P2TM Translation Service Thread

Postby Alleniana » Thu Jan 01, 2015 6:53 pm

Considering just how often RPing will branch into different cultures and languages, many of which are not in the mainstream or are much too complicated to simply do research into and get a feel for, this thread was created; a place for the gathering of those experienced in one language or another, in order that realism might not be tainted by incorrect grammar or unsuitable names.

Here, hopefully, people with at least semi-decent knowledge of various languages gather to share knowledge. If you are able to help translate or work with any language, please fill in the application below, so that you can be added to the roster. Please don't feel as if it is a commitment; though people will seek you out, you aren't obligated to do anything. On the other hand, if you'd like help with a language or something of the sort, fill out the other relevant application, and somebody, or perhaps several people, should be able to get back to you.

Fill this in if you are able to provide translation help; detail your level of expertise if it is anything below average fluency or proficiency. This can be indicated by italicisation in the listings. You are advised to put in whether you want to be italicised to indicate level of expertise, and also to consider other linguistic categories, ideas and concepts you have expertise in, i.e. IPA or etymology. Please note, if you have experience with sign languages, Braille, or other non-conventional languages, those would be welcomed too.

If you need help with translating, fill this in. Include information such as what form or script you want it in.

While there are these forms to fill in, you don't have to go by them if you don't want to; in general, this is just a broad thread for consulting and accessing the community to find what you want. Feel free to discuss and go back and forth. The goal here is make sure people can get the accurate information they need, something that may come as a premium otherwise.

I'll ask you to put down the stuff that you are able to work with at least on a basic grammatical/conversational basis. I might also create something like tiers; experts and natives going in one, students and dabblers in another.

It isn't exactly the same as standard Dutch. Just pay close attention to differences in words and sometimes even grammar.

True but spend some time in West Flanders and you'll find out how different it really is. The kind of "Flemish" you're used to is standard "Belgian Dutch".
As for real Flemish I need to pay attention and sometimes ask the speaker to repeat it.

I might, but probably outside of P2TM.

My friend, I've shared a house with 3 other people from the heart of West Flanders and even I couldn't understand a word they were saying at times.

They say it's a version of Dutch but I have ran into Bavarians that were more easily understood... and they didn't speak Dutch (or English).

Wow, this response
:p

I've put people who have said that they are less fluent/learned in languages in italics, so that if all else fails, we can go to them, but normally, simply refer to those out of italics. Is that fine?

Also, have I made any other errors?

Be advised my French involves a degree of google translated words puzzled together with what I've retrained from my grammar lessons.

Depending on my free time the results may vary.

Anything better than Google Translate is good. *nod*

Any suggestions for how to format the list?

You could probably put me in Italics for Spanish too; I like to think I know it decently well, although Zark seems to have a stroke any time I write it.
