Allanean Arms Icarus Driverless Bus
As Allanean Arms continues to struggle for its top spot as the largest exporter of vehicles and weaponry in Allanea, part of this struggle has been to introduce not only new models of vehicles, but also to open itself to entirely new types of products. For example, though Allanean Arms had rarely produced mass-transit vehicles before, its new offering for the world is the Icarus-series driverless bus.
The Icarus bus combines several novel technologies.
[b]DRIVERLESS: The primary technological advantage deployed within the Icarus bus is, obviously, the lack of a driver. The Icarus bus propels itself along a pre-programmed route, picks up passengers at stations, and stops at stations (based on passengers pressing a STOP button, quite similarly to that function on regular buses). This allows the bus to be operated 24/7 without any expenses on driver salaries, with pauses needed only to recharge the onboard battery and to maintain the bus. Naturally, this is much safer than a driver-operated bus.
EMISSION-FREE: The bus operates using an electric battery, which is recharged by induction at the bus terminal (the charging takes up to 60 minutes for a full charge using a 300KW charging input). While of course greenhouse gas emissions are still generated at the power plant where the electricity is produced, the bus itself is emission-free, allowing the user to reduce air pollution in the cities where the buses are deployed. (And if you use atomic power, you can of course be proudly emission free through the entire use-cycle of the bus!)
WI-FI AND USB: The bus is equipped both with a wi-fi router (allowing for high-speed Internet access for the passengers’ devices) and USB plugs (one per seat), allowing users to charge their own devices while using the bus.
AIR CONDITIONING AND HEATING: The Icarus driverless bus is fully climate-controlled, allowing for an air temperature ranging from 16-20 degrees Celsius at all times (typically 16-17 degrees in the summer and 20 degrees in the winter.)
SAVINGS: Over a 12-year life-cycle, the electric bus is expected to save its operator about $600,000 in fuel costs and $135,000 in maintenance costs - greater efficiency, less moving parts, and energy-efficienciesf the equivalent of 21 miles per gallon (the average diesel bus does 3 miles per gallon!) mean savings for you and your passengers.
