Furthermore, I was born a Spanish citizen (by right of blood) and became a naturalised British citizen in 2012; I was born in London and I have lived there my entire life but my parents couldn't be bothered to apply for British citizenship so I was forced to do it on my own.

I was born in Zimbabwe to a white Zimbabwean mother and a white (Afrikaner) Swazi father. I refrain from identifying as an Afrikaner owing to the fact that I cannot speak Afrikaans but as soon as I'm able to have a conversation in that language I will declare myself one. So I'm just a white Swazi-Zimbabwean living in South Africa. Whenever I have enough time and money I'll apply for South African citizenship and maybe even British Overseas citizenship although I'm still not absolutely certain of my eligibility to obtain the latter.

Yes the French had the Midwest at one point, the British had the east coast, native Americans were everywhere, Germans immigrated to America big time, the Irish came when the famine occured for work (most joined the railway industry), and the Chinese immigrated to the west coast.

I wouldn't bank on that SA citizenship any time soon. The rate of response for immigration inquiries can be absolutely ridiculously bad. People have died of old age waiting for things to be processed. If you're living here, I'm sure you're familiar with the big story that broke in Joburg a few years back about the oke who applied for some travel papers, didn't get them for three years, and finally took an official hostage at gunpoint until they gave him what he needed.

It took me almost two years to get everything sorted the first time I received my passport, and that was only after many exhausting hours standing in queues and pestering the living hell out of a specific individual via phone, e-mail, and interview. Then again my flatmate got his in six months' time, minimal fuss. Go figure - bloody Effrika inconsistency.
