Historical Statistical Reference Resource

Postby Alleniana » Tue Sep 23, 2014 3:31 am

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, but I've no idea whether it goes in A&F, General or P2TM, and I figured I'd pick the evil I know; it might get gravedug, and General isn't conducive to that IIRC

Historical Statistical Reference Resource

This is a thread for reference on historical statistics, as well as discussion of it; populations, GDP, demographics, etc. both hypothetical situations and real ones. I will aim to compile all the information that can be offered, as well as the ideas and thoughts that need to be taken into account from debates. Essentially, the hope is that the thread can become a convenient point of reference for those who need to find historical statistical information for the RPs they're working with.

To clarify, discussion of "what if" situations is perfectly fine, as long as its within the rough bounds of these statistics; even if you need information on some future populations, demographics or GDP, that's fine here.

I assume you're going to expand on this as more time comes available to you.

Indeed. I'm hoping that people more skilled at this stuff than I, especially for later periods or more abstract situations, will pop up though.

Ireland is workable by using British isles figures and subtracting GB (which you give you the impression that Ireland's population is smaller than the error margin, which is somewhat informative), and those others will probably come in time.

:p
I suspect that it's only because the only other native-populated areas are those Mississippi/Mexico border civilisations, and the tribes along the east; of which only the Mississippi hill-thingy builders were of urban significance, really.

I'll probably be working on antiquity-Renaissance sort of era Europe first, since it's the era I'm most familiar with (as well as possibly among the most useful), but if you guys could post good sources for any sort of demographic stuff, it'd be much appreciated.

Thanks! It's been a while since I've gone looking for historical GDP data, so that should be a good place to restart the research-engine.
