What is the last movie you've seen? Part 2

Postby Corrian » Mon Jun 29, 2015 9:28 pm

So, it took 5 years for the last thread to end, but it was popular enough that I figure we might as well make a new one. 100 pages a year isn't really that bad of an amount.

So here it is, the 2nd version of this thread (pretty sure I didn't see any others posted)

I think the last one I watched is still Mad Max...

At home: Penguins of Madagascar. It was very funny.
At cinema: Terminator Genisys. It's not exactly bad, but it's not good either.

Far from the madding crowd - the 1969 version with Julie Christie , Alan Bates, Peter Finch, and Terrence Stamp. Looks good (probably because Nic Roeg did the photography) and sticks closely to the book.

My one problem with it (and the book) is that I have never understood the motivation behind Bathsheba's behaviour. Not sure if that is just me not understanding female psychology or perhaps the problem is that Thomas Hardy didn't.

Last thing I saw her in was the Lifetime series The Witches of East End. She plays the mother of Rachel Boston and Jenna Dewan-Tatum. I think it's still an active show, though currently on hiatus.

Saw Jurassic World opening weekend, probably my second favorite of the series.

Saw Spy the week before that, it was a decent movie.

Saw Ted 2 last weekend, and it was as expected. Good humour in parts.

I did some searches last night and I saw that she has pretty much remained involved in humanitarian causes like preventing trafficking and slave trading and in the small screen, with the show you mentioned and a stint in one of the Law and Order shows.

Just watched Nocturna.

I did not know she was involved in that. Pretty noble cause, but I had no idea anyone was involved in activism in that area.

He had a TV show within the last five years that flopped horribly. Don't remember the name, just that Larry David made a brief appearance in it and it was terribly unfunny.

Akira Kurosawa's "Throne of Blood", Shakespeare's Macbeth adapted as a Samurai film.

One very amazing death scene in the movie. Especially amazing when you read about how it was filmed.

Slavery is still pretty much a thing in places like Bangladesh and Indonesia. Among the poor, it isn't uncommon to sell their child daughters into servitude.

Tried watching Extract but gave up after about ten minutes as I was finding it irritating rather than funny.

Then watched one of Arnie's more recent films, directed by a Korean director. It was a competent, b movie action film, but not exactly memorable - I have already forgotten the title.

I knew it was still a thing, I just didn't know there was any organized activism relating to it. Good to know it's not just being allowed to continue unprotested. My respect level for Julia Ormond's certainly gone up a bit.

Rewatched my favorite movie of the previous year, The Raid 2. It still holds up against most of the movies I've really loved so far this year, although my two favorites of 2015 so far -- Kingsman and Tomorrowland -- match it in terms of quality.
