Well, the equator cuts through the upper part of Erathemon (the large island continent nation). And the arctic conditions only start at about 50oS, which isn't unreasonable.

Cylarn wrote:Here are some additional goods that could appear in the PX.

The premiere condom of the Antediluvian Royal Armed Forces (which is ironic, since consensual and non-consensual intercourse is frowned upon), the "R n' R" is a latex condom known for its durability, varieties, and comfort. In addition to the standard variety, R n' R comes in a number of varieties, including but not limited to: studded, spermicidal, "skintight," and flavored. These condoms are inexpensive, and it is common for soldiers to buy the large boxes, instead of the standard individual wrapped condoms.

R n' R is recognized just as much for its utility purposes as much as its sexual purposes. The condom is reported to be able to hold a little bit over a gallon of water, and soldiers have remarked that they make great water-carrying devices in the absence of canteens or during long-range ruck marches into the wilderness. There are unconfirmed reports that some soldiers have even used the condoms as tourniquets in the absence of proper devices, though Medical Command (or whatever group oversees the military's medical services) advises soldiers that such a practice is dangerous.

The most useful and inexpensive piece of rope you'll ever find, paracord is made up of braided and interwoven nylon strings that allow the cord to stay together even under extreme stress. The original purpose for paracord was in the suspension lines for parachutes, though it has found its way into a multitude of niches. It is common practice for soldiers to secure their equipment to their vests with paracord, so that they won't lose something that they drop, as well as to secure ponchos to trees when making a hooch. Some vehicle crews even remark paracord is great for holding vehicles together, in the absence of proper equipment. Another use for paracord involves prisoners of war, as the cord is great for securing not only the hands and feet of a POW, but it can be used to secure prisoners to one another in order to impede escape attempts. It is commonly bought in varying lengths, with 150 feet being the most common length bought.

Like the R n' R, the paracord is rumored to be a good - but ill-advised - substitute for a tourniquet.

These aren't the bungee cords that you use for bungee jumping, so we implore you to stop using these for bungee jumping. These bungee cords are for utility purposes, and are equipped with metal hooks so that they can be secured to objects. Bungee cords are great for securing equipment to vehicles, cordoning areas, securing people to trees, suspending ponchos from trees, and impeding movement.

Sometimes, a bayonet and shovel simply won't cut it for delicate work. That's why the multitool is a common piece of equipment, though not standard-issue to most troops. Equipped with two knife blades, a set of needle-nosed pliers, a flathead screwdriver, a Phillip's Head screwdriver, a star screwdriver, a bottle-opener, a small saw blade/rule, and a magnifying glass, the small tool had the ability to fold its instruments into its plastic grip, for ease of handling.

More to come, soon.

Dug this up. More PX items.

That's a good idea.

I think Ayre fleshed out a religion for them and mentioned their political system in the last iteration, so we could probably start from there.

No. It's not the same with faceless enemies. I would like them to look like thinking, feeling people with families for optimum trauma potential.

Maybe Precambria is like the US (or post-Marian Reform Rome, for that matter) where military service is voluntary only, but carries a level of benefits/opportunities/prestige so high that a fuckload of people join it.

Precambria's Government

Precambria is a parliamentary republic headed by a President Elect and a Prime Chancellor. The President Elect is the mostly ceremonial head of state, elected by universal suffrage, who is entrusted with the task of preserving the core democratic virtues of the Precambrian Charts of Liberties, and appointing the Chancellor, who works as the head of government and of the executive branch. The soon-to-be chancellor is usually candidated by the winning party in parliamentary elections/the parliamentary majority.

Precambria's legislative branch is the Parliament, a tetracameral organ embodied by the Senate, The House of Representatives, The Legislative Council and the Minority Assembly. The particular complexity and redundancy of the Precambrian Parliament, which is usually seen as an obstructive and legalistic institution, was purposefully designed to keep a stable balance of power. As a multipartisan country, Precambria's parliament is usually divided in several squabbling coalitions, but the Democratic Republican Party of Precambria currently holds the highest sway in the government of the country.

The judicial branch is independent from the executive, and largely self-governing. At its top sits the Ultimate Jurisdictional Tribunal, governed by Twelve Justices, with the task of defending the Chart of Liberties from unconstitutional legislation or executive orders.

The complexity of the Precambrian system is a favourite passtime of Antediluvian propaganda.

In my opinion, it honestly doesn't matter much whether the prefix is latinate or hellenic, since the Latin word from which "cameral" derives ("camera", from which we also have "chamber" through French) itself comes from the Greek καμάρα.

Pretty much. Given the political climate, they'd certainly establish a draft if there was need, but hey, China's PLA is a conscript military in theory, but they get flooded by so many volunteers they actually have to turn people away. I'd imagine the Precambrian armed forces are akin to that.
