Apparently they wiped the NS2 site. Wow, that sucks for the people who put actual effort into that game.

I had a nation in World 46 that I was quite proud of. It's very unfortunate that they closed down that game. It had real potential, once the war function was worked out and the game was marketed more effectively.

Anyhow, my point was that NS2 was only really made with a small niche of the NS community in mind. I, like many others who are mainly RPers, had absolutely no incentive to join. The new forums that we now have are the greatest addition to the game that I can think of in the last few years. Best improvement since we got forums that didn't only allow you to post between the hours of 2 and 3 AM EST. ;) I think that was 2004 by the way lol.

Of course not. I almost saw the issues as annoying at times. I played for the alliances. The forums. Working together for a cause. Meeting people. In so many ways, NS2 was better than NS1.

Indeed. I've been here for ages and am just recently getting into the gameplay side. :D

Spoken like someone who hasn't played the game for long, nevermind since nearly the beginning?

NS1 has always had the meetings of people, the workings for causes, the alliances (I belong to one of the longest-standing ones in RP myself), the forums. All for *gasp* FREE. I couldn't even get my original nation ported over due to some stupid bug or other. All the 'pay to play' bits, and not being able to choose where you were heading messed things up for me as well. Too many bugs, too little real improvement, and far, far too much dirty underhanded asshattery for my tastes, thankyouverymuchdrivethrough.

Good for Max putting up the message and redirects and all. He has been, and remains, a class act. In spite of Jolt/OMAC bastardry.

Well, i think that Jolt's tactic in running games is to shut down a game "for repairs" and then direct players trying to get to the website to a "better" game (pot o' gold), therefore making their place in history as the most annoying game host on the internet.

They aren't good at it either.

This is now just one big thread devoted to insulting OMAC industries.

What is certain, however, is that NS2 was the aborted child (I'm terribly sorry to all those who actually had to experience this terrible event, but it's the only way of explaining this) of NS and Capitalism.

NS2 wasn't specificly a "bad" game, it wasn't realy "good" either. I (formerly the nation Ycarcinmo of world 33 of NS2, one of the few second rank members of Diet of clogs) found the game quite enjoyable, but that was because of my Politics and Religion thread (which was heavy on the politics) and the fact that we used some game rules in unorthodox and fun ways to remove (virtualy) all competion from our world and rule it unchecked for the last few days of NS2's existance. The Diet of Clogs is what made NS2 fun, and the enemy GSS. If it weren't for them, I would have found NS2 alot less fun and alot more tedious. Nations are still welcome to join the Diet of Clogs here in NS1 at the region "Diet of Clogs" or join our multi-game alliance at our forum http://dietofclogs.proboards.com/

Long Live the Diet!

Jolt is pathetic.... scamming and ruining games for business. I liked nationstates 2, It was def no nationstates 1 but it kept me entertained for a little bit. Jolt completly ruined it!. Nationstates 1 is way better than anything jolt will ever make because its about the game, not the business

I briefly tried NS2. Moments after signing up, I found out custom flags were not only among the paid features (as part of the Ambassador pack), but that you'd also have to pay monthly to keep that flag (I couldn't care less about the pack's other features). So I quit, just like that, minutes after actually entering the game.

What's the point of having a fictional nation when you're forced to use real world flags? They might as well have restricted custom nation names. Same deal. Not to mention custom flags are 100% free in NS1.

Max, you should sue them. Even if they own the code, you own the name and they were using it in that abomination, purely to lure players out of NS1 to the "upgraded" version of the game.

That is precisely why they failed; their main marketing tool was the nations in NS1. After most nations in NS1 realized NS2 was a load of crap, Jolt realized that they would have to do some real advertising (hence the "youtube competition") and they fell flat on their face. Looking back, it seems a bit funny that I discovered NS1 through NS2, and quickly left NS2 and to take up residence here. In the end, they may have helped bring more players to NS1 than they drew away.

Gotta love the message on there now though, Max definitely has style:
http://www.nationstates2.net/

NationStates 2

Hi there. On July 1st, 2009, Jolt closed NationStates 2 and began redirecting all visitors to a different Jolt game.

Earlier, Jolt announced they were taking NS2 down only to retool it, and would bring it back at some indefinite time in the future. But since they've wiped the entire site, not even leaving a News page for updates, this seems unlikely.

I've therefore taken back the domain name. It is, unfortunately, beyond my power to restore the NS2 game: that code belongs to Jolt. But if you would like to return to the original NationStates, now proudly Jolt-free, we would love to have you.

To put it straight, if it was winter now, Jolt has obviously left NS2 players in the cold while we are in the other hemisphere, thriving. It seems Jolt is still keeping the NS2 forums up because they are not going to admit that they killed the game, even though it is now virtually deserted, with only the latest "posts" being about what is going on.

I really liked ns2. but now it is closed. i think max should make a new ns2 or 3 and make it under his control. Ideas should be the gdp and population graphs again but this can be altered by immigration, death rates, birth rates etc... A world map would also be a good idea and the chance to see your won capitol city...
If not, why can't these features be added to ns1? if you have any comments please telegram my country; glalily and yon

It's a shame to see something like this happen. At the beginning, I was having massive problems trying to even start a nation there. If profit was made from the initial release of NS2 and a contract produced, there is a considerable amount of cause to allow legal action, due to a possible breach of contract. If there was no initial contract and the profits made were not a considerable amount, then legal action would just cost more money out of both parties and solve pretty much nothing. Just expressing an opinion on a problem that's been solved over a duration of 3 months.

There was a contract, they have violated it, and while Max has grounds to take legal action, the amount of money they owe him probably isn't worth the headache of suing across international borders :( NS2 made some money, but not very much.

When NS2 1st came out, I like others 'chosen' to play beta version did so. I think I actually lasted 2 weeks before seing that it was going nowhere. This was around same time I was really getting fed up with way NS1 was going when being managed? mis-managed more like, by Jolt. I stopped playing both for a while but couldnt resist returning to NS1 hey it still the best free game for a laugh.
