1: I support LGBT rights within our country. While my religious beliefs might appose it my religious faith and my politics are seperate entities. Without a religious backing any sort of legal repression of the LGBT community is inharently illogical and irrational. We are a secular government or at least we intend to be as well as a free and just society and repression of our nations LGBT community goes against such values. I support Gay Marriage as I believe marriage should not be something delegated by the national government.

2: I'm not worried about whaling as much as others are. I understand the threats of over hunting and should set in place systems to help prevent such things whaling as a whole in my mind isn't a serious issue. I'm concerned more with things like piracy and the like and think that the Calaverdian navy should be active in hunting down and destroying pirates wherever we possibly can.

3: Im a supporter of federalism and believe that we should find a balance between give people a way to pope fly express their ethnic heritage while also keeping a unified national identity. Wether we are Dutch, French, Native, Spanish or anything we can be proud of that but we can also be proud to be from Calaverde.

1. What are your views on LGBT rights, and would you like to see legalization of gay marriage?

If two people love each other, they should be able to wed. The only sources that condemn gay marriage are religious texts, which should have no bearing in how we run our government.

2. How do you believe the international community should handle illegal activities occurring on international waters, like whaling?

The International bodies that prohibit such activities should be responsible for enforcing the prohibition of them. If they are unwilling to, then what is the point of prohibiting them? More should be done to protect the whales, and quite frankly, not enough is being done now. Bringing nations that break the bans to the International Court of Justice is a step in the right direction.

3. How much autonomy should the indigenous people's of Calaverde be allowed?

As much autonomy that allows for a strong and united Calaverde. Decentralizing the entire government to fit the 'needs' of the indigenous and minority people of Calaverde will not work, nor will granting them independence. A United Calaverde is the best Calaverde.

4. What are your thoughts on abortion?

Senator Antonella Acosta

1. I fought with the PFLE against military rule. They killed many of my comrades and left me with scars both visible and invisible, it is safe to say that I hate them for what they did to the people of Calaverde.

2. I speak Spanish, French, and English. I am currently trying to learn Dutch.

3. Israel has a right to self determination, as does the State of Palestine. I hope the instability in the region can be resolved through peaceful means.

4. Abortion should be legalised, and provided free of charge by the government. If the woman does not want to give birth, then she should have the choice not to do so.

1. What are your views on LGBT rights, and would you like to see legalization of gay marriage? personally i would vote against legislation legalizing the matter, but marriage in in a court room is not holy matrimony and as such does not directly conflict with the churches teachings

2. How do you believe the international community should handle illegal activities occurring on international waters, like whaling? I dont have an opinion

3. How much autonomy should the indigenous people's of Calaverde be allowed? none at all

1.Gay marriage is immoral and be prohibited. However, it should be left up to the provinces to decide on its legality. Outside of that, I'm not opposed to LGBT rights.

2.The nearest nation, (or in this case Calaverde) should take action on the matter. For me, piracy would be more of an issue than whaling.

3. Same amount as any other citizen. We shouldn't give people special favors just because they were born in a particular group.

Mixed. Cuba is an oppressive Marxist regime that should not be supported, but however, the current policy of isolating Cuba isn't working.

1. LGBT and the like are entitled to just as many rights as anybody else. We cannot truly call ourselves a just, free and fair nation until we legalize Gay Marriage on a Federal Level.

2. I think we need to do everything in our power as a nation and on the international stage to protect our huge biodiversity, especially in the forests and waters, in this case waters. In our nation, Whaling and Piracy should be swiftly- and effectively- taken care of by the Calaverdean Coast Guard, in a non-violent fashion when possible. Considering we join the UN, they make the rules but it's up to member states to enforce them. I think we as a nation are doing a good job of keeping our coast safe, but other nations may have trouble- Somalia, for instance, is a hub for Piracy. I think it should be up the the government of those affected countries to ask for help from the international community, however due to the size of our nation and the amount of money we have, funding extranational expeditions to enforce international law is money best spent somewhere else.

3. We can't forget the people who were here before us- due to the arrival of colonists, the native population of this island was decimated. We took their land and killed most of them. That's not justified, but I also think that it's been too long that we've lived here to not be granted equal status as nationals. We don't need reserves or the like, we just need to eradicate potential racism towards the native peoples and encourage growth within their communities and cultural integration to form a united Calaverde. It's been proven that when immigrants isolate themselves from other cultures, it leads to bad results. In this case, it's the natives who choose to do this, and it results in a great divide between the cultures of our nation.

Overall, the native people shouldn't be granted tribal autonomy or the right to make their own laws- we have the Senate for that, and they can become Senators if they wish, or even the leader of our country. We should, however, make a push to get rid of racism and possible segregation and encourage cultural diffusion for the benefit of our nation.

3. How much autonomy should the indigenous people's of Calaverde be allowed?

1. Calaverde ought to be a beacon of liberalism for Central America and the Caribbean, and as such we must protect personal freedoms whenever possible. This not only includes the legalization of gay marriage, but also legal protections for the LGBT community.

2. Maritime law can be tricky at times, and it is not my field of legal expertise. My brother Pedro works on these matters and advises me that sovereign states should not approach these issues on their own, rather working through international bodies or NGOs to come to a relatively standard conflict resolution process. We as legislators must make sure that such bodies exist to facilitate these discussions, and that Calaverde has a seat at the table.

3. As with any minority, they deserve governmental protection of their culture and the freedom to conduct their standard cultural activities. Political autonomy is not feasible at the moment, but what is feasible is to give the indigenous population a voice in the government. Precisely how to do that, I am not the judge, but I think there should be a debate.

I think first we need to get rid of all unfair barriers to joining the military. This includes any bans inflicted by the Junta against people of color, different orientation or transgender status. Getting rid of the gender binary is not something I'd recommend, as there are too many different 'genders' outside male and female that I think intersex people should just choose one to be referred to as- sir or ma'am, to avoid confusion. I understand transgender rights is an incredibly toxic and controversial topic, and my current stance that I described is a weak one- I will actively pursue any other solution if I can. I would just like to break the age-old tradition of dishonest, money-laundering politicians who take advantage of the people.

As for actual military intervention, that's a no-go. We're a small country with an inconvenient location that just got out of a brutal civil war. We can't afford to send aid to troubled regions such as the Middle East. Humanitarian aid I have no problem with, but military reinforcement would not be beneficial at this time. And even in the future, we should adopt a policy of Pragmatic non-interventionism. If for whatever reason the United States is invaded by an unprovoked outside force, we should definitely support them with military force if we have the manpower to spare. Perhaps if we grow to have a larger population and bigger influence in the world, we can send humanitarian and military missions to conflicted areas such as Ukraine or the Levant to keep the peace in accordance with International Law. For now, however, other countries' problems are their problems only and we don't have the ability right now to be a world police officer.

Questions for all senators,

(1. Do you think the so called "Pink Tide" that has swept portions of Latin America could harm Calaverde?

(2. Should our nation look into taking part in free trade agreements similar to CAFTA?

(3. How can Calaverde have a bigger voice on the global stage? Furthermore, should it?

1. What are your views on LGBT rights, and would you like to see legalization of gay marriage?
As an openly bisexual person myself, I strongly support LGBT rights, same-sex adoption, the legalization of same-sex marriage, and protection against discrimination. The people of Calaverde deserve to be treated equally no matter who they love.
2. How do you believe the international community should handle illegal activities occurring on international waters, like whaling?
I believe that the international community should crack down on whaling in international waters and end legal whaling, even for scientific research, along with other forms of illegal actives, like piracy. I believe that the Calaverdean Navy should certainly assist in the enforcement of the law in the waters.
3. How much autonomy should the indigenous people's of Calaverde be allowed?
As a member of an ethnic and linguistic minority in Calaverde myself, I strongly support giving autonomy to the indigenous peoples of Calaverde. All peoples, including the indigenous, deserve the right to self-determination.

1. A shift to leftism is beneficial to leftists. Being one, I'm obviously gladdened to see that more and more nations in our region are switching to common sense. There's a reason El Partido Tradicionalista will never be elected, and though it's much to their detriment, I think it's good that we're adopting a more pragmatic and informed worldview.

2. Quite possibly. Opening up our markets to more and more countries will result in the globalization of our economy- for better or for worse. We could definitely benefit from FTAs with other countries.

3. Well first off, I think we don't need unwanted attention. People pay attention to the every move of the United States, but when do you ever hear about the smaller countries like Nauru or Sint-Maarten? To have a bigger voice in world affairs, we need to increase our involvement in it- interacting with major powers, taking part in international affairs. For example, if we sent a massive humanitarian mission to the Middle East to help survivors of ISIS tyranny, I'm sure that would earn us some praise and recognition. But for now I think we'd be better off keeping to ourselves while we rebuild the nation. In the future, yes, but now, we need to be selfish and conservative in a polite way. That's a strange way to put it...

    1. Well, to be fair, I would like to see a legalization of same sex marriage for one reason, and that it is to be legalized for the sake of happiness. Happiness of the individual leads to greater happiness of the community. At least, due to my utilitarian stance on civil rights.

    2. No real comment, since I'm not too well learned in said field. It is, in a way, a case of the 'tragedy of the commons' such illegal activity of the sort.

    3. As much as they need to feel self fulfilled.

    (3. How can Calaverde have a bigger voice on the global stage? Furthermore, should it?

    1. Depends on the situation. For what I can see is that Pink Tide's main ideals are noble, just the leaders are incompetent and inept at executing it, or just plain corrupt. A strong left wing is desirable, so long as it is kept in check with moderates.

    2. Free trade with neighboring countries is desirable, yes.

    3. For now, we must focus on reform from within. How is one to participate in a bigger game when we still have our own issues to deal with? I mean, sure, we can voice solidarity, but other than that, we should focus on our own issues, with the help of ethical and beneficial international trade with other nations.

    1. What was your relationship, if any, with the Calaverdean Junta?

    2. How many languages do you speak?

    3. What are your thoughts on Israel?

    4. What are your thoughts on abortion?

    1. During that time I wasn't too concerned with politics. However, I did protest through some of the artwork I did, and got imprisoned for a short while in 2007. But beyond that, nowadays, I am an outspoken critic of the former members of the Junta.

    3. I am strongly opposed of Israel's actions. However, I do believe both sides must be accounted for and judged accordingly for war crimes.

    4. Necessary evil. However, I am personally opposed to it.
