If EQS doesn't show up, top two second-placers advance and playoffs are reseeded, I guess.

I thought I might summarise one way the Electrum-Eura-Sargossa-Valladares RP storyline could've gone this cycle. Cluck cluck.

I also hope that special precautions are taken to ensure that San Jose Guayabal and Gregoryisnotgodistan are not drawn together.

San Llera wrote:Say EQS doesn't show up and doesn't get their World Cup spot.

What if the 128 teams that didn't qualify play a single-elimination tournament to determine who gets that spot?

All I can say is that when this situation came up in WC16, when one of the co-hosts (Brazillico) vanished, they kept their spot, but the other co-host hosted and scorinated all the games (except their own games, of course).

Now this was more than a decade ago and I’ve only been around this part of the forums since WC69, so I obviously don’t know if there is a more recent precedent, something someone more versed in World Cup history would have to point out. The only reason I know about the hosting of WC16 is because I was furiously the Jolt archives searching for the post where the Water Cooler withdrew from World Cup qualifying after Krytenia mentioned it, which I just so happened to have found.

Stellonia wrote:I also hope that special precautions are taken to ensure that San Jose Guayabal and Gregoryisnotgodistan are not drawn together.

Given that the World Cup is taking place at a neutral site for both teams, I don’t see why the two would be kept apart in the draw.

That's not how it works. While the draw is typically rigged to ensure that host puppets play in the same nation as the host (for OOC reasons), the draw is not rigged otherwise. If they end up in different pots (and the pots are based upon the rankings, though the hosts are usually in Pot 1), then they have a 1-in-8 chance of being drawn into the same group. Thus, both the HRE and Saintland (and maybe SJG as well) will have a 1-in-8 chance of playing Gregoryisgodistan in the group stage nor would it be the first time that any of those nations were drawn against an opponent whom they have hostile IC relations with in a WCC tournament.

As the people on IRC know, but as an experiment, I ran two scorinations throughout the qualifiers, one with NSFS as the official and the other with SQIS, using the same RP bonus and modifiers, to compare the two. I think the results speak for themselves and why I prefere NSFS, though both are flawed creations as I said a few days ago.

Due to Valanora's successful scorination of the World Cup Qualifiers on her own, I would like to repropose an amendment to the Constitution in Subsection 2.3.2, regarding hosting of the World Cup.

World Cup Committee Constitution wrote:2.3.2 Hosting
i) Any nation that has previously participated in a World Cup, and participated in its most recently completed edition, may bid to host the World Cup, except if the user has co-hosted the previous World Cup.
ii) Two-host bids are the preferred format, though any number of hosts are acceptable.
iii) The WCC will be directed by the President to vote: a) for one of the offered bids, b) to officially abstain, or c) to re-open the process for new bids.
iv) Friendlies are not the responsibility of the hosts beyond basic organisation. Co-hosts may not include as part of their proposal any information on the organisation of friendlies, nor may they answer questions on friendly organisation. Co-hosts may choose to start a thread for friendly organisation, may choose to schedule slots in World Cup qualification for friendlies, and may limit the number of friendlies; but there is no presumption that co-hosts will scorinate any friendly matches, and nations holding friendlies should assume that they are responsible for arranging their own friendly scorination unless otherwise specified.[/blocktext]

Obviously, the WCC will prefer that two nations bid, but I do not see the problem in users such as Valanora, Krytenia, Saintland/FFR hosting the World Cup on their own.

Obviously this amendment has the seconds it needs, and it is directly related to the next bidding cycle. So, if someone wants to do up a little EWCC Proposal to remove EQS as host from this cycle and give Valanora all deserved recognition, then I'll run them both as a super extra bonus little vote.

Well, at least for Group 11, the results after using SQUIS look a lot closer to the pre-contest rankings: Not enough variation from "highest-ranked team wins" for your liking?

I think that this has probably been the Bears' very worst qualifying campaign so far.

I am honestly a bit baffled that you're declaring victory here, ESF.

You've said on IRC regularly that too many top-20 nations were missing out on the Finals in the SQIS sim. I count one: Vilita, who (with no disrespect to one of the greatest nations in the history of this game) only started roleplaying after Matchday 10 when it became clear KPB-coasting to qualification was possibly not going to work.

In both the sims, seven first-seeded nations finished second and had to go to a playoff. In both the sims, four of the seven nations that beat out the top seed for the top position RPed more.

Sure, in the SQIS sim Starblaydia finished top of his group by sheer dumb luck and Yttribia got screwed, but in the NSFS sim Krytenia came from nowhere (with a far lower KPB than Star, I might add) and also finished top, and Cosumar needs no reminding what happened.

I don't think the results speak for themselves. At all.
But he was wrong. It was he who was the traitor, he the dictator, he the true tyrant. As I leapt atop my broom, I could already hear the wailing of the merpeople from the depths; their last shred of dignity, the last remnant of their kingdom, their last symbol of hope; raped by the tyrannical humans.

I appreciate the sentiment, but my RPing after MD10 (if that is indeed when it started, i thought i had at least one up before that) had nothing to do with qualification or not qualification, its simply when i was available to dedicate time to RPs.

This is only a game after all, and everyone should remember that whenever coming into the WCDT and making heated posts, accusations, arguments or anything similar. We are all wasting hours, days, years of our lives playing a game. Well, its wasted if you let it affect you in a negative way. If you want it to be worthwhile, just have fun with it. If you like writing, find something you want to write about. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. Trust me, after 11 years here, I know both ends of the spectrum to the Nth degree. I'm not still here because I need my fictional nation to qualify for the World Cup finals, or to win them at that. While its always nice, the beauty about this game we play is it never truly ends. As I've found many, many times throughout the years, losing can give just as many opportunities to have fun and spark creativity as winning can.

So, just everyone, take it one notch back and enjoy it a little more - no matter what the result.

Clearly the solution is for everyone to describe their thoughts about scorination in the current tournament via the medium of classical oratorio....

Not "simmering", honest question about the host's reason for preferring the other scorinator.
