Saying hello in our nation happens to be more art than science.

In our culture, politeness plays a major role, but it also gives value to social insults. As such, the best way to greet someone is to insult them just a little below the threshold where they would be offended. This threshold depends greatly on familiarity, of course.

The ritual usually consists of a question and a rude answer to it. The most common business greeting is "Wassup man?" responded to with "F--- you nigga".
Those who don't remember history, are blessed to believe anything is possible when they're repeating it.

English is the most widely spoken language in Wintanceastre, however Kernowek also exists. Kernowek is further divided into two dialects, which can vary widely at times. St. John's Kernowek is used in St. John's Province of Bryher Island, while Drake's Isle Kernowek is used in the Province of Drake's Isle. St. John's Kernowek has more influence from English than Drake's Isle Kernowek does, and centuries of separation has caused them to evolve differently. Below are phrases in both.

Drake's Isle Kernowek
Hello: Hou/you/yow

How are you: Fatla genes?
Goodbye: Duw genes
Good morning: Myttin da
Good afternoon: Dohajydh da

Being a part of the US, Liberty's official language is english. However, just simply stating that doesn't give insight into the unique way the language of the state has evolved overtime, so the brave journalist Lazlo Jones ventured all over Big Applesauce, from the skyscrapers in Algonquin to the projects in Bohan, and tried to get a more realistic sense of the language in Liberty, while barely escaping with his life.

The language of Yossarian Herr is Eilandlijk. Eilandlijk is practically identical to Dutch, except it has a few local words, some of which were taken from the language of the indigenous Herr people who live on the island of Pianosa.

Hello - Hallo
How are you?- Hoe gaat het (met je/u)?
My name is... - Mijn naam is...
Welcome - Welkom
Goodbye - Wees vrolijk ---> This means something along the lines of "be happy". This phrase is used in Dutch in other contexts but is used to say goodbye in Eilandlijk.

We just sing our names.

[Mama adds: Telepathy makes communication a lot simpler. If two of my Children meet up with each other, they can immediately tell how the other is feeling through the "life auras" their angels project. So, simple things like "are you there?", "who are you?", "how are you doing?" and so on are answered before they're even asked. My Children tend to be very direct; the concept of "small talk" is unknown to them. They don't need to set the tone of a conversation; it's established before they even start consciously communicating.

In the case of long-distance communication through the angel network, it's customary for a Child to transmit their names to their conversation partner and wait to be acknowledged by receiving the other Child's name, or be told their partner's unavailable. A Child's name is just a series of musical notes, a numerical string that's translated into a melody. So, conversations among my Children usually start with a duet of the two names sung and responded to.]
