The Zeus Defense Industries AH-30 Scorpion is a twin-seat attack helicopter manufactured by Zeus Defense Industries and its partner companies for the project, including Kronos Inc. Although primarily designed as a high-tier attack helicopter, the AH-30 can fill reconnaissance roles as well. Although not really made for air-to-air combat, it remains capable to take out air-to-air combat missions if needed, allowing it to take it against other helicopters and low-speed aircraft. It bears similarities to the Kamov Ka-52 'Alligator' in terms of design, as engineers from Zeus Defense Industries were sent to Kamov for cooperation of the development of the AH-30 Scorpion.

Similar to the Kamov Ka-52K, the AH-30 Scorpion features a coaxial rotor system, a feature unusual in most helicopters. This design characteristic enables the AH-30 Scorpion to achieve greater lift for the same thrust, though some complication of the rotor part was needed to some extent. The AH-30's design has put an emphasis to sensors, armament and versatility: as a result, its armament capability is considered to be greater than most attack helicopters currently in service.

The AH-30 Scorpion, since entering service in the Federal Eastern Union Defense Forces in 1999, has seen several advancements in various fields: though many of them were experimental, later variants featured greater sensors and avionics, better armament, better thrust and several other advancements over time. This eventually resulted in the development of some of the most advanced attack helicopters in the world - the AH-30M Scorpion and the AH-30S Blue Scorpion.

Variants

  • Operational Variants

    • AH-30B: Experimental Tandem-Seat variant.
    • AH-30C: Prologue of the AH-30S program. Only one unit built.
