Leagues and Formats
Leagues

There are 20 leagues with Union-wide participation, in 19 different sports. All teams in these 20 leagues (329 in total) are fully professional and attract at least 5,000 in attendance per event on average across a season. These leagues are all the major leagues in the Union. There are obviously more successful leagues in the Union, but those consist of just teams from one nation, or do not attract 5,000 spectators per event, or, in most cases, are minor leagues to the 20 leagues here.

All teams are operated on a franchise basis, however the location of teams is locked. As an example: there are four teams from Ko-oren in basketball, and that means that even though the league can change these teams to a large extent, there will always be four Ko-orenite teams in the basketball league.

Formats

Association Football

28 total teams, in two seperate leagues of 14 each: Soccer North and Soccer South. They play each other twice a season, with one huge open cup to all teams in the Union (with preliminaries per nation) that involves both Northern and Southern teams. At the end of the season, there is a cup winners' cup system in place, involving the cup winner, both leagues' champions, and the winner of a match between the runners up from each league.

Soccer North: 6 teams from Ko-oren, 1 from Polaris, 5 from Thaulandi, 1 from the Wolf Islands, 1 from Zakhozan.

Soccer South: 1 from Fern, 3 from Kang Rao, 1 from Milyu, 4 from the Nine Sisters, 2 from Protea, 2 from Santa Teresa, 1 from the Six Saints.

Gridiron Football

32 total teams. Four conferences of 8 teams each. Each team plays the other teams from their conference once (7 games). Now the league will be realigned into divisions based on placing in the conferences, with four groups of eight teams each (1 conference winner, 1 conference runner-up, 1 conference 3rd place, etc.) and they will play each other once each (7 games). That means each division has 2 teams from every conference. Lastly, after the division round, the remaining 3 games of the season consists of 8 groups of 4 teams. Each group either has the 1-4-5-8th placed teams from a division, or the 2-3-6-7th placed teams.

For the playoffs, the eight group winners and the 4 best runners-up qualify. In round 1, the 4 runners-up play the 4 worst group winners. In round 2, the 4 best group winners play the round 1 survivors. In round 3, there are just 4 teams left. Round 4 is the final.

Before the first playoff round, there is an off week with four special games: the No. 32 versus the No. 31 based on results from the entire season, the Ko-oren's Bowl with the two best Ko-orenite teams that missed the playoffs, the Thaulandian Bowl with the two best Thaulandian teams not in the playoffs and the same for the Nine Sisters in the Nine Sisters' Bowl.

Before the final, there is the Selenitic Bowl with players picked from each non-playoff team.

Thaulandian Division: 8 teams from Thaulandi.
Ko-orenite Division: 6 teams from Ko-oren, 1 from the Dragonfly Islands and 1 from the Wolf Islands.
Eastern Division: 4 teams from the Nine Sisters, 2 from the Six Saints and 2 from Zakhozan.
Western Division: 5 teams from Thaulandi, 1 from Dendronesia, 1 from Kang Rao and 1 from Waratah.

Rugby Union and Rugby League

Rugby Union: 22 teams total: each team plays every other team once and then plays six random opponents. The top four teams make the finals.

Rugby League: 20 teams total, in four conferences of five teams each. Each team plays each other team once (19 games) and each conference team another two times (+8=27 games). Every conference-topping team makes the finals.

Baseball and Cricket

Baseball: 26 teams total, divided into two conferences of 13 teams each. Every team plays the 12 other teams in their conference nine times for 108 games, and then plays every single other team twice for 50 games. After 158 games, the top four teams on each conference make the finals.

Cricket (T20): Each of the 14 teams play each other once.

Cricket (ODI): All nations have their own team (some nations have combined teams: the Six Saints and Santa Teresa play together, for instance) for a total of 10 teams. All teams play each other once for the ODI standings.

Cricket (Test): There two ways to play Test cricket in the Union: the Crux Classics and the unscheduled matches.

The Crux Classic is contested between Waratah, Fern, Protea and Milyu, each playing each other once.
Unscheduled matches are played between other teams such as Ko-oren, Irisia & Arhoria and Dendronesia & Seiranesia.

Basketball

Each of the 28 teams plays each other three times for 81 games total. The top eight meet each other in the playoffs.

Ice Hockey and Field Hockey

Ice Hockey: The 12 Thaulandian teams play each other four times (44 games), and the teams from the other member nations (6 from Nine Sisters, 2 from Ko-oren, 3 from Zakhozan and 1 from Wolf Islands) play each other four times (44 games). Three teams from Thaulandi qualify, three teams from the other four member nations qualify for the playoffs.

Field Hockey: There are 20 teams in three conferences. There they play between 18 and 20 games, and the top two from each conference qualify for the playoffs, together with the third placed teams in the Crux conference and the Ko-oren conference. The Crux conference has seven teams from Waratah, Fern, Protea, Kang Rao and Milyu. The Ko-oren conference has seven teams from Ko-oren, Dragonfly and Wolf Islands. The other conference has six teams from Nine Sisters, Santa Teresa and Thaulandi.

Waratah Rules Football (*Australian Rules Football)

Each of the 10 teams play each other three times, for 27 games per team total. The top four qualify for the finals.

Gaelic Football and Hurling

Both sports have the same format: each of the 10 teams play each other team once for a total of 9 games. The top four play in the finals after that, while the remaining six teams play their own set of playoffs (for no particular gain).

Handball

Each of the 20 teams play each other once. Then there will be a five day Casaran stage for a total of 24 games per team. The top 8 go to the playoffs.

Lacrosse

There are 18 teams total. Nine are from Thaulandi, and they will play each other three
times for a total of 24 games. The other teams (from Ko-oren, Nine Sisters, Polaris) will
play each other three times for 24 games too. Teams from the two conferences meet in the playoffs, where four from each conference will play.

Ko-orenite Football

Ko-orenite Football has been professionalised with 10 professional teams, with players pulled from local leagues in each team's jurisdiction. Each team plays each other twice.

Bandy
There are 12 teams total, each playing each other twice.

Autosports
There are two organised professional autosports competitions: Open Wheel and Rally.

Open Wheel (Formula racing) has six teams with two drivers each, taking each other on across 10 races around the year.

Rally has eight teams with three drivers each, on 10 courses around the year.

Road Cycling
11 teams with 10 cyclists each compete in the annual Round of Ko-oren, which has, for decades, also been held on other landmasses other than Ko-oren.

Athletics, Tennis, Archery, Water Sports, Table Tennis, Martial Arts, Volleyball

These sports all have their own annual or bi-annual tournament organised for players from around the Union in an Olympics-style tournament.

It is an archipelago comprised of several dozens of inhabited islands. Many of these islands are so close together that there are multiple bridges between them, and the city of Tanabe is located on top of ten of these small islands.

The largest sports on Dendronesia are Gridiron Football and Association Football. Its friendly rival is Seiranesia, the other far western Union member state.

Dragonfly Islands
The Dragonfly Islands, which is also the official name, is a Union member state to the immediate southwest of Ko-oren, on the east side of the inner sea. It is comprised of what used to be true Ko-orenite islands, but sought autonomy (and was granted just that in exchange for Union membership) on political, racial and linguistic grounds. Nowadays they have good ties with Ko-oren, though the Dragonfly Islands will still play up the rivalry with Ko-oren.

Since the secession of the Islands, some confusion has arisen over the use of the term 'Dragonfly Islands', which was originally used to describe Ko-oren. While the Ko-orenite tourism sector still markets the term 'Dragonfly Islands', the word 'autonomous' is used to discern between Ko-oren and the Dragonfly Islands. The Ko-orenite government still tries to have a monopoly on the term 'Dragonfly Isles' instead.

Fern
Fern, officially the Fern Republic, is a Union member state located on the island of Crux, on the western side of the inner sea. It is bordered by Waratah and Protea, and off its coast is Kang Rao. Fern is known for its stunning nature and rough landscape further inland, while the coast is easily accessible and all of its major cities, as a result, are coastal. Roughly 10% of the Crux Island Indigenous ('Tribes') people live in Fern (250.000 people), also comprising about 10% of Fern's population. The Tribes are their own separate entity in sports, so they do not represent Fern in any international games.

Rugby (any code) and Cricket are major sports in Fern, but Waratah Rules, Field Hockey and Soccer are also enjoyed by many. The Sailfish and Galaxy, Fern's rugby teams in Union competitions, have a significant amount of Crux Island Indigenous players on them.

Irisia
Irisia, officially the Territory of Irisia, is a Union member state located to the south of the inner sea. It is to the immediate west of Arhoria and to the south of Taloren. Irisia was originally called Irisen, before it was called Irithoren by the Ko-orenites and now the latinisation Irisia was chosen. The economy of Irisia is built on the large mining operations on the island, which needs to import 45% of its food in order to accommodate its population.

While Arhoria prefers Union to League, Irisia plays League as a favourite code. Cricket is another popular sport. Arhoria is the territory's largest rival, and Taloren as well, to some extent.

Kang Rao
Kang Rao, officially the Territory of Irisia, is a Union member state located near Crux Island to the west of the inner sea. The largest economical sector is industry. They produce a good portion of consumer goods for all Union member states. All Kang Raoese live in cities, which are generally safe but crowded and unplanned.

Kang Rao's sports are very different from the Crux Island sports (Rugby, Cricket). Kang Raoese mostly enjoy baseball, basketball and soccer. They also have a gridiron team. Weiyao, the capital and largest city, has four professional teams and Nanhua has three, and this led to a fierce rivalry between the two cities.

Ko-oren
Ko-oren, officially the Ko-orenite Meritocracy, is a Union member state to the east of the inner sea, comprised of five main inhabited islands. Within Ko-oren is also the Union Capital, a small plot of unincorporated land on which the official buildings of the entire Union are located. Ko-oren also has the highest HDI of the entire Union, primarily due to its important role within the Union and its good reputation abroad.

If a sport is popular anywhere in the Union, there are also clubs in Ko-oren for it. Rugby (any code), soccer, gridiron, field hockey and baseball are the biggest, but the archipelago has a professional club in each and every professional Union-wide league, the only member state to achieve that feat.

Milyu
Milyu, officially the Colony of Milyu, is a Union member state to the west of the inner sea, as a small island off the coast of Crux Island and near Kang Rao. It is the third richest member state behind Thaulandi and the Nine Sisters, and like the Nine Sisters and Kang Rao all of its citizens live in cities. Its capital Mawrystwyth is the city with the highest standard of living across the Union. Overall, there are nations with higher standards of living as a whole, but no city bests Mawrystwyth. Milyu's other cities are also beautiful places with many parks and open spaces, but are rated lower than cities in Ko-oren, Waratah or the Nine Sisters.

The most popular sports here are soccer, rugby union and rugby league, as well as cricket. Mawrystwyth has 6 professional teams out of Milyu's total 12. This does not make Mawrystwyth the city with most teams in the Union (New Babylon, New Détroit and Talsheer each have eight) but it is ranked way up there.

Nine Sisters
Nine Sisters, officially the Collective of the Nine Sisters, is a Union member state comprised of nine individual city states. They lie to the southeast of the inner sea, south of Ko-oren and the Dragonfly Islands, but north of Santa Teresa and the Six Saints. Each individual city state has its own legislation, parliament and so on, but the nine together have agreed on very extensive integration. That said, there are nine different capitals and inhabitants of one city often do not know much more about what is important in another city than about what is happening in another nation altogether. The Nine Sisters together are the second richest nation in the Union by true GDP and by GDP per capita. They are the third most populated member state behind Thaulandi and Ko-oren.

Its trigramme, IXS, is the Latin numeral nine and the S for sisters. Still, there are only seven major islands: the name 'Nine Sisters' comes from the number of city states (politically) rather than the number of islands (geographically).

Every sport is popular in at least one of the Sisters. Soccer, Gridiron, Ice Hockey, Baseball and Handball especially so.

Polaris
Polaris, officially the Polaris Plains, is a Union member state located to the northwest of the inner sea, sharing a landmass with the Polaris Aboriginals. Polarians themselves are not much newer to the island, but are still to some extent genetically different from the 'natives'. Polarians have mastered the art of writing Ages, forming links between the world we know and worlds they have created themselves. In modern times, they have also taken up modern trades, and now specialise in environmental issues, combining nature with efficiency and design. They lead the Union in making something from barren wastelands, deserts and any other kind of landscape.

Polarians like their own brand of games, largely inherited from the early Dragonfly Islands and/or Milyu: Hurling and Gaelic Football. They also developed their own games which they later merged with already existing sports, taking the global rules as their own as well. This happened in Handball and Lacrosse. Furthermore, many Polarians have taken an interest in Baseball and Soccer as Union-wide sports.

Protea
Protea, officially the Republic of Protea, is a Union member state located to the west of the inner sea, sharing a landmass with other Crux Island nations Waratah and Fern. It's the northernmost of the three Crux Island nations, divided from the other two by a large hill range. This keeps most rain out of Waratah, and provides Protea with a lush landscape. Protea's economy is based around manufacturing, though the tourism industry is also alive and kicking.

Proteans play a little bit of everything, but Rugby mainly gets them going. Soccer also plays a large part.

Together with the Six Saints, Santa Teresa is sometimes called the 'Seven Saints', and they have a cricket team as such. Santa Teresa's climate is gentle, but fairly warm and some regions are very arid. The economy is based on industry and manufacturing, and many Santa Teresans are still working in agriculture

Santa Teresans love basketball, with many courts littered around the cities of the Independent Republic. In addition, some communities and the larger cities also have soccer as a major game, and baseball is increasingly popular as well.

Seiranesia
Seiranesia, officially the Autonomous Archipelago of Seiranesia, is a Union member state located to far west of the union, not touching the inner sea. It is located even further west than Dendronesia. Seiranesia consists of a several thousand islands that are grouped together into four groups (Kalaku'ete, Sekuvangani, Huhe'opane, and Tara'ila'aka). Kalaku'ete is the most economically active region, while Huhe'opane has the most islands (most of which are uninhabited though). The nation produces specific items of food, coming from the rich seas, and thrives on tourism income. The islands have a nice summer temperature, and temperatures in winter do not drop below 5-10 degrees.

Seiranesians like rugby and Waratah Rules (Aussie Rules) football, and due to their small population they only have teams in these sports. Many Seiranesians live in remote areas, making them unavailable to professional sports teams anyway.

Six Saints
The Six Saints, officially the Collective of the Six Autonomous Saints, is a Union member state located to the southeast of the inner sea, near Santa Teresa and the Nine Sisters. The Six Saints are a geographically diverse group of islands (six major islands and several dozens of minor ones) with six autonomous states. The major economical activity in the nation is industry, and the people enjoy great social equality. Due to great differences between tides, most of the population lives inland, with just some services located on the coast (ports, vacation resorts).

Six Sainters play basketball, baseball and soccer like Santa Teresa, which is culturally close, but under influence from the Nine Sisters, gridiron is also a major sport.

Skyvinduren
Skyvinduren, officially the Paradise of Skyvinduren, is a Union member state located to the far northeast of the inner sea, far east from Thaulandi and far north from Ko-oren. It is by far the most isolated nation of the Union with by far the smallest population. The population can sustain itself by agriculture and fishing, and the Skyvindurensk make their money from publishing. It is called 'Paradise' after the government of the nation discovered that they could name themselves anything they wanted. Skyvinduren has some of the lower temperatures of the Union, but not nearly as cold as Thaulandi. The Skyvindurensk keep to themselves, but that is mainly to protect their small community.

The Skyvindurensk play some sports, mainly soccer, but have too small of a population to sustain a professional team.

Taloren
Taloren, officially the Island Republic of Taloren, is a Union member state located to the south of the inner sea, near Irisia and Arhoria. Taloren consists of several thousand small islands (the local government also counts small outcroppings as separate islands, if they are separated by water more than 50% of the time), of which a couple dozen are populated. Most Talorenites do not live in the cities, but in a web of towns and village around them, causing the actual city propers to be very small. Taloren has two major types of islands: rocky/steep and sandy/touristy. Most islands have formed over a hot spot in the ocean, and water energy and geothermal energy come together here. Taloren's largest export is electricity as a result.

Talorenites play cricket. Usually between the villages and towns of one web around a city, but Samothor has one bigger general club that competes with Union clubs. Furthermore, Efathrad and Vanutaur, on their islands, have set up a Hurling and a Gaelic Football team to compete in the Polaris-dominated leagues in those sports.

Thaulandi
Thaulandi, officially the Republic of Thaulandi, is a Union member state located to the north of the inner sea, past Zakhozan. It is fairly isolated, but because of the large population of Thaulandi itself (which has to import nearly 100% of its food) there are many connections between Thaulandi and the rest of the Union. If Ko-oren can be called the cultural heart of the Union, Thaulandi is the economical heart, home to about 79% of the oil reserves of the Union, as well as many mines of almost every resource imaginable. Thaulandi is by far the richest member nation, and it has the largest population, but is a reluctant member of the Union. Over 50% of Thaulandi's surface does not have temperatures above 0 degrees C, even in summer, but the southern coastal areas are very habitable. Winters are severe, even in the habitable areas. The visible landscape of the member nation is white as snow in most cases, but is also home to some of the most breathtaking mountain ranges in the multiverse.

Thaulandians are represented in everything, because of the large and rich population. Gridiron, Ice Hockey, Handball, Lacrosse and Soccer are very popular and in many cases almost half of all teams in those leagues are based in Thaulandi. All venues are inside, often part of a 'metropolis' of malls, apartment blocks, all part of one massive indoor city.

Waratah
Waratah, officially the Waratah Republic, is a Union member state located to the west of the inner sea. It is the largest nation on Crux Island, which it shares with Fern and Protea. Off the southern coast of Waratah are Milyu and Kang Rao. Waratah's coast has a friendly climate, with some hints of tropical rainforests in the northeast (bordering Protea) and temperate rainforests in the southwest (bordering Fern). Further inland, the landscape turns rugged, with a small steeper ridge about 150 km from the coast. This inland area is arid and many places are very hot as well. Otherwise, the borders between Waratah and the rest of Crux island is defined by a mountain range. Beyond the mountain range (in the other nations), there is much more rainfall.

The most popular sports are both rugby codes, cricket, field hockey and Waratah Rules Football, a game extremely similar to Aussie Rules football which originated here. The rules of both sports are the same now after several decades of debating, but the name 'Waratah Rules' stuck.

Wolf Islands
Wolf Islands, officially the Wolf Islands Reserves, is a Union member state located to the east of the inner sea, located directly to Ko-oren's northeast. Three large islands make up the Wolf Islands, and in terms of climate, it is very similar to Ko-oren's northern coast: cold winters, very moderate summers. Many of the 'colder' crops in the Union come from here: Beets, potatoes and the like.

Sports in the Wolf Islands are for the urban only, and here, you'll find many different sports. Gridiron, Ice Hockey and Handball are favourites, Soccer is steadily climbing to first place but Baseball, Basketball and Field Hockey are also popular.

Zakhozan
Zakhozan, officially the Independent Nation of Zakhozan, is a Union member state located in the middle of the inner sea, slightly towards Thaulandi in the north. While Thaulandi is the richest Union member, Zakhozan is the poorest, with the worst facilities. Most Zakhozians work in agriculture, in a climate much like the Wolf Islands' (fairly cold, but with short but decent summers), but without most of the agricultural technology available in the other Union member states.

Despite the circumstances, sports are something every Zakhozian finds time for. Gridiron, Ice Hockey and Soccer are most popular, but most sports have some small fan base.

Gridiron - Season 1

The first season of Gridiron in the Union! For this season, the desired format is unattainable, for it bases its schedule around last season's standings. Therefore this season's format is different: all teams play the other teams in their division twice (14 games) and then there will be two Casran-style days left. The playoff situation remains the same: two from each conference plus two more wildcards.

Standings after 7 days:

Ko-orenite Isles Division Pld W L PF PA PD

The Greens, the '65 and the Destroyers start fantastically in the new system. Kensington is doing awfully and might set a special record in season one, but it might be too early to talk about that. Zernino Krylya's amazing offence is fueled by their quarterback and two wide receivers. Yuri Petrovich throws for two touchdowns in all of their won games, but was sacked too much in the two games they lost. Miloslav Makarovich and Avgust Fyodorov have both received for over 100 yards in three games each, and in their blowout victory over Sparta (30-7) both Makarovich and Fyodorov completed the 100 yards.

The Greens have by far the best defence: a 4-3 system with great blitz and run coverage with MLB Bart Raatmink at the core, but Thies van de Weg led the way with an average of 4 sacks per game so far.

The sole Wolf Islander team is sitting at the top of the Ko-orenite division. In the Eastern division, all of the Nonasororan teams are near the top (1, 3, 4, 6) while the two Zakhozian teams in the division are last and second last. The Santa Teresan teams here are second and fifth.

The Greens went 6-1 in the first seven games, but their game was figured out and they went 1-6 in the second half. Now they will have to give it their all to secure a playoff spot in the tough division where the top seven all have a chance. The Western Division has a reverse situation: the Explosions, Rays and Destroyers leave the competition far behind. Kensington Moonlight ended the season with two victories at least. Krylya came second in the Thaulandian division with 352 points in 14 games, or over 25 points per game on average. Even if Petrovich won't make the playoffs, the Krylya QB will still be high on lists for division MVP.

The Western division is the best division in the league, is the only thing we can say. Their teams finished second, fourth, eighth, ninth and tenth and that means that there are teams in the playoffs that would have come sixth in the Western division! Pereselenets '65 are the preliminary team to beat with 12-4. Five out of ten playoff teams hail from Thaulandi, as was almost expected. Their teams have the most resources to make something out of nothing. Krylya still has the highest scoring team, but their defence is among the worst of playoff teams. At one point 6-1 Groenhoek Greens are out of the playoffs with 8-8. 10-6 is the cutoff point for the playoffs: 9-7 teams often came short of the playoffs, apart from one wildcard and one team that still came second in their division. The East has some work to do: their second best team came 11th overall. Their third team came 16th, which means that the majority of the division are in the last half of the league.

Gridiron - Season 1 Postseason

Week 1:
No. 31 v. No 32: Yeliseykovo Energia v. Kensington Moonlight 21-41
Ko-oren's Bowl: Greencaster Shells v. Castelo da Miradela Castles 3-19
Thaulandi's Bowl: Marinwood Victory v. Novaya Pobeda Kosmonauts 17-3
Nine Sisters' Bowl: New Sydney Wolfpack v. New Détroit Lions 14-10

In the first week of the postseason, the Moonlight has won its third game of the season in the annual '31v32' game. All of a sudden the offence clicked, and while the defence allowed yards and points, Moonlight showed a glimpse of a competent attack. That, or Energia showed up without the usual starting secondary and defensive line because of injury concerns. In Ko-oren's Bowl we saw the Shells take on the Castles: the two best teams from Ko-oren to not make the playoffs in any way, shape or form. The same goes for the other two Bowls as well, but for Thaulandi and the Nine Sisters. The Castles had their defence together today, in a rare occasion, while the Shells played a very anonymous game without too many spectacular twists. Marinwood Victory almost copied the Castles in their win over the Kosmonauts (17-3). In the Nine Sisters, New Sydney beat New Détroit 14-10 in the closest game of the weekend. It wasn't a great game, but if the coaches keep their team together, add two or three players in key positions, next year could look good for the Nine Sisters, whose teams have the lowest average age (all four teams combined).

Week 2: Wildcard Round
Maynard Roses (THL) 27–6 Schemerdrecht Skies (KOR)
Bonesteel Destroyers (THL) 3–7 New Amsterdam Admirals (IXS)

In the Wildcard Round, the Roses justified their Wildcard by keeping the Skies out. The Destroyers and the Admirals kept it low in a game that never really got under way.

Week 3: Division Round One
New Nagoya Cyclones (IXS) 7–30 Dendronesia Rays (DEN)
Aminey Caspians (KOR) 17–7 Zernino Krylya (THL)
Ansonville Explosions (THL) 17–16 Maynard Roses (THL)
Pereselenets '65 (THL) 0–24 New Amsterdam Admirals (IXS)

The Roses lost to the 2nd overall Explosions by just one single point: their team was up to par, their special teams were not. The Admirals, coming from an 11th overall place and advancing through the Wildcard round by just four points, shut out the overall #1 team and scored 24 points in the largest upset of the year. If this makes the Admirals a contender for the title, we're not sure, but if they keep playing like that they could make the UBOWL. But we still don't know why they didn't show that all season. Were they just a really good group of individuals but not a team yet, and they finally connected? We'll see. The Rays and the Caspians win in solid games over the Cyclones and Krylya, and that's the end for our #1 offence in the league (Krylya, that is). They couldn't light up the Caspians like they could with most of the teams they played this season. Hopefully they stay together for us to enjoy some offensive gridiron next season.

Week 4: Division Round Two
Aminey Caspians (KOR) 21–3 Ansonville Explosions (THL)
Dendronesia Rays (DEN) 6–21 New Amsterdam Admirals (IXS)

The Admirals keep climbing after a bad season. We still don't know what it is, but keep it coming. The Caspians show they can take care of good teams consistently, and after ousting Krylya, the Explosions are out too.

Week 5: Selenitic Bowl
This is Ko-oren's Pro Bowl. Players that are not in the UBOWL can be invited by either the Water team or the Fire team, so that even players on the same team can play each other during this event.

Fire v. Water 21-17

Big players on each side:

Team Fire

QB: Artem Utkin (Pereselenets '65)
MLB: Caleb Sawyer (Marinwood Victory)

WR: Tyler August (Bonesteel Destroyers)
RB: Joost Schoonenburg (Groenhoek Greens)
DT: Akira Wakahisa (New Nagoya Cyclones)
OLB: Mariano Ybarro (San Dionisio Guillotines)
S: Kawehi Kalani (Dendronesia Rays)
K: Tristão Edmundo (Castelo da Miradela Castles)

Team Water

QB: Vitaly Mihaylov (Zernino Krylya)
MLB: Jesse Rietveld (Schemerdrecht Skies)

WR: Mick Christopherson (Ansonville Explosions)
RB: Yamato Ueno (New Nagoya Cyclones)
DE: Ikaika Lehua (Dendronesia Rays)
OLB: Sammy Barnes (Bonesteel Destroyers)
S: Chip Fabian (Ansonville Explosions)
CB: Ferdinand Tyrell (Ansonville Explosions)

Week 6: UBOWL
Here it is. The Big One. Two teams, one that was a contender from the start, and one that started out terribly but kept going and kept improving every single game. Aminey Caspians and New Amsterdam Admirals. The Thaulandians have adopted the game as their own, but they don't have a team in the final. It's Ko-oren versus the Nine Sisters. The Caspians went 11-5 with a loss and a win in the Casaran stage: first a loss to the Monos and later a win versus the Rays. The Monos went on to a 27th place, showing the inexperienced side of the team. But ever since, they have played a solid game and did not give up any unnecessary yardage. The New Amsterdam Admirals lost one and won one in the Casaran as well: 7-0 win, 3-7 loss. They kept their losses small and manageable, and yet they are the worst team by far to compete in the playoffs. If you want a true underdog story, here you go.

Aminey Caspians (KOR) 6–6 New Amsterdam Admirals (IXS) (13–6 OT)

The Caspians are the Union's first true champions! The Admirals, despite their fairy tale run, came short in overtime. Important players on both teams:

Aminey Caspians

QB: Paul Giraud
MLB: Lucas Maury

WR: Maxime Evrard
RB: Samuel Aubert
LT: Axel Masson
DE: Auguste Mathieu
OLB: Etienne Gregoire
CB: Guillaume Picard
K: Etienne Barbe

New Amsterdam Admirals

QB: Jasper Bos
MLB: Thomas van Doorn

WR: Niek Molenaar
RB: Sander Visser
DE: Sjoerd de Koning
DT: Leon Brouwer
OLB: Rick van der Veen
S: Stefan Vermeulen
K: Jeroen Verbeek

Individual Awards

Santa Teresa Lions (STT) 16–19 Mawrystwyth Dragons (MIL)

Grand Final
North Head Eagles (ZAK) 22–17 Mawrystwyth Dragons (MIL)

Team of the Season:

FB: Chaka, iDyerehlo Buffaloes
LW: Sean Harper, Chanoogah Pythons
OC: Damian Robertson, Roonoolloo Spiders
IC: Ceiriog Cecil, Mawrystwyth Dragons
RW: Videl Maduro, Santa Teresa Lions
HB: Virgilio Barreras, Santa Teresa Lions
58: Jack Burns, North Head Eagles
LF: Spencer West, New Sydney Sea Eagles
SR: Baeddan Brice, Mawrystwyth Dragons
SR: Finn Clarke, North Head Eagles
LP: Cetshwayo, iDyerehlo Buffaloes
HO: Luke White, North Head Eagles
RP: Ellis Woods, Oquirre Vipers

Best Player (Season): Virgilio Barreras (HB, Santa Teresa Lions)
Best Player (Grand Final): Jack Burns (58, North Head Eagles)
Leading Tryscorer: Videl Maduro (RW, Santa Teresa Lions)
Leading Pointscorer: Joe Price (HB, North Head Eagles)

The North Head Eagles run away with a majority of the individual prizes because of their almost perfect run all season: against all teams in the competition, against their division, and in the playoffs. The Santa Teresa Lions supplied the best player allround: Virgilio Barreras. The position of Halfback was a contested one, as the North Head Eagles HB won the prize for leading pointscorer. Not so much due to tries, but mainly due to goal scoring. The Buffaloes are set for a good season next year: they have a talented couple of players in the forms of Chaka and Cetshwayo so far, but they can take on more talent from Protea. Waratine teams have disappointed, even though two players from Waratah made it to the Team of the Season. Lastly, Maduro for the Lions was the leading tryscorer last season, scoring in 20 out of 29 matches: not so much running away with tries in easily decided games, but also scoring when it counts. He scored a try in the grand final too, but Jack Burns, the best player of the grand final, scored two for an Eagles win.

Soccer - Season 1

19 Abalok 36 10 7 19 46 66 −20 37

In the Northern League (Thaulandi and Zakhozan), the Russian speaking teams of Thaulandi did well for themselves, securing first and second place. All of Zakhozan's teams finished in the top half, as well. What else catches our eye in this one is how often teams score: even Heartwell, well into the bottom half of the table, scored over two goals per game. Angosar, second place, scored just 42. This league is a nice balance of offence and defence: we can see the Russian speaking teams concede far less than the English speaking ones, and the Zakhozan teams (Gravel Coast, Red Markets, North Head, South Head) outscoring most. Woolstock, from Thaulandi, scored 91 despite a seventh place, and still conceded 86!

The Eastern League has all the names we know and love - Ko-oren itself is in here. Tweebergen, from the Wolf Islands, seizes the championship followed by Penstead from the Dragonfly Islands (the sole team from there, in fact). Goals are far more scarce here than anywhere, but then again, defence is Ko-oren's middle name, if nations had middle names. The gaps in the top of the list are easy to spot too: Tweebergen was stronger than the rest, and only from third or fourth place down, the gaps between teams become smaller. The bottom three are a ways behind the rest too.

The Southern League has a few different playing styles merged in one league. It's the attacking Six Saints teams (San Simeón, Santa Juana), both in the top three of the league. The Nine Sisters teams (all recognisable from the 'New' in the name) are very varied in playing style and quality. The other teams are teams from Santa Teresa, but we can see their best team coming in fifth. The Nine Sisters simply have more financial measures, we must conclude. And New Babylon, in 13th, has conceded 30, one per game. New Bogota, in seventh, has conceded way over twice that (82). How is that for diversity.

This is the least financially viable league despite having very rich nations in them, but the attendance figures lag behind Rugby League and Union, Basketball, and so on. There is still some very good football played here, courtesy of the teams from Kang Rao: Taonuping, Weiyao FC, Shumei, all placing in the top 5. Their other two teams (Nanhua, Weiyao City) are a bit worse, but overall they rank among the top. Polaris teams (Kadish Dadar, Talsheer, Nehlagihn, Gelmedhan) are a grab bag of teams, from second to second last. They are slightly conservative in playing style. Milyu has three teams, and it is the single nation in here where soccer is popular, and yet the biggest team in the predictions, from the large and rich metropolis of Mawrystwyth... finished dead last. Protea's teams (starting with lower case i's) are all mid table, but not in terrible form. Fern and Waratah are typically sports powerhouses, but both only have one team each. Fern's Puketahi finished top 10, Waratah's Myaranowra has some work to do, but at least with a positive goal difference.

We have seen an extremely even final stage with all four teams within two points from one another. Atletico San Simeón takes the overall victory with three losses in their first three games, and then three wins in the second half of the playoffs. Taonuping comes second with a 4-0 loss in the last game... against San Simeón, a game they only had to tie. Deryagino is a point short with two 2-2 draws versus Taonuping. Their Vitomir Volkov scores five, which is half of their entire production. Other high scorers are Gutiérrez (5) and Tapia (4) from Atletico, and Taonuping's Qing Weng, the sole woman up in the top scorers list with 4. Tweebergen came short in the defensive area, losing one match 3-0 and another 4-2. In their loss to eventual winners San Simeón, they conceded another 3 in a 3-2 loss, and that while the Wolf Islanders started with two wins.

Rugby Union - Season 1

The Union-wide Rugby competition uses a bonus point system. In Ko-oren alone, the bonus point system was abolished because Ko-orenite play is quite defensive and the bonus point system went against that tendency. Under pressure from the other nations in the Union, and because Ko-oren only has three out of 22 Rugby Union clubs, a bonus point system was eventually decided on. Unlike the traditional bonus point system, a team now gets an extra point if:
- They lose by seven points or less
- They win by 19 points or more* (this rule was OOC adopted after the French system, where a team gets a bonus point for scoring three more tries than their opponent. This comes down to 15 points + conversions. The 19 points come from 3 tries for 15 points plus an arbitrary two of those tries converted)

This prevents the situation of a losing team getting two bonus points (for scoring tries and for losing by less than seven points)

Every team plays every other team once, and then plays six more random opponents at the end of the season, for 27 matches total.

In the table, bonus points are displayed as such: winning BP/losing BP: first the BP for winning by 19 or more points, then the BP for losing by less than 7. The final column shows the total number of points for a team, including bonus points. For the rest, teams get four points for a win and two for a draw.

The Asteroids from Protea win the league, by a large margin! They win by far the most matches, even though they haven't secured many bonus points. Out of their eight losses, just two were within a 7 point margin, and none of their 19 wins have been by more than 19 points, which means that the Asteroids were a winning team but a very conservative winning team. In that regard, New Sydney Zenith and Mawrystwyth Ursa Major were better: half of their losses were within a try and a conversion (7 points), and New Sydney won three blowouts in addition to their six small losses. At the bottom of the table, reducing the losing margin really adds up, with the Novas, Galaxy and the Planets all jumping a few places over their competition by losing with a tiny margin. To compare: the Asteroids, at #1, lost 6 games by more than 7 points. The Planets, at #21, lost the exact same number of games by more than 7 points. The Planets had one blowout win versus the Asteroids' zero big wins. In a sense, this shows how bottom teams can be very entertaining and how close the level of competition is, but it also shows how the Asteroids kept winning and winning, not spectacularly, but they were all wins nonetheless.

Ice Hockey - Season 1

Over half of teams in Ice Hockey are from Thaulandi. Climate, weather and season duration (long winters) all contribute to Ice Hockey being a major sport in Thaulandi. That said, 14 out of 26 teams play in the Thaulandian conference, for Thaulandian teams only. The association's HQ is in the northern nation, the finals are all played over there, the money and the population - it's all in the northern THL.

The Union conference has six teams from the Nine Sisters, a much warmer but equally rich nation. Three come from Zakhozan, a poor, backwards nation but one with a suitable climate for the sport, and the popularity of Ice Hockey here is off the charts. Ko-oren obviously has two teams in the league as well, being the spider in the web of the Union. The Wolf Islands have the last team. Only nine professional teams are located on the Wolf Islands, and this is one of them, in one of the popular sports over there as well.

Fourteen teams in one division, twelve in the other: they play 52 games in Thaulandi and 44 in the rest of the Union. The top three from each conference advances to the finals in Pereselenets, Marinwood, Bonesteel, Novaya Pobeda and the like.

The situation halfway
Thaulandian Conference Pld W L GF GA GD Win %
1 Khabotskoye Metallurg 26 16 10 72 55 +17 0.615
2 Bonesteel Blizzards 26 16 10 86 83 +3 0.615
3 Ansonville Towers 26 15 11 82 65 +17 0.577
4 Maynard Knights 26 14 12 70 65 +5 0.538
5 Abalok Spartak 26 14 12 71 72 −1 0.538
6 Pereselenets Lokomotiv 26 14 12 78 81 −3 0.538

14 Sudilova Neftekhimik 26 7 19 55 86 −31 0.269

Khabotskoye and Bonesteel lead the conference, and Ansonville is ready to prey on any mistake by the top two, with their superior goal difference. Khabotskoye has the defence, Bonesteel has the offence, but watch out because only the last four teams are under a .500 win percentage. This conference is close.

Union Conference Pld W L GF GA GD Win %
1 New Détroit Reds 22 14 8 67 56 +11 0.636

11 New Babylon Islanders 22 8 14 63 75 −12 0.364
12 New Nagoya Katanas 22 8 14 62 69 −7 0.364

New Détroit is leading this conference. Two teams from one city, the only city with two Ice Hockey teams. It's in the Nine Sisters, and people from New Détroit love their sports. The city has almost as many professional teams as the nation of the Wolf Islands, whose team is 10th. After the leading two teams we have a whole line of teams on 12-10 and 11-11. Only New Babylon and New Nagoya are clearly behind.

Bonesteel and Khabotskoye have been caught, and Metallurg even finishes four wins behind Rubin. Vilki has a very impressive run from 9th to 1st, being just .500 halfway but finishing .596 at the end. Maynard gets second and Idyllwild gets third on goal difference. Pereselenets - Thaulandi's largest city - would have loved to play in front of a home crowd in the playoffs, but they miss it by a tiny margin.

The teams from New Détroit keep up though, and finish first and second. The teams in this conference are closer together at the end, with only one team over .550. Three teams are on the 24-20 line for the playoffs, and Intersection, a tiny village in Zakhozan, comes close but loses out in the end. New Amsterdam is the third team going to the playoffs, completing the all-Nine Sisters lineup.

Basketball - Season 1

Basketball, unlike many sports in the Union, is not dominated by one nation or geographically close small group of nations. In fact, the only nation with more than four teams in the league (with 28 teams total) is Santa Teresa with six teams. Ko-oren has four, the Six Saints have four, the Nine Sisters have four, Kang Rao has four, and Thaulandi, Protea, Waratah, the Wolf Islands and Zakhozan are all represented, making Basketball possibly the only sport with a following in most nations, with none being far overrepresented. Ten teams total (Six Saints and Santa Teresa's) speak Spanish, which is a unique feature of the league: no other sport has such a Hispanophone following.

All teams play each other three times, with a total of 81 games (27*3). The top eight qualify for the playoffs, which are best of three. The finals are best of five. In between the semifinals and the final is the all-pro game.

Nanhua Gold and New Détroit Snipers are the winners of this season, both on a 'measly' .593 win percentage. The Kang Rao and the Nine Sisters sides go into the playoffs as the first and second seed. The Snipers were on form all season, while Nanhua took over first place with a 16-4 win streak halfway through the season. The Argonauts, in fifth, were fluctuating through the ranks as well, but never dropped below 8th.

The top eight has two sides from the Nine Sisters: the Snipers and the Energy. Santa Teresa supplies the Hurricanes, in what must be a disappointing season for them. They have the most teams in the league, but only one shot at the championship in Santiago. The Six Saints have a great season: half their teams made the playoffs: San Dionisio and San Pedro. Burnet represents Thaulandi and Suinohiro is Ko-orenite.

Playoffs, Round 1
Nanhua Gold (KAO) 66–96 San Pedro Fury (VIS)
Nanhua Gold (KAO) 81–64 San Pedro Fury (VIS)
Nanhua Gold (KAO) 90–94 San Pedro Fury (VIS)

New Babylon Energy (IXS) 66–83 San Dionisio Argonauts (VIS)
New Babylon Energy (IXS) 94–64 San Dionisio Argonauts (VIS)
New Babylon Energy (IXS) 78–86 San Dionisio Argonauts (VIS)

The top two seeds fall in Round 1! Fury wins two by large margins, and the Rubies eliminate the Snipers with two close games. The Titans go on as expected, and the Argonauts make sure one team from the Six Saints makes the finals after their semis against Fury. A classic between the Union's most powerful members, Ko-oren and Thaulandi, is the other semifinal.

Playoffs, Round 2
San Pedro Fury (VIS) 62–71 San Dionisio Argonauts (VIS)
San Pedro Fury (VIS) 81–77 San Dionisio Argonauts (VIS)
San Pedro Fury (VIS) 80–76 San Dionisio Argonauts (VIS)

Burnet Rubies (THL) 77–78 Suinohiro Titans (KOR)
Burnet Rubies (THL) 92–66 Suinohiro Titans (KOR)

Fury, the number eight seed, continues all the way to the final! Thaulandi wins the matchup over Ko-oren and that means that Thaulandi's only team is playing for the big prize as well. The Rubies played two close games, but the decider was an easy win for them, leading 50-36 by halftime.

All-pro game
Team Fire 72-79 Team Water

Finals
San Pedro Fury (VIS) 61–77 Burnet Rubies (THL)
San Pedro Fury (VIS) 60–71 Burnet Rubies (THL)
San Pedro Fury (VIS) 87–83 Burnet Rubies (THL)
San Pedro Fury (VIS) 71–95 Burnet Rubies (THL)

The Rubies win! After four out of five games, they win their third one to win the series and the championship! The underdogs from San Pedro came far, but fell short in the end.

*Ranks higher due to Conference standings

And that is the conclusion to our first regular season of baseball. We have our eight playoff teams!

For the Northern conference, the Polarian teams have done excellently. Kadish Dadar and Talsheer have qualified for the playoffs with Ko-orenite teams Willowbourne and Furune. Despite a good conference season, Perham Baseball Club fell out of the top four with an awful interconferential round: after a 61-47 conference finish, they went 21-29 playing teams from both conferences. Sunbury went the other way around: a great interconferential stage, but they finished bottom - by a large margin - in the Northern conference.

In short, Polarian players were hot this season. For both Kadish Dadar and Talsheer, it was the focus and persistence that saved their seasons. The defence was simply great, and both teams recorded conference-low error stats. Furune went under the radar for most of the season, but persevered with a never-give-up team: they won 34 games in the ninth inning. Willowbourne was the team to beat, great players on both side of the ball. Their pitching was great, but all of their players stood up at the right moment.

For the Southern Conference, San Timoteo qualified for the Six Saints, San Juan for Santa Teresa and that makes the southeastern Hispanics the best teams of that conference. New Détroit and New Hamburg were two of the Nine Sisters' seven teams, so sheer statistics define that they would have done well too. Baseball is a very metropolitan sport, in that regard, with the largest cities all having teams in the league. The Southern Conference was less of a surprise than the Northern one, with all four top teams in the conference qualifying for the playoffs. New Amsterdam and New Nagoya came close, but it was not enough. San Timoteo will be the overall #1 seed with 95 wins in the opening season. All in all, the differences in both conferences were about equally small, but the top teams in the South really came through. San Timoteo had an insane defence in the conference, but their mistakes increased towards the end of the season. Can they pull through in the playoffs? New Détroit had a similar decline, while New Hamburg only became better towards the end of the season.

Playoffs, Round 1
Kadish Dadar Guild of Engineers (POL) 7–6 New Hamburg Giants (IXS)
Kadish Dadar Guild of Engineers (POL) 1–7 New Hamburg Giants (IXS)
Kadish Dadar Guild of Engineers (POL) 0–1 New Hamburg Giants (IXS)

Willowbourne Grands (KOR) 1–8 New Détroit Millions (IXS)
Willowbourne Grands (KOR) 8–6 New Détroit Millions (IXS)
Willowbourne Grands (KOR) 4–1 New Détroit Millions (IXS)

Furune Sparrows (KOR) 4–8 San Juan Saints (STT)
Furune Sparrows (KOR) 2–5 San Juan Saints (STT)

Talsheer Guild of Healers (POL) 9–7 San Timoteo Martyrs (VIS)
Talsheer Guild of Healers (POL) 5–3 San Timoteo Martyrs (VIS)

All in all, both conferences still have one team in. The San Timoteo Martyrs, the unofficially best team of the first 158 games, lost in two games to the fourth seed of the North. Then again, the North's first seed fell too the Giants of New Hamburg. We will now have North v. North and South v. South semifinals.

Playoffs, Round 2
New Hamburg Giants (IXS) 6–0 San Juan Saints (STT)
New Hamburg Giants (IXS) 8–2 San Juan Saints (STT)

Willowbourne Grands (KOR) 1–5 Talsheer Guild of Healers (POL)
Willowbourne Grands (KOR) 2–9 Talsheer Guild of Healers (POL)

Talsheer and New Hamburg are in, both being fourth seeds in their conference. Both are teams that only became better in the interconferential rounds, while most other teams were on the decline - but maybe these two teams just know when to step it up.

Playoffs, Finals
New Hamburg Giants (IXS) 2–3 Talsheer Guild of Healers (POL) @ New Hamburg, Nine Sisters
New Hamburg Giants (IXS) 8–7 Talsheer Guild of Healers (POL) @ Talsheer, Polaris
New Hamburg Giants (IXS) 4–6 Talsheer Guild of Healers (POL) @ Santa Teresa, Santa Teresa
New Hamburg Giants (IXS) 1–5 Talsheer Guild of Healers (POL) @ Willowbourne, Ko-oren

The Talsheer Guild of Healers wins the first championship! The Polarian team was dominating in the playoffs with a 2-0 win over the overall best team of the first 158, then a 2-0 win over Ko-oren's pride with 14-3 in runs, and a 3-1 win in the final over the New Hamburg Giants!

Cricket - Season 1

Cricket is a sport that comes in various shapes and sizes. Most of those are practised in the Union, in slightly different ways:

T20 is played by 14 club teams across the Union: two from Waratah, Ko-oren, the Nine Sisters, and Milyu each, and one from Arhoria, the Dragonfly Isles, Fern, Irisia, Protea and Taloren.

ODI is played by 10 nations of the Union: Ko-oren, Dragonfly Islands, Fern, Protea, Waratah, Milyu, the Nine Sisters, which appear by themselves, and the joint teams of All Seven Saints (Santa Teresa and the Six Saints), Dendronesia & Seiranesia, and Irisia & Arhoria.

Test Cricket is played by 4 nations within the Union: Waratah, Fern, Protea and Milyu on a regular basis. Ko-oren appears sometimes, as do the other ODI nations.

Fern's Moanahóhonu takes the win with 10 total wins, followed by Samothor from Taloren. Maengwaun is third, from Milyu, with fellow Milyuae team Mawrystwyth on tenth. Waratah did fairly terrible with 11th and 14th, and Ko-oren wasn't much better with 12th and 13th. The Nine Sisters did overall great with 4th and 6th.

The top four all did not make a mistake on the last day, and Mawry only lost because they played Samothor (2nd). The real battle was won on day 12, where Moanahóhonu won by 51 runs, but Samothor fell short against Safirond: Safirond wins by 3 wickets. The two clubs were first and second in the league from day 5 onwards until day 11 (Mawry took second), but the two were united again on day 13. Now you would be wondering what their result against each other was: that was as early as day one: Samothor winning by four wickets: Moanahóhonu posted 145 after 20 overs, and Samothor took 16.3 overs to surpass that.

9 Protea 9 3 6 2159 2196 −37 3
10 Nine Sisters 9 3 6 2167 2247 −80 3

Waratah and the Nesias won, though Waratah secured the championship based on run differential. All finished dangerously close from one another, with even Protea and the Nine Sisters on three victories. Six teams total all won more than they lost, and we can see that the joint teams (the Nesias, Irisia & Arhoria, all seven Saints) did better than the single nations. On the last day, Waratah won by 1 wicket over Irisia and Arhoria to stay close to the Nesias who had an easier schedule, beating the Nine sisters by five wickets. The two teams at the top met on day 3, where the Nesias won by a wicket. On day eight, there were five teams on 5-3, which meant that the last day was crucial. This was the situation after day 8:

Union ODI Pld W L PF PA PD Pts
1 Waratah 8 5 3 2073 1997 +76 5
2 Irisia & Arhoria 8 5 3 2032 1973 +59 5
3 Dendronesia & Seiranesia 8 5 3 2023 2018 +5 5
4 Fern 8 5 3 1973 1979 −6 5
5 Milyu 8 5 3 1952 1989 −37 5

And the day 9 schedule:

Irisia & Arhoria vs. Waratah
Ko-oren vs. Fern
Nine Sisters vs. Dendronesia & Seiranesia
Milyu vs. Dragonfly Islands
(Protea vs. All Seven Saints)

The first match to start was the Nonasororans versus the Nesias because of the time difference, and the Nesias, as reported, won by five wickets. They had a run differential of eight, but by the time the match ended, all other matches were well under way. Waratah won by a wicket over Irisia & Arhoria, as we know, and Milyu came short against the Dragonfly Islands (win by six wickets). Ko-oren had a fantastic day against Fern, with a win by 48 runs, meaning that only two teams in the top five managed a crucial win.

Aminey Centrals (KOR) 19–19 Lena Krasniy (THL) (22–20 OT)
Kadish Dadar Guild of Writers (POL) 10–8 Ansonville Villains (THL)

Thaulandi, where Lacrosse generates the most money, is entirely eliminated in the first round of the playoffs: apparently the Union has the decisive edge over the Thaulandians. Lead by Polaris, which now has three teams in the semifinals. Polarians should be delighted, for Lacrosse is amazingly popular over there.

Gelmedhan Guild of Stone Masons (POL) 12–8 Talsheer Guild of Messengers (POL)
Aminey Centrals (KOR) 17–6 Kadish Dadar Guild of Writers (POL)

We get a Ko-oren - Polaris final after all, instead of an all-Polarian event. The large Polarian cities fall to 'small town' Gelmedhan and one of Ko-oren's largest: Aminey. Not bad for the only team from Ko-oren.

Gelmedhan Guild of Stone Masons (POL) 11–9 Aminey Centrals (KOR)

Gelmedhan does it: a narrow 11-9 win over the Centrals to win the first Union championship. The Stone Masons overcame cocky big city Talsheer, Thaulandian first seeds Bonesteel and all that after a 12-12 ride into the playoffs. Colour us all surprised that 24-win teams Bonesteel and the Writers didn't make it: a good regular season doesn't mean anything here.

Playoffs
Ko-oren is the only nation with more than one team left in, but then again, field hockey in the Union is a business that most nations want a small piece of. There are a lot of one team nations in the league. In the end we are left with a fairly good representation of nations: Fern, Waratah, Milyu, Ko-oren twice, Dragonfly Islands, the Nine Sisters and the Six Saints.

Arapuni (FER) 1–3 New Amsterdam (IXS)
Rozenvoorde (KOR) 1–1 Maengwaun (MIL) (2–1 AET)
Despoblado (VIS) 0–1 Schemerdrecht (KOR)
Yalloodoola (WAR) 0–1 Argoen (DRI)

Both of Ko-oren's teams survive, and the entire Ko-orenite conference goes on to rule, with Argoen also making it. New Amsterdam is left as the only non-eastern team, and the Crux Island nations, where field hockey is massive, are left to wonder what went wrong.

New Amsterdam (IXS) 2–2 Rozenvoorde (KOR) (2–2 AET) (4–3 pen.)
Schemerdrecht (KOR) 3–2 Argoen (DRI)

Rozenvoorde stretches it, but comes short on penalties. Schemerdrecht saves the Ko-orenite honour and will play New Amsterdam in the final.

New Amsterdam (IXS) 2–2 Schemerdrecht (KOR) (3–2 AET)

Ngaree Demons (WAR) 16.13.109 def. Eighteen Fighters (CIT) 8.14.62

Waratah has two teams advance to the playoffs and one surviving the semifinals, and why wouldn't they, they brought the sport to the Union. Four out of ten teams are Waratine, with one Fernian, two Milyuae, one Ko-orenite and Seiranesian and one team representing the native peoples of Crux Island as a whole (the island with Waratah, Fern and Protea on it), and that team made it through too (Eighteen Fighters). The grand final will nevertheless go between the Dragons from Milyu and the Demons from Ngaree. Another note: all of Waratah's teams are not from the three large eastern cities, but from 'country' Waratah.

Mawrystwyth Dragons (MIL) 17.23.125 def. Ngaree Demons (WAR) 11.7.73

The Dragons were almighty in the grand final, leaving Ngaree with just 73 points while crossing the 120 themselves. The Milyuae get the first championship win while the Demons were so close, yet so far.

Polaris dominates Gaelic Football (and Hurling), having six out of ten teams in the league. The other teams are from Ko-oren (Amillon), Taloren (Vanutaur) and the Nine Sisters (New Babylon, New Bogota). In the first season, Vanutaur from Taloren has stolen away the victory from the confident Polarians. Ko-oren's Amillon also secured a spot in the top four.

Vanutaur and Amillon advance to the finals, leaving Polaris to the lower eight.

Vanutaur (TAO) 1-13 (16) def. Amillon (KOR) 0-13 (13)

Taloren's Vanutaur secures the first ever championship over Ko-oren's Amillon, who came close but needed just one more goal.

What goes for Gaelic Football, mainly also goes for Hurling. Polarian teams constitute six out of ten spaces, with Ko-oren (Amagoda), Taloren (Efathrad) and the Nine Sisters (New Emona, New Genoa) on the side. The Nine Sisters did great business in the first season, finishing first and second.

Playoffs

New Genoa (IXS) 4-19 (31) def. Fidadhekh (POL) 4-12 (24)

The Nine Sisters' teams push on to the finals, in an all Nonosororitan grand final.

New Emona (IXS) 3-19 (28) def. New Genoa (IXS) 2-15 (21)

New Emona wins the first championship, and Polarians, in both their sports, have a combined zero grand final spots.

New Nagoya (IXS) 28–27 Marinwood (THL)
Toropovo (THL) 29–23 Zuid Tweebergen (WOL)
Yeliseykovo (THL) 22–20 New Genoa (IXS)

No upsets in the first round: especially Mareas and Toropovo who lit up the regular season recorded good victories. It's a tough schedule ahead for New Nagoya and Yeliseykovo to go up against these giants.

Mareas (POL) 27–24 New Nagoya (IXS)
Toropovo (THL) 27–26 Yeliseykovo (THL)

And the home advantage keeps paying off. New Nagoya made the trip all the way to Mareas to lose 27-24, and Yeliseykovo just traveled down the island they were already on to play Toropovo 27-26. The differences are getting smaller, but the top two stays put and advance to the final.

Mareas (POL) 27–21 Toropovo (THL)

Mareas, on neutral ground, stay alive against Toropovo and not just that: they win by 6 goals to give their season the end it deserves. They are already a tough team to beat, and that after just one season of Union handball.

Gridiron - Season 2

The season structure has changed to give all teams more chances to end up in the playoffs, and still making sure that good teams have a larger chance of getting there. There are three parts to the season:

1. Divisional (the divisions stay as they are, with each team playing the division teams once for seven games)
2. Seeded divisions (eight teams are put together in a group: one that was 1st in the divisional round, one that was 2nd in the divisional round, etc. They play each other once for seven games)
3. Seeded groups (the teams are once again mixed up and teams placed first in the Seeded divisions round will play a team that went 4th in that round, 5th in that round and 8th in that round. Similarly there will be groups with 2nd, 3rd, 6th and 7th placed teams).

All group winners from part 3 will go to the playoffs, joined by the four best second placed teams.

This means that the divisions only matter in the first part of the season, keeping rivalries intact but also allowing that one division has no teams in the playoffs whatsoever.

Gridiron - Season 2 Postseason

Week 1:
No. 31 v. No 32: Pereselenets Sparta - San Pedro Keys 0-14
Ko-oren's Bowl: Greencaster Shells - Willowbourne Swans 7-0
Thaulandi's Bowl: Toropovo Matryoshkas - Zernino Krylya 20-16
Nine Sisters' Bowl: New Sydney Wolfpack - New Détroit Lions 19-3

The first week of the postseason has gotten a slightly different meaning. Teams invited to these four Bowl games are based purely off of the first stage, the divisional stage. That means Sparta play the Keys as they both started the season 0-7 even though both redeemed themselves in the second stage. Greencaster play in their second Ko-oren's Bowl after losing last year. Thaulandi's Bowl has two completely different teams, and the Nine Sisters' Bowl is an exact rematch of last year.

Last year's 31-32 Bowl was an insanely fun exercise with 62 points scored total. This year, it's the Keys dominating after a terrible season leaving the Spartans with a bad aftertaste. The Spartans did well after the divisional round and they are left scratching their head why they got shut out this game. They left their prime wide receiver to rest, but a collapse to zero points was more than expected. The Keys did well to exploit this, and the result should give their fans hope for next year.

The Shells win Ko-oren's bowl after leaving it to the Castles last year. They win 7-0 in a defensively good game, and both quarterbacks throwing for zero touchdowns and three interceptions. Gridiron is a fun game for both the offence and defence to show off, and it showed exactly how good defences in Ko-oren are. Well done to both teams, but a pick six sealed the deal.

The Matryoshkas win Thaulandi's Bowl, for the best Thaulandian teams to not make the playoffs. The Matryoshkas' season was a steady decline since the divisional round, while Krylya were exceptional in the interdivisional round (6-1) and suddenly fell down before the qualifying stage (1-2). Krylya has had a true ups and downs season, and they even failed to get the one piece of silverware they could have gotten their hands on.

The Wolfpack win the last prize again, after again defeating the Lions. Last year it was 14-10, this time it's 19-3. A good show from every player, the Nine Sisters' Bowl is the one Bowl game between good teams that play a balanced game instead of full defence or offence. The fact there are less teams from the Nine Sisters means you will see the same teams more often though.

Week 2: Wildcard Round
Aminey Caspians (KOR) 16–3 Novaya Pobeda Kosmonauts (THL)
New Nagoya Cyclones (IXS) 13–10 Gravel Coast Waves (ZAK)
Schemerdrecht Skies (KOR) 3–3 Lena Tsars (THL) (3–10 OT)
Groenhoek Greens (WOL) 17–17 Castelo da Miradela Castles (KOR) (17–20 OT)

Two games were decided in overtime, in other words, we had wildcard games tense until the end. One game was decided by more than one score, and that was the dominating Caspians facing the Kosmonauts. The Caspians entered the playoffs as second placed side after a phenomenal season, so they only confirmed their status. The Cyclones won by a field goal, the Tsars scored a touchdown in overtime to win after a low scoring game, and the Greens and Castles kept it insanely tense until the end, 17-17, as a great commercial for the wildcard round.

Week 3: First Round
Bonesteel Destroyers (THL) 14–17 Aminey Caspians (KOR)
Ansonville Explosions (THL) 27–9 New Nagoya Cyclones (IXS)
Penstead Captains (DRI) 31–20 Lena Tsars (THL)
Maynard Roses (THL) 7–10 Castelo da Miradela Castles (KOR)

The Caspians keep on going and defeat a very good Bonesteel team. Prior to the season and even during the season, these two teams were tipped to play in the U-BOWL and having them in the same first round game is just an insult to both. The Caspians won, moving on to the second round. The Explosions took care of the Cyclones who just came in via the wildcard. It was 27-9: three touchdowns versus three field goals. That was just about the difference in offence and defence between the two teams. Then the Tsars lost against a growing and growing Penstead team. Penstead were 2-5 in the divisional, and look where they are now. To anyone saying that the worse teams in the first stage should not have a chance later on, look at the Captains. Lastly the Castles, after a Ko-oren's Bowl last year, moved on to beat the Roses to bigger and better things.

Week 4: Second Round
Aminey Caspians (KOR) 0–14 Ansonville Explosions (THL)
Penstead Captains (DRI) 3–3 Castelo da Miradela Castles (KOR) (6–13 OT)

The stories of the Caspians and Captains are over. Two teams with the largest chance to make it to the U-BOWL are out, and both 'underdogs' are in. Still, the Explosions went 14-3 during the season after a lackluster divisional 4-3 (yes, they are on 13 straight wins) and the Castles are 7-10 (1-6 divisional). These two teams started off slow but grew to great heights: the U-BOWL.

Week 5: Selenitic Bowl

Team Fire - Team Water 30-21

Team Fire wins again in the second Selenitic Bowl, for players who did not appear in the playoffs.

Week 6: U-BOWL
Ansonville Explosions (THL) 10–3 Castelo da Miradela Castles (KOR)

The Explosions reward themselves after an insane season and 14 straight wins with the U-BOWL! They are the team to beat next year and have proven they can play any game and overcome their opponents. Congratulations! They take the trophy from the Caspians, who won last season.

Phase three: Playoffs
Rowni Roos (WAR) 14–14 New Sydney Sea Eagles (IXS) (14–20 AET)
North Head Eagles (ZAK) 15–16 Mawrystwyth Foxes (MIL)

The Eagles are the only team to make a repeat appearance from last season, but only just seeing their division record. The Sea Eagles represent the Southeast division, evenly split with two points for every team, in the final. The Foxes enter the playoffs like the Eagles: last in their division. The Foxes also ensure that Mawrystwyth have a team in the playoffs again, though last year it was the Dragons. The Roos are the commanding winners of the first and the second phase with a combined 34 points.

New Sydney Sea Eagles (IXS) 17–10 Mawrystwyth Foxes (MIL)

The Sea Eagles win the championship! They climbed to a 10-6 lead by half time, and when the Foxes finally drew level at 10-10 with ten minutes to go, keeping the Sea Eagles scoreless for 30 minutes in the second half, the New Sydney team showed that balance can shift just as easily back in their favour with a try after 73 minutes. To drive in the final nail of the Foxes' coffin, Lewis Porter scored a field goal for a 7 point lead, far too much for the Foxes to fix.

Team of the Season:
Front line: Orlando Ralph (NS Sea Eagles), Aaron Kempster (Awaroa Sailfish), Nicolas Toussaint (Linieux Hawks)
Second row: Finn Clarke (NH Eagles), Lythan Rotherough (Mawrystwyth Dragons)
Third row: Calidieth Darhaniel (Stanneas Bats)
Halves: Lewis Porter (NS Sea Eagles), Gerald Macquarie (Rowni Roos)
Centres: Ceiriog Cecil (Mawrystwyth Foxes), Rangi Wharerau (Awaroa Sailfish)
Wingers: Sean Harper (Chanoogah Pythons), Auburn Madison (NS Sea Eagles)
Fullback: Glanmor Penry (Penstead Wolves)

Weiyao City claim the trophy for themselves, with a clean 6 win final run. Talsheer, from Polaris, surprisingly take second place with another five points to spare over Willowbourne. Willowbourne is the first Ko-orenite team, third place, getting the bronze spot with a matchday 30 win over New Hamburg. From then on we get the close quarters: six teams on 40-43 points, six teams on 36-39 points, and one clear 16th placed team: Aminey.

Rugby Union - Season 2

Bonus point rules:
- Team loses by seven points or less
- Team wins by 19 points or more* (this rule was OOC adopted after the French system, where a team gets a bonus point for scoring three more tries than their opponent. This comes down to 15 points + conversions. The 19 points come from 3 tries for 15 points plus an arbitrary two of those tries converted)

The Chalk Hills Stars go up from 7th to first this year to claim the title! They leave behind Mawrystwyth just barely, but at least the fight for the championship was closer than last year. Two Crux teams and a Nonosororitan team are next up: Wajanong, iThulani and New Sydney. In the New Sydney derby, Zenith overpower Azimuth like last year. Wajanong is the new best team of Crux Island over iThulani with an amazing 8 bonus points. The top half of the table is dominated by Crux teams: Narrawoo, Kimmanee, Ngarese'ene and Puanui together with Wajajong and iThulani. The first Ko-orenite team is Aberworth, barely in the top half. It's safe to say that Crux lit it up, and that Ko-oren, the Nine Sisters and the other nations in the Union came far short - except for Zakhozan's Chalk Hills.

13 Sudilova Neftekhimik 26 10 16 75 92 −17 0.385
14 Kensington Revolution 26 9 17 67 93 −26 0.346

In the Thaulandian conference, Vilki Rubin is chugging along like last season. Torpedo is following suit after a disappointing season, and the Knights, Lokomotiv and Rangers are strong as ever. Three teams really seem to fall behind: the Giants, Neftekhimik and Revolution.

Union Conference Pld W L GF GA GD Win %
1 New Détroit Reds 22 15 7 74 58 +16 0.682

12 New Hamburg Ice Hockey Club 22 7 15 59 77 −18 0.318

The Union conference has more extremes. The Reds and the Wings from New Détroit are keeping up with their awesome season last year, and both of the city's prides are en route to the playoffs. In between are the Scouts, back from a bad position last year. The Scouts are one of the Union's oldest and most prestitigious clubs, and they are where they deserve to be. New Amsterdam is following in the Nonosororitan top four, and Zakhozan has the Glaciers in fifth. At the bottom, there are the three other Nine Sisters teams: the Islanders, Katanas and New Hamburg.

End of the Regular Season
Thaulandian Conference Pld W L GF GA GD Win %

14 Kensington Revolution 52 18 34 132 189 −57 0.346

Torpedo fell to sixth and no special status, and Vilki, Maynard and Perelesenets go to the playoffs. Ansonville came close to snatch a spot from the group of last year's good teams, but are one win short.

Union Conference Pld W L GF GA GD Win %
1 Schemerdrecht Scouts 44 29 15 155 139 +16 0.659

12 New Nagoya Katanas 44 15 29 108 144 −36 0.341

Schemerdrecht set up a brilliant scheme of their own to finish first in the conference! Both of New Détroits teams follow up, and the Wings almost got overtaken by the Explorers. New Hamburg redeemed themselves, and only the Katanas finish below .400.

The Wings move on to also claim the title in Season 2. Vilki Rubin finish second once again. The Reds and the Wings looked to dominate the playoffs until Rubin's third game win over the Reds: the Thaulandian teams just came short against the Union, again. Is it the longer schedule? Anyhow, the Scouts are the only unmentioned playoff team, and they have been close to the Wings, but came close in the semis. Ko-oren's pride is catching up.

12 wins are required in the first 20 rounds to make it to the provisional playoffs. The Nine Sisters have one team in, in first place, with New Babylon Energy. That city has numerous professional teams across the Union in many sports, but only Energy seems to be a respected side. Then the San Dionisio Argonauts share the amount of wins but nowhere near the PD. Kang Rao is represented in the Tigers at 14 wins. The Paraíso Bulls are the first Santa Teresan team in. The Santa Teresans are crazy about basketball and out of the 28 teams, 6 are from that nation. They have a second team in the playoffs as well: the Santiago Hurricanes. Those two teams come off of good seasons and seem to continue this year. Then there are three teams on the minimum required 12 wins: Groenvoorde, from the Wolf Islands, iMangatshebale, and Santa Isabel. Ko-oren has four teams but are mysteriously absent from the top eight.

8 Teragaseki Pulse 40 23 17 3147 3144 +3 0.575

And now it's .575 instead of .600 that gets you in the top eight. Some shifts, but other things remain the same: Energy is on the run of a lifetime scoring almost 10 points more than their opponents on average. With 30 wins, they are a full .100 over the Tigers. And the fight for home advantage in round one continues: three teams on 25 wins, and two of them can get home: Santiago, San Dionisio and Paraíso. Those three are old friends of the top parts of the table, all from Santa Teresa and the Six Saints. The other three fought their way into the top eight: New Détroit, Colorado (a third Santa Teresan team) and Ko-oren's Teragaseki.

8 Teragaseki Pulse 60 36 24 4694 4581 +113 0.600

And the top eight is back to .600. Incredible how the rich got richer and the poor got poorer in the last 20 games. New Babylon won nine and gave up 11 in the last 20, and they are level with the Bulls now. The Tigers and the Hurricanes all stick around, while the Snipers climb up. The Suns are also just one win out of first place, while in sixth! And the Argonauts and Pulse complete the top eight. The Rubies, great in their first season, need three wins to make the playoffs. Santa Isabel need five after a great season start, and so does Groenvoorde.

And that's it. New Babylon Energy was in first all season but finish sixth, playing their playoffs away from home. The Bulls claim the regular season title, with the Snipers in second. The Spartans weren't even in the top eight all season until the end and have home advantage for the first round. The Argonauts from San Dionisio complete the top four, all from different nations. Teragaseki Pulse, New Babylon Energy, Santiago Hurricanes and iMangatshebale Pride are also in. The top of the league has .667 and .593 was needed to get in the playoffs. For some reason there is a full game gap between the top eight and the rest of the table. Further down we find the Suns just at ninth, the Rubies at 11th, the Tigers at 13th (!), and all the way at the bottom there are five teams with thirty wins in 81 games for a five-way tie at .370.
