Presents, the twenty-second World Lacrosse Championship

For the first time ever the WLC during the knock out rounds will take place in West Guiana, however though during the ten game group stage each team will be afforded the luxury of hosting their opponents in their own home stadiums. The main question of this edition will be, who can finally dethrone the two time defending champions Cosmuar?

New to NS Sports? Welcome aboard! Please feel free to take a look at the Guide to Sports Roleplaying and to ask questions at the General Sports Roleplaying Questions. Also, don't hesitate in sending a telegram if you have any questions or concerns.

Manager: Harlem Mcquinley
Assistant: Muhammad Ali

Starting X
No. Name Age Position Height Weight
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
#1 Easa Javed 26 Goalkeeper 6'7 240 lbs;
Easa Javed is really the Omahan prime goal man, with his 6'7 inch wide, yet atheletic body. He is known as one of the best Lacrosse goalkeepers in Omaha and at the top

of his form at the moment. He will be trying to make his name in Allied Omaha's first competetive Lacrosse tournament.

#2 Fred Patwick 25 Defender 6'1 221 lbs;
Fred is the vice-captain of the team a real solid rock at the back. His previous body building expirience gives a distinct advantage in strength. A real show-stoppper.

#4 Farooq Khan 22 Defender 6'0 201 lbs;
Farooq is a new-comer to Omahan Lacrosse, as he migrates from a outside-world locked village in the center of Omaha. His physical dexterity and mental tactics aree to

be applauded.

#3 Usama Malik(C) 29 Defender 6'0 198 lbs;
Usama Malik is the captain of the Omahan Lacrosse team. He is a shrewd tactician, reading his opponents plays in a heartbeat and intercepting plays from the blue. One

of the most talented players in the squad. His captaincy will be foever remembered as Allied Omaha play there first Lacrosse tournament.

#8 Xhedran Shamiri 25 Midfielder 5'10 189 lbs;
Xhedran Shamiri is known for his long range decisive attempts. Xhedran, 25 is a wildcard, with having no expirience in Lacrosse but his deadly hand-eye co-ordination

and venomous accuracy make him a very important aspect of Omahan Lacrosse.

#7 Sami Raesh 20 Midfielder 5'11 184 lbs;
Sami Raesh is reknown for his luring fakes, and quick turns. He posseses the ability to turn aroind matches in a lightning adrenaline. Nicknamed Blitzkrieg, by the

fans and players. Sami is the best and most decorated player of the Omahan Lacrosse history. His adrenaline can wipe out his opponents like a monster devouring it's

opponent. He assists and scores, both. His scoring streak is also very famous.

#9 Wasi Zaman 23 Midfielder 5'7 175 lbs;
Wasi Zaman has tamed and iincredible talent of pin-point passing ability providing majority of the assists in any game. But this drains out his stamina and has to be

replaced frequently.

#47 Sufwan Khizer 18 Forward 6'2 188 lbs;
Sufwan Khizer was scouted by the manager Harlem McQuinley saying that this boy can become a great star with his "hidden" talent, which is quite unknown.

#10 Farhad Zordar 27 Forward 6'5 234 lbs;
Farhad Zordar was a former boxing chaampion of the heavyweight division, but due to a career ending injury he had to quit. Now, Farhad is going to try his hand at

Lacrosse with his brillint wrist turning abilities. His presence can attract defenders away from his teammate Jason so he can bag the points.

#11 Jason Lionheart 24 Forward 5'5 170 lbs;
Jason Liondheart was a former sprinter recruited by the manager for the Lacrosse team. Jason posseses a record for completeing the 100m in 8.4 seconds. His speed is

umimaginably quick. His turniing at accelaration are at the peak. He scores the majority of the points as he can escape quickly due to his short and verstatile size

DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF ABANHFLEFT
NATIONAL LACROSSE TEAM

This will be Abanhfleft's fourth time participating in the World Lacrosse Championship. For reasons that can be simply summed up as "it's the best thing we've done in a while," the Democratic Republic is sending forth their women's national lacrosse team once again. The women's team, led by the "Fearsome Threesome" of Menan Alrisheb, Fatima Alsambis, and Cecilia Cuvimi, managed to win third place in their first ever tournament WLC XIX, beating the Serbian Empire to nab the bronze from under the veteran nation's noses. This women's team is different from the other women's lacrosse teams, because they are trained in men's lacrosse rules, the reasons why will be explained in the history spoiler below.

The history of lacrosse in Abanhfleft is both long and short, in that it has been in the country for a long time, but a concise summary of said history can be written down in just ten to fifteen sentences or maybe more. Lacross was introduced in Abanhfleft by vacationing Canadian college students and expatriates who missed playing the game. The first truly Fleftic lacrosse players came from association football and field hockey backgrounds, and these players played in seasonal lacrosse clubs to augment their salaries during their respective sports' offseasons. The first national lacrosse league in Abanhfleft was established in 1929, and was composed of 7 teams coming from the Capital Islands. The Fleftic national lacrosse league system adopted its current promotion-and-relegation format in 1951, with the National League (now called the Lacrosse Premier League) at the top of the pyramid. The Fleftic Lacrosse Federation (Flefteikor' Fidourhat'she ob Lakros or FFoL) was established in 1930 to manage the leagues, and to see to the creation of a national team. The Abanhfleft men's national lacrosse team played its first game in 1931, where they lost 1-0 to a team of Montreal college players.

1963 saw the first attempts to introduce women's lacrosse into Abanhfleft. Women's lacrosse had vastly different rules from men's lacrosse, and while these programs saw some success in the mid-sixties, Fleftic women decided that the rules of women's lacrosse were "too soft," and simply adopted the rules of men's lacrosse. When the women's national lacrosse team played its first games in 1969, they surprised many other teams with their extremely aggressive style of play, the likes of which were more usually seen in men's lacrosse games. This led to many incidents of broken legs, broken arms, broken ribs, broken jaws, and so on and so forth. Eventually the FFoL established another women's team, this one focusing on women's lacrosse rules. Teams playing Abanhfleft are well-advised to treat the women like men, because the girls will certainly treat their opponents like Fleftic men.

Lozima is the first ever head coach of the Abanhfleft women's national lacrosse team, a position which has been ironically dominated by men. A noted lacrosse player herself, Lozima definitely knows how the players think on the field and off it. This gives her an edge over many former managers, who were men and therefore had no experience playing women's style lacrosse. The players also have a deep respect of Lozima because of her fame and role in the old silverware-winning national side of old.

Assistant Coach - Tactics: Tim Blyther (41)
Blyther is an Australian who played lacrosse in Abanhfleft's Lacrosse Premier League for almost fifteen years, eventually retiring in 2009 with five championships under his belt. Blyther is also a fan of association football, and was the mastermind of adapting some of that's sports tactics into lacrosse, and this combination of lacrosse and football helped lead the Releinthi Fighting Sticks to three consecutive championships in the Lacrosse Premier League. Being the inventor and innovator of FootCrosse (the combination of football and lacrosse tactics), Blyther was invited by the FFoL to be both national teams' tactics coach, but this will be the first time that FootCrosse will be seen on the world stage, and how Abanhfleft will perform in this tournament will determine the viability of FootCrosse on the international lacrosse scene.

Assistant Coach - Training: Chan Lua (55)
A popular aerobics instructor back in the 1980s, Chan Lua was hired by the FFoL in 2012 for a yearly salary of 2 million new penenks, one of the largest yearly salaries ever in the federation. Lua's job will be to increase and enhance the players' fitness levels. Lua's hiring, which had been a controversial decision at the time, eventually paid off when both national teams' starting lineups lasted much longer on the field than their opponents. Observers keen to gauge this side will look to Lua's contributions to the effectiveness of the national side. In his spare time, when he is not the fitness coach of the Fleftic women's national lacrosse team, he is the fitness coach of the Fhulghamous Peninsula national football team.

Menan Alrisheb (#10) - The star player of the Abanhfleft's women's lacrosse team. She definitely has the makings of a world lacrosse superstar, being in the prime of her playing career. Her talent was spotted at a very early age, being already courted by some of the country's top universities when she was still 11. She eventually went to Malhall State University, which has a critically acclaimed lacrosse varsity program and is incidentally near her hometown of Selid, in Myleikaf state. Alrisheb was then signed by the Bytuch Wyk Hermits (Ladies) at the age of 21. Alrisheb began representing Abanhfleft in 2005, when she was a reserve attacker for the U-18 side. She made her first team debut against Canada in 2009, and she immediately showed signs of her emergence as one of the best lacrosse players of her generations by scoring a goal and assisting in two more in a hard-fought 3-3 draw. She also made waves in the national sports scene when she announced that she was in a relationship with Ibrahim Ahmadinejad, right fielder of the Verbergerkinnh Cubs of the Abanhfleft Major League of Baseball and the men's national baseball team.

Fatima Alsambis (#9) - One of Fleftic sports' greatest success stories. Alsambis was diagnosed with a congenital defect which meant that she had little to no control over her excretory system, leading to her being stuck with diapers her whole life. Most people would have given up the rest of their lives at that, but not Fatima Alsambis. Despite her medical condition, Alsambis strived hard in athletics, and eventually became a skilled lacrosse player. One would think that playing sports, especially lacrosse, would be hard while wearing an adult diaper, but Alsambis made it work. She was signed by the Riuwiee Stateswomen in 2004, and she was called up to the national team soon after. She also shocked the Fleftic sporting world by declaring on national television her eventual love for diapers, along with the declaration that Fleftic football star Luke Edwards had proposed to her after almost 8 years of dating.

Cecilia Cuvimi (#8) - Cuvimi carrries on her shoulders the legacy of the Cuvimi sporting family, begun by her grandfather, Cecil Rhodes Cuvimi, Senior. She started playing for the Bendy Benny Benders (Ladies) in 2004, and was called up to the national team in 2007. Up to this day, she has been inconsistent in her playing style. Sometimes she shows the brilliance that evokes the run-and-gun style of the elder Cuvimis. Other times she plays like a seventeen-year-old reserve player forced up into the first team by injuries to the better players. Cecilia definitely has a lot to prove, and while she has become consistent in her game during the World Lacrosse Championship XIX, there is still room for improvement for her.

Nickname: The Amazons
Colors: All white with blue, orange, and green stripes on the waistline and yellow numbers in a red circle (home kit); all red with yellow letters and numbers (away kit)
Style: Abanhfleft is an attacking team. The legacy of football and hockey players dabbling in lacrosse in its early days in Abanhfleft has resulted in a playing style that emphasizes getting the ball up front for chances to score. This, however, leaves the defense a bit thin, as at least two midfielders join the attackers in forays up to the goal, leaving behind only the defenders and the keeper. The midfield makes up for this by rushing back to their positions as soon as the opponents have acquired the ball.

To be added later

HOME STADIUM
Image
The Imponte Garden in Kammala, Garufaloe Province, home of the Garufaloe Cobras of the FNLAF, will be playing host to the Fleftic national lacrosse team's home matches. It has an official capacity of 51,000 people, and while attendance regularly exceeds that figure thanks to a rabid fanbase for American football, and people prefer to stand up or sit on the stairs whenever capacity is filled, the organizers are not sure if this capacity will be filled for lacrosse matches, as it simply does not have the same pull as American football, association football, or even rugby union.

Banijans do not want the silver medal again in lacrosse

Banija is aiming for a title at the 22nd edition of the World Lacrosse Championships

ISTRIA- With the draw completed for the reformed group stage at the World Lacrosse Championships, Banija is officially preparing for the group stages of the 22nd edition of the World Lacrosse Championships. Banija made their debut in the 21st edition of the World Lacrosse Championships, when they were part of a plethora of nations making their international debuts at lacrosse. It was a tough tournament to get involved in, and they were perceived to get an 'easy' draw in the group stage, with three debuting nations and the #2 lacrosse team in the world, with only a top two place finish needed to get out of the group.

Banija went out and won their opening 2 lacrosse games, and gave a minor shock to the world when they got out of their group with a full 6 points, and clinched a spot in the knockout rounds after only two games. They lost to the group winners Nassau-Hessen, but they would avenge that loss later in the tournament. In the Round of 16, they were able to pull off their first of three major upsets in a row, when they defeated lacrosse powers and WLC 22 hosts New West Guiana by a score of 8-4, and were able to clinch a spot in the quarterfinals of WLC 21. This was when fans really started paying attention to the Banijan lacrosse team, and when Banija showed that they could shock the world.

Banija then was able to go to the quarterfinals and face Nassau-Hessen, who had defeated Banija in the group stages. In what was in many eyes the 'upset of the tournament', Banija was able to beat #2 Nassau-Hessen in the quarterfinals and clinch a spot in the semifinals against the host nation, the Star United States. Banija then proceeded, in the semifinals, to play their best and most complete game of the tournament, dismantling the host nation 13-4 and dominating the game in almost every single aspect from start to finish. They had dominated the semifinal in a way nobody expected them to, and they sent shockwaves throughout the lacrosse world. They went to the final trying to do something that nations simply don't do in tournament with this kind of history- win as a debutant. Unfortunately, the defending champions Cosumar were able to defeat Banija in the final, and defended their hold on the trophy.

With the kind of tournament Banija had last time, the WLC 22 will be an entirely different challenge. Everybody knows exactly what Banija is capable of in lacrosse, and nobody will underestimate Banija. Banija will not come into this tournament as one of many debutant nations- rather, Banija will enter this tournament as one of the favorites to win it. Teams will be preparing for Banija, Banija will be the big game for every team in this group, because Banija is trying to establish itself as a lacrosse powerhouse. And yet, at the same time, Banija got all the way to the final in the last tournament, and lost to the now two-time defending champion Cosumar. Banija will have the hunger, and the drive, to get all the way back to the final, and win it this time.

The road to the final for this tournament, if not tougher, will certainly be a lot longer. In the last tournament, Banija was fortunate to have what many called the easiest group in the tournament, but that will certainly not be the case this year. This year, Banija has been drawn to group 7, where three teams(Banija, Abanhfledt, and Electrum) all made it to the knockout stage of the 21st WLCs. The competition in this group will be fierce, as one of those three teams is guaranteed to be knocked out in the group stage, and nobody wants to be that team that makes out of the group one tournament, and then gets knocked out in the group stages the next. Banija is emerging as the early, but slight, favorite to win the group, but the group will be wide open as the group stage is much longer this year.

To add excitement to the tournament, the organizers decided to make the group stage a home & away affair, and then all teams that make the knockout stages will converge on New West Guiana for the knockouts. Banija got lucky with the draw this year, since they are in a 4 team group, and they will have a triple round robin, playing each team three times, while getting 5 home games and 4 away games. With 9 games in the group stage, it won't be luck taking anybody to the knockouts; it'll have to be the best teams who are capable of getting through playing teams three teams, and who are able to best get through that storm. Banija has rented out Istria City field from tier-2 soccer side Istria City Football Club, and will play its home games in the capitol.

Their schedule has been released, and they will start with a game against Electrum, who were able to get out of the group stages of the 21st WLCs. At this game, they will honor Xavier Grobbel, the man who captained the Banijan team in the last edition of this tournament. He will flip the coin at the coin toss, and there are rumors that His Majesty King Matthias will be in attendance at the game for a short while. We'll see how Banija does at that game, but we expect the team, behind star player Marko Babic, to be able to pull out a 13-10 victory over Electrum to open up the tournament.

The Rundown

The twenty-second World Lacrosse Championships are almost here at last, it has been the top subject for numerous debates and arguments for the last three years. The top debate has been, what has happened to West Guiana lacrosse, since winning the 18th championship it has seemed like WG lacrosse couldn't get their act together. Todd Kemson was fired after three disappointing editions in a row which saw the team eliminated in the first round of the knock out stages, and not even advancing one edition after winning it all. The question remained until six months ago who would be the next head coach for the national team, the answer was Newhouse Animals coach Jim Ule.

The man who for the past eight years has been the head of the Animals, who during the regular season has stomped on their opponents, but falling flat all too often during the playoffs. But if WG Lacrosse believes that he can work things out with the national team, then he must be the one that will lead the team back to the promise land. But first the team must get through nine matches, three times the amount the fans and players have been use to since the 14th edition.

Sizing up the competition

Star United States For many years the SUS team has been a force, however despite this they haven't been able to get things going when it matted most, during the knock out rounds, some how each time they've made an appearance unable to at lest medal. In this group we must beat them at least twice if we want to win the group and get a higher seed come the round of sixteen. My prediction for the group stage: WLW

The Jeckish Union They have been around for some time, at least the Jecklandian, the Union is newer and unknown to me, i'm not sure if they are the predecessors of Jeckland or not. If they are they can not be over looked, Jeckland during their time in the WLC showed that they can put on a show, but all too often the only show they were putting on their own. Prediction: WWL

Allied Omaha New comers that they are, but none the less fierce opponents that they will be, Banija in the last edition showed that new comers can light up the night and they almost won it all in their debute. Allied Omaha, I haven't much facts about, but Jim Ule should treed carefully if he doesn't want to look like a fool and losing to them. Prediction: WWW

Overall I fully believe that West Guiana will do very well and end 7-2, getting at least the second of fourth seed in the next round. But if they do make it through to the round of sixteen one thing that I can guarantee is that the stadiums will be filled with loyal fans, as for the first time ever the World Lacrosse Championships will be for the knock-out rounds played on home soil. What would it be if the team won on home soil, becoming the fourth to do so.

World Lacrosse Championships

For the first time in Albaie lacrosse history, Albaie will be sending a team to the World Championship. This follows an outcry from lacrosse fans that Albaie was not bothering to send a team to the tournament in previous editions. Lacrosse is the 7th largest of all sports in Albaie after Association Football, Gaelic Football, Tennis, Hurling and Rugby with 18,401,495 participants mainly among the upper class youth and has no professional sports league or formalized adult playing league with the Albaie league system being different in the various parts of the Imperium. The team will be headed by Sir Walter Byrne who is also the Head of the Albaie Lacrosse Federation and was knighted as a Knight of the Imperial Order for his services to the sport.

The Imperial Ministerial Department of Sport announced that after the performance of the Imperial National Football Team in getting to the Cup of Harmony they were receiving double the funding they received last year and that money would be getting spread through the various sports of Albaie so eventually all the national teams could make as much an impact as that of the football team. With their share of this funding the Albaie Lacrosse Federation decided to gather a team of the best players from throughout the Imperium and send them to the World Lacrosse Championships in the hope of gaining more fans and more funding so they can move towards their eventual goal of having a nationwide league like the Imperial Football and Imperial Gaelic Football leagues.

The team will also contain a coaching staff including Jonathan Scott and Simon Layton the head coaches of the Imperial Military Academy and Dubrack's Town University Lacrosse team's respectively with both considered among the best Lacrosse coaches in the Imperium. The team will also be taking Ellie Fynn with them as the team's physiotherapist after she recently got her doctorate in physiotherapy from Dubrack's Town University. The team will be playing at the multi-purpose stadium Dubrack Field with the 10,000 stadium hosting it's first international lacrosse games just the same as Albaie sends forth her first ever international lacrosse team.

First Person Point of View
Sami Raesh, Midfielder, Age; 20, Height; 5'11

I turned on the TV and flipped onto my VIP couch. It was time for the Group drafts for the World Lacrosse Championships 22. This was going to be the first time Allied Omaha were gonna participate in the WLC. Lacrosse is a young sport in Allied Omaha. It's growing steadily among the kids too. I read in an article that Lacrosse academies have almost tripled in Allied Omaha over the last 2 years. The growth is fast and steady, and now finally Omaha is going to participate in a competitive international Lacrosse tournament.

I have been playing Lacrosse since I was 11. I had knack for it and picked it up like I've been doing it all my life. I was always like this, they say. Always learning new things and mastering them. I was totally into sports. Football is most popular in the majority of Omaha, and the introduction of a National Lacrosse Team was very unexpected. Omaha didn't even give a penny to the Lacrosse Federation's budget and so they were bankrupt for the last 4 years.

It was now, that under the government of Caliph Suleyman that the Lacrosse Federation had received 200,000 Atoms a month. The amount was fair and just. The Lacrosse federation were more than happy to this sudden interest. After all, the Omahan economy has rose above it's recent low standards. The monthly pay for an average athlete is more than attractive for young sportsmen and women. The majority of the working class was employed in the Armed Forces of Allied Omaha, but that has changed in less than a decade.

Sports is becoming a way out and a way in for young people.

I happen to be one of them.

I watched the Group Draw carefully, escaping from my thoughts.

"Group One,"the announcer said. "United States Of Devonta, The Sword Bloke, The Serbian Empire, Frenline Delpha and last but not the least Namber." The announcer finished.

The group wasn't that hard. Although Devonta, The Sword Bloke and Frenline Delpha are major opponents, it would only be the amount of pressure and the will to win that would make a difference.

"Group Two, Coreyo, Kaboomlandia, Swibia and Omerica."
A tough one for the newcomers I guess. Coreyo are well experienced and would cruise there way to the top, I believe.

"Group Three, Star United States, The Jeckish Union, West Guiana and debutants Allied Omaha." The announcer finished.
The struggle is real now. We have drafted in one of the most dreadful strong groups. West Guiana, SUS and The Jeckish Union are a force to reckon with. All of them are strong, experienced and have a great coach on there side. The odds are certainly against us. But we cannot certainly let our hopes die. The odds may be against us, but we will give everything we have on each opportunity that we have. Billions of Omahan's are counting on us to give them at-least Round of Sixteen glory, and that is our target. Hopefully all the others have the same ambitions.

Ring-Ring-Ring!

The phone rang. I stretched to pick it up.

"Assalam-O-Alikum, Sami! How are you?"The voice said.

"Wa Ly Kum Assalam! Alhamdulilah(Thank God), I am fine. Did you see the group draw, Usama?"Usama was the captain of the squad. A great player all around.

"I wouldn't miss it for the world. We've been drafted in Group 3, with the big dogs. It's gonna be a real challenge."

"Yes, all of the other three teams are excellent opponents. We must not let our guard down."

"That's my job to make sure that doesn't happen."

"No doubt, it is."

"See you tomorrow then."

"Inshaallah(If Allah Wills)"

WLC News in Azoria

Postby The Isles of Azoria » Sat Jul 25, 2015 9:37 am

"Now we will turn over to Carlos Rocha with tonight's big headline here at ASN, the World Lacrosse Championship journey for our Goshawks." Camera turns to Carlos Rocha...

News Anchor Carlos Rocha- "The Azorian National Lacrosse team is set to begin its journey in the 22nd World Lacrosse Championships. This is the team's first appearance and they look to make a splash. Ahead of Azoria's first game against Vermark, head coach Almeida is set to speak exclusively to the ASN (Azorian Sports Network), sharing his thoughts on everything from Azorian star Stephen Monteiro to all of Azoria's opponents this summer. We have Paula De Luz at the WLC for full coverage and interaction with the Goshawks. Let's tune in now for her interview with head coach Robert Almeida."

Paula De Luz- "Thank you Carlos...The first objective for Portugal is to qualify for the knockouts. Is there room to think beyond that or is this the only focus at the moment?"

Robert Almeida- " The goal to advance out of the group stage is what we have at the moment. First, we are focused on the group stage games and we want to fight for qualification, despite the difficulties that we know we will find against these opponents. Then, if we progress, we will move on to another objective."

Paula De Luz- "Do you think there will be even greater pressure on Monteiro, looking at what he has achieved this season in an overseas league and being the captain of the Azorian national team?

Robert Almeida- "It is definitely good news that all the Azorian players who are playing abroad can achieve the objectives at their clubs. I do not think there will be more pressure on Monteiro. On the contrary: we don't ask Stephen to solve all the problems of the national team. These issues must be solved by the team as a whole and the better the team is, the better the conditions are for the individual players to shine, like Stephen."

Paula De Luz- "You spoke recently about the importance of the first game, considering it is the first WLC that the Isles of Azoria are participating in. What do you expect from this game and what are the strengths of this Vermark team?

Robert Almeida- "I expect a very difficult game, against a team that has few weaknesses. I think the strongest part among the many strengths that Vermark have is the transition from defense to attack, but is we stick to our game and what we do best..we'll be fine"

Paula De Luz nods at coach Almeida and turns back to camera center...."There you have it, Coach Almeida is ready and so are the Goshawks. Azoria's first game is against Vermark and they will be playing in Group 4...back to you Carlos in the studio."
