To put it simply, the original NS was far superior to NS2 in every way imaginable. NS2 was nothing more than a scam to get the money of loyal NSers. Think about it. You had to pay to get some features that were FREE on the original NS such as customizing your nation type. You had to pay to get rid of the ads when a imageblocker works fine here. The only feature I liked was how it kept track of your economy, but even that was messed up most of time.

The whole thing would have been better if Max himself ran it instead of some greedy coders leeching off Max's creation. Now they're pushing towards another one of their rip-offs? No thank you.

I've been a loyal user since 2006 (I finally got around to posting on the forums) and I log on practically every day. I'll happily stay here on the original NS where the developers actually care about us and take the game as seriously as we do.

Uh, I would assume since NS was associated from the beginning with Jennifer Government that Max spoke with his lawyers and registered some sort of tm on the name? I don't know much of the legalese around things like this, but it seems a good slap in the mouth from Max's lawyers, in the form of a cease and desist letter, would see Jolt's whoremongering come to a stop where his interests are concerned...

Well, there's commerce, and then there's just bad management and crappy business strategy. For instance, screwing your IP owners repeatedly is Not a Good Idea and I imagine it is only a matter of time before SOMEBODY Jolt screws decides to hire some lawyers to screw them back hard.

I bet this'll cover up the gradual death of NS2 as the they close in frequently (and longer) until finally they chuck it in the waste bin.

Lol nice one.
Fair play to Max for putting up with all that crap from Jolt, the problem with NS2(in my view) was there was no community at all to it

Yeah, I paid the money. And actually I paid happily, thinking I had NS1 for free for so long, I felt Max Berry deserved my money. I did not know he was being Jolted.

The moment NS2 gave me the 'Worlds' option, I immediately stopped using it, as that was moronic - I didn't even get to the crowning moment of suck with the war methods and also paying for my own custom flag. So that was all of thirty seconds of my time.

NS? Five years on, still going strong. Free form RP based around loose semi-satirical simple issue mechanics = awesomesauce.

I concur. I cannot resist the temptation to say it all over again that NS2 was terrible, like those old black-and-white photocopiers machines of the early years, or even better, Microsoft BOB.

I don't know how Max Barry has put up with it for as long as NS2 has been released. I personally would have had their site shut down as soon as I found out all the BS they were going to give me.

I played Nation States 2 for a few days then quit when I saw how many ads there were and how you had to pay for pretty much everything with real cash... Sorry, I am willing to donate for other nations on CN twice a month, but I am not willing to pay for little stupid features on NS2 monthly...

Hopefully Max will take this time to take back NS2 for himself and actually make it himself or invite other people who are loyal to NS make it. (Hell, I would be willing to help out with a few scripts here and there..)

I have been playing NS for four or five years and am loving it. :)

I was never able to log into Sdaeriji on NS2. I was not able to log in with the same information there as I do for Sdaeriji Classic, and I was not able to create Sdaeriji there because the name was already taken. Confident that Sdaeriji is an uncommon enough name that I'd be the only one to use it, and confident that the option to reserve our NS1 nations in NS2 worked properly, I contacted the Destroyer of Worlds to ask for a resolution. They insisted that the log in information for Sdaeriji 2 was the same as it was for Sdaeriji Classic, despite my repeated efforts to get them to understand that it was not working. They never offered me any assistance except to tell me that I was wrong and that maybe I wasn't typing my password in carefully enough or maybe I had my caps lock on.

So, my experience with NS2 consisted of the log in page. After I wasn't able to log in, I decided that it was not worth my time and gave up. The Destroyer of Worlds did not get a single dollar of mine, I am happy to say.

I'm not sure why the Destroyer of Worlds would axe the NS1 forums though. Currently, the NS1 forums are almost 80% of their total activity. That's 80% of their total advertising viewership, and presumably about 80% of their click through traffic. They would be royally screwing themselves to remove four fifths of their revenue stream, right?

Generally speaking, the moment a well-functioning net game (simulation, if you will), brings out an "upgraded copy" where you have to use real life money for certain elements in the game, that's generally automatic FAIL. :(

Unless it is indeed a MMORPG, in which case it can work. ;)

For those that wish to have "real" civilizations to build, check out the Orion games series. Set in space, yes, but in a way more realistic than NS nations. :P

They may not ax the Jolt forums, but they've bit by bit removed abilities to moderate them or made it harder. It's not as though we were abusing our privileges and causing havoc all over the place, so the reasons behind it remain a mystery. Plus they've never really cooperated when it comes to the wide variety of nations that had problems getting their forum account working. So players for years have been unable to access the Jolt Forums, but given noone from NS was ever allowed to deal with any admin issues, we had no advice other than, "try another nation". That's crap.

And additionally, all the ad revenue that is generated by using Jolt supports a company that screwed over the maker of the game that gave you the community you so love and enjoy.

There was an error processing this template element

I was in the process of deleting my NS2 nations when I got this message. It seems OMAC wants to force existing nations to play the game until the end.

I have no problem with the concept of paying for extras. OMAC did get $5 of my hard-earned money, but I saw no reason whatever to renew after it expired. Hearing how Max got the short end, I'm even more glad that I didn't throw any more money their way.

I´ll be very inparcial as i can be about this, im not such an imortal NS player as some of you are, but ive been around for some time, Orwelliad is my 3rd nation, ive been around here for 2 years, with the other nations, and now Orwelliad.

What brought me into NS two years ago was that it was the SOLE purely political game on the scene, Cybernations was pretty dumb, and hard for someone new to begin(and not very political), and Ogame was mental death, and then i found this game, where you had a ranking, had to make political/social/economic decisions, and you had an UN ranking, and also an UN! it is very original, and after 7 years still the only one of its genre out there.

NS2 in my opinion, was a bad idea from the start, the addment of war was going to wreak a lot of things, and open the doors to the Ogame style "I n00k yu" fat kids, the economics was a good idea, but i always felt that those were all things that could be added into THIS game, also, it would be nice if the history of the nation page could be inserted in this game, it would be cool.
NS2 was a very poor game, it centered itself on the economic stuff(badly done), it required payment, the political aspect of the game was generaly ignored, the interface was VERY lousy, and the worlds feature destroyed the social networking, overall very weak, and i dont think its going to return, Jolt probably ended the project for good.

What can be learned from NS2?(for i believe that we learn from all errors), one, that sometimes the original and old is still very good and only needs a little work (like my 1968 MG Midget, that still kicks ass better then most "modern cars"), also, that blind corporate practices are still very much alive (Jolt probaly has a PHB, see Dilbert to understand ;) ), also, that at least, there is a space out there on this porn loaded, Facebook covered, Ogame fat ugly kids saturated, Internet that still gives a damn about political networking.

Down with Jolt´s greedy stupid corporate practices, and congrats for Max for his great game, great book (yes i read it and liked it) and for not selling out to Jolt or other crappy dot.com corps out there.

That remark was more general than I think you took it. To me the people running Jolt/OMAC are underhanded and I personally want nothing more to do with them. Given other sentiments in this thread, some agree with that. That you don't is neither here nor there to me.

Well, to be fair, they are kinda screwing over everyone involved with NationStates proper...

i was posting in both, but I got tired of opening both, cause Im lazy, and when choosing which to open, this one is both easier on the laziness factor, and the conscience...

I dont think they are consciously guilt-tripping you, more along the lines of voicing the morally compromising aspects of using the Jolt forums...

EDIT:plus, even the green has started to grow on me, I kinda like it, stays with the theme, lol...

Good point made. I didn't get round to get my own alliances past the two nations mark!
