IC
The First World War, also known as the Great War or the War to End All Wars, was one of the bloodiest conflicts ever fought in history and changed the world for decades to come. Its effects were widespread, even on countries who didn't even take part in the war. The fighting slowly devolved into brutal trench warfare. Filthy battlefields, disease, and wounds were widespread ailments in the war and killed more people than actual combat did. The trenches were known to be horrible, but it was the futile attacks on the other side's trenches that really did more damage. Machine guns and accurate, rapid-fire howitzers in particular did horrific things to the old massed infantry formations of the 19th century.
You are a soldier on the Western Front in the trenches, in the combined British and French 77th Rifles Regiment while your German opponent is the 38th Royal Grenadiers Regiment. The year is late 1915. If you get sent to an attack on No Man's Land, it's a death sentence for those unlucky enough to be chosen. So don't get sent there. The last thing a soldier who wants to live is getting sent "over the top". The 77th and 38th are each considered excellent fighting units by generals who have no idea how they actually are in combat. For that reason they don't want to risk their so-called elite soldiers to get wasted in meat grinder battles. Men who are put into these two combat units are lucky.
How this RP will work
The RP will have a rank system like almost all other military RPs. I will be the overall commander of the Entente forces as a Colonel of the regiment. I will also choose a person to be the Colonel of the German forces. Rank will then go down from there. Please don't all be officers, we need to have some enlisted men as well.

My application:
Name: Thomas Edward Mitchell, Baron of Pertwall
Age: 27
Rank: Colonel
Specialty: Mitchell is skilled in the technical and engineering aspects of warfare and would have become a technical officer if not for his wealthy family's influence, getting him promoted to a rank of higher stature. Unwilling to attack, as he knows he'll die in the attack as well, Mitchell just wants to tie up the German regiment and avoid combat.
Birthplace: Canterbury, England
Appearance: Desert khaki uniform with green overcoat, black gloves, and black boots. Nobody really knows what he looks like due to a reserved personality and a balaclava.
Weapons: Berthier carbine, FN M1910 pistol, Knife
Items: Chocolate bars, Ace of Spades
Biography: Born in 1888 to a wealthy family, Thomas adored the military his whole life. His parents, Ronald and Lisa, caught on early and also wanted to give him a proper education in case he didn't get his chance to become a soldier. Going through mandatory school and the higher forms of education, Thomas then enlisted into the military as a Captain instead of a Second Lieutenant due to the family's wide array of connections. Unfortunately, his departure meant the descent of the Mitchell family into disarray. Thomas' mother had been killed in a freak accident, putting Ronald into depression. He eventually died, taking his own life. The family was devastated but it still stood.
Thomas' life in the military was easy. Promotions happened regularly because of his family being one of the more important and influential ones in Britain. The fact that he was also a great tactician helped too. Fighting in the Second Boer War, Mitchell made a name for himself as a good leader who really did care about his men.. Now that World War 1 has started, the Colonel and his regiment are in Northern France facing off against their enemies, the Germans.
