The needs of the Knootian Defence Force in the 21st Century dictate that we gain the capability for domestic production of a modular vehicle that can replace the domestically produced Schaatsen modular armoured platform, which performs a similar role to the WUAP system but which is far heavier and lacks many of its protective features. The need for standardisation within the Knootian Defence Force demands that a variant vehicle be adopted, and so we pose the following inquiries (technical documentation attached):

1) Can the internal hardware and software of the WUAP be made compatible with the CAESAR battlefield management system to perform the networking capabilities that are presently performed by BASTION? If so, would the cooperation of Shwerpunt Armaments with the CAESAR Industries team impose additional costs?

2) Would it be feasible to replace the turbocharged 8 cylinder water cooled diesel engine with a hybrid diesel-electric engine? If so, how would this affect performance, using the best technology available to us now?

3) Would it be possible to acquire rights to the Iron Tide APS system separately for use in other battlefield systems, for example our line of Stadtholder tanks? This is, again, under the proviso that Iron Tide can be made to work with the CAESAR battlefield management system.

We are pleased you find interest in the WUAP and Iron Tide. Both are excellent systems of value to any modern fighting force. We are happy to reply to your request for further information:

1) BASTION is not an integral system, and the WUAP like all other Schwerpunkt products is perfectly capable of operating with other battle management systems. Naturally, if Schwerpunkt resources are to be used to install the CAESAR system on the WUAP, this will require payment. However, assuming CAESAR is a "plug and play" system like most modern BMS, it is highly unlikely such assistance will be needed.

2) Using technologies such as the ones pioneered by various truck makers world wide(the WUAP is indeed powered by an engine very similar to a commercial heavy truck) it will be possible to put a hybrid diesel-electric power-train. We believe that the difference in performance would be negligible, and in fact we predict somewhat of an increase in acceleration from 0 km/h to 30 km/h. Fuel consumption would naturally be reduced. The possible issues are the increased size of the engine, added complexity and cost of production and replacement.

3) The question of compatibility between CAESAR and Iron Tide can only be answered with full information of CAESAR. If you provide us with such information we will be happy to test the the issue. In any case this will require some rewriting of the software for both systems, and possibly the hardware to allow the systems to communicate with each other. In any case it is probably well with in the technological capacity of our company and your engineers.

As for purchasing rights to install Iron Tide on your vehicles as standard, this is entirely possible. Even if you intend to market the vehicles to other nations. Assuming you are interested a price can be negotiated.

Having consulted with Nimrod BV and the Knootian Automotive Industry Cooperative, the Ministry has been assured that the cost, delay and potential drawbacks of integrating the Iron Tide system into the existing range of Stadtholder main battle tanks are all manageable. The system will be made compatible with CAESAR and will continue to use several elements that are already represented in these platforms, including the Spiegel class ground RADAR and existing hardware for Active Electronic Countermeasures. This will make backfitting the system onto the units that are currently in service significantly less problematic. Details for a profit-sharing agreement for each unit that is exported using the system is included as an attachment to this missive. Production rights for the domestic needs of the Knootian Federation member states will be covered by the government of the Dutch Democratic Republic.

The Knootian Defence Force has further expressed interest in the acquisition of domestic production rights for the WUAP-APC, WUAP-SPM, WUAP-Fitter, WUAP-TCV and WUAP-ESV, assuming that a suitable hybrid diesel-electric engine can be developed. Inclusion of the WUAP-IFV and the WUAP-ATGM depends on the possibility to successfully introduce Peil missile designs to these platforms. While the Knootian Defence Force is committed to getting the best systems for its operations, there is a legitimate concern that further hybridisation of the missile arsenal will compromise logistical efficiency. An order for three WUAP-APC's, three WUAP-IFV's and three WUAP-ATGM's is therefore included with this missive so that our domestic producers can work on a proof-of-concept. The government of the Dutch Democratic Republic also intends to lobby some of its Western Atlantic partners to participate in the development of this system for regional needs.

Having reviewed the available data, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Defence is not yet sold on the so-called "Evil Eye" technology that is central to the WUAP-RFV. Without pressing your company to divulge proprietary information, we would appreciate a more detailed briefing on the advantages and disadvantages of this system, as compared to existing modes of increasing battlefield awareness.
