World Lacrosse Championship XIXI
The Sarian & Vintomter

Out of Character | Guide to Sports Roleplaying | Winning Bid | Rankings | Trigrammes

Welcome to the 19th edition of the World Lacrosse Championships, to be held in The Sarian and Vintomter. Teams will be split between the two nations, both with their own rich (and somewhat entwined) history and culture.

40 teams shall make their way to the two nations, each hoping to come away with the trophy that makes them world beaters.

Teams shall be split into eight groups of five, with the top two sides from each group progressing to the second round, where a simple round robin leaves just four games between them and the premier prize in worldwide Lacrosse.

This is the everything thread for the tournament, where signed up nations may post their rosters and roleplays for the tournament. Scores will also be posted here. Nations should post at least a roster by courtesy, which should contain a RP permissions box. Please note, there are NO style mods for Lacrosse.

Games involving The Sarian and/or Vintomter after the group stage will be 3rd Party Scorinated.

Example RP permissions box.

The Federated Isles of The Sarian, The Sarian Federation or simply The Sarian is an archipelago located in Esportiva. The principal islands are about 300 miles (500 km) east of Infore Major. The archipelago, which has an area of 47,000 square miles (122,000 km²), comprises Isle Saria, Isle Regis, Isle Kensingtea, Isle Oakhurst and many other smaller Islands. Each Island contains it's own unicameral legislative body, with the countries national assembly taking responsibility for its defence, finance and foreign affairs. The islands' capital and largest city is Chippenham on Isle Saria.

The population, estimated at 932,000,000 in 2142, primarily consists of native Sarian, although other nationalities include Yttribians, Draconians and Lojish. The predominant and official language is Sarian English. Other official languages are Spanish, Norwegian, Latvian and Lojish.

The islands lie on the boundary of the subarctic and temperate maritime climate zones with both major islands having mountain ranges reaching to 46,000 feet (14,000 m). The islands are home to large bird populations, although many no longer breed on the main islands because of the effects of introduced species. Major economic activities include fashion, oil exploration , tourism, and sheep farming with an emphasis on high-quality wool exports.

History of The Sarian

The history of The Sarian is split into nine different and distinct periods.

Pre-839

Before the union of The Sarian, almost every Island was an independent Kingdom. The islands were split into two distinct groups based on the race that lived there, dating from the Celtic period - The Saria in the western isles of the archipelago and The Regis in the eastern isles of the archipelago. Men of the tribe Saria were distinctive for fair skin, blue or grey eyes and light hair; while Tribe Regis was known for it's tanned skin, brown or hazel eyes and dark hair. A third, minority group was the Tribe Lojal, or Lojish who by 827 were still not a Kingdom, merely a community of Lojish with tribal leaders, Tribe Lojal were known for their dark skin and dark eyes.

Almost simultaneously in 827, The Kingdom of Chippenham and The Kingdom of Regis (Not to be confused with the tribe of the same name) began conquering the smaller kingdoms that shared the same ethnic group as them. For sevn years the wars raged on, with two distinct empires emerging - The Kingdom of The Sarian and The Kingdom of The Regis, along with a few smaller kingdoms who had managed to retain independence - The Kingdom of Oakhurst, The Kingdom of Kenstel (Now known as Isle Kensingtea), The Kingdom of Lessay (Know known as Isle Dehaye), The Kingdom of Lesser Salvador (Now Isle Henrikson), The Kingdom of Gunn (Now known as Isle Sandison) and The Kingdom of Ro'an (Now known as Isle Ackland).

Realising the number of Kingdoms who were resistant to his forces, King Peter the Cruel of Isle Saria began to marry off his relatives to the royal families of the Kingdoms, and murdering all but his relatives, and their new spouses - in order to take the thrones, bringing them into the empire. Three times this occurred within a short period (the difficulty of communication between islands, as well as the rivalry between the kingdoms ensuring that no-one heard of the other weddings), and the Kingdoms of Less Salvador, Kenstel and Gunn all became parts of the empire.

The Kingdom of The Regis sought a more peaceful approach to conquering the remaining islands, offering coin and autonomy to the "petty royals" in return for their Kingdoms becoming part of the empire.

By 839, all Islands that are currently part of the Federation,as well as Lojal, were either in the Empire of The Sarian or the Greater Kingdom of The Regis. (Except the Isle of Tench, but that came much later).

Empire of The Sarian and Greater Kingdom of The Regis

With the increase of vassals to the throne of the Empire of The Sarian, the few rebellions that protested rule from Chippenham were quickly dealt with in an extreme manor, earing King Peter of The Sarian the cruel nickname.

While in Regis, autonomy was higher, the old royals of each Kingdom being King in all but name, which kept the indigenous population of each island in the empire happy.

For a while the two Empires looked likely to clash on the field of battle, in order to conquer each others lands, to form "the greatest empire known to man", at this point little to nothing was known about any other kingdoms.

It has been confirmed by centuries old archives that King Peter the Cruel did intend to invade The Greater Kingdom of The Regis, had he not been killed in a freak accident involving a ram, while on visit to the former Kingdom of Falkland.

His successor was his third eldest son, King Rowan the Brave, and while there is no proof that he intended to invade The Regis, it is noted that vassal levies were raised and ship were hastily constructed.

However, after three decades of tension and wars that turned out to be minor skirmishes, the two Empires were in peace, and the eldest son - though not always heir - of the now King, King Alan of The Sarian and the eldest daughter (And only legitimate child) of the Regis King, King Johannes the Drunkard were wed in 909.

Much like in 827, where the two events were unrelated but almost simultaneous, King Alan of The Sarian and King Johannes of The Regis passed away within a month of each other, leaving a union of crowns through marriage of King Oliver of The Sarian and Queen Mathilde of The Regis. Within four years, the two Empires were declared one Kingdom; The Kingdom of The Sarian and The Regis.

Kingdom of The Sarian and The Regis

Seen as the start of a new kingdom by many at the time, this is when current "King numbers" begin in The Sarian, for example - when King Peter I took the throne in 993, he was declared King Peter, the first of his name. Rather than, King Peter the forth, if the numbering of kings had been continued.

The Kingdom was in relative peace through most of the era, until members of the Tribe Saria began settling in land that was traditionally Tribe Regis area, prompting the 'Last Tribal War', which Tribe Lojish also participated in, in a hope to kick Tribe Saria - and indeed the Kingdom - off Lojish lands that had been lost in 831.

The war lasted for eight years at a discontinuous level. which ended up with a Sarian win, and the removal of all Regis aristocrats, laws and privileges, including in the name of the country. Waving in The Royal Isles of The Sarian.

The Royal Isles of The Sarian

The Royal Isles is the longest period in Sarian history, lasting from 1098, when The Sarian won the Last Tribal War till 2109, when the monarchy fell to communist forces.

Throughout the period was a modernization of The Sarian, the Plebeian Assembly was established in 1412, and the position of Prime Minister in 1711, royal houses came and went with little fuss; it is widely considered the "golden period".

In the wider period, there is considered to be many smaller periods - the most notable and revered being of The House Tench which ruled from 2019- with King William III till it's fall in 2109 with King Albert IX. The period is also when Isle Tench became part of

The period eventually ended however, when the Socialist Peoples Workers Party won an absolute majority in the 2108 election, removing the monarchy under the failing King Albert IX..

The Sarian Socialist Republic

While the Royal Isles period is known as the golden period, TSSR is known as the darkest days. Upon removal of the monarchy, and appointing of The Sarians first ever president, Erik Harlbeur, almost all human and political rights were removed from The Sarian.

Where previously The Sarian lived under an uncodified constitution, The Socialist Peoples Workers Party were quick to install a constitution ordering a blanket ban on all non-party organizations - including sports teams and religious congregations.

A plebiscite overthrew the Socialist republic, and the monarchy was restored in 2122.

Restoration of The Royal Isles

For many years, The Sarian was run like nothing had happened, governments came and went until in 2140 - when an arrest of a Free Republican football player lead to a war declaration of FFR (Which came to nothing), and a parliamentary coupe deposing Prime Minister, Meredith Ellis. The new government followed the same pattern of the TSSR a couple of decades earlier, and when the Monarch attempted to veto the National Assembly's emergency laws, he was shot dead and the First Sarian Republic was declared.

First Sarian Republic

Although a Republic in name, elections were never held and the Prime Minister declared himself President-for-Life, almost the moment the republic was declared, there was a rebel force attempting to restore the monarchy a second time, headed by Michael Bryan.

After many years of bitter fighting, the monarchy and democracy was restored.

Second Restoration of The Royal Isles

The Royal Isles were once again restored, and within a year Lojal gained democratic independence. Referendums in other islands voted to stay in The Sarian, though allegations of fixing have been made.

The second restoration, however, only lasted for four years before Fredrik Elwing's Florican Party won a majority - through by-elections - in the new Legislative Assembly and declared the Florican Federation.

Federated Isles of The Sarian

The Federated Isles of The Sarian were declared, and quickly became allies with The Inevitable Syndicate, Yttribia, Farfadillis and Felix - using the threat of war from all of these countries to stop international assistance for Lojal when The Sarian invaded in early 2 AF.

Despite minor resistance movements, the Federated Isles still remain in The Sarian today.

Overview

Vintomter, officially the Kingdom of Vintomter, is a landlocked mountainous country and a microstate in Atlantian Oceania, its area is just over 160 square kilometres (62 square miles), and it has an estimated population of 35,000. Its capital is Isbergern. Vintomter is a unitary constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary system of government, wherein the King of Vintomter is the head of state and the Prime Minister is the head of government. Power is separated among the legislative, executive and judicial branches of government, as defined by the Vintomter Convention on Governance, which serves as the country's supreme legal document.

Vintomter is divided into 11 Flykers, each Flyker is administered through a directly elected assemblies who elect the County Governor. Additionally, the King and government are represented in every county by a fylkesmann, who effectively acts as a Governor. As such, the Government is directly represented at a local level through the County Governors' offices.

Much of its terrain is mountainous, making it a winter sports destination. Many cultivated fields and small farms characterize its landscape. The country has a strong financial sector located in the capital, Isbergern, and has been identified as a tax haven.

History

The recorded history of Vintomter begins with the acquisition of Vintoborg (today Vintomter Castle); around this fort, a town gradually developed, which became the centre of a state of great strategic value. In the 14th and early 15th centuries, three members of the House of Vintomter reigned as Sarian Kings. In 1437, the House of Vintomter suffered a succession crisis, precipitated by the lack of a male heir to assume the throne, which led to the territories being sold by Duchess Elisabeth to Grand Duke Jean-Pierre of House Dehaye .

In the following centuries, Vintomter's fortress was steadily enlarged and strengthened by its successive occupants, the Dehayes, Hayeburgs and the Migrones. After the defeat of Jean Migrone in 1815, Luxembourg was disputed between the Dehayes and the Hayeburgs. Eventually, The Kingdom of The Sarian intervened, puting it's own House Henrikson of the throne of Vintomter, though keeping it as a separate Kingdom.

The Revolution of 1830–1839 reduced Vintomter's territory by more than half, the predominantly franco northern part of the country being lost, and although House Migrone forces made initial gains, House Henrikson held onto power.

In 1979, following the death of King Albert of House Henrikson, a constitutional crisis occurred. According to Sarian law, females may inherit the throne in the absence of a male heir, while in Vintomter, only males may inherit the throne. Thus removing Queen Priscilla of The Sarian from the line of succession. Angered by the Stortings refusal to pass a bill stating his mother as Queen, the uncrowned King Kevan abdicated from the throne, Prince Alan also refused to take the throne, leaving no direct successors to the throne.

What followed was sixteen days of no monarchy, where historians traced the next in line to the Vintomter throne, going back to House Dehaye. Prince Victor Dehaye was found to be the heir, who was ironically married to Princess Pauline of The Sarian, daughter of the 'Queen that never was'.

It wasn't until 2138, Vintomter repealed it's male only succession laws, given that there was no male heirs after the current King, Olav.

Staying in Vintomter

There is one international airport in Vintomter, which has been expanded in anticipation of the event, a range of hotels, resorts and lodges can be found throughout Vintomter, including the Winter Maiden, of the Maiden Group, which is the sole five star hotel in the country.

Given the year round snow, transport in Vintomter is dangerous for non-natives, and tracks must be worn at all times. Bus services, and a monorail run around the capital city, Isbergern, which most people use on a day to day basis; the monorail costs just a few Vinto Imperias.

The major language spoken in Vintomter is Norwegian, although English and French is becoming more common. There are no major laws to watch out for in Vintomter, although the traditionally conservative nation can be accused of sexism and homophobia at times.

NS is just a state of mind, time has no boundary nor does our sanity.

Please ignore my senseless ramblings, I'm getting old.

The Serbian Empire Lacrosse Dossier

Serbian Empire All Time Record (27-5-0)
Appearances: 4
Best Finish: 1st, WLC 14

The Roster is missing several notable stars including Mirela Kasun, Tihana Zupan, and Erika Vrana who are at the Olympiad representing the women's team in the demonstration sports. Secondly, the team missed WLC 18 due to paperwork issues getting a flight out thus dropping from 2nd to 10th in the rankings. Still the team is mostly intact and dangerous. The wings are switched in and out and are technically midfielders who will retreat back and forth depending on possession to be either offensive or defensive in nature.

Starting Lineup

Goalkeeper: Ales Kopitar
Low Defense: Nemanja Mladenovic, Stevan Milic, Vlad Stojanovic
Defensive Wings: Dragan Marusic, Andrej Radisich (occasionally both will be on the field as midfield centers during situations with large leads)
Center: Besnik Hoxha
Attack Wings: Nemanja Dragic, Danilo Goranovic (occasionally both will be on the field one in offensive forward and the other in center when behind in score)
Low Attack: Nikola Vukovic, Patrik Filipovic

Backups
Goalkeeper: Dusan Milavic
Low Defense: Gavrilo Procepic, Tomas Novak
Defensive Wings: Zoran Petrovic
Center: Anze Broz
Attack Wings: Marijan Kajic, Ahmed Domi
Low Attack: Filip Kovac, Bozidar Kovac

OOC Note: Electrum time follows RL time, so it's only a few months later after the last WLC, hence the same roster

National Lacrosse Team of Electrum
National Team for WLC19

Background
Lacrosse is a burgeoning sport in Electrum. It is known for it's similarity to Electrum's favourite football code: Australian Rules in that players tackle each other for control of the ball. After the WLC18 was announced, a team from Centralis University, the Centralis Eagles, was sent as the representative of Electrum. Most of the players are around 20-22 years old, but there are a few professors and older-aged students on the team as well. The team's focus is teamwork, unity and most of all the spreading of lacrosse spirit all of the country. They have recently hired a coach, Sam Galloway, a rugby and hockey expert from Centralis University to offer advice for the team.

Team Colours: Gold and Brown

Schedule:
MD1: vs Korva
MD2: vs North Britonisea
MD3: vs Vintomter
MD4: vs The Serbian Empire
MD5: Bye

Roster
The team's style is +3. There is particular focus on midfield and gaining possession/turnover of the ball as much as possible. This disrupts the rhythm of the opponent and makes it easier for the Electrum team to break through defenses and score goals. They have been granted a grant from the Department of Sports to travel to Vintomter for the WLC after their break out performance in the last tournament, reaching the round of 16. Here, they will try and replicate that, and hopefully go deeper into the finals. After a tough group performance where Electrum got through by their skin of their teeth, they lost thoroughly to Unolia in the R16. This time, they are looking to smash their group.

Attackers
2. Jason Zhong (vc) Age: 20
4. Mark Kane Age: 19
5. Jeff Martínez Age: 28

Midfielders
6. Dr. Steven Farmer Age: 35
7. Corey White Age: 18
1. Louis Stephens (c) Age: 21

Defenders
3. Professor Samantha Parks Age: 32
8. Eileen Mac Age: 23
9. Joshua Guo Age: 19

Goalie
10. Max Paneer

RP Permissions: Anything bizarre or unrealistic is OK by me, but no injuries or red-cards or anything that makes one of my members miss a game. There is only a team of ten here.

My RP line for the WLC will cover the events of the Darvalian-Rossanese war, which devastated Darvale, but saw the Darvalians emerge victorious - in the eyes of one of the Darvalian soldiers. Also, I will not be able to RP due to RL issues after August 19th.

Rossana - The Rise and Fall of A Nation
Part I - The Last Screw In The Coffin

It all just seemed like another, ordinary winter day in Fairbanks, the capital of Darvale. Soft, glistening, white snowflakes gently making down to the busy streets bustling with cars driving around the numerous glass skyscrapers of downtown Fairbanks, and mildly overdressed people scurrying around on the sidewalks of the wide avenues and boulevards of the city. One of these people was Noah Harris. Harris was just another Darvalian man, with no outstanding features, a valet at The Excelsior, a high-class hotel in downtown Fairbanks.

It was Harris' day off, and he was heading back on foot to his apartment, which was located only a kilometer out of the downtown area. The 22 year old entered his mildly spacious 2nd floor flat, took a quick shower, and lazily sat down on his living room armchair and flicked on his television set. Harris immediately regretted it. He grimaced in a mixture of fright and disappointment as he listened to the breaking news.

"...and yes John, plenty of Darvalian and Rossanese sources are all verifying it - Darvale and Rossana are now officially at war. Pretty much all of the sources are also saying that the trigger for the war declaration was Darvalian king George IV refusing to give the Rossanese government an unverified amount of money for a military expansion. Rossana has already made a move in this war - Astaria (OOC - the largest city of Darvale), was subject to a series of bomb raids earlier today - Rossanese authorities are confirming that they were the perpetrators of the attack that killed over a hundred Darvalian citizens."

Harris' numb fingers switched off the TV. The man knew what he had to do. He exited his apartment, and entered a taxi, going back to the Fairbanks downtown area. Harris paid the driver, and entered an army recruitment office. An hour later, he exited the same office, with an envelope in his hand.

THE DEPARTMENT OF THE MILITARY - OFFICIAL MESSAGE

Mr. Noah James Harris,

The Darvalian Department of the Military is honored to announce that your application for the army entry course has been officially accepted. The necessary transport will be provided for you to arrive at Fort Crompton, where you will be taking your course for the next week. If you pass the course, you will be accepted into the army, and will be put into the 231st All Infantry Unit.

Harris took another taxi back to his apartment and packed his bags. He felt a lump in his throat as he tucked himself into his bed that night, knowing that there was a good chance it would be the last time he would do so. The next morning, Harris woke up to the sound of his alarm, and said goodbye to his apartment with a heavy heart. He walked down to the street sidewalk, and, sure enough a black SUV was waiting for him. Harris knocked on the window of the driver seat. The window slowly slid down. "Identification?", the driver asked. "Harris. Noah James Harris.", the soon-to-be soldier replied. the back door opened, and a soldier, dressed in a full army costume, said 2 words. "Hop in."

PREDICTIONS - WORLD LACROSSE CHAMPIONSHIPS 19

As Jeckland prepares to compete in World Lacrosse Championships 19, we predict how the tournament will pan out. With a record breaking 40 nations, it's bound to be a cracker, and you can watch it all on Jeckland Sports.

The Group Stage
This time around, the 40 teams have been split into eight groups of five. A single round robin group stage will be played, after which the top two teams will progress to the Round of 16

Group A
The Sarian
Britonisea
Estenia
Abanhfleft
Star United States

The co-hosts recieve an easy group draw on their own turf, with Britonisea and Estenia both lowly ranked within their pots. This will give hope to the unranked teams, Abanhfleft and Star United States. It is difficult to tell how well these rookie sides will do, however Star United States look like a side capable of upsetting the apple cart. Abanhfleft look weak and will finish last. The Sarian will walk this group, with Star United States squeezing into second, with Britionisea and Estenia in third and fourth respectively.

Group B
Unolia
Costa de Ouro
Indo-Pasif Archipelago
Camerania
Jecatria

Reigning champions and World #1 Unolia are handed a straightforward draw. Costa De Ouro barely made the second pot, whilst Indo-Pasif Archipelago are effectively unranked. Jecatria look a decent team, the same can not be said of Camerania. Unolia will obviously win this group, the interesting battle is for second. Costa De Ouro will pip Jecatria to the post but Jecatria will console themselves with third. Indo-Pasif Archipelago will get fourth, with Camerania coming bottom.

Group C

Estope
Anditia
The Kytler Peninsulae
Globus
Mizuyuki

A group with three unranked teams looks a weak one on the face of it, but scratch beneath the surface and you see some strong teams here. The Kytler Penninsulae look a solid outfit, and Globus and Mizuyuki both look promising. The two ranked teams are Estope, ranked fourth, and edition 18 hosts Anditia ranked 17th. Estope should be able to muscle their way through as group leaders, and despite the promise of the teams below, Anditia will finish second. The Kytler Pennisulae will sit behind them in third, with Mizuyuki edging out Globus for fourth.

Group D
Cosumar
Patistan
San Jose Guayabal
Taeshan
United Eastedge

Group of Death! Cosumar are a very strong and proven side and will look to continue a strong tradition in this competition. Patistan are a force to be reckoned with owing to their #11 rank, with San Jose Guayabal the top third seed also looking dangerous. You would think in a group like this the unranked sides would have little hope, but think again. Although Taeshan aren't the best side in the world, United Eastedge could upset the odds. Cosumar will keep their cool and come top, with Patistan holding off the pressure from below the come second. United Eastedge will impress and come third, with San Jose Guayabal a disappointing fourth. Taeshan will come fifth.

Group E
Vintomter
The Serbian Empire
Electrum
Korva
North Britonisea

Onto the Vintometer side of the draw, and the fact the unranked co-hosts are top seeds makes for an exciting group. The home team will doubtless be looking to impress and look a good team. The Serbian Empire are a very dangerous team with a lot of history in this tournament, whilst Electrum look capable of making waves this time round. Korva and North Britonisea are both unranked and both look easily beatable. The Serbian Empire will win this group easily, with Electrum following on in second. Vintometer will use home advantage to get to third, with North Britonisea and Korva fourth and fifth respectively.

Group F
Jeckland
The Royal Kingdom of Quebec
Vettrera
Miley World
Free Swiss States

This is our group - and it looks tough. We are the top seeds though, but Quebec and Vettrera are both decent sides looking for an upset. The unranked teams both look good too, Miley World perhaps the more dangerous, but don't count out Free Swiss States. Despite the difficulty of this group of death, Jeckland will come out on top, followed by Quebec. Vettrera will just about hold off Miley World to come third, with Free Swiss States in fifth.

Group G
Darmen
Thatius
Darvale
The Land of The Powerful Clan of Qycch
Jachaelter

This group appears straighforward for the top two seeds, with 44 ranks separating second seed Thatius from third seed Darvale, and two harmless unranked teams down below. However, Darvale are a very strong team looking to cause an upset. Darmen are also very strong and have a high rank to back it up, the same can be said for Thatius. Darmen will win the group, with Thatius eking out a strong Darvale team for second. Jachaelter will overcome Qycch for fourth.

Group H
Nassau-Hessen
Paradystopia
Itanpavia
The State of Appalachia
Alkoul

Last time's surprise runners up will be pleased with this group, as their talented squad looks to progress. Long time participants Paradystopia also look good, with the three teams below looking weaker. Nassau-Hessen and Paradystopia will easily secure spots 1 and 2 respectively, with Itanpavia struggling to third. Appalachia will get fourth, with Alkoul bottom.

Round of 16

The Sarian vs. Costa De Ouro
This one is a straightforward pick. The hosts are better ranked and better equipped than a Costa De Ouro side coming from a weak group. The Sarian win.

Unolia vs. Star United States
This Unolia side isn't actually a brilliant team, some would say they were lucky to win last time out. Nevertheless they are always going to beat a rookie side. Unolia win.

Estope vs. Patistan
Patistan are a good team with great potential, but Estope are a little better, and that should show here. Estope win.

Cosumar vs. Anditia
Anditia are a good team, but do not have home advantage like last time. Cosumar are consistently excellent and will power through. Cosumar win.

The Serbian Empire vs. The Royal Kingdom of Quebec
The Serbian Empire aren't the force they used to be, but are still a strong team. Quebec are handy, but not quite good enough. The Serbian Empire win.

Jeckland vs. Electrum
Our Spuds are looking for a deep run this time round, and are good enough to do it. Electrum came from an easy group and are out of their depth here against Jeckland. Jeckland win.

Darmen vs. Paradystopia
This will be tight. Both sides are established names on the lacrosse scene, but Darmen appear slightly better and should edge through. Darmen win.

Nassau-Hessen vs. Thatius
Last time's finalists face a stern test in the form of Thatius, a decent team. But Nassau-Hessen can beat better sides than them, so should win. Nassau-Hessen win.

Quarter Finals

The Sarian vs. Unolia
This is a tough one to call. Unolia are the champions, but some would say their side has stagnated. A promising Sarian outfit may well nick this one with home advantage. The Sarian win

Estope vs. Consumar
Two teams both rated highly amongst expertsand with good previous records in this competition. Estope are a tough nut to crack, but the might of Cosumar should shine through. Cosumar win.

The Serbian Empire vs. Jeckland
This one's intriguing. The experience of The Serbian Empire goes up against the relative youth of Jeckland. Jeckland should have enough to handle this one. Jeckland win.

Darmen vs. Nassau-Hessen
Two sides close in rank and ability. Darmen are proven to be very good, but Nassau-Hessen showed the world what they are capable of last time and will come through. Nassau-Hessen win.

Semifinals
The Sarian vs. Cosumar
Hosts The Sarian and Cosumar make for a huge tie. Cosumar have the experience and brilliance, and playing in their own country won't save The Sarian. Cosumar win.

Jeckland vs. Nassau-Hessen
This is another very close one. Both sides make up for what they lack in exprience with raw talent. I'm going to back our Spuds on this one. Jeckland win.

FINAL - COSUMAR VS. JECKLAND
Now this is tough. Cosumar, favourites against the plucky underdogs Jeckland. I'm going out on a limb and saying we'll win. What do you mean I'm biased? You heathens, JECKLAND WILL WIN THE WORLD LACROSSE CHAMPIONSHIPS!!!

DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF ABANHFLEFT
NATIONAL LACROSSE TEAM

This will be Abanhfleft's first time participating in the World Lacrosse Championship. Due to a scheduling conflict, the men's national lacrosse team will not be representing the country, having gone on a continental tour in Antarctica to challenge the other national lacrosse sides. Because of this, the Fleftic Lacrosse Federation will be sending the women's national team to represent the Democratic Republic in this tournament. This women's team is different from the other women's lacrosse teams, because they are trained in men's lacrosse rules, the reasons why will be explained in the history spoiler below.

The history of lacrosse in Abanhfleft is both long and short, in that it has been in the country for a long time, but a concise summary of said history can be written down in just ten to fifteen sentences or maybe more. Lacross was introduced in Abanhfleft by vacationing Canadian college students and expatriates who missed playing the game. The first truly Fleftic lacrosse players came from association football and field hockey backgrounds, and these players played in seasonal lacrosse clubs to augment their salaries during their respective sports' offseasons. The first national lacrosse league in Abanhfleft was established in 1929, and was composed of 7 teams coming from the Capital Islands. The Fleftic national lacrosse league system adopted its current promotion-and-relegation format in 1951, with the National League (now called the Lacrosse Premier League) at the top of the pyramid. The Fleftic Lacrosse Federation (Flefteikor' Fidourhat'she ob Lakros or FFoL) was established in 1930 to manage the leagues, and to see to the creation of a national team. The Abanhfleft men's national lacrosse team played its first game in 1931, where they lost 1-0 to a team of Montreal college players.

1963 saw the first attempts to introduce women's lacrosse into Abanhfleft. Women's lacrosse had vastly different rules from men's lacrosse, and while these programs saw some success in the mid-sixties, Fleftic women decided that the rules of women's lacrosse were "too soft," and simply adopted the rules of men's lacrosse. When the women's national lacrosse team played its first games in 1969, they surprised many other teams with their extremely aggressive style of play, the likes of which were more usually seen in men's lacrosse games. This led to many incidents of broken legs, broken arms, broken ribs, broken jaws, and so on and so forth. Eventually the FFoL established another women's team, this one focusing on women's lacrosse rules. Teams playing Abanhfleft are well-advised to treat the women like men, because the girls will certainly treat their opponents like Fleftic men.

Head Coach: Luzviminda Lozima (65)
Lozima is the first ever head coach of the Abanhfleft women's national lacrosse team, a position which has been ironically dominated by men. A noted lacrosse player herself, Lozima definitely knows how the players think on the field and off it. This gives her an edge over many former managers, who were men and therefore had no experience playing women's style lacrosse. The players also have a deep respect of Lozima because of her fame and role in the old silverware-winning national side of old.

Assistant Coach - Tactics: Tim Blyther (39)
Blyther is an Australian who played lacrosse in Abanhfleft's Lacrosse Premier League for almost fifteen years, eventually retiring in 2009 with five championships under his belt. Blyther is also a fan of association football, and was the mastermind of adapting some of that's sports tactics into lacrosse, and this combination of lacrosse and football helped lead the Releinthi Fighting Sticks to three consecutive championships in the Lacrosse Premier League. Being the inventor and innovator of FootCrosse (the combination of football and lacrosse tactics), Blyther was invited by the FFoL to be both national teams' tactics coach, but this will be the first time that FootCrosse will be seen on the world stage, and how Abanhfleft will perform in this tournament will determine the viability of FootCrosse on the international lacrosse scene.

Assistant Coach - Training: Chan Lua (53)
A popular aerobics instructor back in the 1980s, Chan Lua was hired by the FFoL in 2012 for a yearly salary of 2 million new penenks, one of the largest yearly salaries ever in the federation. Lua's job will be to increase and enhance the players' fitness levels. Lua's hiring, which had been a controversial decision at the time, eventually paid off when both national teams' starting lineups lasted much longer on the field than their opponents. Observers keen to gauge this newcomer side will look to Lua's contributions to the effectiveness of the national side.

Menan Alrisheb (#10) - The star player of the Abanhfleft's women's lacrosse team. She definitely has the makings of a world lacrosse superstar, being in the prime of her playing career. Her talent was spotted at a very early age, being already courted by some of the country's top universities when she was still 11. She eventually went to Malhall State University, which has a critically acclaimed lacrosse varsity program and is incidentally near her hometown of Selid, in Myleikaf state. Alrisheb was then signed by the Bytuch Wyk Hermits (Ladies) at the age of 21. Alrisheb began representing Abanhfleft in 2005, when she was a reserve attacker for the U-18 side. She made her first team debut against Canada in 2009, and she immediately showed signs of her emergence as one of the best lacrosse players of her generations by scoring a goal and assisting in two more in a hard-fought 3-3 draw. She also made waves in the national sports scene when she announced that she was in a relationship with Ibrahim Ahmadinejad, right fielder of the Verbergerkinnh Cubs of the Abanhfleft Major League of Baseball and the men's national baseball team. She currently has 107 caps and 54 goals.

Fatima Alsambis (#9) - One of Fleftic sports' greatest success stories. Alsambis was diagnosed with a congenital defect which meant that she had little to no control over her excretory system, leading to her being stuck with diapers her whole life. Most people would have given up the rest of their lives at that, but not Fatima Alsambis. Despite her medical condition, Alsambis strived hard in athletics, and eventually became a skilled lacrosse player. One would think that playing sports, especially lacrosse, would be hard while wearing an adult diaper, but Alsambis made it work. She was signed by the Riuwiee Stateswomen in 2004, and she was called up to the national team soon after. She also shocked the Fleftic sporting world by declaring on national television her eventual love for diapers, along with the declaration that Fleftic football star Luke Edwards had proposed to her after almost 8 years of dating. She currently has 115 caps and 46 goals.

Cecilia Cuvimi (#8) - Cuvimi carrries on her shoulders the legacy of the Cuvimi sporting family, begun by her grandfather, Cecil Rhodes Cuvimi, Senior. She started playing for the Bendy Benny Benders (Ladies) in 2004, and was called up to the national team in 2007. Up to this day, she has been inconsistent in her playing style. Sometimes she shows the brilliance that evokes the run-and-gun style of the elder Cuvimis. Other times she plays like a seventeen-year-old reserve player forced up into the first team by injuries to the better players. Cecilia definitely has a lot to prove, but she will have to become consistent in her game first before people begin taking her seriously, and this international tournament may just be the perfect opportunity for growth. If she takes it. She currently has 96 caps and 40 goals.

Nickname: The Amazons
Colors: Green with yellow trim; yellow numbers and letters
Style: Abanhfleft is an attacking team. The legacy of football and hockey players dabbling in lacrosse in its early days in Abanhfleft has resulted in a playing style that emphasizes getting the ball up front for chances to score. This, however, leaves the defense a bit thin, as at least two midfielders join the attackers in forays up to the goal, leaving behind only the defenders and the keeper. The midfield makes up for this by rushing back to their positions as soon as the opponents have acquired the ball.
Important Announcement: Starting today, all national teams of all genders representing Abanhfleft in international tournaments will be performing a pregame war dance, similar to the haka of the New Zealand rugby union team. This dance will be called the towa' qwaraoti, with the lyrics modified to suit the sport being played.

San José Guayabal National Lacrosse Team

The Guayabalenses appears for the first time into this competition, due to the lack of leagues and an efficient system regarding leagues and organization, a team of home-less drunken vagabonds will take part into this cup, with no shame and no glory, their plan is to drink beers during the game and sleep in front of the rivals, when they score goals. Basically the risk of this team is the aggresivity, they can break a beer glass in your face, so be careful.

Style Mod: +5 (Or the maximum available) - Aggresivity is the best weapon, with our beers!

Nassau National Lacrosse Team

Color(s): Blue & Gold
Nickname(s): The Eagles, The Hessen
Demonym: Hessian, Nassauite
Stadium:
(Capacity = ~14,000)
Image

Let's Take A Trip Down Memory Lane

The Hessen finished up the last WLC just short of the prestigious title after making many upsets throughout the course of the tournament. Soon afterwards, the Nassau Lacrosse Institution (the governing body of both field and box lacrosse in Nassau) frantically made roster changes on the national team. The main stars such as Kibler, Reyes, and Bowling would obviously remain, but nearly everyone else was at risk. A few long months later, the final roster was complete, and so the Eagles are once again ready to give any team a run for their money.

...So, What's Ahead?

The NLI is trying to find a silver lining through the clouds by being able to participate in both the Summer Olympics and the WLC XIX. The likelihood of achieving this goal is probable, but not guaranteed (perhaps the Olympic Lacrosse events will be held just before the WLC finale). The Hessen were, for the first time in their history, put in the first pot, a good indication of progression. The Hessen drew into this group:

Group H
To be held in Vintomter

Nassau
Paradystopia
Itanpavia
Appalachia
Alkoul

There are a few familiar names in this group. The Paradystopians, who gave many of the opposing players nightmares in the previous year, are going to once again play the Eagles (much to the discontent of the team). Itanpavia is also a familiar name within the division. Group H also consists of some threatening debutants such as the State of Appalachia and Alkoul. This group will definitely be a challenge for Nassau, but it will nonetheless be quite an achievement if the Blue and Gold can manage to win this group.

Dear Lacrosse-thingy event organisers,

Please find enclosed with this letter the Paradystopi National Lacrosse Team.

They're the ones in the large crate which I very much hope this letter was attached to.

If you would be so kind as to ensure this crate is delivered to the appropriate venues and opened at the beginning of each match, we would be much obliged.

In the crate you should find approximately ten rabid gibbons. You see, we wanted to get rid of them but we'd grown too attached to the little buggers. So, we gave them some lacrosse stick-things and sent them off to your country so they can live out the rest of their days happily, but far away from us under the guise of being a lacrosse team. Sorry if this is of any inconvenience.

They can be a little aggressive at times so we sent you some tranquilliser darts and two rifles, you know, just in case.

They don't really have names. We just used to call them all 'scary monkey' at the sanctuary.

Oh yeah, I should've said earlier. They were all ex-biological test subjects which the Commune discarded upon us before they disappeared and they do harbour negative feelings towards humans and humanoids but you've got the rifles. You'll be fine.

Any problems, call us on 08-35-8759-6365-8463 which isn't a fake number I just made up, honest ...

Anyway, good luck and let us know how they do.

Yours sincerely
