red. It states that the use of the color shall be permitted "in cases that are not in blatant show of Equatian or Telstian pride."

The new law has met considerable approval from most of the San Lleran population.

"So Lars, take us through the last minute and a half of that game through your eyes." She held a microphone up to to him, stretching her arm. In this day and age of directional microphones, it was really unnecessary. But that logo had to be shone! Vannish Sports

"Well, uhhh." Of course Lars had a booming, gruff voice. We got a key play on our end... Defense. They were making a pass and we simply got between it. Then there was a ground ball.

"The game was 8-7 and you were up by one..." she chided in.

"It was anyone's game. We got the lucky ground ball.. I made a short pass to Mike Swythe. Then he cleared it down to a middie. I saw that middie take off. He was getting stick checked, made a pass off to the side of the goal and the shooter bounced it up and in. I was just glad to have a part in the play."

"What did you think about the coach saying he was anxious about the rest of the games this season?"

"It's warranted. I mean, no team can be underestimated in this league. This was a good team we beat here today." The big farm-bred Vangazi stood with his D-stick at the low ready as if it were some kind of rifle.

"What are you looking forward to the most?"

"I'm looking forward to seeing other stadiums and touring the world. There is a lot to see."

Revamped attack dominates 2nd group stage game as Banija records 12-2 road victory in Patistan

Goalie Allen Van Pierce handles the ball after a save in the 4th quarter

PATISTAN- Marko Babic made the switch from left attack to center attack, with Vladan Zivko moving to the outside, and the change putting the experienced star attacker in the center seemed to make the difference for Banija, as they scored 8 first half goals en route to a dominant 12-2 victory over Patistan. Marko Babic dominated the game and led the Banijan team, scoring a hat trick in the 1st quarter alone, as the Banijan team raced off to a 8-0 lead at halftime. The game was over at that point, so in the second half, Banija went deep into its bench and played them for the entire second half, making it the first WLC game where Dejan Polek was able to play every single player on his roster.

The game started very well for Banija. Marko Babic had two goals within the first 7 minutes of play, and it was clear that Patistan would be overwhelmed by the fierceness and skill of the Banijan attack. Banija had possession of the ball for essentially the entire quarter, and it was due to numerous saves by the Patistan goalie that the game did not get more out of hand in a much quicker fashion. Patistan, a nation without a massive lacrosse culture, had a crowd of around 5,000 show up, though there was a small but loud contingent of Banijans who had traveled from the home country to watch their lacrosse side play. Babic clinched his hat trick at the end of the 1st quarter, with the team's 4th goal to take a 4-0 lead into the second.

The second quarter was more of the same as the first, except Marko Babic wasn't the one scoring goals. The goals were spread around outside of Babic, as Bobbicevic & Zivko each scored one, while team captain Pavle Yankovich scored twice, as they took an 8-0 lead into the half. One could feel almost sorry for Patistan, as it was clear that the rest of the group was way too strong for this team, and that many could not see a possible path for them to qualify for the knockout stages. In fact, some were saying that Patistan might go 0-9 in the tournament, though many pundits viewed that as 'improbable'. Banija then played its bench for the rest of the half, even getting 3rd string goalie Boris Sakota playing time in the last 5 minutes of the 4th.

Banija has a very big upcoming home game against Abanhfleft, who has sole control of 1st place in the group right now following victories over Patistan and Electrum. Banija, 1-1 in group play, knows that they have a big game ahead of them in Istria, and Dejan Polek was all business after the victory over Patistan. "We have achieved a strong victory over Patistan, but like I've said before, we still have a heck of a long way to go in this group stage. We have 7 games remaining, and our next game is a home game against Abanhfleft, who are the current group leaders. Abanhfleft is going to be a tough opponent, and those women are always tough opponents. My boys will be prepared, and we're hoping to continue the good things from this match, and hopefully get our first victory in front of our fans against Abanhfleft."

Pereselenets was the first home stage for the Unionites. It's weird to see a 'Ko-orenite' national team with absolutely zero Ko-orenites on it, but that's how a Union works, and they are competing in our name after all.

The capital of Thaulandi, the richest part of the Union, has been looking forward to this occasion. Ko-oren still is usually the home of all national teams, although there have been a few football (soccer) matches in the past hosted in Thaulandi. As always, a cold wind blew through the grid streets of the city. The stadium was located inside a large mall (or rather, a large mall was built all the way around the stadium) and everything was lit up. In between fans of lacrosse there were the usual schoolkids hanging around the arcades, families trying to get some shopping done now one (or both) parent(s) came home from work. In any case, it was a busy night, and inside the mall it was not much more lit up than outside. It would be a bit romantic to call Pereselenets the city of lights, especially if it is such a cold city, but indeed there was light everywhere. Neon ads, great public buildings, high rise apartments, and further away, the flame stacks from Thaulandi's enormous energy sector (gas and oil, to be precise). And this is why it is a little over the top to call this all the city of lights. Sure, it was light, but not the nice kind of light that earn cities the title 'city of lights'.

Стадион света переселенетсь - Pereselenets Stadium of Light - wasn't a very inviting name, written in the ugly angular Cyrillic script (according to English speaking Thaulandi, that is. The Russian speaking half of the nation calls the Anglophones 'nasal and shrill'), but it still attracted Russophones and Anglophones alike to see the first home Lacrosse game. The results weren't great so far, and the team was still in a building phase, but at least the very first national Lacrosse game was played in Pereselenets, and not in Ansonville (the largest English speaking city of Thaulandi). Even better still, it wasn't played in Aminey, Willowbourne, Castelo da Miradela, Schemerdrecht, Mika, or any of the other hoity-toity and soooo cultural cities in actual Ko-oren.

Viola Eristova, reporter for the Pereselenets Daily Star, tried to meet up with Bruno Caeso North, the attacker for Natanians and Nosts who made the evening a hell for the Unionites, but he declined the interview. Instead, she struck up a conversation with Gheorghe Márcus Álvares, a journalist for the newscast of his nation. He was a busy man, he said, but he would have some time for the Thaulandian press. "I have a lot of contacts within the team, you know, so there isn't too much I can say about the game", he said, "and we are lucky to score two late goals for a win. We do regard your nation of Ko-oren very highly... And did I say some of us say 'Kohoren'?"

Viola answered quickly. "We usually say 'treehuggers' for Ko-orenites. But thanks for the compliment." "I'm sorry, I must go now, I think the cameras are waiting for me."

"So most actually do believe we're in this Union as a Ko-orenite puppet..."

Well we are now two games into the 22nd World Lacrosse Championships, and I must admit that I was sorely disappointed of how we started, losing four to five to the Jeckish Union. I like so many others in the country were hoping for the team to start at least 4-0, but Jim Ule in his first game as head coach did look over what needed to change and how to change it, and I will give him an A+ for his effort of turning around a hard fought loss, into a 15-4 victory.

But after these two games, many are starting to take a hard look at how well the team is playing and question what their daily practices may look like. Well no fear I was given a few weeks ago a one on one interview with Jim Ule and how the national team is to practice:

Hello everyone it's Aaron Sith, and i'm here today at the Newhouse training center where the new national lacrosse team will be training under the guidance of Jim Ule, the new head coach of the lacrosse team.

ME: So Jim, four months ago you were named as the next head coach of WG Lacrosse and now we are only a few weeks away from the next edition of the World Lacrosse Championships. Other than brining home the gold again, what is one of your main goals?

JIM: Well Aaron, our number one goal is to bring home another title, but other than that I am going to work these guys out and want them to understand that we can no longer afford to slip up during the WLC. Since our world title in WLC 18 we have been for in other words a no show. The past teams have be unable to get much done, during the group stage and during the knock out rounds, the furthest we've advanced is only the quarter-finals. In my book that is in-excuseable, we have the largest domestic lacrosse league in the world, which averages the most fans and income. Yet for the past nine years we haven't been able to accomplish much agaist other nations.

ME: You were named as you said after a time of or lack of success. But I along with many others know that during West Guiana's debute appearance in World lacrosse championship 12 you played under Max Le Huey. His death still eight years latter saddens many, and still some can't believe he died so suddenly.

JIM: Max's death hit me very hard, I was close to him, both as a player and as a friend. I see my new position as an opportunity to honor him by making WG Lacrosse great again, and honor his death by making sure his name is never forgotten. I want us so badly to win another title before the 25th WLC edtion, one or two more. I'm so sick of hearing how great and that no one can beat cosumar, that they will win three in a row. I want people to understand that West Guiana will rise above the ashes once more and show the world that we can compete and that we are back.

Jill Birdsong becomes first woman to play for a major Cosumarite national team

History was made early in the second half of Cosumar's MD2 fixture against Nassau-Hessen. After his team scored to take a 10-5 lead, head coach Duke McDougle decided to make a defensive substitution to prevent any chance of a Nassau comeback.

And on came Duversia Death defender Jill Birdsong for her first National Team appearance. What was a first for her was also a first for Cosumarite women everywhere. She is the first woman to represent Cosumar alongside men in one of our country's "Big 4" sports (soccer, gridiron football, basketball and lacrosse) at the senior level. Though Cosumar's domestic sporting leagues have been integrated and divided purely on skill rather than gender for several decades, it has taken until now for one of the fairer sex to gain this recognition of being one of the Fiefdom's very best in their sport.

I, for one, am incredibly proud that it is lacrosse that has finally broken this barrier. You should be too! Hopefully other sports will follow. The Cosumar U21 soccer team already has multiple up-and-coming female talents such as Selena Aliena and Kira Jonassen, so it shouldn't be too much longer before we have Cosumarite women in the World Cup. Perhaps as soon as World Cup 73.

Here's what Jill Birdsong had to say after the game:

"I'm blessed to live in a country where people are assessed purely based on their talent rather than their genitals, where women have the opportunity to compete at the highest levels. I've worked hard to earn my spot on this team and I'm just going to keep going out there and playing the game I love like I've done my whole career. It's a big moment for female athletes, but for me, I just feel like another member of the team, wearing the Cosumarite colors with pride and fighting alongside my countrymen. And hopefully in the future... countrywomen."

Birdsong is currently the only woman on McDougle's roster, though others such as Klyde Guardians attacker Nadine Susselmann and Ramusok Rhinos midfielder Lainey Shalott were invited to the preliminary camps and were among the last cuts. Birdsong was Duversia's Player of the Year last season for her stellar defensive performances that saw Duversia advance all the way to the Silver Cup Finals.

Cosumar rebound from San Llera shocker with win over rival Nassau-Hessen

In a rematch of the WLC 20 Final, Cosumar took down two-time silver medalists Nassau-Hessen by a score of 14-8 before a roaring crowd of 68,000 at CosumaQuest Stadium (of which I am proud to say I was a part).

It was a pretty awesome game. After being shut down by Alfredo Milla, Adam Caleva and a very strong San Llera team to open the tournament, the Dragons came out playing angry in this one. No way the defending champions were going to sink to 0-2!

We dominated the first half, taking a 9-4 lead into halftime. Nassau-Hessen showed their quality by fighting back to draw within two at 10-8, but the Dragons then closed things out with four straight goals to end the game. Malik Nezhad had a career and game-high 5 goals. The young Apes attacker was running all over the Nassau defense all night, outworking just about everyone with his energy. Another youngster, Mitchell McCombs, had an impressive outing with three goals and three assists from midfield. It was both Nezhad and McComb's only second WLC start.

But the real hero of the game was Wesley Hill. Mr. Old Reliable had another heroic performance between the sticks, racking up 12 saves, denying the Nassau attacks left and right. A lesser keeper and this game could've been much closer.

Cosumar's next game will wrap up the first of three legs of the round robin. They will travel to Cornamona to take on the debutants from Welcomzia at Ballyvourney Bridge. The Welcomzians, thought to be a minnow in the group previews, seem like they will actually be a pretty tough team. They beat Nassau-Hessen 10-9 in their debut and are now level with us at 1-1. It's a long group stage this year, but this could be an important game early on.

Based on the overwhelming win for Tyler Landis and the strong totals for Marcus Warrick, it seems like many of you aren't ready to say goodbye to Cosumar's aging defensive core from WLCs past. Sure, Landis probably deserved a chance to three-peat with how great he's been playing for Klyde Guardians, but we have a new generation of fierce young defenders now. It would be a shame not to use them!

Lacrosse was the national sport of Vangaziland, ahead of soccer, futsal and basketball in popularity. There were junior leagues with national team recruiting starting at age 14. To prepare for this, there are U-12 teams. The best ones train with collegiate level coaches. For many, training comes way earlier from their parents.

Lacrosse sticks are popular gifts. Children usually bring them to school. Pick-up games with no or light contact are commonplace. This is why many of the Vannish have skill scooping up ground balls or tend to make more accurate, less over-thrown passes. It's a result of non-contact pickup.

But when high school starts, the physical intensity picks up. On average, Vangazi teens were built with bigger frames than a lot of other nations, a result of their mixed African-Scandinavian heritage. The best teams helped these big kids work on their speed. A lot of Vannish defenders were as big as American Football players.

The top players then moved on to the collegiate leagues. Overglade University had one of the best teams in Vangaziland based on history and the high caliber of players the prestigious college draws with its scholarships. The top national pro teams always counted on Overglade recruits for prospects.

All of Vangaziland's biggest cities had lacrosse teams, to the tune of 20 teams. National team players were from both collegiate and professional leagues unless a tournament demanded one type or the next.

Military service was mandatory in Vangaziland and most of the players served at least some time in a conscript unit. This meant they were regimented by nature. They understood the concept of being modular... interchangeable with one another. They also knew the concept of muscle memory training.

One of their weaknesses in this tournament would be any nation that was in the middle of a warm, humid summer. Vangaziland was a chilly nation, with summer rarely topping 75-80 degrees Fahrenheit and frigid, semi-arctic winters. They all trained for the heat though in various ways.

National league pay was high enough to draw top level players into the pros. National league play came with huge financial bonuses, lots of incentive for the pros to maintain their proficiency and reach for the top.

The system developed reliable, mature players who were in it to win it. Their level showed just how competive and how much much talent was currently surrounding them in the WLC international scene. Every nation entered a team that was just as well-equipped, some even more so.

Carlos Rocha- "Well folks, the boys in blue have pulled out another big win in group four, this time against Pachatiti winning 13-9. Azoria is now 3-0 in group play and have collected all 9 points. They are one of only five teams that are still undefeated. The Azorian people are excited about the national team's success. We had Paula De Luz at the fanzone interviewing a few fans. Lets tune in..."

Paula De Luz- "Hi, what's your name?"

Fan 1- "Hi, I'm Claudia."

PDL- "Hi Claudia, so what did you think about that 13-9 win over Pachatiti?"

Fan 1- "I thought it was awesome! The team is doing so well. I hope they can keep this up!"

PDL- "Okay, lets go over here...Hi sir, I am with ASN. What is the atmosphere like here at the WLC and among Azorian fans?

Fan 2- "Wow..the atmosphere here is great! The Azorian fans are all behind our boys in blue and we can't wait to see how far they're going to go in this tournament."

PDL- "Now, this is Azoria's first WLC. Did you expect them to be doing this well?"

*thinking face* Fan 2- "Uhh yeah, I think so. I have seen the team play in friendly matches leading up to the WLC and they played well. I hope they can keep this up."

PDL- "Great! Well we do too. Have fun!"

Port Thimpodopoulos, Fhulghamous Peninsula
The present day

Port Thimpodopoulos was the quintessential Fleftic colonial town that had grown to become the whole colony's capital. Back in 2008, just a few months after the end of the Holy Catholic Revolution, the site on which the city would be established was mostly marshlands and forests. Seven years later, all those forests had been turned to lumber to build the houses and buildings of Port Thim, as the city's citizens had come to call it. The marshes had been drained to provide for the city's water supply, but that had run out just two years after the establishment of the city, and besides, desalinization plants now bore the brunt of Port Thim's ever-increasing demands for water.

Port Thim was the home of ten million people, most of them colonists who had decided to leave the Democratic Republic for the quiet life in the colonies. Today two of those people were getting married, and they were to be joined in holy matrimony in the Roman Catholic Cathedral of Our Lady of La Naval de Port Thimpodopoulos in a Roman Catholic ceremony.

It was just a small event, with no more than two dozen people attending the event. The small number of people was not because the bride was in the family way; the simple fact was that the bride and groom had only a small circle of friends and acquaintances in Port Thim.

The bride and groom stood at the foot of the altar in front of the priest. They had already exchanged their vows, and only the final part was left to be said. "Do you, Maria Helena Josefina Ignacio, take Timothy Julian Lane as your lawfully wedded husband in sickness and in health, till death do you part, as long as you both shall live?" the priest asked the bride.

"I do," she replied.

The priest then turned to the groom and asked him, "Do you, Timothy Julian Lane, take Maria Helena Josefina Ignacio as your lawfully wedded wife in sickness and in health, till death do you part, as long as you both shall live?"

"I do," the groom said.

The past seven years had been quite the eye opener for Timothy Lane. During those seven years, he had seen that the woman standing before him now, Helen Ignacio, was cut from a different cloth from her cousin Big Johnny Ignacio. Unlike her cousin, Helen was a nice and decent human being, and she had been the first person aside from Tim's family and childhood friends that had treated him like another human being and not just a piece of meat to beat up, bully and rob. And Helen's outgoing personality had served as the perfect foil to Tim's introversion, she being the one that had led him out and introduced themselves to the people in their immediate neighborhood. And love had surely bloomed between them, just as the sun surely rises from the east. The fact that they were both virtually exiles from their respective communities may have helped their relationship along.

Tim turned to look at the small group of people gathered in the church with them. He saw their best man, Selong Mkesi, and the maid of honor, Natalie Traynor, standing to the left of the church. With them was Jaroslaw Veczynski, a tall and pale Pole that stuck out in the mass of brown and tan like a sore thumb. Tim and Helen had been involved in quite a job with those three people, and that job had paid off very well for all of them; fifty million dollars now rested in each of their bank accounts, which had also been established by their employer once they had taken on the job.

"Tim!" Helen said, in a not-too-loud voice. "The priest said you can now kiss me!"

"Huh, what?" Tim blurted out. "Oh, yeah. Of course." A smile crossed his lips as he took Helen in his arms and gave her a big kiss right on the lips. Helen was surprised but nevertheless she returned the kiss with equal measure. The small crowd cheered for the newlyweds, and then Tim made them cheer a little bit harder when he took Helen's waist and kissed her following a small dance and flourish.

Thrown rice greeted the newlyweds as they burst out of the church, which despite being called a cathedral was only big enough to fit three hundred people in hot discomfort. Tim and Helen ran down the stone steps, and then Tim lifted Helen up from her feet and carried her into the car that had been hired for this marriage, with the prerequisite JUST MARRIED sign taped to the back. Tim set Helen gently into the car, and then he got in the driver's seat and drove to the place where they were going to hold their wedding reception. Their guests followed them in various vehicles, making them look like an odd convoy of cars, trucks and even bikes and motorcycles.

Arriving at the restaurant where the wedding reception would be, the newlyweds went about the business of receiving their guests and showing that they were now properly married. They cut the wedding cake, gave each other a bite, kissed when the guests rang their glasses; all in all they were, while it wouldn't be appropriate to call it "going through the motions," going through the reception as fast as humanly possible. The guests, sensing that the newlyweds probably wanted to consummate their marriage as soon as possible, humored the couple and also silently agreed to let the two have their sweet sweet time together.

Finally, the reception was over, and Tim and Helen were finally left alone in their large and spacious home on the shores of Thimpodopoulos Bay. They had bought it using the money they had earned from their "job," and both of them had liked its location and snapped it up immediately as soon as it had become available. Tim once again carried Helen over the threshold and then into the bedroom.

"Ooh, Tim!" Helen said when he laid her down on the bed. "You're very excited about this, aren't you?"

"Yeah," Tim replied. "This is the first time we're gonna be doing this as husband and wife. Don't you like it?"

"Oh, don't like we haven't done this before!"

"I know. Let's get down to business, shall we, Mrs. Lane?"

"Don't you mean fun, Mr. Lane?"

"That's why I love you, Helen," Tim said as he leaned in to kiss Helen, but he ended up landing on top of her. Helen giggled, and Tim caressed her face and neck with kisses.

And of course, just as they were about to get to the really fun part, the phone rang. Tim made much the same observation as he lifted himself up and away from Helen and towards the telephone. "Lane," he said in greeting.

"Tim, is that you? It's Raffy."

All thoughts of setting down the telephone and returning to Helen went out of Tim's mind. "Raffy?" he asked. "Raphael Durant? How did you get this number? And how did you even know it was me?"

Raphael "Raffy" Durant had been one of Tim's few friends in Releinthi State University during his first and only year in the university, one of the few people that did not bully him there. Tim barely remembered that Durant had been the son of a very powerful and influential political dynasty, and that he had plans of going into the Republican Bureau of Investigation after graduating from college. Tim wondered if Raffy Durant was right now in the RBI, and was tracking his call in an effort to catch him. He was still wanted in Abanhfleft itself for the Releinthi State University shooting which left seven people dead.

'That's not what I'm here to talk about, man," Durant replied. "Listen, we really have to get together and talk. I haven't heard from you in seven years, and now I've found you once again, and I'm just overwhelmed. How soon can you get back to Releinthi?"

"Wait a minute, Raffy, man, Releinthi?" Tim asked. "Isn't there any way you can come out here?"

"I've got work," Durant replied almost immediately. A bit too immediately, in Tim's opinion. "I can't get down there to... where are you, Tim? I mean, where in the world are you?"

"I can't really tell you right now because it's a bit complicated," Tim said.

"Oh, okay. I understand, man. Listen, I'm a bit tight on time. We really need to get together, Tim. It's been seven years. I'll be waiting for you in Releinthi. I honestly hope to see you soon, Tim." Then all Tim could hear was the steady hum of the dial tone.

"Tim, who was that?" Helen asked beside him.

"Raffy Durant," Tim replied. "You know him. He wants to talk to me. In Releinthi."

The mention of the city of her birth caused Helen to sit up straight on the bed. "Releinthi?" she repeated. "He doesn't want you to go back, does he?"

"Yes, he does, and I think I know why." Tim sighed and then he continued, "He's with the RBI. I think he's finally found where we are."

"What... is that even possible?" Helen asked.

"Everything's possible with the RBI," Tim said. "They're on the same level as the MSS."

"What are you going to do, Tim? You said it yourself. If Durant's with the RBI, then he wants to take you down once and for all. I know he's your friend and all that, but are you really going to give up to the blues just because of him?"

"Not really, Helen. But I've been giving it some thought. It's been seven years since what happened. We've been on the run for seven years now, Helen. Seven years. Sure, it's a lucky number, but how long will it be until our luck runs out? Besides, I'm tired of running away as well. I think it's time that I faced my fate with dignity. How about you, Helen?"

"I don't know what's gotten into your mind, Tim," Helen finally said after a few moments' thinking, "but if you think you're doing this alone, then you're wrong. We're married now, remember? That means we do everything together. If you're going to Releinthi then i'm going with you. Besides, I'm legally dead. If they see me, they'll think they're seeing a ghost. That means I've got your back whatever happens. How's that sound, Tim?"

"You know, Helen, that's why I love you," Tim replied. "You always think ahead."

"I know, right? Now let's finish what we started before we were so rudely interrupted, Mr. Lane."

"Of course, Mrs. Lane."

Banijan locker room, post-game

Dejan Polek was walking around the room. He was seething after the loss, but that was because of overall frustration over how the group stage in general was going, rather than anger at anything like referees or specific players. Unlike the first WLCs, where his team was relaxed, playing well and freely without the pressure of expectations, this team seemed to be caught up in the pressure. What made it worse was the injury to his best player, Marko Babic. Babic would have to miss the next 3 games with his turf toe injury, and he was not sure how he was supposed to generate offense.

"Guys", he started. "We just lost to a girls lacrosse team." He let it set on them for a while, as the entire team just looked at their hands or at the floor in the locker room. "WE LOST TO A TEAM OF WOMEN!" He screamed. He was frustrated at the way the team was playing, the way they were responding, the way things were going. They were lucky to be in second place in the group, and if they didn't start winning more games, there was no way they would make it out of the group stage.

"And now, Marko's hurt. If anybody thought the group stages would be easy because we did good last time, if it isn't clear to you now that you're wrong, I don't know what to do. Each tournament is different, and the last tournament has no bearing whatsoever on what we're going to be able to do in this tournament. Now, we have the ability to play games at home, in front of our own fans, and because of our success last time, we've had a ton of fans for both fans. But we've found ways to blow them both times, and now we're sitting at 1-2 in the middle of a dogfight. Three games in we are two games and -13 goal difference out of first place, and we're in a 3 way slog for 2nd place in the group."

Dejan Polek paced around the room, and then started again. "We went into the 4th quarter tied at 8 with these girls, and we should have won this game. It was a winnable game, we were the better team, however slightly, for 3 quarters, and we should have had the ability to pull away with a victory in the 4th. Even though that's when Marko got hurt, that's not an excuse to put up a big donut hole and generate 0 offensive pressure for an entire quarter of lacrosse. We did not have the ability to finish, and when it mattered most, in front of our own fans no less, we blew it.

Now, we have our next set of 3 games starting in 2 weeks, and it doesn't matter that we have a player out. We still have our goals, and this is a team sport, not a sport of individuals. Now we have 2 road games against Electrum and Abanhfleft, both teams that we lost to at home, and we have a home game against Patistan, who we just killed. We're going to find a winning combination, work hard in practice to make sure that we play better than we did in our first two home games, because if we continue like we have been through this tournament, we're going to be that team that had a lucky fluke run to the final last year, then follows that up by getting overmatched and blasted in the group stage."

Dejan Polek then calmed down, and faced his players. "Guys, even though we have not started strong, our destiny has not been written yet. We're more than capable of turning this around. We have competed in our two losses, and even though we need to win, it is not like we cannot compete with any of these teams. We need to practice hard and focus on Electrum, because the way this group is going, we are going to need not only one, but multiple big road wins to have a chance at advancing onward to the knockout stages. Get packing, get a good night rest, and we'll be back at the practice facility tomorrow at 11 AM to watch some film. Use these losses to motivate you to work harder in practice, as we work for our goal of winning this tournament."

Dejan Polek then walked out of the locker room, and went to the press conference and drove home. He had a lot of work to do to fix this squad, but he was determined to do whatever it took to get his team out of the group stage and into the knockouts on a good note.

"I think hat we ahve a chance like all other teams,our goal is not to finnish in last and,tahnks to God we're making it,but we must train and train,because if we do not do thst,we will lose."
