Does my national motto have to be attributed to my nation's leader?
If your nation has addressed an Issue that led you to set a Leader, then on your Rift nation page, your National Motto gets attributed to that person. This isn't ideal for many nations, it seems, so we will look at removing that.

I don't think that the motto's attributed person should be removed, but as (I can't remember, it was a few pages back) said, there should be a column in the settings, to choose a name for what you want there instead of the leader.

Love it! NS is totally updated!

Only thing, would it be difficult to sort of move the image around once it's been uploaded? So like, let's say the image I'm using is 600x600, could I move it to center at a specific spot as opposed to it just sitting in the center of the image? Small question, and yeah I know I could just as easily edit the image and upload it that way.

Dunno if it was mentioned yet, but...When I'm on the forums, there's no direct way (that I see) to get back to my nation. I have to either click on the forum name, then the nation, or click an option on the left, then click the nation name at the top.

I don't understand. You get one custom slot at 50 million, another at 200 million. Find a happy FT banner and make it your primary when you hit 50 mil, which takes what, 2 weeks? You only need one banner to say "I'm freakin' FT, baby!" Why do we need a total of 10 custom banners?

So I ran into this little issue with the top bar while on the Region page trying to post to the RMB using my iPad and Chrome. If you scroll on the page and tap the text box to bring up the on screen keyboard, the top bar will obscure the text box and stick there until the keyboard is cleared from the screen. It doesn't seem to occur again after the keyboard is cleared and brought back up again to type.

Attached are a couple of screenshots of what exactly seems to be happening to me.

Regarding the Rift Theme, specifically the sidebar...

Why the ever pressing need to advertise the book in the side bar is beyond me particularly when it is not for sale in my country? I have already spoken to Max about obtaining the book and have been told that the publishers are still in disagreement of terms. It frustrates me much to see a constant reminder of something that I cannot have and no way to remove it. I have donated in the hopes of removing all advertisements, this one apparently eludes that provision.

Further the sidebar needs to float from its position as it does in the NS++ extension that I am, for one at least, aware that the Administrators of Nationstates now have access to. Would it not be beneficial to the reader if they can access the sidebar no matter how far they have scrolled downwards or upwards or indeed in any other direction that they care to please? Such a small change for such an improvement in usability is a price worth paying is it not?

A few things, re: questions I've seen asked here.

@Unibot & other frequent WA voters - Yes, there is a WA vote notification. If memory serves, it's similar to the "new RMB message" notification in the sidebar (i.e. (1) or (2) )

@People having issues with the Top Nav Bar - I've used the Top Nav Bar for years (waaaaay before Rift was even the beginning of an idea in [v]'s mysterious mainframe), and I think it's pretty straightforward. If you think you can't see your nation name or the telegrams or your region or .... whatever, try a hard refresh. That will hopefully fix whatever hiccups you're having. (Same goes if [v] says in the future that she's fixed XYZ bug. I know my layout got borked a few times after Rift upgrades were made.)

However, for those wanting a pictographic example of the Top Nav Bar ....

Image

I think it's pretty self-explanatory. I'm Mousebumples, I don't have any unread TGs right now. ( *sadface* ;) ) And my region is Europeia. The WA reference also has a (1) or (2) notification when there's new resolutions at vote. And, of course, the same goes for News when there are new News Updates.

Personally, I love it. But I realize I may be in the minority on that one. :P

Removing or simply moving that add might also both create more space for the sidebar, and make the side and top bar blend seamlessly, which would probably please many.

It floats in NS++ in century. I've already brought that and several other NS++ -based problems up in the NS++ thread, and I might even be ninja'd by someone else telling you to go post it there :P I went back to century for now so I can use my puppet list (another issue it's having), so please do add any further errors you come across there, in the right thread :)

There are two banners that could pass for FT compared to numerous MT cityscape banners. Some players have expressed an interest in seeing more planets or perhaps some star clusters. Some have expressed an interest in more nature scenes (pre-industrial nations) or a castle. It's not a big deal. Wistful daydreams emerge as lads fiddle with settings. Players I've talked with seem thrilled with Rift for the most part; everything I've seen in IRC indicates they're content with uploading 2 or 3 images.

Mentorish advice to people: Banners are good but we also have factbooks. These are ideal for adding personal touches to a nation. Ponderosa's guide walks players through a wiki style entry; this guide is a good world-building tool. Players can also use free web sites to boost the nation's online presence. Build and then link through your factbook. [V]'s code tweaks allow you to craft a unique factbook entry, like this.

I really like the banner system, but must custom banners be resized to 150 x 100 px? It doesn't look very good when blown up on the nation page, while the default banners don't seem to have any resolution problems whatsoever.

So, I tried it out, and aside from one detail (maybe two, haven't really checked out the second), I like it.

My main issue is that there's no Dark version of it. The other issue is that I'm not entirely sure if it works with NS++ or not.

I love where this is going, and can't wait until things like NS++ integrate with it fully. Just a couple notes, though:

  • I couldn't help but notice that the Custom #4 banner is currenly unavailable to me, even though my nation has more than 5 billion citizens (and other banners with that particular requirement - like Urban Sprawl - are available).
  • What was the rationale for having both a sidebar and a topbar? Is that just temporary? Was it a deliberate design choice? I feel like even on the tiny secondary monitor on the desktop I'm typing this on (a 1366x768) there's plenty of space on the top for more buttons - and even if that weren't the case, I figure it should be feasible to collapse everything into a reduced view (perhaps with Logout/Switch/Settings in a drop-down instead of having their own items on the main bar) and/or a "hamburger" menu or somesuch to accommodate smaller screens while making the best use of larger screens.
  • On that note, there looks like there's some opportunity for simplification. For example, do we really need Dossier and Activity (or Notices and Activity) to be separate items? Activity seems like a good candidate for merging into either Notices or Dossier. Then there's Logout/Switch as mentioned above. If the above suggestion is implemented, even $region / World Assembly / The World seem like they could be somehow merged.
  • I feel like the NationStates / "Max Barry Author of Lexicon" ad / etc. should be at the very top-left (pushing the nation name / flag to the right to make room, and perhaps condensing it down to a normal button; alternately, perhaps just have the nation name/flag replace the NationStates logo for logged-in users, since they probably already know what NationStates is and that they're logged into it ;) ). Right now it looks awkward at the top of the sidebar instead of the left of the topbar.
  • The badges don't match the new theme very well; they'd look pretty snazzy as Rift-style vectory images. I'm sure y'all are already planning on that, though.

But yeah, looking awesome so far. I'll definitely be trying it on as my normal theme and seeing how it works out.

Grenartia wrote:So, I tried it out, and aside from one detail (maybe two, haven't really checked out the second), I like it.

It barely works. The NS++ stuff does show up, but it's not yet adapted to Rift, so it still has the Century appearance. Some things will look funny as a result (the buttons for "Puppets" and "NS++ Settings" being off-center from the rest of the topbar buttons, "Gameplay News" and "Roleplay News" being squished-looking because of the lack of icons, buttons on the nation page being off-center because of the "Challenge", "World Assembly", and "NSWiki" links not being themed yet, etc.).

And yeah, seconding the Dark version; while I'm not a Dark user, I can see how that would be useful/nice.

Maybe try turning off the sidebar? I have a feeling that might be the cause.

The Lone Star Republics wrote:Tift is great, mobile soon?

Mobile is probably the point of this, ultimately (at least if you interpret "mobile" to include tablets, which I do, since tablets are indeed quite mobile); the bigger buttons are much friendlier for touchscreen users (though it's currently a bit heavy on "hover over me to see what I am!").
