Legends. Stories scattered through time. Mankind has grown quite fond of recounting the exploits of heroes and villains, forgetting so easily that we are remnants, byproducts, of a forgotten past.
Man, born from dust, was strong, wise, and resourceful, but he was born into an unforgiving world. An inevitable darkness — creatures of destruction — the creatures of Grimm - set their sights on man and all of his creations. These forces clashed, and it seemed the darkness was intent on returning man's brief existence to the void.
However, even the smallest spark of hope is enough to ignite change, and in time, man's passion, resourcefulness, and ingenuity led them to the tools that would help even the odds. This power was appropriately named "Dust."
Nature's wrath in hand, man lit their way through the darkness, and in the shadow's absence came strength, civilization, and most importantly, life. But even the most brilliant lights eventually flicker and die. And when they are gone... darkness will return.
So you may prepare your guardians, build your monuments to a so-called "free world," but take heed... there will be no victory in strength.

Salutations! Storm here. This RP is going to be about RWBY, which is an animated series created by the late Monty Oum. (Yes, he died, and the title is a show of respect for him.) RWBY is set in Remnant, which is like Earth, only with the addition of faunus, transformable weapons, a certain crystal power source, a broken moon and monsters, which are known as the Creatures of Grimm. You are going to take the role of a huntsman or huntress in training, who will be attending at Beacon Academy, one of the most prestigious of huntsman academies. How you may have got in, keep that to yourself. You will be also forming teams of four with other huntsmen and huntresses to defend humanity from the evils of the Grimm. Don't worry, faunus. You are also part of their protection. Then there is stuff like semblances and the types of weapons to choose from, but I'm not going to fill you in on everything, so go here to the RWBY Wiki to find out more.
Now for the rather brief history of mankind in Remnant!
The Grimm appeared at around the same time as mankind (including faunus). They and their creations were often targeted because... ummm... Anyways, mankind was driven to the bink of extinction until they discovered Dust and fought back. Once the Grimm were driven back, they were able to form kingdoms, which are more like pocket settlements or city-states. These kingdoms (Atlas, Vacuo, Mistral and Vale) survived because of their protective natural barriers, which gave the humans room to prosper.
However, the Grimm don't simply go away. Those who have experienced mankind's ways of repelling them have learned when to attack, and so have become more powerful, living up to many centuries. Their chosen tactic is to stay close to the borders of humanity, waiting for the time where they can end their existence on this planet.
Faunus are humans with animal traits like horns or animal ears. Their human counterparts saw them as inferior species, often treated like slaves and widely discriminated. Eventually, they couldn't take this oppression anymore, and revolted, starting off the Faunus Rights Revolution, also known as the Faunus War. The faunus won, and humanity gave them rights. This is where the White Fang come in, as an organization to symbolize peace with the humans. But alas, there was still the discrimination part to deal with, and the White Fang defended the faunus through the use of words, protests, and boycotts.
At around five years before the present, the White Fang had a change in leadership. After their leader stepped down, another one took his place, who had a different way of getting equality for the faunus. Thus the White Fang became a terrorist organization, and began to use violence as a means to earn respect. And somehow it worked. They did earn respect and equal rights from some humans, out of fear of any more attacks.
I know, there is also a mysterious "Great War" in there, but it wasn't fleshed out yet. Anyways, do well at Beacon, and you may find yourself with the tools and knowledge necessary to defend mankind against evil.
