Governor Toby walked into his office. He looked out the window, from which he could see the border with Russia. He sighed, "What happened to the good old days when Poles were well respected by the Russians." He paused. "And the Germans."

"Your majesty, tensions between Russia and Germany have always been far too high. The white army is still amassed at our borders, and I believe they don't plan to stand down."
General Weismer spoke up "We can force them to stand down then. We ripped Poland and Lithuania from their grips; we can do it again. Heck, we could probably rip the rest of the Baltics from their ha-"

The President sighed, obviously irritated. Stacks of papers surrounded him on the desk. Bored, he looked at the window, where he had a very beautiful sight of the city. The mansion itself was situated a mile from it, in order to give the President a little privacy. For two hundred years the mansion had stood, a symbol of wealth and power for the United Provinces. He knew that there were over 8 million residents, being roused from their sleep. Children would be running along the sidewalk, going to school. The thought made him smile, for he had two children - a son and a daughter - himself.

He shook his head. Now wasn't the time to get distracted, especially when he had important paperwork to do. He took a glance at the calendar which hung by his desk, showing things he needed to do. Today...he had an important appointment with the Minister of Foreign Affairs. He also had to prepare for an upcoming speech, and get a new suit and tie. The President heard two, firm knocks on the door. "Come in, Maria" He said loudly enough for her to hear. The door opened with a creak, and a middle aged woman entered. She was tenderly carrying a white china plate, and on it was a mug of coffee.

"Good morning" The President smiled, taking the mug. He took a sip of coffee. His wife returned the smile. "Good morning. The children are a bit rowdy today. They're in the play room, of course. Would you like them to come see you?"

"Not right now, Maria. I have enough problems to deal as of right now. You've heard about the troublesome guerillas in the East Province..." He grumbled. "I need to authorize additional troops to be deployed there. I'm busy..."

"You and your politics..." His wife sighed "Anyway, someone wants to see you. He looks like some sort of general, he's wearing a military uniform."

"A general? I don't see any scheduled appointment."

"He said he didn't have an appointment with you, but he would like to see you."

"Shall we open ourselves to the weaknesses of foreign nations? Would our forebears have made these same errors in judgment? I say no!"

The upper house of parliament was meeting for the first time since the quelling of the riots. In London and Oslo, Paris and Cardiff, Edinburgh and Stockholm - even in normally peaceable Reykjavik - the people had taken to the streets to express their anger and fear. A reduction in isolation and increase of global interdependence, as outlined in the King's Message to the world at large via GOVNET, had triggered a violent reaction in the conservative majority.

The United Kingdom of Northern Europe had formed in the wake of catastrophic economic collapses. Complete disaster had been averted only because the former United Kingdom had held itself aloof of the European Union and its euro. Much of Scandinavia had lobbied for shelter under the still-viable British pound. When the Nordic nations stabilised, France had come with hat in hand. All were sincerely welcomed; the Brits had not taken the opportunity to lord it over their neighbours, now housemates, though to do so would have been very easy. Instead, the British people had expressed a fellowship and sympathy that was all too rare in those very pragmatic times.

As Great Britain became Greater, and as the kingdom included the beneficiary nations, relief became caution. No one wanted to experience another event like the European Collapse. Conservative values became most popular and isolationist policies were held in place in Parliament. Riding the surge of popular support, conservative parties enjoyed majority governments - none more so than the Valkyrie Party. Comprised of the more conservative representatives of England, Norway, and Sweden, the Valkyries held both Houses of Parliament in their tight fists for the better part of a half century. Recently, that popularity had begun to drop off and those more liberal elements of the government - including the currently reigning King George VIII - decided perhaps now was the right time to open up the UK's foreign policy.

It seemed they were in error. And now the Valkyrie Party's popularity was greater than ever.

Leading the Valkyries was Lady Jane Baring, the Baroness Northbrook. She was speaking now.

"I say again, no!" she declared to choruses of "Hear! Hear!" from the majority of the House. Only one peer, an earl aligned with Plaid Cymru, hollered, "Shame!" He was roundly ignored.

"We have prospered through our cautious foreign policies. We have protected the subjects of the realm and we have prevented another economic disaster. The proposed reduction in our financial securities through increased - and I quote - freedom of trade will have dire consequences for Greater Britain. Indeed, for all of the United Kingdom." Hill sat, relinquishing the floor to thunderous applause and pounding on the hardwood tiers.

The Lord Speaker motioned for order. When the House subsided, he spoke. "The noble Lord of Caernarfon will now be heard."

Count Owainn Herbert, the 10th Earl of Caernarfon, and who had shouted in opposition to Lady Baring, stood and cleared his throat before addressing the Lords.

"Lord Speaker, the noble Baroness seems to be forgetting that the so-called fiscal restraint, the conservative policy of - and I quote - austerity, an idealistic and deliberately obfuscating euphemism if ever I heard one, has choked the majority of subjects within our great realm into abject poverty. Public education suffers and limits the opportunities of our underserved graduates, the National Health Service is divided into social tiers that no one seems willing to acknowledge let alone address, and our imports are taxed with ever-heavier tariffs and duties. It has been clearly demonstrated for over a century that wealth is generated through less restrictive trade practices and interdependent economies. The European Collapse that has kept this nation huddled in terror for so long was an aberration of runaway greed and fiscal lunacy. We can learn from history; we can do better. The Valkyries benefit most from fearmongering and demonstrate only that they are indeed appropriately named as choosers of the slain."

Lord Herbert sat to a commotion of "Shame!" bellowed from all sides, drowning out the few that dared to support him. He shook his head and rubbed at the burgeoning tension behind his eyes.

Without waiting for the Lord Speaker, Lady Baring shot to her feet, her face livid. "Choosers of the slain" was a pejorative term derived from the literal interpretation of the origin of Valkyrie, and the deliberately provocative use here in the House of Lords was, for Lady Baring, unforgivable.

"Austerity and fiscal restraint have kept the realm and its subjects from the carnage that ravaged the continent and left Europeans in rotting fly-swarmed piles in the bloody streets! The aberrant greed and fiscal lunacy the Lord Caernarfon so blithely references was the result of socialist policies," she invested the word heavily with poisonous vitriol, "that exposed Europe to economic and political terrorism! That ushered in the bloody Collapse in the first place! Conservative policies allowed this realm to not just survive, but to recover and flourish! The Lord Caernarfon would do well to remember that!"

Another explosion of support echoed from the rafters. The debate over the foreign policies of the United Kingdom of Northern Europe raged on.

The DMZ between China and Southeast Asia was once that was a bit tense, but nothing in comparison to Korea. On the border there lay building for the 2 nations to negotiate terms, and in the buildings there was a line which neither crossed.

The only real voice of dissent is from France, where a vocal minority are decidedly against bringing Ireland into the realm. French popular movements have, however, been calling for the inclusion of Monaco. Since the spectacular demise of House Grimaldi just over a decade ago, Monaco has been functioning under an ad hoc government. Those officials have extended a formal invitation to the UK; while the Praetor Extraterritorialis has sent a delegation to Monte Carlo, no word as yet has reached the correspondent for the BBC World Service there.

"The European Space Agency waits in breathless anticipation as their second moon lander approaches the Earth's satellite, this time scheduled to touch down in the Mare Nubium. Prince Jorge: Well, we all know that Iberia is the most tolerant of all the nations of the World for LGBT members, but I would most likely push for more tolerances like pushing for more knowledge on the other sexuality and such. I would probably also try and push for us to possibly get more land in Africa, althught that is probably at the bottom of my list. Then I would most likely try and make more of the oil we found in The Sahara usable, even through it is somewhat small amount. Oh and then the science, I've loved science ever since I can remember. I would love to see Iberia, under my reign become the most scientific nation in the world. I would also focus on making are nation much more secular.

Time flied by, each hour ticking by constantly, some found it amazing that despite gaining forceful independence from the British and dissolving all ties with the father nation, the clock tower still heavily resembled Big Ben. Night fall had arrive, marking new plans to be constructed. Quebecois riots were to be expected, however negotiations had been successful during the past week, expectations of a announcement of a referendum were high, hoping to maintain Canadian independence and neutrality, as well as foreign opinion through "making the right choice". Hundreds of people began to step forward within the area, most of them past or present protesters for Quebec, others were police in case anything went wrong. Unlike the situation in Quebec City, Ottawa-Police-Qubecois relations were at all time high thanks to common interest.

The fate of unity was held by a thread.

Outside of internal issues, trade continued to excel in major ports such as Vancouver, whom had been the hotspot for Pacific North American trade, with increased environmentally friendly factories within British Columbia and Ontario, this benefited East and West trade nodes, as a effort to meet demands. The Canadian foreign policy, is continuing to silence itself, concerning it's neutrality, and not wanting to be involved in any conflict.

We are the Balkans Federation. We are a group of Republics which co-operate with each other. The Balkans Federation seeks peace with our allies and annihilation to our enemies. We want to clear out, that we ally ourselves to the Western World, because of the long history, alliances, their acceptance of our ethnicities in their countries and the religion. We are aware that there are separatist groups within our borders, that seek terror and chaos to our country. We make sure that we are prepared and these terrorists will be caught or killed within months. We seek trade with anyone who wants to trade with us and our Federation doesn't let political differences block trades with not-so-friendly nations.

THE SR-73 ORBITAL SPY PLANE

The spy plane, one of the few Orbital plane sin the Columbian military, glided gently through space spying upon England, checking on the movements of her enemies military. As it neared its target, the largest British military base, it activate it's thermal cam and began checking over the area and inspecting the British base.

Lieutenant Ned Trembley stood out on the commissary green, looking straight up and waving. He had been there all day, just staring up and waving. It was a clear day, a rare bit of sunshine in April.

In one of the many offices with windows onto the green, Captain Henry Uxbridge watched Lieutenant Trembley with a quizzical expression. To his superior officer behind the desk, he asked, "Has he been at that long?"

Major David Ferguson glanced up from his paper, squinting his eyes and adjusting the ocular implants that corrected his nearsightedness. He cast his gaze out the window at the lieutenant, who continued to stare into the sky and wave. "Mm...yes. I daresay he has." Ferguson grunted a brief chuckle. "Since '66, if I'm not mistaken."

Uxbridge goggled at the major. "You're joking! That man has been doing...that...for the past four years?"

Returning his focus to his paper, Ferguson remarked, "He has. In fact, it's his one job."

Uxbridge's eyebrows furrowed, trying to decide if the major was having him on. Ferguson noticed and smiled. "But...why?" asked Uxbridge.

Major Ferguson set his paper down and looked out to the seemingly lunatic officer again. He sighed, as if saying there but for the grace of God go I. "It's quite simple, really: Warminster is Greater Britain's largest military installation. The defence ministry knows perfectly well that all of our enemies - and most likely our friends - will be lobbing spycraft over our heads to take a peek.

"Tell me captain, if you were an intelligence analyst examining covertly obtained images of a foreign base, and you found an image of some yob staring up at your cams and waving, wouldn't you find that just a wee bit unsettling?"

Uxbridge digested that for a moment. "Yes, sir. I suppose I would, at that."

Settling back to his paper, Ferguson said, "There you are, Captain. We can't stop all the spy planes from peeking. But we can bloody well give them something to peek at."

The spy plane pilot shook his head, the British had been doing that since the UPC had invented orbital spy planes. He snapped several more snapshots, using the thermal and X-Ray camera to scan over the entire compound. After a few more snapshots he swooped away, gliding gently along the edge of the atmosphere.

GODS THUNDER TESTING LAUNCH

Finally, the UPC's focus in space weapons had payed off. They had completed their Kinetic weapon, the Gods Thunder kinetic weapons platform. Today they would test it upon a decommissioned aircraft carrier. At 7:00pm Central standard time, the UPC launched a Kinetic Weapon. The tungsten missile burst through the atmosphere at speeds reaching Mach ten, the tungsten missile reaching the carrier barely a minute later, the ship practically imploding from the force. But a major worry was made over Tsunamis caused by the sheer force the weapon exerted. This test was aimed at the main rivals of the UPC, Russia, and England.

Moldovan-Ukranian border

Moldova wasn't part of the Federation but the Federation and the Moldovian counterparts, signed the
CSP(Co-operation & Strategic Pact), which allows the Balkans Defence Force to help and move freely inside the Moldovan territory.

It was a sunny day and as always, the military aides from the Balkans were training the underfunded, poorly trained Moldovian army. 40 km away, the border with the Russia's Republic of Ukraine, stood tall and mildly fortified. The border has seen some incidents in the past, the worst one when 10 Moldovian soldiers and 7 Russians were left dead after a 27 hours of gunfight.
A Romanian border guard, part of CSP agreement, was looking through his digital binoculars, scanning the border. Something caught his eye. He was shocked. At least 100 hover tanks were making their way to the border. The soldier promptly punched the alarm button.

In 15 minutes, 4000 Moldovian and Balkan soldiers deployed to the border. The Commander of the garrison took his radio that was connected to a PR system. He spoke in Russian:

"Rossiyskiye soldaty. Vy proshli neytral'noy oblasti. Otstupleniye ot posledstviy ploshchad' ili litsa"

The tanks stopped. No response from the tanks. They just stood there. It was nerves contest. Both sides waited for the other one to act.
After 5 hours of nuclear chess, the garrison's commander ordered Special Team Alpha, a group of heavily augmented soldiers, to be present. The Team were deployed and advanced towards the tanks.
They joined the "staring" contest. Tensions were rising, still no word from the Russian counterparts, the commander took the radio and said:
"Posledniy shans, ne delayut mne nachat' mirovuyu voynu."...

As Isabella wrote this message up and sent it she was wondering if the UK was willing to give Gibraltar to Iberia. After all the commonwealth was set up for a reason. But then again Spain never tried that hard to get the land back peacefully. And then there parliament might have to vote on the issue in which several of there members might vote not to give back the land. Most likely the members that are part of the British Nationalist Party all the others could be willing to give it up or not. To Iberia, The UK's parliament was confusing. The one in Iberia was small and only consisted of a few members. The UK's had several members for each country that used to exist inside it's borders.
