Cylarn wrote:Character Name: Job (Pronounced "Jobe," but without the "e") Syanlin.
Nickname (If Any): The Stallion of Artosgome.
Titles (If Any): Knight of the Military Order of Artosgome; Lord.
Age: 42.
Appearance: Job.
Personality: Job simply does not have trust for people he is unfamiliar with, though he does not express this fact overtly. He is loyal to the Syanlin line, to a point, but his true loyalties lie with his kingdom. In his interactions with others, he is noted as being a very kind, respectful being, though he can be blunt and even hostile when the situation calls for it. He is ever-suspicious of those outside of his family line, though he knows that too much suspicion could spill over into his outward personality, and poison his image. He is mindful of mannerisms, how people present themselves, and other facets that express people. He understands the desires of people, and using this skill in good faith has made him popular with both the rank-and-file levymen and military officers of the kingdom.
Strengths: - Job is a seasoned warrior, having begun his fighting career at the age of 14 as a simple squire, though from the ages of 16 to 20 he was a foot soldier. His preferred weapon is the sword, though he has also been instructed in the care and usage of the handaxe, the lance, the pike, and the bow. In close combat, he is a vicious combatant, always leading from the front and never giving in to his fear. As is customary among noble families, he began his knighthood training as a boy. He is also skilled at mounted combat.
- Among the military establishment, the courageous officer is highly regarded by both the nobles and the common men. Despite his father's opposition, he started his career in the bowls of the military force at the age of 16. By 20, he had already earned plenty praise from his superiors for his courage, his charisma on the battlefield, and his quick grasp of military strategy and tactics during their fight against the northern barbarians, prompting the king to knight the young warrior. The next 20 years have seen him rise from a lowly noble knight to become an esteemed general in the ranks of the military, advocating for the needs of the military to the nobility, which led to improved training and pay in the military.
- Job is an individual who cannot help but analyze and understand everything. During his knighthood training, his instructor had taught the young boy to be aware of how his enemy fought, and to constantly adapt his fighting style in order to better combat the enemy. He put this skill to great use as a levyman when fighting the barbarians, and it was further honed as he continued his military career. Outside of the battlefield, it was immensely useful when interacting with others.
Weaknesses (Minimum 2): - Unknown to all, Job suffers from an affliction of the mind that is not fully understood, though future study of this affliction would discover Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. He has seen unbridled carnage, and he himself has done horrible things that have left him mentally scarred. Thankfully, his rigorous training as a youth has prevented him from completely losing his fight. The most prevalent symptom would be his recurring nightmares, forcing him to constantly relive the carnage and mayhem that he has witnessed. From time to time, he can grow unresponsive, embroiled in a flashback of some past battle. On rare occasions, he has lashed out at others for no reason whatsover.
- Job's other weakness would be his debauchery. He commonly indulges in alcohol, hashish, and pleasures of the flesh. Nothing else to really say.
Equipment: His equipment varies, as he is no longer a standing officer in the military. He is never without his blade, which is a steel bastard sword. When in combat, his armor depends on his affiliation. When fighting for his family alone, he usually chooses a jack-o-plait setup (think Dawnguard armor from Skyrim), while he dons a much more protective plate armor setup when he is fighting for his kingdom. He has been known to wear the jack-o-plait in more "clandestine" military operations, especially ones that require him to fight aboard a ship.
Biography: Job Syanlins was luckily born in to the Syanlins Family lineage, the nephew of the current patriarch. He lived a rather comfortable life among the nobility as a child, receiving basic tutoring up until the age of 8, when his parents placed him under the care of Sir Roderic Mercer, a wealthy knight who had agreed to take the young lad in as a Page to learn the ways of Knighthood. He spent 4 years as a Page, receiving thorough educational instruction, rigorous martial training, the code of chivalry, and strict discipline and bearing from Sir Roderic, who intended to ensure that the young man would be ready for the rigors of combat. Job learned learned his skills quickly and his resilience grew, allowing him to endure much of the physical and mental abuse. At the age of 13, he made a squire of Sir Roderic.
His responsibilities soon placed him as a personal steward to his master, where he truly began to learn the path he had been embarking on. At the age of 14, he got his first taste of combat, carrying the colors of his master into battle against a hastily-assembled militia of rebelling peasants. The conflicts were relatively low-intensity and quick, doing little more than pumping up the young squire. He enjoyed the thrill of battle at the time, the adrenaline pumping through his veins as he and his master rode into combat, steadily clapping his coconut halves. A bond of trust grew between the two, and Job was eventually allowed to travel on his own around the city, actively spending time with his family and getting into all sorts of youthful trouble. He was enjoying life, until he was suddenly railroaded by reality.
Out of nowhere,Job was stripped of his title, and Sir Roderic forcibly conscripted into the military. Much to Job's disgust at being betrayed by his master, his parents sided with Sir Roderic. He had no idea why Roderic would do such a thing, but he decided that he had nothing better to do than fight. He received further training as a levy, before he was sent up north to battle barbarians as part of a military operation to secure the borders of the kingdom. the conflict was brutal and terrifying, even for Job. He became much more fierce, distinguishing himself in the brutal wilderness fighting that dominated the conflict. For four years, he remained isolated from his fighting as he began to feel a greater loyalty to the men around him than he felt for his lineage.
During one particular battle, he was reunited with his former master, as the two proved themselves to be paramount in repulsing a barbarian charge. It was on that day that he truly learned why he had been unexpectedly stripped of his squirehood; Sir Roderic intended for his protege to truly see warfare at its most brutal form, to see the world for what it truly was. He passed his test, and he attested to the battlefield knighting as the proudest moment of his life. Upon returning home, he was welcomed with open arms.
His military career only took him to greater heights, and he showed deft skill at all forms of land combat, particularly in terms of mounted combat. Even as a general, he led his horsemen and knights from the front, and he was branded as "The Stallion" by the nobility. He was a staunch advocate for the military faction of the kingdom, tirelessly fighting for their rights as though he was back up north. In recent days, his attention has shifted to the rivals of his family, as he feels that the power balance must be maintained.

- Ruthless persona - Ever since he done with the northern wars he gained a rather ruthless attitude on how to deal with situations. The men under his command fear they will get them killed. A man without feeling any pity for his enemies or friends alike as his cruel nature likes to torment other people especially he likes to torture them.

- Paranoid - He has a general distrust towards others, he always double checks his subordinates to make sure they followed his orders right.
Biography:
Sigmund's distant blood relation to the Syanlin family made him knew from his early days that he had to find his own way into the world. After his father's and brothers sudden deaths when he was 6 and his mother's increasing withdrawn attitude, they decided to leave the Manor of Lions and relocate themselves to the Vocanni estate in Hightown, Lamazanni. Although a Syanlin, he adopted the Vocanni name in his early age as he was raised among them. Thanks to both his families he was squired to Duke Dakamira Seakk's brother Sir Patrek who oversaw the levies of the city at the time, things were normal for many years while he spent beautifully his time with the Vocanni but all changed when the levies where ordered to be raised by the Duke's command as his Grace had called them to war on the north.
Sigmund was 14 at the time when they were called to war. At the age of 15, after he spent a year with Sir Patrek on the battlefield he was knighted and awarded a small keep on a mountainous pass to stop any barbarian incursion, the keep was called Viper's Nest.... There Sigmund learned first handed how "interrogations" were happening on the prisoners which involved using the whip, burning their hair and skin, flaying and his favourite throwing them to the viper's nest which were many with many hungry snakes within. When winter came, food shortages were high and they had to decrease their prisoners which they done happily as they disposed them to the vipers or throwing them for the battlements down the mountain but there was a rumor that the Viper's Nest and it's garrisson had fallen to cannibalism in order to survive, Sigmund though doesn't remember that time as memories are blurry - mayharps from shame or pride? we shall never know and neither he but what he remembers is the endless torture he did on his prisoners, which he made quite happily.
The Viper's Nest had taken quite a sinister reputation especially under it's infamous commander - Sigmund who from a sweet god loving boy he became a cynical & deceitful man. One new reinforsments came to replace the garrisson after 2 years, they found their horror the mutilated bodies which caused sucpicion among them - that very sucpicion was the end of them as swords had risen and allies killed each other. The few survivors burned the keep and the bodies before they leave, for the next few years they fought under Sigmund's command alongisde with the royal army. They norrowly escaped the wrath of their superiors as none dared to tell the truth but Sigmund wanted to shut their mouths for good...
The moment he needed was given during the battle of the Flent Wood, where he dispatched his men to be killed to make sure the story will never reach no ones ears. The only survivor of the Viper's Nest, the white viper gained the fame or infamy on whose pont of view, of the tue survivor. At the age of 20 he returned back to his home, a bit richer & far more well connected as the Duke made him Commander of the Liongate and made some of his lackeys watchmen so that he can "trusted" eyes and ears into the city.
He still uses the Vocanni surname so that he won't become a target by his father's family enemies yet still the Vocanni surname is a bit problematic but it gives more freedom of movement around without arousing any sucpicion as very few know their blood relation. When the Syanlin family calls, he will be there to help them.
Relation to the Syanlins Family: Sigmund hailes from Aser's great-grandfather's brother and he is the last decendant from that line as his father and brother died from pox. Despite his father was a Syanlin, he preffered not using his family's name due to the distant relation towards them but instead he adopted the Vocanni nameshake instead due his mother was the second daughter to the current patriach of the House which meant he was on a far more priviliged position as he was raised properly. Also he uses the Vocanni surname so that he can halp the Syanlin family in secret.

Anything else we should know?: My char is a Syanlin n blood but he prefers using the Vocanni surname of his mother instead.
