Type Kairyu nuclear attack submarine, also known as Xray II class nuclear attack submarine by the codename that was given to it by western navies, is a Nihonese SSN (Submersible Ship Nuclear), a nuclear attack submarine designed as first of new Kairyu series to replace Type L56 SSN from Nihonese navy. Major task of this enormous warship is to combat enemy aircraft carriers, as well as enemy submarines. It already has been nicknamed by many navies "Nihonese Black Hole" due to the fact that it is most quiet of Nihonese submarines yet built.

Hull:

"Sea Dragon" is using two-hull design, composed of two hulls, second inside the first one. The task of inner pressure hull one is to withstand water pressure while the majority of protection against mechanical damage is provided by hydrodynamic (outer) hull. Shape in which Kairyu was shaped into was designed to provide minimal acoustic signature and minimal water resistance. To allow the Kairyu to break through the tick ice on the Northen Furukuran sea, cover of the sail was additionally reinforced while the sail itself has been reduced in height for length and also houses a radar mast, two optronic/periscope masts (one for commander, one for crew), communications mast and navigation mast, mounted on top of it. Just below the sail are mounted twin front horizontal hydroplanes, which are generally short and are able to be retracted into the hull should need arise. At the rear of the submarine are four pitch to turn fins, with upper one possessing increased bulb housing the towed array.

Both hulls are separated by about 3.5 m thick space, argumentation buoyancy and survival ability. The component used in building the hull is titanium, with additional cover of anechoic tiles. While seriously increasing costs, titanium provides the submarine with amazing resistance to magnetic anomaly detection (MAD) and water pressure. In 2014 a team led by Cpt. Hashimoto from the 2nd Home Fleet of Kaigun conducted tests on one of prototypes, descending on 700m and successfully surfacing. While such feats are uncalled for, they prove how durable this submarine is. After that to add to the protection and increase security of the crew the hull was divided into seven autonomous compartments separated from each other by titanium walls, from which one serves as crew living quarters, and one as operations center, another houses the reactor, engine, etc. Only those two sections are traditionally manned, which allows the modular design to provide far increased chance for crew to survive impact of eventual torpedo or some accident.

Forward part of the hull houses enormous WA 29 passive sonar which due to it's sheer size forced moving the torpedo tubes backwards, just below the sail. Additionally Kairyu was equipped with several VLS tubes fitting for various types of missiles.

Propulsion:

"Kairyu" is propelled by a single KJ - XII IVth generation lead bismuth fast reactor with 210 MW power mounted within it's hull, using a mixture of lead and bismuth as heat exchange material instead of water. KJ - XI operates on closed fuel cycle, which allows it to have enormous lifespan (over 30 years). Lead works as excellent gamma ray shield, deflecting neutrons escaping the core. The reactor features series of innovative solutions that allowed it to function properly; to prevent corrosion of elements drowned in molten lead, core mean outlet operates at reduced temperature of just 480* and all mechanism are outside the coolant. Aluminium was chosen as material for heat transfer surfaces. To counter the issue posed by large mass of lead, the reactor vessel has been made shorter, thus dispensing the weight (which forced increase of weight of the submarine itself, but to considerable extent). As material to generate the power, enriched uranium-225 is used. KJ - XII reactor, while a bit costly, offers a lot of advantages over traditional water - cooled nuclear reactor, although posing also some potential problems. One of major advantages is the ability to change whole core instead of refueling it, which increases lifetime of KJ - XII and reduces costs of operating at the same time - especially recommended for countries with lack of nuclear infrastructure on their own. In addition Lead Bismuth fast reactor is much safer than water - cooled reactor since it can't cause explosion because lead quickly solidifies in cause of leak, thus preventing the potential explosion and does not require electricity to cool it down after shut-down. Major problems however with this reactor are the solidifying of lead, making KJ - XII require constant maintenance by qualified personnel. Another issue can be bismuth's transmutation to highly radioactive Polonium, which has however been highly reduced by high automation of the reactor operations. In addition upon order there is a chance to replace KJ - XII with another reactor of the client's choice, which however will require extra costs to cover design changes.

Main propeller of the Kairyu is a pump jet propulsion system which holds the propeller blades pressurized, greatly decreasing cavitation thus decreasing level of noise that submarine emits, increasing the speed on which submarine may still uphold the stealth needed for the operation. It has to be noted that the one mounted on KR487, designed by Washi, resembles more jet engine than a conventional submarine screw - based propeller. It's major component is an enormous cylindrical shroud housing inlet and outlet, covering a rotating hub to which the blades are attached and a stator. Entire system is powered by a powerful electric motor that spins the propeller blades around. Several support vanes are responsible for connecting the shroud to the rotating propeller and keeping the structure together. This sort of propeller provided Kairyu with several advantages, such as reduced noise due to the fact that shroud posseses extremely well developed noise - blocking capabilities. Due to the fact that flow of the water is mostly unencumbered, the propulsion of the Kairyu possesses far better thrust output while maintaining good stealth capability.

Sensors:

Major sensor of the Kairyu is Washi Passive/Active Sonar 1830, which is a self sustaining sonar system in which submarine is equipped consisting of roughly about 14 000 hydrophones from various subsystems consisting the P/AS 1830, which are:

- Single WA 29 bow mounted spherical passive / active sonar, notable for it's enormous size which was cause of the submarine's torpedo tubes being pushed backwards. The enormous sonar provides multiple functions such as broadband detection, automatic target tracking, audio recording, TMA (target motion analysis), target identification or torpedo warning. The sonar operates on frequency between 0,3 kHz to 12 kHz and provides 0,5* bearing accuracy in ideal conditions. The enormous sonar is more than capable of tracking quiet targets at even long ranges. Range is up to 120km.

- Two WA 31 very low frequency active sonar mounted in blow and sail, operating on bandwidth of 8 to 12 kHz. Due to ability of VLF emissions to easily traverse waves, chance to detect enemy at far longer range was significantly increased.

- Two side WA 38 flank array sonar systems operating on high frequency, for observing targets on the sides of the submarine, built out of operating on bandwidth below 3200 Hz is composed of ultra - thin panels and features very efficient system responsible for filtering out submarine's own noise. Bearing accuracy is approximately 1*.

- Single WA S2 is a very low frequency towed array sonar mounted in structure on submarine's top fin operating in bandwidth between 100 and 1600 kHz providing 360 degree coverage for the submarine. Capable of being deployed at maximal speed of 12 knots for 10 minutes, and itself being maximum 120 meters in length this very thin towed array suite works increasingly well in both oceanic and deep sea environments. Bearing accuracy is roughly 0,5*.

- Washi Echo sounder 1515, responsible for measuring the distance between submarine and bottom of the sea.

- WA 44-1 is a mine and obstacle avoidance sonar operating on bandwidth of 70 to 100 kHz with 120 horizontal and 90* vertical degrees scan area.

- Funryu Type 2 Mark 2 Model 1 is a non - hull breaching mast housing radar operating in I - band. The antenna itself features end fed slotted line array and horizontal polarization. Another important features are low electricity consumption, low signature and short - medium pulse lengths. Funryu can track up to 50 targets, and possess target acquisition capability argumented by selectable zone mode.

-Funryu F1 is an non - hull penetrating optronic mast currently in use on Kairyu incorporating a whole array of sensors used to detect enemy platforms which include thermal IR, true HD imagining CCTV and ESM systems mounted inside. Responsible for wide range of observation is mounted on 3d stabilization axis. Mast is equipped with an Advanced Man / Machine interface which makes it simple to use and provides quick data analysis on demand. Due to structure possessing low RCS / acoustic and visual signatures, the mast can easily be employed without revealing the submarine's location. Maximal employment speed is 12 knots, 16 is maximum survival. Two such masts are mounted on kairyu, one for Captain and one for the crew.

Additionally the submarine is equipped with Murakami MSC - 8 sonar intercept receiver capable of detecting both single and multiple sonar pulse from over 90km distance at 5 kHz frequency, and an IFF (IFF - 21) system built by the same company.

Control System:

The submarine is equipped with newest control systems built by Washi, which were created to ensure maximum automatisation. The systems include:

- Washi Hamoni-12 command and control (C2) system gathering and processing data from all important components of submarine. Hydroacoustics, radars, optics, ESM, navigation and other important systems are being gathered and processed through this system. On basis of this data the system can determine exact speed, trajectory and distance of target. The data are display on LCD screen on the bridge, alongside with other control terminals.

- Sogeki - Hei 8 weapon control system for command and control (C2) of the attack. Sogeki - Hei 8 has both the cruise missiles, torpedoes and counter - measures linked to it and can be used in both manned and automatic version.

- Washi Fukai 2 navigation and course control system. Fukai 2 is capable of controlling the speed, depth and course as well as planing and executing, both manually or automatically, advanced maneuverers.

- Washi Doramu 5 is capable of gathering and processing information, as well as controlling all machinery mounted on the KR487 submarine, reducing manning of the reactor and other machinery to minimum and allowing to reduce amount of crew present on ship.

- Washi Rosoku 3 a radiation monitoring system capable of gathering and processing information about state of the reactor and radiation it emits.

- Yamakusa Y7F1 telescopic communications mast is a telescopic submarine antenna operating on high frequency (HF) between 10 kHZ and 30 mHZ and with maximum input power of 0.5 kW. The mast can be extended to 4,4 meters (when collapsed) and 7,5 meters (when fully extended). Built from epoxy glass fiber with naval brass metallic parts as one - part design, Y7F1 proven itself to be highly resistant, corrosion - free and reliable. Maximum expansion speed is 13 knots, the mast depth

New addition to the submarine's intelligence gathering capabilities is the Yamakusa Kagekame (Shadow Turtle) multi purpose buoy, designed especially for high - threat environments, where likeness of submarine's detection is enormous. Kamekage is connected to the submarine with two - way fiber optic cable, providing swift transfer of data, and can be equipped with multiple devices, including, but not limited to, communications devices, electronic warfare gear, AXISAT positioning system or TV/IR camera for observation of surface contacts at any time of the day, etc. To minimize the chance of detection, main body - being about a 1.6 meter tall and one in diameter - was optimized for low RCS and low wake signature, usually being pained in dark blue colour to avoid contrasting with the sea, even though only top part - roughly several centimeters - actually finds itself above sea level. Successfully recovery tests have been performed on speed as much as 4 knots. Communications variant can sustain as much as 2200 ping seconds of transit using lithium - ion batteries after being detached and operates on frequency of 1.8 kHz. Other choice in communications buoy involves Yamakusa 8P2 communications buoy, which is a towed, expendable two way communications buoy operating usually at 1.8 kHz frequency to communicate between submarine and land based systems. The buoy itself is only 25 centimeters in length when combined with the submarine launch vehicle (SLV). Being able to be deployed from as much as 250 meters, 8P2 heads up to the surface where it can remain active for 72 hours of operation or 1800 total ping seconds of transmit using lithium batteries. Total custom programming capability allows the operator to set up the broadcast at time when the submarine will be far away, denying the enemy chance to detect it's location, with expandable cable connecting the submarine to buoy extending for several miles. This system is extremely important for any submarine, due to ability to transmit data between the C4ISTAR assets and the launch platform. Both systems can be easily attached to the sail or deck without disturbing the structure in any way.

Armaments & Countermeasures:

Main armament of "Sea Dragon" are eight torpedo tubes mounted behind the sonar array. The submarine possesses 4x 533mm tubes and 4x 650mm tubes (the last ones serving to sink heavier warships). This allows the TYPE KR487 to launch variety of ASuW and ASW torpedoes, missiles such as Harpoon or mines, successfully allowing the ship to partake in mine warfare operations. It is estimated that the submarine can carry around 38 missiles and torpedoes ready to be tube launched.

The ship is also equipped with 16 VLS tubes that can incorporate wide range of weaponry - packing either 32 NY-4 / Wave Arrow 4 or YU-28.

In addition Kairyu is equipped with SAMast 8, a mast with a box launcher for 4 Type 5 Rakurai MANPADS coupled with an IR camera, allowing the submarine to fire them from under the water, engaging eventual ASW helicopters.

The submarine is also equipped with system of acoustic countermeasures mounted in special tubes on the fins and within the superstructure, called WaShi WSC - 03. The system is composed of the launchers releasing so called effectors into the water, as well as an integrated Command & Control system that automatically detects the torpedo, calculates safest escape route while at command releases the countermeasure. Codenamed WS - M - 7, said countermeasure is stored externally and launched on operator's command. 100 mm in diameter and 1100mm long, WS - M - 7 moves onto depth pre - selected by the operator via it's own contra - propeller motor, then hovers on said depth. Equipped with an acoustic projector, WS - M - 7 causes the enemy torpedo to "see" multiple false targets forcing it to home on them, allowing the real submarine to escape. Being completely user programable, WS - M - 7 can be programmed for any mission until the launch, then it executes the task and falls onto the bottom of the sea once it is completed.

[*] Price: N$D 1.79 million per unit.
[*] Domestic Production Rights: DPR limited to close allies, SACTO or associate nations. Consult New Aeyariss or Nachmere for DPR.

The NY (Namiya - Wave Arrow) - 4 missile family codenamed NS - N - 12 Shipburn, also sometimes codenamed "Naginata" before it entered service is a supersonic, short - range anti - shp missile family from the Empire of Greater Nihon developed in late 2010s, which entered service in 2013, designed for bringing down heavily defended surface vessels. It was adapted by Nachmerian armed forces after it entered Nihonese service due to cooperation on the development stage, in particular Nachmerian companies delivering technologies needed to create the engine - thus NY - 4 is aksi known as NS-4 Shaldag in Nachmerian service. Conceptual design was aimed at targeting hostile carriers, air defense ships and other major surface combatants, with additional anti - radiation and land attack versions appearing later to fill various holes in multiple unis. From the beginning NY - 4 was based around incorporation of modular design, allowing mass production of different models with only minimal differences in tooling and equipment and reducing maintenance costs.

"Wave Arrow" is 820 centimeters long and weights 3500 kilograms in ground launched variant with warhead alone having weight of 250 kilograms in said version. Attached to the main, circular body of the missile produced from graphite polyimide composites, are four aft antisymmetric inlets powering four liquid - fuel ramjets providing it propulsion during the flight, after the initial booster stage, with the solid fuel booster occupying most of the lower part. Full integration of the ramjet inlets into the airframe successfully ensures that the ramjet inlets won't interrupt with the warhead and reduces weight of the missile. On the ramjet engines were mounted two sets of yaw to turn folded delta wings responsible for maneuvering: first, longer set, is placed in the middle of the missile, while the second, shorter set, is located at the end of the ramjets, using tail control as the method of controlling missile during the flight. Flight control surfaces are folded when "naginata" rests within the launcher tube. Spherical shaped dome, housing various sensors depending on version, is situated at the top of NY-4 and was crafted out of zinc sulfide, providing all crucial sensors housed inside with proper dielectric constant and protection from traverse strength and rain erosion needed for multi spectrum seeker housed inside.

To decrease the cost of the munition, various new techniques were used, such as ceramic tooling which allows to produce the entire airframe as single cast. Crew of the Murakami Electronics did everything in their power to lower the amount of parts located inside the missile to needed minimum, thus increasing reliability and simplicity of the design - which included casting entire airframe as a single cast, or using low - cost but reliable commercial parts for several elements, such as guidance, control or engine. This unique combination makes NY - 4 simple to use, easy to operate and upkeep by nations with restricted budgets.

Responsible for propulsion are solid fuel booster and four liquid fuel ramjet engines (although, land based variant incorporates possibility of attachment of two rocked boosters to the sides, between the ramjets - a variant intended mostly for coastal defense formations) fueled by 500kg of RJ-7 high density fuel. Ramjet engine allows NY-4 to reach top speed of MACH 2.7 and range of 320 kilometers on attitude of 15km, on 150 kilometers when sea skimming 20 meters above sea level.

Murakami VLS008 chip provides integration of all critical components into one alongside enormous computing power needed to maintain all the electronics. Responsible for midcourse guidance up to target is gimbal ring inertial guidance backed up with AXISAT. NY-4 possess also one of most sophisticated seeker systems ever build by the Nihonese arms industry codenamed W-8. W-8 weights 70 kilograms on it's own and can detect a target up to 50 kilometers away during up to sea state 7 on ± 40° search angle. This two channel active/passive radar proven itself extremely resistant to ECM and chaff provides wideband frequency agile waveform pseudorandomly varied spread spectrum modulation alongside passive anti - radiation capability, depending on mode. Design is modular and incorporates antenna, transmitter, receiver and the processing unit, which can be exchanged if an upgrade is needed, with innovative production techniques used during production decreases costs of such advanced system. That, combined with two - way low power data link, makes NY-4 formidable foe to any air defense system. Many versions include also "wolf pack" mode - at first, missiles before launch are programmed with tactical information, priorities, and other needed information. Then, during the flight, missiles link with each other, with their computers classifying the targets according to the importance and deciding which one should act as a decoy to draw the defender's attention and which should be used to deliver the kill. Once the main targets designated by the operators are destroyed, missiles redistribute the attack among the lesser targets.

The target is destroyed by 250 kilogram warhead, equipped with void sensor which detonates is milliseconds after the missile breached the ship's hull, greatly increasing damage.

- NY-4TA: Ground launched variant.

- NY-4KU Air launched variant.

- NY-4WO: Anti - radiation variant with high quality passive radar seeker.

TYPE YU - 7 / YAWARA/ TORA Coastal Defence System

Postby New Aeyariss » Mon Apr 27, 2015 5:49 pm

TYPE YU (EVENING TIDE) - 7
Image

TYPE YU-7 ASHM

Price (unit): N$D 1 980 000
Price (DPR): N$D 198 000 000

  • Length: 3.82m
  • Weight: 420kg
  • Range: 200km at attitude of about 10 meters in ground launched version / 250km in air launched version
  • Speed: 924 km/h
  • Warhead: 130kg
  • Guidance: InfraRed Imagining system, two way data link, inertial, AXISAT/GPS/GLONASS (on client's demand).

The Type YU - 7 (Yuushio - evening tide) also known as NS - N - 3 Wormwood or "Yawara" before the development is an anti ship missile was created by Nihonese conglomerate called Murakami Ironworks following orders from the Imperial Nihonese Navy, for a smaller, low RCS cruise missile as armament for aircraft and smaller surface ships, due to the fact that at that time Kaigun's armaments, while working perfectly on enemy big surface combatants, were unsuited for use of light surface strike forces, such as missile boats or corvettes. After realizing that, R&D was given task to develop a new, light but deadly weapon that will be able to supplement Type 700 Senpu and NY - 4 during the operations. This new new missile had to be short, light and powerful enough to perform in littoral environments of the island zones of South Furukuran sea.

YU - 7 is over 3.82m. The missile itself has weight of 420kg, with 130kg warhead. It lacks classic design of anti - ship missile; instead of round shapes the edges were cut to reduce the radar cross section (RCS) as much as this is possible, to grant the missile stealth capabilities. The noose of the missile was cut and shaped to reduce the radar signature, avoiding round surfaces; it' s lower part is created to house dual color InfraRed Imagining system acting as main guidance. Evening Tide 7 has also two fin rows mounted in the middle and at the back of the hull, arrayed among the yaw to turn axis in the shape of letter X, greatly increasing missile's flight performance compared to traditional bank to turn design. During the time when Yawara stored inside the container, the fins are bent and straighten up after the missile leaves the tube or detaches itself from the wing of an aircraft. Inlet of the engine was placed below the the stern and reduced in. At the end of the missile is detachable afterburner. To further enhance stealth capabilities, most of YW - 7' hull was built with advanced composite material absorbing radar waves, tough, because of costs, not all of it was built from them. The small size of the missile allows it to be placed within the bomb bays of most aircraft such as F - 35 or A18T, allowing them to retain the stealth capability while engaging in ASuW duties.

Two stage solid fuel booster and turbojet a are responsible for construction; both of them constructed by Kojima company, with turbojet utilizing solid fuel known as XP - 7. XP - 7 was developed by Tsukumo Petrochemicals for use in engines that require clean burning or good low temperature performance, XP - 7 is made as mixture of three hydrocarbons: methylcyclohexane, perhydronorbornadiene dimer, and exo - tetrahydrodicyclopentadiene. Placed within the YU - 7's hull is K0 - P5 turbojet engine, characterized by low fuel usage. High thrust to weight ratio produced by K0-P5 provides the missile with extremely good maneuverability needed to bypass the enemy's countermeasures in case of detection, as well as long range, over 200km in sea - skimming mode at attitude of about 10 meters in ground launched version and 250km in air launched version. Engine can sustain high subsonic (924 km/h), which, coupled with YU-7's s reduced RCS giving it stealth capability required to bypass hostile countermeasures. In case of VLS - launched version the engine's burn begins in the tube, which brings "Evening Tide" to the flight speed then detaches itself while YU-7 leaves the tube in position of downside up, allowing the engine to inhale more air, switching to sustainer after the afterburner detaches itself. Maximum sea condition for the launch is state 5.

"Evening Tide" is equipped with gimbal ring inertial guidance system reinforced with AXISAT, allowing the missile to confirm it's localization at ease and greatly increasing accuracy. Tough domestic Nihonese versions use AXISAT network, on client's demand there is a possibility for installing other (GPS, GLONASS) guidance system. Any version is equipped with two way low power (thus harder to intercept) data link, allowing the operator to track the missile during flight, control the target selection and adjust it's course. Entire flight pattern can be programmed, allowing to conceal the point of launch.

Murakami S98 VLSI chip is responsible for coordination of electronics mounted on the missile. Even tough YU-7 missile lacks active guidance, it was done to prevent the enemy to counter detect it before it reaches target. Main sensor is two color infra - red imagining with smart target reference system, fully resistant to modern anti - IR countermeasures, coupled with passive radar homing. Infra Red guidance is advanced enough to allow the operator to specify exact point in which the missile has to strike, giving it much more punch than it's small size will allow - with no issues it can be aimed at the bridge, VLS cells, engine or AEGIS system. Lack of active guidance increases the overall stealth and renders any ECM fruitless.

Usual warhead weights 130kg with delayed contact detonator, which detonates the missile after it has penetrated the target, thus granting it bigger damage. Elastic constructions allows however to mount in there electronic warfare or reconnaissance systems there instead in future constructions.

There are currently three versions of the missile:

Yu - 7B: ground launched.

Yu - 7V: air launched.

Yu - 77: air launched, anti radiation missile; IR seeker replaced with passive homing radar covering whole spectrum. Extended range to 300km.

TORA (TIGER) COASTAL DEFENCE SYSTEM
Image
Image

"Tora" is a coastal defence system based around the YW - 7 missile, created for the Nihonese navy (Kaigun) as a way to enforce sea denial in narrow waters such as Jakarnapura. The system consists of three YW - 7 missile launchers mounted on Ueda 720 truck, Ta - Se 8 3D medium range mobile radar mounted on the same vehicle and a command post. Ueda 720 is very popular platform for Nihonese military systems, Ueada known for it's ability to operate in any terrain as well as strong construction. There is option to buy a whole battery.

Ta - Se 8 radar:

Ta - Se 8 is a surface search radar mounted on Ueda 720 truck, a classic "gap filler" with longer range radars operated by the armies. It's major role is basic information provider for own forces and replacement of longer range radars in case of their destruction. It works in S - band (current NATO F band), covers 20* angle, turns ten times per minute and 200kw power. The S band allows the system to decrease the size of the major antenna, but provides optimal detection range and accuracy, as well as good resistance for enemy's electronic attacks. The radar grants 70km range of detection of naval targets, and is equipped with advanced IFF system. It takes about eight minutes to unpack and prepare the radar for operations.

Composition:

1x Command Vehicle
1x Ta - se 8 radar station
3x Ueda 720 carrying four box launchers with YW - 7B each. Note that the YW - 7 missiles are to be bought separately.

PRICE: 142 million N$D per unit (radar station, command vehicle, 3x truck + launcher).

Type Junsen JS - 18 SSGN, being acronym of Junsen-gata sensuikan 18, literally meaning Cruiser Submarine Type 18 is a Nihonese SSGN (Ship, Submersible, Guided Missile, Nuclear) - a cruise missile submarine, with primary task being hunting enemy capital ships, such as carriers, battleships, logistic vessels and other important surface targets, as well as bombarding enemy high value ground targets. Western navies given it designation of "Edo Class Submarine" after the old castle in which the shoguns of Kusakabe Bakufu resided in while exercising their power. There is no surprise, as JS - 18 is an underwater fortress, capable of destroying every surface foe.

JS - 18 is 182 meters long, 25 meters in beam. First major noticeable characteristic when looking at the hull is it's flat upper slope, being a result of an extreme compartmentalization of the submarine. Junsen features two "outer hull" separated from each other by 5 meter area - task of the outer one being protection against kinetic damage, while the inner one is responsible for handling the pressure of the water. Additionally three minor hulls were installed inside the "outer" hulls - one of them housing a major compartment for the crew, while remaining two house torpedo room and the propulsion components. In addition the hulls themselves were divided into several sections, each of them being separated by a titanium wall allowing the crew to easily retreat to another area in case the ship has suffered damage, thus increasing survival ability. The compartments are: torpedo room, control room, Combat stations & Communications, Living quarters, two reactor engines, propulsion control, two propulsion compartments & electronic motors room. Access hatches were located in electronic motors and living quarters. Majority of the hull was completed using titanium - which, even if increasing the cost, provided the ship with extreme resistance to both water pressure and kinetic damage. Additionally an escape capsule for the crew is located beneath the sail.

The superstructure, located behind the missile cells, roughly in the middle of the ship, was additionally reinforced to allow the ship to break through thick ice layers in the Northern Furukuran sea, and covered, alongside most of the hull, in anechoic tiles to decrease detectability via active SONAR. The superstructure houses two optronic masts ( one for crew, one for captain) radio antenna, radar mast and navigation mast. Junsen is steered through four directional fins, with additional pair of vertical stabilizing fins at the front of the submarine. At the top of the upper vertical fin at the rear, a bulb housing the towed array is located.

"Junsen" is powered by two KJ - XII IVth generation lead bismuth fast reactors mounted into two separate compartments, providing the SSGN with 420 MW joint power, using a mixture of lead and bismuth as heat exchange material instead of water.

Main propeller of the Junsen is a pump jet propulsion system inspired by the one mounted on Kairyu which holds the propeller blades pressurized, greatly decreasing caviltation thus decreasing level of noise that submarine emits at the same time increasing the speed on which submarine may still uphold the stealth needed for the operation. The combination of those systems allow Junsen to reach top speed of 30 knots when submerged and 14 when surfaced.

- Washi N121 is a noise monitoring system tasked with monitoring own noise of the submarine and practical reduction of it to remain stealthy.

The submarine electronic systems include:

- Yamakusa Y7F1 telescopic communications mast is a telescopic submarine antenna operating on high frequency (HF) between 10 kHZ and 30 mHZ and with maximum input power of 0.5 kW. The mast can be extended to 4,4 meters (when collapsed) and 7,5 meters (when fully extended). Built from epoxy glass fiber with naval brass metallic parts as one - part design, Y7F1 proven itself to be highly resistant, corrosion - free and reliable. Maximum expansion speed is 13 knots, the mast depth

- Yamakusa 8P2 communications buoy is a towed, expendable two way communications buoy operating usually at 1.8 kHz frequency to communicate between submarine and land based systems. This system is extremely important for an SSGN, due to ability to transmit data between the C4ISTAR assets and the launch platform.

- WaShi WPF-31 optronic mast is an integrated optronic mast integrating multiple platforms into one. The systems include HDTV camera, eye - safe laser range finder, 3rd Generation Thermal imagining system, software infra - red camera, backup day / night camera and integrated GPS / ESM (both direction finding and early warning ESM) system. All channels are available simultaneously, with a "quick look" function allowing the operator to quickly point camera into selected bearing. The non - hull breaching mast itself features a low RCS profile and systems providing warning from air threat. Two such masts were integrated, one for captain, one for the crew.

- WaShi CUBESON is a integrated sonar system compromising cylindrical and conformal bow array, stern array with fully panoramic coverage, planar flank array, towed array housed within bulb on the upper vertical fin intercept array, distributed array, High frequency active array, mine & obstacle array and self noise monitoring array compromising 360* coverage all across the submarine. Due to close integration, the system allows for easy detection of even stealthiest targets.

Additionally the submarine is equipped with Murakami MSC - 8 sonar intercept receiver capable of detecting both single and multiple sonar pulse from over 90km distance at 5 kHz frequency, and an IFF (IFF - 21) system built by the same company.

Typical armament of JS - 18 is composed by six 533mm torpedo tubes located at the bow designed to carry 24 torpedoes. The submarine's power lays, however, not in the torpedoes, but rather within it's missile armament. Junsens operated by Imperial Nihonese Navy (Kaigun) carry 40x Type 700 Senpu or 200x Yu-28 packed in four within a single tube. The tubes are pointed forward into direction of the submarine's bow and can be exchanged easily. The tubes are housed beneath protective cover, which has to be opened before the tubes are opened and fired. A static Type 5 Rakirai launcher is mounted at the top of the superstructure to protect it when the submarine is surfaced.

Junsen is also equipped with system of acoustic countermeasures mounted in special tubes on the fins and within the superstructure, called WaShi WSC - 03.

Type Ha - 2008 SSP known also by it's official designation "Sen-Taka-Ko-gata sensuikan Ha 2008" meaning "Submarine High speed-Small type Ha 2008" is a diesel electric, air independent propulsion (AIP) submarine derived from earlier Type Ha - 2007 SSK, first fielded in 2004. Originally developed to test new technologies for future projects including a Stirling engine based propulsion, Type Ha - 2008 came into service in 2009 and is still operated by Imperial Nihonese Navy (Kaigun), being most advanced SSP within service until fielding of Ro - 1800 in 2013, and first models of Ha - 2010, for which this design served as testing field, entering service in 2014. Common designation in many western navies is "Solidus" class while in Nihon it is commonly known as "Red Herring" in Kaigun's jargon..

The result of the project was a submarine that performs perfectly in both anti - surface and anti submarine warfare, as well as in variety of other tasks, such as gathering of communications / electronic intelligence (COMINT/ELINT), special operations, surveillance or mine warfare. Final design and first submarine to enter the production was 75 meters long, with beam of 8.9 meters and drought of 8,4 meters, with total displacement of roughly 2900t, which signifies the fact that the designers have not been thinking of containing operations of this model to littoral zones - although it is perfectly suited for such operations, due to it's X - shaped rear fins significantly increasing it's performance on low waters. Whole hull has been arranged from a series of modular ring that allow the submarine to be easily modified, installing new equipment or modules, making the costs of maintenance or modernization far lower. At the front, which has been a bit flattened to provide lower wake signature during snorkeling, are located five 533mm torpedo tubes for up to 18 torpedoes and missiles, or up to 31 mines that the submarine carries within it's hull. Two of the tubes can be replaced with a docking unit tasked with launch and recovery of Unmanned Underwater Vehicle (UUV) or launching special forces, allowing to accommodate up to eight men in full diving gear. Below is mounted a front array passive / active sonar unit, accompanied by additional two arrays on each flank. Shallow water performance is additionally increased by X - shaped rudders, decreasing the minium depth of the submarine. Behind them was mounted major propulsion unit in form of seven blade propeller screw, and a long extended tube housing the towed array sonar. Mounted at the front of Type Ha - 2008 sail features eight masts performing variety of functions, such as radars, submarine SAM unit, communications antenna, etc. Majority of the hull has been produced from titanium, mixing elements made of high quality steels, which coupled with pressure - tight boundaries gives Ha - 2008 significant survivability in case of collision with hostile torpedo or mine. In addition to that, each of the sections is kept as separate "honeycomb" with ability to be quickly locked down in case of flooding, and with an escape vehicle being located in the submarine's mid - hull allowing for escape from as much as 180 meters below the sea level. In case of flooding every breach in the hull has been equipped in double off - shot valves shut - off valves that can be overridden both manually and externally, in addition to air pressure system that is set to surface the submarine.

Modular compartments allow quick "extension" of the submarine, making space for new technologies or gear, giving it almost unlimited options for expansion. In addition to that Ha - 2008 possesses comfortable conditions for the crew, based on traditional Nihonese design. Due to the fact that in Kaigun two members share the same bunk in rotation, the sleeping conditions can be described as pleasurable and calm, with each bunk incorporating a single set of direct ear headphones coupled with several albums of traditional Nihonese music for relaxation.

Diesel - Electric AIP system is composed of:

- Two Suzahara N08 diesel generators, each developing 2MW at 1800 rotations per minute. Submarine carries 250 tonnes of diesel fuel.

- Kojima KS71 brushless DC propulsion motor with 4MW rating.

- Lithium - Ion batteries.

- 2x Kojima Stirling engine acting as main AIP unit for the submarine, inspired by earlier successes of Riysan Navy with Stirling AIP. It has been chosen due to easiness to maintain ( as easy as simple combustion engine), technological maturity and ability to be resupplied on high seas, unlike fuel cells which require complex and specialistic infrastructure. Kojima Stirling engine burns mixture of LOX (pure Liquid Oxygen) and the same fuel as diesel engine, making logistics extremely simple. In addition due to large size of the submarine can carry more fuel, allowing it for 350 hour endurance at speed of 5 knots, with 175 hours being rechargeable due to battery.

The submarine has been from beginning optimized for great reduction of acoustic signature, allowing Ha - 2008 to stay virtually undetected. Plenty of rubber mounting and baffles were included during the construction in order to minimize the noise coming from own operating gear, alongside with the space between frames being filled with damping plates. Entire hull has been covered with anechoic tiles to reduce effectiveness of enemy's active sonar. Additional coatings also reduce the magnetic signature and IR signature, in addition to externally - guided anti - MAD system designed to operate in every geographical spectrum. Additional anti - active sonar measure is provided by hull's shape. Majority of hull was completed with HY-156 steel, further decreasing magnetic signature and allowing to dive to as much as 600 meters.

Major detection system is composed of WA 38761 integrated sonar suite, providing Type Ha - 2008 with 360 degree view, including passive/low frequency active spherical array sonar WA 37-0 operating on very low, supporting it is WA 38 flank array sonar systems operating on high frequency, for observing targets on the sides of the submarine, built out of operating on bandwidth below 3200 Hz is composed of ultra - thin panels and features very efficient system responsible for filtering out submarine's own noise. Bearing accuracy is approximately 1*. Additionally Type Ha - 2008 is equipped is WS - 9101 towed array sonar, employing series of high - technology passive hydrophones mounted on an hose that comes up to 800 meters of length, towed behind the submarine, thus operating outside it's own noise, greatly increasing the submarine's passive detection ability. WS - 9101 incorporates a modular structure that allows it to be configured to bandwidth that the customer requires for his submarines. The hydrophones allow for detection of targets 360* around the submarine with ~ 1 meter accuracy. Processing of the data gathered by WS - 9101 is carried out inside the submarine by a series of highly advanced computers. To complete the sonar suite, WS - 0102 mine & obstacle detection sonar has been mounted. Operating on very low frequency between 36 kHz to 72 kHz, WS - 0102 covers around one kilometer diameter, mapping the operational environment real time in 3D, and keeping the submarine safe from collisions. It's field of view is enough to cover 90 degree area at the submarine's front, while the elevation coverage can be adjusted from 6* to 24*. Final parts are an intercept array sonar with 90km range at 5 kHz frequency, and an IFF (IFF - 21) system built by the same company.

32 man crew of Type Ha - 2008 SSP operates various C4ISR systems, allowing them for quicker data transfer. Those include:

- Washi Doramu 5 is a control system responsible for digital control of ship's machinery.

- Washi N121 is a noise monitoring system tasked with monitoring own noise of the submarine and practical reduction of it to remain stealthy.

In addition to that, Ha - 2008 features 8 spots for masts of various kinds, allowing the client to customize his submarine for intended mission. In standard configuration, those include:

Funryu Type 2 Mark 2 Model 1 is a non - hull breaching mast housing radar operating in I - band. The antenna itself features end fed slotted line array and horizontal polarization. Another important features are low electricity consumption, low signature and short - medium pulse lengths. Funryu can track up to 50 targets, and possess target acquisition capability argumented by selectable zone mode.

-Funryu F1 is an non - hull penetrating optronic mast currently in use on Ha - 2008 incorporating a whole array of sensors used to detect enemy platforms which include thermal IR, true HD imagining CCTV and ESM systems mounted inside. Two such masts are mounted on the submarine; one for the crew, second for captain.

- Hisakawa H251 is a three stage communications mast, based around whip type antenna, capable of incorporating several communication arrays, also allowing to mount IFF system.

- Hisakwa H 812 snorkeling mast equipped with gas exhaust valve system, with increased durability.

Armaments consist of 4x 533mm torpedo tubes, carrying up to 18 torpedoes/missiles inside the tubes, all of them drained by gravity to suppress eventual noise and loaded through designated hatch in the hull from vertical position, then slid down horizontal on the rack, allowing Ha - 2008 for easy resupply at sea - often performed by SSAORN (replenishment nuclear submarine) in the Kaigun. In addition, to fulfill several separate tasks, Type Ha - 2008 has been outfitted with two additional measures to defend itself. First is SAMast 8, a mast with a box launcher for 4 Type 5 Rakurai MANPADS coupled with an IR camera, allowing the submarine to fire them from under the water, engaging eventual ASW helicopters. Second, optional includes 25×137 mm recoilless canon mounted on a mast, intended for navies that require it's use in anti - pirate or anti - smuggling operations, or in need of defense against small surface threats. Up to 40 mines can be carried eternally. At the front, between the tubes, a dry dock was placed to allow operation of UUV (unmanned underwater vehicle) or insertion of special operations personnel, 8 of which can be carried by the submarine at time.

TYPE L DIESEL ELECTRIC SUBMARINE

Image

Price (Unit): 600 million

Type L submarine ( L-gata Sensuikan) or Ro-1800 after the name of first vessel is the Imperial Nihonese Navy's new diesel - electric AIP attack submarine, pushing the very capabilities of submarine design to the very limit available today, creating an SSP that could, in multiple areas, carry out blue water operations and rival capabilities of multiple SSNs. This large vessels serves as a perfect "middle way" between nuclear attack and diesel attack submarines. Multiple counties such as Republic of Vietnam participated in the development - significant part of the project was done in cooperation with Werhner-Noah Maritime Works from Aravea where it is known as Narva class. Sonar suite was designed in cooperation with Kirishinan companies.

Every submarine within Type L class is about 100 meters long, with beam of 9 meters and total displacement calculated on about 4800t - which makes it one of largest submarines with conventional propulsion currently in service, more akin to SSN in dimensions than to classic SSKs. The hull has been arranged in teardrop shape, resembling body of a whale, a bit flattened at the tip to produce lower wake signature while traversing at low depth. Engineers of Fujita Naval Group decided that the hull should be produced of HY-156 steel, allowing theoretical dive to as deep as 600 meters, while providing the submarine with low magnetic signature. At the rear were placed four X - shaped rudders, with additional pair of horizontal fins mounted at the front. Above the rear fins a single tube housing towed array was placed, to prevent towed cable from falling into propulsion system. In the middle of the hull is mounted the sail, shaped in a way similar to Swedish A26 submarine - avoiding vertical surfaces to reduce acoustic signature from active sonar. Behind it are mounted a dry dock shelter (housing up to 16 special forces personnel) and hull - mounted unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV) bay, while at the front of the sail 10 VLS tubes were placed, capable of housing both cruise, anti - ship or anti - submarine missiles. Sail's round top is used as an escape capsule, detaching itself from the rest of the hull. In total, crew can be numbered around 28 men due to heavy automatization; when the need comes, it may however go to as much as 60, which makes Type L a perfect platform for Special Operations Forces.

The submarine has been from beginning optimized for great reduction of acoustic signature, allowing it to stay virtually undetected.

Diesel - electric AIP system is composed of:

- Four Suzahara N08 diesel generators, each developing 2MW at 1800 rotations per minute. Submarine carries 450 tons of diesel fuel, allowing it to reach range of 29 000km at speed of 10 knots.

- Two Kojima KS71 brushless DC propulsion motor with 4MW rating.

- Three Lithium - ion batteries.

- 2x Kojima Stirling engine acting as main AIP unit for the submarine, inspired by earlier successes of Riysan Navy with Stirling AIP. It has been chosen due to easiness to maintain ( as easy as simple combustion engine), technological maturity, unlike fuel cells which require complex and specialistic infrastructure. Kojima Stirling engine burns mixture of LOX (pure Liquid Oxygen) and the same fuel as diesel engine, making logistics extremely simple. Total submerged time on AIP is around 21 days when combining Lithium - Ion batteries and Stirling engine at speed of 4 knots.

Main propeller of Type L submarine is a pump jet propulsion system which holds the propeller blades pressurized, greatly decreasing caviltation thus decreasing level of noise that submarine emits, increasing the speed on which submarine may still uphold the stealth needed for the operation. It has to be noted that the one mounted on Type Ro - 1800, designed by Washi, resembles more jet engine than a conventional submarine screw - based propeller. This sort of propeller provided Type L with several advantages, such as reduced noise due to the fact that shroud posseses extremely well developed noise - blocking capabilities. Due to the fact that flow of the water is mostly unencumbered, the propulsion of the Ro - 1800 possesses far better thrust output while maintaining good stealth capability.

Crew of Type L SSP operates various C4ISR systems, allowing them for quicker data transfer. Those include:

- Washi Doramu 5 is a control system responsible for digital control of ship's machinery.

- Washi N121 is a noise monitoring system tasked with monitoring own noise of the submarine and practical reduction of it to remain stealthy.

Sonar suite is composed of:

- WA 49-0 passive/ active low frequency active spherical array sonar operating on very low frequency.

- WS - 9101 towed array sonar, employing series of high - technology passive hydrophones mounted on an hose that comes up to 800 meters of length, towed behind the submarine, thus operating outside it's own noise, greatly increasing the submarine's passive detection ability.

- WS - 0102 mine & obstacle detection sonar has been mounted.

- W- 12 intercept array sonar with 90km range at 5 kHz frequency, and an W - IFF - 21 Identifiation friend or foe system built by the same company.

Type L features 7 spots for masts:

- Funryu Type 2 Mark 2 Model 1 is a non - hull breaching mast housing radar operating in I - band. The antenna itself features end fed slotted line array and horizontal polarization. Another important features are low electricity consumption, low signature and short - medium pulse lengths. Funryu can track up to 50 targets, and possess target acquisition capability argumented by selectable zone mode.

- Funryu F1 is an non - hull penetrating optronic mast currently in use on Ha - 2008 incorporating a whole array of sensors used to detect enemy platforms which include thermal IR, true HD imagining CCTV and ESM systems mounted inside. Two such masts are mounted on the submarine; one for the crew, second for captain.

- Hisakwa H 812 snorkeling mast equipped with gas exhaust valve system, with increased durability.

- Funryu F28 is a multifunction communications anetnna, composed of 5 units (antenna, junction box, external cable, hull penetrator and control unit). The antenna itself contains four high frequency receivers (HF/VHF, UHF, IFF and AXISAT). Mast allows to communicate from low angle and is capable to be used simultaneously at the same time.

Armaments consist of 4x 533mm torpedo tubes, carrying up to 25 torpedoes/missiles inside the tubes, all of them drained by gravity to suppress eventual noise and loaded through designated hatch in the hull from vertical position, then slid down horizontal on the rack, allowing easy resupply at sea. Ten VLS tubes were mounted in front of the sail, housing choice composition of anti - ship / cruise or anti - submarine missiles.

In addition, to fulfill several separate tasks, Type L submarne has been outfitted with two additional measures to defend itself. In addition to that, dry dock shelter located at the rear of the sail can launch up to 16 special forces personnel, while special bay behind it allows recovery or operation of unmanned underwater vehicles (UUV).

TYPE I-208 NUCLEAR ATTACK SUBMARINE

Image

Price (Unit): N$D 1 100 000 000 / unit.

Sentaka-Dai Type 7 ( 潜高(大)型 literally meaning "large high speed submarine" ) known also as Type I-208 is a larger, nuclear attack variant of Type L SSP. It mostly retains the same systems as Type L, except being 7 meters longer and 2 meters wider (107 meters length / 11 meters beam) in order to accomodate a single KJ - XII Lead-cooled fast reactor.

"I-209" is propelled by a single KJ - XII IVth generation lead bismuth fast reactor with 210 MW power mounted within it's hull, using a mixture of lead and bismuth as heat exchange material instead of water.

Type Yu - 28 Cruise missile / Evening Tide 28

Postby New Aeyariss » Tue Jul 05, 2016 10:50 am

TYPE YU (EVENING TIDE) 28 CRUISE MISSILE / ANTI SHIP MISSILE

Image

Type Yu - 28 (Yuushio - evening tide), also known as NS-N-5 Typhoon is a cruise missile designed to be launched from multiple platforms developed by Murakami as next - generation expansion of technologies previously tested on Type Yu - 7 missile. While "Yawara" was mostly aimed at being armament of small surface combatants such as missile boats or corvettes, Type Yu - 28 is five meters longer, weights several hundreds of kilograms more and is capable for subsonic flight at ranges measured in thousands of kilometers. Developed on demand of the Imperial Nihonese Navy for stealthy force multiplier, Evening Tide 28 is a true "assassin's mace" capable of striking enemy ships at long distance right under their noses or a standoff weapon to penetrate through enemy's defenses.

Type Yu-28 is 6.82 meters long and weights 1550 kilograms, making it similar in terms of dimensions to other missile in it's class such as Klub or Tomahawk. Most characteristic element of the missile's design is it's box - shaped, as opposed to cigar shaped body alignment, intended to decrease RCS - instead of having classic round head, the face of the missile now is more angular, further decreasing RCS, although not to the point of total stealth. Responsible for controls are a set of yaw to turn, X shaped rear fins and bank to turn front fins. This unique combination makes Yu-28 simple to use, easy to operate and upkeep by nations with restricted budgets. Combination of simplicity of the design, with signature reduction techniques guarantees Yu-28 RCS of size of a grape, while keeping it's costs to the minimum.

TYPE B3 CRUISE MISSILE SUBMARINE

Image

Type B3 is a result of a tense international situation, and increasing threat of use of nuclear weapons against targets in Nihon from rouge nations such as Ausitoria or the Filipino Bayan.

WIP

Modular compartments allow quick "extension" of the submarine, making space for new technologies or gear, giving it almost unlimited options for expansion. In addition to that Type B-3 possesses comfortable conditions for the crew, based on traditional Nihonese design. Due to the fact that in Kaigun two members share the same bunk in rotation, the sleeping conditions can be described as pleasurable and calm, with each bunk incorporating a single set of direct ear headphones coupled with several albums of traditional Nihonese music for relaxation.

Main propeller of Type L submarine is a pump jet propulsion system which holds the propeller blades pressurized, greatly decreasing caviltation thus decreasing level of noise that submarine emits, increasing the speed on which submarine may still uphold the stealth needed for the operation. Alongside the main AESA radar, Adm. Shinji Ikari class is backed by a single Ta-Se 7 air search radar, mounted at the aft mast. Ta-Se 7 is a 3D, full coverage shipborne radar system designed to provide air surveilance of an individual warship. This system incorporates an IFF capability and can operate in heavy jamming / countermeasures environment. Ta-Se 7 is formed from a block of 20 replaceable units, which reduces maintenance requirements and permits incorporation among greater number of platforms. This radar system operates on E-band alongside two main channels, being capable of detecting a fighter within 250 kilometers range (with maximum instrumented range of 300 kilometers), and an anti ship missile around 50 kilometres range at altitude of up to 30 kilometers. In addition to that, this radar system is fully capable of delivering targetting data to the frigate's weapons system.
