Cintrin A

Well, it's a repeat of last year - Poiki first, Mylfe ever the bridesmaid in second. Meanwhile, the gulf between Cintrin A and B is becoming ever apparent, as seen by the twenty-three point difference between 16th and 17th place, where Trillet just barely managed to be the only promoted team to stay up, sending Dranacess down to the depths.

Cintrin C

Cintrin C: "The first shall be last and the last shall be first."

Ertory and Engset both finished in the bottom five last season; this time around, they're heading up to Cintrin B. Virdyr came within a point of back-to-back promotions. Last year's fifth-place finishers Spakisteis ended up dead last, and Scinpefis did pull off the depressing feat of going down two years running. The only thing you can count on here is the fact that you can't count on anything.

Vephraller Kustriin e Foutbill

As usual, we'll pick this up in the Fourth Round.

Fourth Round
Highlight of the round: Merpisms and Boalluns both finished in the top six last year, and this cross-state rivalry match was greatly anticipated; Boalluns would end up coming out on top at their home ground, 2-1.
Honorable mention: Knoleier taking POC to a replay and then all the way to penalty kicks to come away with the win.

Knoleier FE 1-1 Penuler OC (replay: 2-2, 2-2 AET, 4-1 PKs)
Bumpoogra FE 0-1 Poikimitagiin FE

Fifth Round
Highlight of the round: Perennial powerhouse Poiki pummeled in Penuls - Spoantects needed a replay to do it, but they downed the more famous team from Penuls to advance to the quarterfinals.
Honorable mention: It didn't get any easier for Boalluns, and this time they fell to Spoantects, who finished seventh in the league last year.

Stithis FE 3-0 Brimpeng FE
Sontirae CE 0-4 Netler FE
Poikimitagiin FE 2-2 Spoantects CE (replay: 1-3)

Custler FE 2-4 Pondrit FE
Ammites FE 0-2 Mylfe CE
Oillid CE 2-0 Daazyiles OC

Quarterfinals
Highlight of the round: The Stestrenas-Stithis rivalry came about primarily because people kept confusing them due to them having names that were too similar. Nevertheless, it remains heated, and neither side was going to get off easy here. Stestrenas got the early advantage with a 2-1 win in the first leg, but Stithis would end up coming back with a 2-0 win at their ground to clinch a semifinal berth.

Knoleier FE 1-1 Spoantects CE
Spoantects CE 2-1 Knoleier FE (3-2 agg)

Stestrenas OC 2-1 Stithis FE
Stithis FE 2-0 Stestrenas OC (3-2 agg)

Semifinals
No rest for Mylfe - they were in the midst of a title race with Poiki and Merpisms at this point, but also still had the cup to deal with. Fortunately for them, Spoantects didn't pose much of a threat.

Spoantects CE 0-3 Mylfe CE
Mylfe CE 3-1 Spoantects CE (6-1 agg)

Oillid CE 2-1 Stithis FE
Stithis FE 0-1 Oillid CE (1-3 agg)

Final
And with league play having just concluded and Mylfe having fallen just short again, at least their fans would be able to content themselves with a trophy of some sort.

Mylfe CE 2-0 Oillid CE

Graziland Football League Season 2: Season review

Division 1
Before the final matchday Bashingdell had already secured their second straight title, but the real action was at the bottom of the table where 3 teams still were in danger of relegation. Xerods were bottom of the table with 9 points. They were a little less vicious than last term, the GFL cracking down on some of their rougher tactics, and actually resembled a football team at times during the season. Still, the goals were lacking and they only had 7 to their name. Just above them were newly-promoted Roundbusch on 10 points but with a horrific goal difference. Any tie breaker was going against them, so they clearly needed to win. The third team in danger were Patret. Owing to the small size of the league, Patret still had a small chance at being the 2nd place team and thus going to the Globe Cup. They were on 12 points. The matches for the final day were as follows:

Xerods v Patret
Krowdos v Weitchland United (A win for either team here would give them 2nd)
Roundbusch v Bashingdell (Bashingdell, already the league champions, were resting players for the cup final)

It should be noted that earlier in the season, Patret went to Police Plaza Field and won a Cup Quarter-Final Replay 2-0, in a match marred by violence on the field and in the stands. As such, and with so much on the line, the police had closed the stadium down to everyone except for a single GFL official. The official had the responsibility of reporting the score to the league during half-time and immediately following the match, so that fans could know what was going on. At the time of the announcement, some in the press thought something was amiss, but the violence at the cup game gave at least the semblance of a cover story, if nothing else.

In the event, Roundbusch game from 2-1 down to beat what was essentially the Bashingdell reserves 3-2 to stay safe. Weitchland United scored the only goal at the Farmers' Collective Field, but something strange was going on at the PPF: After half-time reports of a 1-0 Patret lead, some of the more die hard supporters claimed to have "information" that Patret captain Dave Patret (the great-great grandson of the paper company's founder, and operations manager of the Weitchland factory) had been sent off. Then news was leaked that Xerods, who had scored a grand total of 8 league goals in 19 previous matches, had scored 2 in 2 minutes and now led! And then came another. And another. And YET ANOTHER! Sure enough, just after the final whistles in the other matches news came down (officially) that Xerods has somehow beaten Patret 5-1. Patret were down!

The Patret players, once safely out of the area of the police station, started complaining about the referee and one began to get a picture of what really happened. The Police had, as they had countless times before, bought the ref. All circumstantial, of course. No one could prove a thing. In response, the paper company workers threatened a strike. Even Dave Patret himself was said to be in favor. This talked died down when starting goalkeeper Zendal Perks (one of the more outspoken protesters on the team) was arrested on what many thought was a trumped-up assault charge which "magically" disappeared when the Patret players stopped complaining to the press and the strike was called off. A GFL investigation found no wrong doing by any party involved.

Final Table:
Pos Team P W D L GF GA GD Pts

4 Roundbusch 10 4 1 5 15 22 -7 13
5 Xerods 10 3 3 4 12 8 4 12
6 Patret 10 3 3 4 18 21 -3 12 Relegated

Division 2

Though far less controversial, the Division 2 race was no less interesting, and may actually have been more exciting with Zygery and a new-look, defensive minded Cuantos team competiting for promotion. The favorites for promotion, the relegated Hamacker City, had a real hard time of it. They lost their opener 4-0 at home to Wellington and never really got over it. Their season did have a silver-lining though: a magical cup run that led to the establishment of the Cup as a competition of major interest. In the end a Cuantos draw at home to Weitchland Town was not enough to secure promotion, and the plumbers of Zygery will be in Division 1 for Season 3

Final Table:
Pos Team P W D L GF GA GD Pts
1 Zygery 10 6 1 3 19 11 8 19 Promoted
2 Cuantos 10 5 4 1 13 7 6 19
3 Weitchland Town 10 4 3 3 17 15 2 15
4 Wellington 10 4 2 4 13 12 1 14
5 Medivac Corp. 10 2 3 5 10 13 -3 9
6 Hamacker City 10 2 1 7 9 23 -14 7

The Graziland Football Cup

The inaugural Graziland Football Cup had it's share of excitement. Many doubts were raised over it's importance, and possibly it's fairness when it was revealed the format highly favored teams that did well in Division 1. The final matched Hamacker City (who started in the very first round and had to win 5 ties to get to the final) against Champions Bashingdell (who entered in the semi-final and needed a replay to get past Patret). The form book held in the final at Hospital Park (coincidentally, where the cup run began for Hamacker), and Bashingdell became the first team to win the League and Cup double at the first time of asking. Hamacker's hard work did not get unrewarded however. Even though they finished bottom of Division 2, the fact that they were the beaten finalists mean that they get to go to the Globe Cup, as per the regulations set forth by the GFL. It should be an interesting adventure for them.

Results:

First Round
Medivac Corp. 1-2 Hamacker City
Weitchland Town 2-1 Cuantos
Wellington 3-2 Zygery

Second Round
Weitchland Town 0-1 Wellington
Hamacker City 5-2 Roundbusch

Third Round
Hamacker City 3-3 Wellington
Replay: Wellington 0-4 Hamacker City

Quarterfinals
Hamacker City 1-0 Weitchland United
Patret 1-1 Xerods
Replay: Xerods 0-2 Patret

Semifinals
Krowdos 0-1 Hamacker City
Patret 1-1 Bashingdell
Replay: Bashingdell 2-1 Patret

Final
Hamacker City 1-2 Bashingdell

Liga Panuul, 1773 season

Perhaps some sign of life in Liga Panuul, as Cimnersog Town turn out slightly less dominant than they were last season, losing an incredible four matches. Another sign: no ten-nil demolitions this year. The biggest win Town could manage was a mere six-nil over Healfat College. Nevertheless, the league was still decided with a month and a half to spare, with Town's two-nil victory over UC combined with Port Healfat's rather unexpected five-nil thrashing of Fortuna giving the big boys (well, as big as they can get in a nation of 19,000) a twenty-point cushion with five matches left to play. They would go on to win by eighteen.

The real race in Liga Panuul remains that for second place, and this time Fortuna reclaimed that spot from Port Healfat, taking it fairly comfortably by eight points and giving them the Globe Cup nod for the moment.

[OOC: This will probably be the only time I do this, and I don't care to enter any competitions or anything, but I'm wanting to test out the scorinator, as I have never used it before. For brevity's sake, I'm only going to list the players available for transfer that play on my national team. If you want one, contact me on IRC and we can discuss the price. Props to Vephrall for the format (although others might have used it before him), also thanks to everyone in #nssport who helped me with the scorinator, which didn't end up actually working for me, ugh. Thanks to LE for the eventual scorination. That would be the reason the 2 smaller leagues weren't scorinated.]

Theo nhóm claimed a narrow vistory in the first ever full league in Unreal229. Six teams could have won the league on the last day, with only Unreatiante failing to get a win (instead getting a 1-1 draw with XM Hainac). At the other end, it wasn't a great surprise that both Dac To and Dong Hoi were automatically relegated. The others were no major surprise, although Haixe should have finished higher.

1 Liên relegation play-off

First Round
Haixe 1-2 Cánh Màu Xanh
Hư Không 3-2 XM Qui Nhon

Final
Cánh Màu Xanh 1-3 Hư Không

Haixe and XM Qui Nhon are both relegated whilst Cánh Màu Xanh and Hư Không will both play in the top division in season 2.

And in related football news, a story covered by Una Serie magazine has revealed League 1 side Villa Ortiz have targeted Giovanni Van Dyke as a possible midfield enforcer.

Van Dyke has been without a club for 30 months following his contract termination at 1860 Flumineiro. Van Dyke’s contract was terminated after a blood test taken post game revealed traces of cocaine – an illegal substance in Queer Poco el Mono Ara. The sanction for such behaviour is an immediate suspension from playing in Queer Poco and a 2 and half year ban. The ban was followed by Giovanni’s contract being terminated. The shamed midfielder is now set to return to football having served the full 30 month suspension.

The elder brother of Pythons forward Ishmael Van Dyke, Giovanni would have certainly been a member of the inaugural Queer Poco international team were it not for his suspension from football. The suspension however damaged his chances of appearing for Queer Poco but a return to an Una Serie de Futbol team could see him back in contention. With regards to kick starting his career at Ortiz Van Dyke has stated he is not interested in playing there and is looking to resurrect his career abroad.

I rest my case.

Season summary

Urm what? What happened to Atlantas? They were flying high, in the cup final and 11 points clear in the league last season. They had the same manager, the same squad, the same back staff, no major injuries and they drop down to fifth? Nobody, NOBODY has a clue what happened, but another season like this could mean the axe for the aging Han Seonseok. What might happen now is a desperate few signings for a club that wants to restore their position at the summit of the league.

Take no credit from Metalurgs, the team worked brilliantly all season, and they thoroughly deserve the title after finishing second two seasons in a row before now. A strong title challenge was mounted from start to finish, and the team may not have the superstar names of other teams, but hell, with the work these lads put in, you don't need superstar names. Metalurgs do have money to spend, not as much as Atlantas, but still money to spend. They are likely to buy in order to retain the title, as yet its not clear who they will be after, but they say they have names lined up!

Qasarian Sparta will be thankful that they managed to hold off their rivals in the league to grab the second TQCC spot, without that, the board (and fans) would surely be looking for some sort of upheaval, and with Ergma's job as the national team manager on the line, he could be brought back as a hero. Sparta also managed to get to the cup final, only to lose in extra time to their fierce rivals from a spectacular goal from Han youngster Yim Daejang in extra time.

Dinamo Karrakiv are probably just unlucky to finish third. They were so close to Sparta all through the season and just got pipped at the end after losing horribly to Vetra Jurmala on the last day. The first club from Somewhereistonia to get to the group stage of a major club competition and they lose like that? The fans will start to get restless, one of the 'big two' and they haven't won the title in four seasons under the new league and even more before that!

Koltelcia had a great season to claim the remaining Globe Cup spot (and finish above Atlantas). They really have managed well on slim resources, there doesn't seem to be a brilliant long term future, but these guys will be glad to yet again, be playing in international club games (even if they are only qualifiers).

Ventspils Redwings have not had a good season, finishing 10th. The team who were targeting a third place finish really have not worked well as a team this season, a long running feud in the dressing room seems to have been solved by the sacking of the manager at the end of the season. The board will be looking for a serious improvement from whoever they decide to employ next. Espechially as their long term rival, Ventspils Bluewings, has finally got back to the top level and after winning the Esiliiga in style, they will be looking to break into the top ten and really make a statement "Bluewings are back".

The promoted teams from last season didn't exactly make a statement in the league, both going straight down in what must be a huge disappointment for the hopeful fans. At least they have a little extra money from TV rights though.

Well, the Esiliiga has certainly changed a lot without the 'B' teams. A really open contest with teams scrambling to dominate. It was Ventspils Bluewings that did that job, and they did it well, eventually winning by 9 points. Hawks Sporting Academy are perhaps the biggest surprise this season, but with few players sold at the end of last season, they had some rare stability in the club that puts so much effort into selling its best names. Now they have a big decision to make, do they continue as an academy team or do they go out and try to win the league, and maybe even buy some players instead of setting up new franchises all over the world with those lovely transfer fees.

Tammeka Kuressaare almost made it back into the top division, and they will surely be one of the favourites to win the Esiliiga this year after finally sorting out their defensive problems and generally becoming that bit more organised. Theres not that much else interesting in the Esiliiga, just lots of new teams vying for position as they look to push on for next season.

So to the Koliliiga and this seems to be full of foreigners, well foreign owned clubs to be precise. During the recent upheavel several companies and clubs took the (amazingly brilliant) opportunity to take over one of the smaller clubs that was to be amont the mass promotions, and they havn't done too badly for their first season in charge, all but one finishing inside the top ten. None got promoted though, so they haven't taken over yet. Nobody panic.

Mid-Season Report

Mid-season is upon us and previous champions Pythons find themselves tucked into 4th in the league. Star forward Ishmael Van Dyke has hit 11 goals in 22 games, averaging at 1 in 2, but his goal scoring prowess has not been enough to put Pythons top of the league at this point.

Last season’s runners up, Skyte City sit a point and one place above Pythons in 3rd. The team touted for the title need a boost to push on and challenge in the second half of the season, but with no mid-season transfer window they are going to have to rely on the wealth of experience already available to them.

Ridgemont Town round off the top 5. World cup winning striker Tom Smith has been unable to fire them any further up the league and may regret not taking the money on offer over at Royal Khaldoon, who are currently joint fifth. Don’t expect much movement in either direction in the second half.

Royal Khaldoon are joint fifth and perhaps are already looking forward to next season and spending the Prince’s money on a number of high profile players, including a few home grown players.

Augustus are currently second, partly thanks to the wealth of youth available to the team. One particular player whose star is shining is Israel Álvarez, who is becoming a regular first team player. Augustus are out performing expectations, considering the injury to star midfielder Hugo Anderson which has ended his season and scuppered any chances of a move abroad next season.

Surprise league leaders Almondvale have amassed a seven point lead at the top of the table, but as we know from last years exciting conclusion a 7 point gap may not be enough. Fletcher Goodwin has assembled a good squad, and consistent defending has been key to ‘Vales league lead.

Athletic Khaldoon’s lack of major movement in the transfer market has seen them remain a mid-table side. Were it not for the superb goalkeeping of Royal Khaldoon transfer target Brad Johnson, Athletic would be further down the league.

Valengren Kickers new boy Juan Segura has scored the majority of their goals so far and is a big money target for Royal Khaldoon. The Sargossa forward has impressed in his first season and single handedly kept the team out of the bottom three.

Real Minanda, the bubble around Minanda has bust and the former Una Serie super power is another struggling side. Currently residing tenth, they are embroiled in the battle for survival against Barbossa and new boys Jonastown United. Expect them to splutter to the finish line and retain their league position.

Port Los Renato lost their two best players in the transfer market and struggled to bring in big name replacements. They should accrue enough points in the second half of the season to maintain their place in the league.

Barbossa may be on the lookout for their fourth manager in 2 years soon. As the policy of sacking managers for poor results continues, perhaps a closer look at the players is needed. Especially the acquisition of players – including flop forward Ariel Veron.

Jonastown United – may require a touch of luck to fend off relegation back to league I, having won 3 games from 22.

Elsewhere, Villa Ortiz lead League I at the half way stage and look to bounce straight back to the top flight, but are being closely fought by Salaga F.C.

Crabby Yum Non-Intuitively-Symbolic Metal Ornament
Formerly known as the QFA Cup

Quintessence of Dust's national cup takes so long to complete that it's out of synch with conventional seasons of the QNRVPL/MMTL. Over three thousand teams were entered - in other words, more than 1% of the country's entire population, or about twice the number of people serving in the QDF, competed at some level. More popular among domestic audiences than the QNRVPL, the Ornament also gives the only chance outside the rigidly regional domestic league system for teams from all different parts of the country to play one another, as well as setting up some real David-and-Goliath encounters. (Quodites being a notoriously secular folk, of course, these usually end up with Goliath completely shitting on David: Wow! Health & Fitness FC, for example, recording an 11-1 round 2 victory over National Metalcore Appreciation Society FC.)

Despite the generous prize donated by sponsors Crabby Yum (motto: "yum, it's crabby") and the historic nature of the Ornament as compared to the new QNRVPL title, CYNISMO was still taken less seriously by major clubs, many of whom used it as an opportunity for younger players to get some pitch time, or rested their choice starters to avoid injury. Additionally, the hectic Quodite sporting calendar led to a lot of scheduling conflicts, meaning many Ornament ties featured below-par teams on both sides.

The early rounds still featured some surprises, though. The Nut Scratching Service Workers Union (representing about 400 employees in the nut scratching cottage industry) survived early controversy when both of their squad goalkeepers were banned from competition by the QFA after it was revealed they worked exclusively in the almond section of the factory and as such were not true nut scratchers, and managed to emerge as absolute giant killers, knocking out Nowy Orpington United. They were drawn against Kolodvorska for the final 32, who had eliminated Wow!. Jesus Loves Dick FC belied their 7th Division status to see off Continuation Railway Biscuit Thickness Spray Farm. BobBank, Greschmeier, UWS, Kynythin, FC Drongosnort, FC Violences Conjugales, and UAC all survived, and the union leagues were well represented.

Final 32

Player of the round: Herronna (FC Drongosnort)

2-0 down at half-time, Real Scunthorpe netted a goal in the sixth minute of injury team as they mounted an astonishing comeback to deny Oh Canada FC. Marina Sundqvist exorcised some of Greschmeier's demons by beating the Elven Fanboys with a hat-trick. Chorizzo put an end to Gary And His Creepy Family and FC Drongosnort did for FTV Dish Installers FC in the round's biggest blowouts, while the University of Verinque picked up an 80th minute penalty and held on through six agonising rounds of a shootout against former Top Leaguers United Anti-Colonialist AFC. Perhaps the most staggering result was the 6-2 victory by New Cleethorpes Correctional Facility Wing #13 over the Pork Pie Makers/Pork Pie Hat Makers United Interest Union, featuring two goals for former Nowy Orpington defender and convicted baby snatcher Tilly Olsson.

BobBank FC 3 - 0 Concierto de Aranjuez FC
The Bok Globules 3 - 1 Buskers Commercial Union
Chorizzo 4 - 0 Gary And His Creepy Family
Cocktail Bar Employees Union (Long Island Iced Tea branch) 2 - 4 Jesus Loves Dick FC
FC Drongosnort 4 - 0 FTV Dish Installers FC
Elven Fanboys 1 - 4 Greschmeier MSC
Gash Rangers 1 - 2 University of West Sponson
Ippi-ippi-ippi-ippi 3 - 1 Super!!!! FC
Kolodvorska 2 - 3 Nut Scratching Service Workers Union
Kynythin MSC 2 - 1 Rue de la Resistance FC
Nasal Latinas 0 - 2 FC Violences Conjugales
NCCF Wing #13 6 - 2 PPMPPHMUIU
Neodymium-doped yttrium orthovanadate FC 0 - 2 South Island
Oh Canada FC 2 - 3 Real Scunthorpes
Spank The Monkey FC 3 - 1 Victims of Shark Attack Support Network FC
University of Verinque 2 - 2 United Anti-Colonialist AFC (2-2 AET, 4-2 PKs)

Final 16

Player of the round: Samuel Fukuyama (Jesus Loves Dick FC)

A Lefteris Diakos header saw BobBank put an end to the amazing run of South Island (pop: 0), and broke the hearts of many pelicans and rocks on the young island. Nut Scratching Service Workers Union triumphed over Spank The Monkey FC in an action-packed game that had 5 goals, 8 bookings, 1 sending off, 1 missed penalty, and a pitch invasion by lava lamp-wielding protestors angered at the closing of the nearby Crack Cafe. NCCF Wing #13 conceded a questionable own goal amid accusations of mass prison betting against them, but the Ips will advance to the quarter-finals anyway.

BobBank FC 1 - 0 South Island
The Bok Globules 1 - 2 FC Drongosnort
Chorizzo 2 - 4 Jesus Loves Dick FC
Greschmeier MSC 2 - 0 University of Verinque
Kynythin MSC 1 - 2 FC Violences Conjugales
Ippi-ippi-ippi-ippi 1 - 0 NCCF Wing #13
Nut Scratching Service Workers Union 3 - 2 Spank The Monkey FC
Real Scunthorpe 2 - 1 University of West Sponson

Quarter-finals

Player of the round: Felix Abendroth (Nut Scratching Service Workers Union)

Marina Sundqvist took her Ornament goal tally to 11 with 2 early strikes to seal Jesus Loves Dick FC's fate, and FC Drongosnort took a similar 3-0 lead thanks to Ted "Reefer Madness" Pollack to end Real Scunthorpe's dreams. But there were surprises in store, too: Ippi-ippi-ippi-ippi beat BobBank FC comprehensively in a huge upset for the nation's #1 ranked side. And Top Leaguers-in-waiting FC Violences Conjugales were slapped about a bit (sorry) by the Nut Scratching Service Workers Union, who won in extra time. The hero was undoubtedly fully accredited hazelnut specialist Felix Abendroth, whose goalkeeping acrobatics denied the potent FCVC attack.

BobBank FC 0 - 2 Ippi-ippi-ippi-ippi
FC Drongosnort 3 - 1 Real Scunthorpe
Greschmeier MSC 3 - 1 Jesus Loves Dick FC
Nut Scratching Service Workers Union 0 - 0 FC Violences Conjugales (1-0 AET)

Semi-finals

Player of the round: Wilhelm Biber (Greschmeier MSC)

Two more goals from Marina Sundqvist - why couldn't she play like this in the QNRVPL? (or, for that matter, the World Cup) - saw Greschmeier on their way to a second successive final as Wilhelm Biber controlled things masterfully in midfield. And FC Drongosnort, winners of the Top League and Eastern Cup, were given a chance to complete a slightly second-rate triple thanks to a late heater from Axel Eklind. I know, I wish Dario Spaghetti had scored it too.

FC Drongosnort 1 - 0 Ippi-ippi-ippi
Greschmeier MSC 3 - 0 Nut Scratching Service Workers Union

Final

Player of the match: Marina Sundqvist (Greschmeier MSC)

One of the most exciting finals in recent memory saw two pretty evenly matched sides face up and do battle for the full 120 minutes allowed. An Ornament record 12 bookings were handed out (with no red cards), reflecting how hard fought the contest was. Goalless at half-time, the Drongosnorters came out roaring: Brikk Schitthausen cleared a Herronna header off the line for a corner, and Courtney Garethsdottir found space to fire home at the far corner. Greschmeier controlled possession and peppered captain Rod Horrigan with shots from all angles, but he held firm until, in the 88th minute of normal time, Vulkan Vulkan gave up a free-kick within the range of...

...Marina Sundqvist. Who promptly curled it home and ran to the corner screaming (not in goal celebration: she heard someone dissing her haircut). After that, the Drongosnorter defence began to fray, and the Greschmeier midfield proved too strong. Still, it almost came down to penalties, until in the very last minute of injury time of extra time, Sundqvist - newly combed - got on the end of an Annemari Peltosaari through ball. Horrigan tipped it wide, but the corner - the last play of the game - from Biber found her unmarked to score in identical fashion to Courtney. Greschmeier defended the CYNISMO title to make Wilhelm Biber by all accounts the most successful captain in Quodite history, and leave FC Drongosnort tearful and disconsolate.

FC Drongosnort 1 - 1 Greschmeier MSC (1-2 AET)

Posted on the NEWSFLASH! portion of the QBS wobsite.
Quintessence of Dust to give asylum to Sorthern footballers

Quintessence of Dust is to bolster its reputation for compassion, tolerance and weird surnames by accepting asylum applications from several footballers fleeing persecution in Sorthern Northland. The two nations have had limited contact in international football and rugby tournaments in the past.

Adam Gropecunt, formerly known as Moe Lester, was sacked from his club for a controversial name change (though many Quodites fail to understand what is so controversial about the name "Adam"), and has been told he will receive a "welcome home" in a League that features such players as Zbigniew Klingon, Dave "My Head Is On Fire Yes?" Palmer, Alexei Glans, and Gumption Spunk.

Such a firing would likely be illegal under Quintessence of Dust's worker protection laws, and Secretary of Labour Chandra Svensgotabrandnewcardigan tonight said, "We hope to give Mr. Gropecunt a new home, and show that being named after famous London streets is not a crime, and that in Quintessence of Dust we accept all people, regardless of their surname. As long as it's not Ahmed."

Perhaps the most moving case is that of Danilo Pignatro, sacked from his club following what foreign news sources have described as an incident involving "the chairman's daughter, a panda and a large pot of mayonnaise". Secretary of State George W. Madison, who has had his own panda-related controversies, is said to have personally approved the application.

"It seems that whenever pandas are involved, everything gets blown right out of proportion," he said, referring to an incident when national golf star and former World Cup goalkeeper Benny Chang was revealed to sleep inside a giant stuffed panda costume. He said he hoped Quintessence of Dust could become "known, above all, as the one place in this unforgiving world where it is ok for a man to love an East Asian herbivorous bear," adding, "I have a dream, that one day, my children will be judged on the strength of their character, not by whether they furtively nibble bamboo."

Season 20

Season 20 marked a major milestone in Ad’ihani football, one marked by all 24 professional clubs with celebratory patches sewn into their season's jerseys. The AFF Challenge Trophy was contested this season between the Ad’ihani league champions Protectorate United, Ad’ihani cup champions Grand Arsenal, Liventian champions Orean United and Liventian runners-up Dover City. However, for the first time since the current four-team round robin format was introduced, no bonus points were awarded.

Orean United dominated the tournament, scoring ten goals in two wins and a draw to win the trophy by one point from Grand Arsenal. Had the original bonus points system of one point for losing by one goal, or scoring three goals a game been used, Orean United would still have won the title.

Pos Team P W D L GF GA GD Pts
1 Orean United (LEN) 3 2 1 0 10 6 4 7

3 Protectorate United 3 1 0 2 4 6 -2 3
4 Dover City (LEN) 3 0 1 2 7 9 -2 1

We have a new champion! After six straight titles, Protectorate United were finally dethroned as rulers of Ad’ihani football, with Mountbatten Junction winning the league by four points. Matchday Five was the last time Mountbatten Junction were not in top spot; they grabbed the lead on MD6 and never gave it up. Surprise package Altsend — 13th last season — finished third, nine points behind the Protectors and ahead of Hatton Town on goal difference.

Dullham and Oldbridge, who finished 12th last season with 33 points, had a miserable season, winning just two of their 30 games to finish last with 20 points less than they had last season, 13 points off 15th placed Flitton City and a further four from safety. The two promoted teams, Flitton Rangers and Olympique Protectorat, finished 13th and 14th respectively.

Howling Scanias Football Association Season 1

The new nation of Howling Scanias has just completed it's first domestic soccer season, which was a great success, with good crowds at matches in both divisions, and a third division may be formed with clubs from the various regional leagues.

Code: Select all
Premier League Season 1

Pos  Team                       P   W   D   L   GF   GA   GD  Pts
   1  Port Adelaide Power       36  19   6  11   77   52   25   63 C TQCC
   2  Tolley United             36  17   9  10   78   61   17   60 TQCC
   3  St Agnes City             36  18   4  14   69   61    8   58 Globe
   4  Para Hills                36  16  10  10   56   49    7   58 Globe
   5  Playford United           36  16   7  13   80   73    7   55

  10  Newton Rebels             36   7   8  21   48   74  -26   29 R

It was a tight first season in the Premier League, made up of the strongest teams from the regionalk leagues that existed before the national league. St Agnes City, champions of last seasons Capital League, were favourites to win the Premier League, but were just not quite good enough, finishing third behind champions Port Adelaide Power and cross-town rivals Tolley United. Newton United struggled in the Premier Division, finishing on just 29 points, 12 behind 9th placed Armed Forces, who lost a relegation battle with Aldgate Eagles and Wingfield Royals. Newton and Armed Forces will spend next season in the Second Division.

Second Division Season 1

Pos  Team                       P   W   D   L   GF   GA   GD  Pts

  10  Marion Rams               36   7   7  22   43   72  -29   28

In the second division, Birkalla were expected to be too good for their rivals, and this was the case, winning the first season in the Second Division, 9 points ahead of Camden City, who will join Birkalla in the Premier League in season 2. Apart from Birkalla winning the season easily, most games were hotly contested, and teams were reasonably close. At this stage no teams will relegate, but if the proposed Third Division goes ahead, Port Adelaide Magpies and Marion Rams may be relegated as the 9th and 10th placed teams, respectively.

Code: Select all
HSFA Cup Season 1

Aldgate Eagles 2-3 Playford United

Semifinals
Seaton Ramblers 3-3 Para Hills (3-5 AET)
Tolley United 4-1 Playford United

Final
Para Hills 2-3 Tolley United

This season also saw the first running of the HSFA Cup. There were a few upsets, Para Hills thumped St. Agnes 4-0 at The Paddocks in the Quarter FInals, but almost lost at Modbury Stadium to Seaton Ramblers. Down 3-1 after 80 minutes, Para Hills scored 2 goals in 5 minutes to take the game into extra time, and then winning 5-3 in extra time. The final was contested between Tolley United and Para Hills, with Tolley United winn 3-2 in a close and exciting game.

The HSFA are hoping to send 2 teams to the Talkquip Champions Cup and Globe Cup. These teams are:
Talkquip Champions Cup: Port Adelaide Power (League Champions), Tolley United (League Runner-up)

Una serie de Futbol, week 23

Skyte City 0 - 3 Pythons
Pythons defeated Skyte away from home to move two places up the league to 2nd.
Pythons forward Frederico scored early on in an accomplished performance from the champions as they breezed past the opposition. A second goal was notched well into the second half when Ishmael Van Dyke scored a right footed drive from outside the box. Van Dyke beat two defenders before unleashing the powerful shot which barely lifted off the ground beating the keeper to the bottom left hand corner of the goal. A late third was added when Tamir El Zahar met the ball at the back post.
Pythons will be hoping to kick on from this victory and reclaim their league title as they are now only 6 points behind league leaders Almondvale.

Jonastown United 1-0 Valengren Kickers
Jonastown shifted off bottom by beating Valengren and overtaking Barbossa in 11th. Somewheristonian Aleixs Berklas scored the only goal of the game after a scuffle in the box saw the ball break free to him on the 6 yard box. Jonastown manager Ricky Ortega commented after the game

“I am delighted for the lads, the goal was a bit lucky but we always looked to be the better team. If we can grind out a few more similar results I’m sure we can stay up.”

The three points saw them shift above Barbossa in the league with a minuscule 1point lead.

Real Minanda 3 – 2 Augustus
A hat-trick for Minanda striker Alan Sherington enabled the struggling side to pick up three valuable points and knock Augustus off second spot. Racing into a 2 – 0 lead Minanda were piped back to two a piece when Augustus forward Jorge Garcia headed from a corner and youngster Wayne Ulrich beat the offside trap to side foot beyond the Augustus keeper. Minanda stole all the points when the referee judged the ball to be handled in the box. Sherington stepped up and smashed the penalty home, capping off his first ever professional hat-trick.

Port Los Renato 1 – 0 Almondvale
League leaders Almondvale were stunned by PLR who snatched all three points in a brutal game which saw ‘Vale reduced to 9 men and Port Los Renato manager Alex Rowley sent to the stands. The first sending off was for two bookable offences Hamilton Vasquez. The second challenge Rowley reacted badly towards and was sent to the stands. This was followed by ‘Vale captain Ugo Stowell being sent off for a lunge on Lionel Vega. Rio Heskey took the penalty which proved enough to take all three points.

Barbossa 2 – 3 Athletic Khaldoon
Barbossa staged a late come back which didn’t prove to be enough as Khaldoon scrapped to victory. Khaldoon were 3-0 up before half time as the Barbossa defence crumbled. Two goals for Craig Jones and one for midfielder Ruud Seedorf looked to have wrapped up the points but Barbossa staged a late fight back as Fernando Espimas and Ariel Veron pulled back two. The fightback proved futile as Barbossa didn’t have enough power up front to grab an equalizer as Veron squandered a handful of chances.

Royal Khaldoon 1 – 1 Ridgemont Town
The teams tied on points could only play out a score draw to keep them in the same place in the league and allow PLR to draw level on points. Royal took an early lead before Tom Smith leveled in the 73rd minute for Ridgemont.

In other league news, Karim Zaki has refused to sign a new contract with Pythons, alerting Royal Khaldoon to the possibility of finally landing the international defender.

Royal manager Keith Fletcher attempted to sign the defender last summer but was unsuccessful as Pythons refused to budge. Zaki has one year remaining on his contract and could walk for free if Pythons arm can’t be twisted when the transfer market reopens in the summer.

Mark Sloan, manager of Pythons has stated he is disappointed Zaki refuses to sign a new contract but understands his prerogative is to look out for himself. Karim hit back, insisting he had been with Pythons since he was a trainee and was looking for a new challenge.

“I have played for Pythons for a long time and have enjoyed every second, especially winning the league title last year. But now is time for a new challenge and a different chapter in my career.”

Royal Khaldoon are favorites to land the centre back following last summer’s unsuccessful attempts but the caliber of the defender has also served as an invitation for foreign sides to attempt to lure Zaki. But before they do they are going to have to mach the reported wage being offered by Royal which is in excess of $100,000 a week. This would put the central defender firmly on parity of pay with Royal’s top earners Tomasz Poborsky and Herbert.

Zaki is not the only player courting the attention of the Royal staff, Sargossan forward Juan Segura is a firm favorite to be added to the squad, with Omid Rustu going in the opposite direction to Valengren Kickers. Royal are also said to be on the lookout for a new goalkeeper and an attacking midfielder. Segura has been with Valengren less than a year bust has already made an impact with the club.

With a reported transfer kitty of over $100,000,000 of the Royal family’s money to invest in new players, next season will surely herald a new era in Una Serie de Futbol and the transfer record smashing a number of times.

Elsewhere Gio Van Dyke has began training with Una Serie strugglers Port Los Renato, the free agent has yet to impress PLR coach Alex Rowley and secure a contract, but if his trial goes well expect to see him make a return to playing at the top level. Rowley confirmed to the press that Van Dyke is training with the Anchormen.

“Giovanni is a quality midfielder and someone who will add extra competition to places. At the minute we’re just assessing his fitness as he’s been out of the game for two and a half years.”

The main surprise of the opening rounds is FK Kinitar '87. Long touted as the best in the nation, possibly in the region, they have screwed up when they had a chance to prove it.

The Valladar Football Association and Hydro, the principal supplier of hydroelectric energy in the country, are presenting the second edition of the Hydro Super League. 16 teams will be fighting to win the title that the Metropolis Alligators obtained the past season. Will the Alligators be able to retain the title? Will the Slateport Bulls be able to wrest the crown from the current champions? or will the newly promoted be the surprise of the season? Here is the first part of the five-parts special coverage of the Hydro Super League, brought to you by the VFA, Hydro and TV1 Valladares.

Standings after Matchday 5:

Code: Select all
Pos  Team                              P   W   D   L   GF   GA   GD  Pts
   1  AS Montreux                      5   4   0   1   10    7    3   13
   2  Tannenberg FC                    5   3   2   0    9    2    7   11
   3  Eterna Stars                     5   3   2   0    8    2    6   11
   4  Slateport Bulls                  5   3   2   0    8    3    5   11
   5  Metropolis Alligators            5   3   2   0    8    3    5   11

   7  Marinos Metropolis               5   2   1   2    7    5    2    7
   8  Chiquito FC                      5   2   1   2    5    5    0    7
   9  Pumas Maldonado                  5   2   1   2    6    7   -1    7
  10  AS Vaud                          5   1   2   2    7    8   -1    5
  11  Hamanos Athletic Club            5   1   2   2    7    8   -1    5
  12  Fontvielle Impact                5   1   2   2    3    7   -4    5
  13  Pradera FC                       5   1   0   4    4    7   -3    3
------------------------------------------------------------------------
  14  RC Belfort                       5   1   0   4    4   12   -8    3
  15  AS Bezieres                      5   0   1   4    4   10   -6    1
  16  AC Tallin                        5   0   1   4    4   14   -10   1

The newly promoted, AS Montreux, is leading the Hydro Super League after the Matchday 5, with 13 points. From the second to the fifth place, four "big" teams are tying in 11 points: Tannenberg FC, Eterna Stars, Slateport Bulls and Metropolis Alligators, the current champions. Tannenberg and Eterna were sharing the first place with 9 out of 9 points in the first 3 matches, until the Matchday 4, when Montreux beat Tallin and "Citizens" and "Stars" tied their respective matches. The last season's champion and runner-up began the league with a 1-1 draw in Slateport. With 10 points, SC Caimanes is sixth and prosecuting the Top-5. Meanwhile, Marinos Metropolis, the Alligators' main rival, is having a disappointing campaign, with 7 points in 5 matches.

In the middle of the standings, there is nothing strange. From the eighth to the thirteenth place, are the same teams that were predicted by the experts: Chiquito, Pumas, Vaud, Hamanos, Fontvielle and Pradera. And the bottom zone, is having three teams battling against relegation: Belfort, Bezieres and Tallin. Bezieres and Tallin are the only teams that haven't won yet.

GRAND NATIONAL SOCCER LEAGUE

Background

Prior to 2012AD, which was the year after the Bear-Belles' successful qualification for -- and, sadly, unsuccessful performance within -- 'World Cup 44', all of the Soccer teams that existed in Bears Armed were only semi-professional or fully amateur in nature and the best of these were divided between four separate 'Leagues' on a geographical basis: Each of those Leagues contained sixteen teams, eight in an 'Upper Half and the other eight in a 'Lower Half', except for the 'Northlands League' where the subdivision was between a 'Western Half' and an 'Eastern Half' instead.

The reorganisation that took effect in 2012 established a new league of twenty-four professional teams, the membership of which consisted of almost all the clubs that had been in the 'Upper Halves' of the three "Mainlands" leagues -- 'Western', 'Central', and 'Eastern' -- at the end of the previous season, although three university-based clubs and two teams that chose to remain non-professional in nature stayed out of it and were replaced by five of the 'Lower Half' teams instead. The 'Northlands League' was not affected by these changes.
This new league, the 'Grand National Soccer League', was divided into a 'First Division' and a 'Second Division', of 12 teams each, with a possibility of up to 4 teams moving up (and another 4 moving down, to replace those, of course) each season. However, unlike the situation in many other nations' Soccer leagues, promotion & relegation at this stage depended not only on the positions that teams held within their Divisions at the end of the main season but also on the results of matches that they were then required to hold against the rivals with whom they could potentially exchange places.
This system was modified in several ways between the 2017 & 2018 seasons: the number of teams in each Division was increased from 12 to 14, the number of teams to be moved between them after each subsequent season was reduced from (4 each way) to (2 each way), and it was agreed that henceforth a total of up to 4 teams per year from what remained of the three "regional" leagues would potentially be allowed to compete for places in the GNS League against whichever clubs ended up at the bottom of the Second Division when each subsequent playing season ended... if they could convince the authorities that they were really "ready" for this step.

The Confrederated Clans (and other Confrederated Bodys) of the Free Bears of Bears Armed
(includes The Ursine NorthLands) Demonym = Bear[s]; adjective = ‘Urrsish’.
Population = just under 20 million. Economy = only Thriving. Average Life expectancy = c.60 years. If the nation is classified as 'Anarchy' there still is a [strictly limited] national government... and those aren't "biker gangs", they're traditional cross-Clan 'Warrior Societies', generally respected rather than feared.
