"Llama" is the Spanish for name. Apparently the early conquistadors in Peru tried to find out what the locals called those animals by pointing at one and repeating the words "Que llama!?" (i.e. "What is it's name?"), louder and louder, until they got a reply... and those locals, thinking that the Spanish were telling them their name for the beasties, eventually decided to be polite and agreed "Si, Llama..."
