Spanish In Your Nation

Postby Nueva Uruguay » Thu Aug 28, 2014 2:37 pm

-Does Spanish have official or co-official status in your nation?
-Is Spanish considered important in your nation?
-What percent of your people speak Spanish?
-How popular is Spanish as a learned foreign language?

We consider Spanish very important, because it is our official language. In addition, all of our allies and trading partners are Spanish-speaking nations. Nearly all of our population understands the language, because it is taught in every school grade..

Spanish is not an official or co-official language in Cyllea.
Spanish is only considered important if you're going into foreign politics or business.
About 8% of Cylleans speak Spanish, almost all of those being second language learners.
Spanish is one of the more popular foreign languages to learn, alongside Arabic, French, Swahili and English.

1. It's not our OFFICIAL language (English) or our co-official language (French), but we do have a large minority of native Spanish Speakers.
2. It's there.
3.
a)Native language, about 7%
b) Total, about 20% are fluent in it.
4. About 35-45% of students take Spanish in school (obviously fluctuating with the years), but very few of them actually learn anything. As a whole, both in school and out, about 13% of our people who do not speak the language as their native tongue are fluent. About 25% at least take it up. So pretty popular, I'm assuming.

Isla Gazebó does not have an official language, but Spanish is the de facto official language, and it is the sole language used by the government and for education.

The Republic of Isla Gazebó is a small island nation with an area of 92 212 km2. It became independent in 1828, and is today a free, democratic, progressive and peaceful nation. Isla Gazebó has a very high human development index, free health care and a minimal military. We are not communist, dammit!

Akin to how Latin evolved into Romance in Europe, Latin evolved into two separate languages here in Themiclesia, though itself is still spoken by a significant minority. One of them, Dyoin, is syntactically and phonologically similar to Spanish, though the deterioration of Latin grammar is not as great as it has been in the genisis of the Spanish language.

Moder Spanish is also spoken by a minority in many major cities, particularly on the sea-facing side of Themiclesia.

Spanish is not a common language in Insaeldor and is dwarfed in popularity by English and German as second languages. About 2.7% of the total population can speak Spanish at some capacity.

- No.
- To a certain extent. There are a few Spanish-speaking nations we trade with, or otherwise interact with. There are very few Spaniards living in Olwe, though.
- Fluently? Around 15%, including the diplomats, intelligence operatives, etc. who have learned it for work. Not so fluently? Pretty much everybody knows 5 to 20 words of Spanish. The Emperor is known to be fluent in Spanish, among several other languages.
- It's not the most popular, but it's definitely a frequently taken option.

No, the number of people who speak it is very low.

-What percent of your people speak Spanish?
An estimated 0.037%

-How popular is Spanish as a learned foreign language?
Not very popular, however, there are small villages in the South with Spanish names.

-Does Spanish have official or co-official status in your nation?
No. While Hispanics have historically made up a sizable amount of the population of Joplinia-Lambscott (and later, Frenequesta), most of their ancestors spoke English, having come from the United States where they were essentially forced to learn it.
-Is Spanish considered important in your nation?
No. Few Frenequestans speak Spanish because of the history above.
-What percent of your people speak Spanish?
About .5% are thought to be able to speak it.
-How popular is Spanish as a learned foreign language?
Of languages that aren't official or recognized (that is, English, German, Mandarin Chinese, or Equestrian), it greatly trails other languages, such as Japanese, French, Italian, and even Russian (the latter three primarily learned due to Frenequesta's opera culture).

-About 1-2%.
-Not very popular. Tyrasian and Suebian, which are more like dialects of each other, account for nearly 100% of all speakers, and though 90% of the population speaks a foreign language, most opt for Esperanto, English, French, Japanese and Dutch, though not necessarily in that order.

  1. The Spanish language has no official status in the United Provinces of New Korongo.
  2. Not really, only a small percentage of the population speaks Spanish regularly. Most public interactions are conducted in Korongolese or English.
  3. Around 8% of the population can speak Spanish fluently, and a much smaller percentage use it as a first language.
  4. It is somewhat popular but fewer people choose to learn it when compared to Indonesian, Malay, Mandarin, and Japanese.
