KARŌTO (SP) - Embedded Sutāpuresu
Image
Destroyers of the Hōfuku Kantai on maneuver in late 2013.
correspondents aboard the battleship SN Pārurōzu are reporting that the Fifth Naval Action Group which left port from Karōto Bay almost two weeks ago is bound for a rendezvous with a Sutā Kamotsu cargo ships bound for Belfras. The Fifth Naval Action Group, often referred to as Hōfuku Kantai (Fleet of Retribution) is the largest of the ten major units in the Combined Fleet of the Sutādōtā Navy, consisting of one battleship, two aircraft carriers, five amphibious assault ships, and ten smaller warships as of late 2013. It's very existence has been dubbed "overkill" by several foreign media outlets, with an inventory fit for an all-out invasion force. If the fleet left port at full strength, which by all reports it did, the Fifth is also outfitted with the Fifth Special Naval Landing Corps - a division of light amphibious assault infantry supported by an armored cavalry battalion - and the Fifth Carrier Group, consisting of the 405th and 407th Fighter Squadrons, the 203rd and 219th Attack Squadrons, and an air assault group. The Hōfuku Kantai is expected to be out of port for the foreseeable future, with Admiral Kazumi Nakatsurī saying that the Fifth will, "accompany Sutādōtā trade vessels through hostile waters and provide logistical support where needed."

Some fringe liberal groups have cited this action as an attempt by the Admiralty Board to expand Sutādōtāzu's influence across Pardes through its shipping lanes, and in effect give the Sutādōtā Navy strike capability further west. These claims were denied by the Naval Department, however, stating that this move was only to protect Sutādōtā trade vessels from the increasingly real threats of piracy from Ashizwe and Tippercommon. In a press conference, Admiral Gouta Tatsuya stated that all military vessels would not leave international waters, and that they would loiter several hundred kilometers off the coast of the cargo's destination ports until the merchant vessels returned. He also stated that the projection of Sutādōtā air power would be limited to helicopter patrols around the convoys to provide a quick response to piracy threats. While it is believed that the Fifth Fleet is entirely outfitted with several fighter and reconnaissance squadrons, it is likely the Admiralty Board has taken this approach as to minimize international backlash. It is also likely that the Fifth Fleet will be split overtime, with multiple squadrons branching off to escort cargo ships to various destinations, with the most likely being Belfras, Rodarion, Estovnia, and Estovakiva. This announcement has also come at a time when the Sutādōtā Parliament has been in gridlock over the country's defense appropriations act for 2015, which the Patriotic Party of Sutādōtazu, the majority party, have been trying to push through committee. In its current form, it would set up provisions to integrate military vessels into the nation's merchant navy and to arm cargo ships. However, the more fiscally conservative sects of the Patriotic Party and the minority parties have been blocking its passage. This Executive Order may be a temporary fix to bypass the legislature, and will likely take the place of the militarized merchant marine clause as it will likely get dropped.

There has not been much argument from Parliament referring to the Executive Order's waste and any possible international consequences which could spawn from it, but rather how the Executive sidestepped the Legislative. But, with the way things are in Parliament at the moment, and with the Patriotic Party's numbers, any official reprimand of the Patriarch is implausible. The response from the Sutādōta public has been fairly positive to indifferent regarding the matter, with most of the Patriotic Party's constituents supporting the move as a way to end the stagnation in Parliament. Some liberal fringe groups in Karōto vocally protested this order, but thus far their actions have only amounted to a ten man picket outside of the Naval Department garrison being broken up by metropolitan police. With the Patriotic Party's slight majority in Parliament, little disapproval coming from the Prefectures, and massive support from from domestic corporate interests, this order will likely not be overturned. SP correspondents at the Patriarch's Palace have been informed that it is likely that the Second and Fourth Naval Action Groups may also be appropriated for this task as well, and that a portion of Sutādōtazu's naval and marine reserves may be called upon to provide security for cargo ships.

Besides the threat of piracy, the positioning of naval assets in the Central Ocean may be a play by the Admiralty Board to get strike forces in a strategic location to allow for operations in the Seukutan and the rest of the Mid-East; a hotspot in Pardes. It is speculated by the political commentary magazine, the Metropolitan, that this will be the culmination of decades of military buildup. Fairly isolationist in terms of military commitments, this would be the first time that Sutādōtazu would commence military operations outside of the Far East. It would certainly justify the massive defense budget which Parliament has routinely allocated to the Sutādōta Strike Corps, which has up to this point served as a glorified self defense force. With the most recent naval acquisitions from the states of Yohannes and Belfras just arriving in Karōto Bay earlier this year, this may be a signal for future aggression from Sutādōtazu.

CSU, Pardes(The Soviet) — A historic event occurred today amid Destiny's Crossing, a bridge that spans the Burossamu River which defines the northern border between Sutadotazu and the CSU. Premier Zelenov of the CSU and Patriarch Ryozo Ito embarked on memory lane on the bridge, discussing many topics and ideas for future projects to strengthen the relationship between the two countries, while in the background two large battleships ominously set offset on the banks of the river to signify their friendship.

By midday, both Premier Zelenov and Patriarch Ito bowed and signed the Astra Compact, a Military Non-Aggression and Mutual Defense Treaty further strengthening the two countries in a close and unbreakable bond.''It is with Great Honour, that we form this pact between our two nations, to strengthen our friendship and provide an unbreakable bond for future generations'' Premier Zelenov was quoted. The Astra Compact ensures mutual security between the two states, reduced tariffs on trade, lax on borders, and in case one is attacked, the other is bound to rush to the nation's aid.

Since the 1980s, both nations had embarked on a massive military build-up originally pitted at eachother. As the borders and seas became increasingly militarized it appeared war was almost imminent, fortunately by the early 1990's as Western Powers in Pardes continued to grow in strength; both nations realized that there was a need to balance power to a growing West, giving new sight for competition as several treaties were signed to further strengthen the two economically and socially while the military build-up continued to counter and balance power from other Western powers.

CSU, Pardes — For residents in both Sutadotazu and Brevskaya Zemla, a sudden bright flash and what felt an earthquake was an unexpected occurrence this morning, breaking windows and setting off car alarms as a side-effect from the Chyekish Military testing the new Naga-1 Nuclear Warhead in the Valchevsky Testing Range. ''It was like having lightening strike near your house, and you're waiting for the thunder but instead the ground just shook for a few moments'' - one resident of Brevskaya told CSM, who also showed us the broken glass on the side of her house and a few downed branches and leaves.

The nuclear test that was carried out is unknown whether it was dropped or tested under-ground at this time, but the Military Soviet released a statement not long after, stating they had tested ''successfully, the largest nuclear weapon ever built by the CSU'', Naga-1 which shares its name with the mythological monster, was apparently a 50 megaton warhead that when detonated sent a shockwave around the globe a reported three times, being able to be registered on Geannese Seismographs as far as Triela in Sondria on its third trip.

The blast from the device sent debris and a mushroom cloud that rose to an estimated 70 kilometers in height, with a fireball of roughly 8 kilometers in diameter. Locals said they could see a flash from as far as a thousand kilometers away. Unfortunately, the Military Soviet has declined to release any further information as of yet, though the device is expected to be one of many. In a statement released by the Military Soviet, ''We expect to conduct further test with this weapon to be decided at a future date''

Some have speculated that the weapon test is more a scare tactic than anything, though some are confused exactly on who the Military Soviet wishes to scare. It could have also been a legitimate test, a month ago the Military Soviet unveiled the Mao-3, the largest ever produced ICBM. Given the size the Naga had to be for the test it's a safe bet that it was designed to fit in the Mao. Unfortunately, even that information is currently classified.

ITŌSI (SP) -
Image
Sutādōtā warheads being installed in an MIRV configuration , 1989.
The residents of the small fishing community of Itōsi were waken abruptly this morning by a nuclear detonation 300 kilometers off of its shores. This morning, the Chyekish government unleashed the equivalent of 50,000,000 tons of TNT on the island of Brevskaya Zemla as part of military testing sessions of the CSU's Naga-1 warhead. The Sutāpuresu office in Itōsi are reporting massive property damage caused by the shockwave and heavy waves caused by the resulting seismic activity. While a comprehensive report of casualties has not yet been put together, SP can confirm that at least four fishermen have been killed as a result of the surf and that several dozen have been injured. Smoke from structure fires can be seen on the horizon as several gas stations have erupted in flames. The nuclear power plant on the outskirts of the city has been shutdown as a safety measure, and the all homes one kilometer from the coast have been evacuated. While no mass evacuation of the town at large has yet been announced, the Grand Air Service has deployed fallout clean-up teams to the area. According to the Association of Nuclear Research, fallout from a 50 megaton detonation could rain as much as 1,000 rads per hour up to 540 kilometers away from the epicenter. Although weather patterns would suggest that fallout will not steer towards the Sutādōtāzu coast, the government is not taking any chances.

In an official statement from the Office of the Patriarch, Press Chair Kazuo Matsui told executive correspondent that the Chyekish tests are planned and cleared with the Patriarch, and that the damage in the northern prefectures was an unintended consequence. Simultaneously, the Interior Department announced on their website that it would compensate residents who were victims of the incident who lacked insurance up to ¥5,000. The Admiralty Board announce that supply drops containing food, medicine, and water could be expected within the week.

This afternoon, the War Department also announced its own string of nuclear tests to be carried out throughout the rest of July and August in the interior of the country in undisclosed air bases. Formerly in an arms race with the Chyeks, the Sutādōtā military has accumulate a fairly large nuclear stockpile of 25,000 warheads (according to the War Department's records). This testing may be a show of power in the wake of the Chyek tests, but it also may be a statement that the East is just as mighty as the dominant West. The War Department announced that it will be testing various parts of its nuclear delivery system, including intercontinental ballistic missiles (which share the same platform as many of the Sutādōtā Space Agency's launch vehicles), warheads intended for SLBM's and cruise missiles, and potentially warheads with record-breaking yields comparable to the Naga-1. With the arrival of a dozen ballistic missile submarines from Yohannes, it seems that the War Department is eager to outfit and evaluate them with a round of dummy launches. As these subs will likely be deployed with the fleets that are now accompanying Sutādōtā merchant vessels, it will give the Admiralty Board and the War Department near unlimited range for its nuclear assets.

Exact details regarding the tests and the future of Sutādōtā naval deployments remain classified.

Itailian Separatists declare Drakkar independent

Image

Catholic separatists fighting in Drakkar Province (Southern Itailia), continue to aim for freedom

25thJuly, 2014| 19.00 PM PCT | înregistrate| By: Nicolae Eliade

It has been seven months since the regime in Ebonaevron ordered the murder of over 230,000 innocent Catholic men, women and children. Seven months since the Itailian government began its genocide upon its Catholic people, at the behest of their pagan idols, it was also seven months ago that the Catholic people of Drakkar Province, the most southerly of the provinces on mainland Itailia, began to fight back and resist the genocide, fighting valiantly in the face of overwhelming odds and the government's use of its monopoly of violence.

Since December last year, over 35,000 men, women and children have been killed in the fighting in Drakkar, with the Itailian murderous state apparatus suffering some 15,000 deaths. The Drakkarian population is defended by numerous separatist groups, the largest being the Army of Christ (Exercitus Christo to use their official name), the Drakkarian Liberation Front (DLF) and the Righteous Resistance Front (RRF), alongside some 100 different groups, yet the largest three have high levels of respect for each other and cooperate hourly in their struggle against pagano tyranny. Every day the groups fighting for the very survival of the Drakkarian people, engage in direct military confrontations with the Itailian government's police, justicars and its dishonourable army, which continues to massacre Drakkarian Catholics with drone strikes and indiscriminate assaults on population centres, but they hold out. During the uprising in Nece from February to April, the Catholic people fought on, despite being bombarded from the air and ground, despite facing huge numbers of Itailian, Arthuristan and even token Emmerian forces, the uprising failed and 20,000 people died in total, yet the symbolism of the uprising proved priceless, thousands more rallied to the call to freedom. The cabal of killers in Ebonaevron may have won at Nece, but it has lost the war.

Tonight, marked the beginning of the end of this brutal conflict, an hour ago, the leaders of the EC, DLF, RRF and 39 other smaller groups met at a secret location and live to Pardes, announced the secession of Drakkar from Itailia and the founding of the Christian State of Drakkar, of course this in reality means nothing, the separatists do not control swathes of Drakkar, let alone a sizeable area to form an official state, yet it's very purpose stands to bring in further defenders, tonight the separatists said that they're now fighting for one thing and one thing only, the complete destruction of the invader and occupier and the liberation of Drakkar. They fight to drive out the murderous legions of the Itailian government in Ebonaevron, they will fight until the last man until their land is free from desocration and violation.
Image
Regulus Orsini is the military leader of the Exercitus Christo

The Exercitus Christo has proved to be the most successful among the liberators of the Drakkarian people, led politically by Father Attilus Sartorius and militarily by Regulus Orsini, these two men have proved irreplacable in their ability to raise up the Drakkarian people to fight against a government that seeks their annihilation. Orisin has led the brigades of the EC in a deadly insurgency against the Itailian government, it has liberated numerous towns and villages in the Drakkarian countryside and turned the cities in graveyards for the soldiers of the criminal Itailian government. Orsini makes regular appearances on the internet through videos and audio recordings, rallying his fighters and the Drakkarian people, yet it is Father Sartorius who has proved the most vocal, a strong orator has produced over 1,000 audio and video recordings on the internet and regularly takes to the radio waves, speaking to the Drakkarian people, using scripture and patriotism to ensure his people do not forget their cause. Most importantly, Sartorius' voice can be heard in Rodarion, he has on numerous occassions asked the Rodarian government to intervene to aid his cause.

"I ask the Mother Church and the most exalted people of Rodarion to aid me and my fellow soldiers of the Lord in bringing justice to Itailia, in bring freedom and liberty to Drakkar, help us achieve God's will, help us drive the invader, muderer and the rapist from our soil, I fear we cannot do it alone, only with your aid will we drive the heretic, the apostate and the sinner from God's ordained soil in Drakkar, I pray you shall hear my call", Father Sartorius' most infamous address to Rodarion to date.

Calls for intervention are growing rapidly in Rodarion, over 100 Senators have signed a letter to Consul Octavian Ceaușescu urging him to officially declare a humanitarian intervention and drive the Itailians out of Drakkar. Some 850,000 people have rallied across the Papal Republic in total over the past two weeks demanding the same, anti-Itailia and Drakkarian solidarity rallies have been a daily occurrance across the nation over the past seven weeks, with public opinion utterly against the Itailian government's lies about the EC and other groups being terrorists, how long the government can avoid calls at home and the calls of the suffering and oppressed in Drakkar is unknown, but events on the border will be pushing the Papal Republic into action sooner or later. Last week, two Rodarian soldiers were injured during a brief exchange of gunfire across the border, two weeks before that three soldiers were killed during a much more heated clash with Itailian soldiers, after some 35 Exercitus fighters seeked refuge in Rodarion, four Itailians were also killed. But most dramatic of all, last month, 9 soldiers were killed when the Papal Army and the Itailian Forces exchanged artillery fire, after the Itailians bombarded an area of the border, they claimed to be a 'terrorist safezone', 14 Itailians were killed by Rodarian counter-fire.

Soon the Papal Army will join the Drakkarian people in the righteous cause of liberation, Drakkar's soil will become free from the boots of the oppressor and the murderer, it is only a matter of time.

Hudson, Prestonia (PBC) — The Foreign Ministry pulled no punches in a press briefing this afternoon, blasting what it called the "irresponsible and dangerous" actions of the Chyekish Soviet Union in response to that nation's recent nuclear test.

The test, which was announced by Polana a few days ago, was reported at a strength of 50 megatons (equivalent to fifty million tonnes of TNT) though government intelligence analysts have not confirmed this estimate. The blast was felt on Royal Geological and Hydrographic Survey seismometers throughout the nation, with the strongest tremors registering 2.9 on the Richter scale at a station in Dunmoor, on the Isle of Stanhope. In the first official mention of the event since its announcement, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Henry Grant condemned the move, calling it an "unnecessary and provocative," act which constitutes "a direct threat to the peace and security of the region."

"These sorts of large-scale tests must be understood for what they truly are: a base attempt to bully and intimidate one's neighbours, and a fundamental threat to international security," Grant said. "His Majesty is deeply concerned for the fallout both real and political resulting from these actions, and wishes to condemn in strongest terms this modern-day manifestation of big-stick diplomacy. His Majesty has instructed the Foreign Ministry to communicate the nation's concern and displeasure with these actions to the highest levels of government in the Chyekish Soviet Union. It is His Majesty's sincerest hope that the future policy decisions of the CSU will be undertaken with chief regard for the peace and stability of itself and the region as a whole."

A separate statement released later this afternoon stated that the Foreign Ministry's mission to the Organisation of Pardesi Affairs would be drafting a resolution to express "significant concern" over the "political and environmental damages of such activity," but denied this would involve a condemnation of the CSU. Environmental watchdog groups, meanwhile, have stated that the exact path and nature of fallout will be difficult to predict in the coming days and weeks, but that the Home Island and outlying areas are not likely to be threatened.

"We expect that as a worst-case scenario, some fallout might reach the southern area of the Isle of Stanhope, but even in this circumstance the most volatile radiogens, such as strontium-90, will have fallen out over the ocean," a spokesperson from the Ministry for the Public Health stated. "We are monitoring the situation closely in conjunction with the RGHS, but at this time we are not advising any evacuations or changes in normal business in the Gravic Sea or Gravic Isles area."

Imperial Supreme Court Strikes Down Far South Fracking, Eminent Domain Regulations In Landmark Ruling

Image
Pictured: The Imperial Supreme Court's Palace of Justice building in the Government District in Provisa, NB.

Legal, Political Analysts: 6-3 Ruling A "Seismic" Impact On Belhavian Property Rights, Energy Policy.
July 24th, 2014 | By Elazar Cohen (ecohen@aij.org) (AIJ) | 11:25am EDT

PROVISA, NEW BELHAVIA — In a political and legal earthquake, the Imperial Supreme Court ruled early Thursday morning in Kohen, et al. v. Novian simultaneously that eminent domain - the practice of governments coercively buying private properties at market value for 'public projects' - is unconstitutional because it treads on the inviolability of private property rights in the Imperial Constitution and that regulations placed on fracking in the Far South are unconstitutional because they exceed the "undue burden" test of government interference on private economic activity from another notable Court decision, East Valley Gas & Electric v. West Dakos Provincial Board of Business Oversight (1983).

Chief Justice Samson Katz, a leading judicial conservative on the high court, wrote and delivered the ruling, joined outright by Associate Justices Esther Lauer, Efraim Horowitz, and Asher Schiff - all considered part of the high court's conservative wing. Swing conservative Justice Laurel Rifkin and the Court's only dedicated centrist, Mordecai Podhoretz, joined the Chief Justice's decision in part but disagreed on the violation of the East Valley "undue burden" test. All three of the Court's liberals - Justices Janet Smith, Omar Al-Fayeed, and Ezra Waxman - signed a vehemoth dissent, charging that eminent domain was permissible under existing constitutional interpretation from Asland Financial Group, et al v. Imperial Government of New Belhavia (1949). The dissenters also alleged scathingly that the majority's ruling on the fracking regulations was "without doubt based on ideology and current-day politics" and such regulations should have passed the East Valley test.

Decision's Decidedly Powerful Impact on Belhavian Political Economy

The decision is a victory for the conservative and libertarian movement to undue earlier liberal activist Court majorities that legalized extensive state-directed economic interventionism in the post-Galarian era, which is thought to have started with the Asland decision in 1949 that legalized limited, partial nationalization of parts of large-scale private businesses. The East Valley ruling in 1983 was the first successful challenge to the liberal ascendency on the high court, where turnover in two Associate Justiceships from aging judicial liberals to newly appointed, younger conservatives by Tory President Julian Settas tipped the Court back towards the right. Since 1983, with few exceptions, the Court has generally dismantled the constitutional permissibility of government interference in the private economy with decisions in the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s. One of those exceptions was eminent domain, upheld in a narrow 5-4 ruling in Weinstein v. City of Provisa (1999).

Conservative judicial groups are planning to use the Kohen ruling to challenge existing eminent domain laws across the Empire. The president of the litigation-oriented Institute for Property Rights vowed "we will sue every jurisdiction where eminent domain is the law, and knock them out in one swift blow." The spokesman for the Libertarian Party, Jason Weingarten, crowed in a press release that "this latest landmark ruling in favor of individual rights and economic freedom is another step towards transforming Belhavian society into a culture of total liberty, such as Alleghania."

Energy Policy, Fracking Revolution, and Alleghania: Chains Unleashed

This morning's ruling opens the door to revving up the so-called "Fracking Revolution" in Belhavia's polar Far South, where new fracking technologies - a method of injecting high-pressure fluid into the ground to loosen up subterranean rock containing energy deposits - are opening up new deposits of natural gas, shale oil, crude oil, and other energy-producing mineral oils.

At the center of this are two interweaving processes: first, the Goldman Administration's and previous presidents' standing policy to distance the Belhavian economy from oil exports from the Dominion of Estovakiva-dominated oil cartel, the Organization of Pardesi Fossil Fuel Exporting Countries, and second, the increasing partnership between Belhavian and Alleghanian firms on everything from oil & gas development, petrochemicals, agrichemicals, and other important economic products.

The Provisa Treaty signed between Provisa and Jefferson, D.A., in April already cemented growing ties between the pair of nations. The overturning of regulations on fracking will allow Belhavian and Alleghanian firms to go full steam ahead on developing, extracting, and exporting new energy resources from New Belhavia, loosening the hold on imported oil that the Empire has had since the mid-1950s.

This leapfrogging towards energy independence - or energy dependence from reliable friends such as Alleghania and Emmeria as well as growing energy supplies from home rather than from overseas - is a goalpost of the Goldman Administration, which has aggressively sought to move away from the OPFFEC, an organization the Imperial Government has denounced as "illegal," "monopolistic," and "unconscionably oppressive."

The chief plaintiff in the case, the Kohen Institute - an Alleghanian think tank with extensive Belhavian ties - put out a press release celebrating their victory this morning. A Kohen spokesman declared: "Today has been a great victory, but not one that merely the businessman or the members of the petroleum industry can claim wholly as their own. Today is a victory for liberty; today is a deathknell, sounded by the free peoples of Pardes, to herald forth the downfall and demise of burdensom, unruly, government intervention into what is a basic human right: the right to own property." He added: "Today is a victory for every individual who wishes to maintain his rights to his person, life, and property without fear of government interference or subtrefuge. Today is a victory for every Belhavian," adding, "and for every Pardesi who wishes to see an end to that tyrannical statism - that corporatism of statehood - which seeks to undermine all men and through a thousand cuts, drain them of their lives and their liberties."

"Critical" Victory in Hussienartian/Mutongonese Conflict
Sieuxerrian/Mutongonese troops route large Hussienartian force after pitched battle.

Reported by Abélard Ory| 7/24/14 | 1600 SST | Mabuga Province, Northern Mutongo

Image
A knocked out Hussienartian T-62 tank hours after the
battle ended.
After days of heavy fighting between the People's Liberated Republic of Husseinarti and the The Democratic Republic of Mutongo along with the Republic of Sieuxerr, the large force of 11,000 Husseinartian troops are in full retreat pending an overwhelming defeat which occurred last night. The force of 11,000 Husseinartians were meet by a brigade of 4,000 Mutongonese mechanized troops along with 2 companes of AMX-30B2s, an undermanned mechanized battalion of 1,500 Sieuxerrian marines, and 2 platoons of AMX-45B3s. The total force of troops did not number over 8,000 in total, vastly outnumbered by the enemy force.

However, after a few early victories by the Husseinartian mechanized troops in the battle, a counter-offensive was conducted by the Sieuxerrian marines. Early dawn of the 24th, the 1,500 man force, supported by tanks, artillery and Rafales from the carrier Debout, quickly pushed deep into the Musseinarti lines and were followed by Mutongonese troops. The advance drove straight into the HQ of the Husseinartian force, and once eliminated, caused great confusion as Husseinartian forces began a frantic withdraw from the area as a general offensive was conducted by the Mutongonese troops.

Husseinartian losses are predicted to be in the thousands, with an estimated 2,500 total killed, injured or captured along with over 240 armored vehicles. Sieuxerrian and Mutongonese losses were noted to be fairly light, with 114 Sieuxerrian troops killed or injured with additional 11 armored vehicles, and 519 Mutongonese troops killed or injured along with 22 armored vehicles.

Residents rush to meet advancing troops, cheering
and holding signs.
The after effects of this battle are going to be "immediately felt", as stated by general Abraham Rivier, commander of Outer Land Forces. He stated that, "Victory here shows to both Husseinartian and Mutongonese that the Sieuxerrians are here to protect the nation of Mutongo from any aggression whatsoever. It has also caused a serious blow to Husseinartian forces and allows us to begin the recapture of the Mutongo province, which has been occupied since late 2013."

A follow up to the end of the battle, Sieuxerrian troops entered the town of Zashe, which had been abandoned by the former Husseinartian military forces. As the first Sieuxerrian troops entered, the local residents exploded into celebration with the arrival of the soldiers. One soldier stated, "We were expecting bullets, not civilians rushing out to us, cheering like they did. We found ourselves having to peel civilians off us and our vehicles as we tried to secure the town. Its a great feeling as you can imagine, seeing your actions at work here, seeing these people finally free after months of occupation."

Prime Minister Irenaeus, Government, Condemns Nuclear Test
Prime Minister Irenaeus condemns the test and with Parliament 'has taken steps towards containment'

Valtos, Valinor — Following an absolutely unprecedented move by the Chyekish Soviet Union, Prime Minister Niko Irenaeus has issued a specially delivered state address from inside the Hall of Law in the capital of Valtos today, joined by a full session of Parliament, as well as His Highness Prince Seleukos, who was there as a representative of the Crown; the statement which was delivered without any notes or prompts was as follows:

'The actions undertaken by the illegitimate and now grossly irresponsible regime is something that sounds of a fantasy book; most rational people could never imagine in all of our modern civilization, such barbarism would still exist, and such an dreadful and morally debauchee act was committed by a government, no less a repressive one at that by all accounts.

This nuclear test is a gross fully evil action and one this Kingdom can not ignore. I have consulted my people, I've consulted His Majesty, we will not let some immoral and criminally unethical regime continue to develop weapons which are without a doubt meant to endanger millions of innocent human beings, who deserve to live without fear; indeed, these weapons are being developed by nothing more then a bully who has grown bored, and if must, we shall act as the instructor who punishes the bully. As I speak, this Government and this nation will be taking steps of containment towards the Chyekish regime, including but not limited to the extension of combat exercises with the 7th Battle Group in the Central Channel, as well as per Parliamentary resolution, the cessation of all air line and naval travel with the Chyekish Regime. Senator Athanas has also called for a session tomorrow to discuss further economical sanctions should the regime continue to display childish and criminally dangerous actions. We urge the people to not let their government go further with these violent acts and to seize their day and hold their government responsible; or else, we will.

Various sources, including Prince Seleukos and independent civilian sources have confirmed that the 7th Battle Group, a full sized unit based around the VRS Rjal, the first of two Rjal-class supercarriers, has had their exercises, which were originally set to conclude around this week extended for an additional three weeks and their combat practice zone was moved a number of kilometers north, closer to Chyekish national waters, but still in international ones. Additionally, the Ministry of Interior confirmed by posting a bulletin banning all civilian air, naval and land flow with the Chyekish nation until suspension by the Ministry or by Parliamentary order. Senator Theonatius Athanas, a very popular representative for the northern Nala district, has voiced strong criticisms against the regime and has already stated that Parliament may be further seeking targeted restrictions against key members of the Chyek regime, as well as possibly more 'serious' moves should further nuclear tests occur.

Niels S. Møller contributed to this report.

CSU, Pardes — With the success of the first test of the Naga-1, a 50 Megaton Nuclear Warhead, the Military Soviet announced that it would continue on with another test of the warhead, this time mounted on - as suspicions were confirmed; an ICBM delivery vehicle. This comes not long after regional criticism most notably from Prestonia and Valinor condemning the tests. The Military Soviet however stated that it wasn't ''worried over Prestonian or Valinor aggression'' citing that the test had been pre-planned as an operational drill with Sutadotazu for several months now.

In response to Valinor's sabre-rattling, the Military Soviet announced that it had no intention on ''dropping to their level'' and would not hold counter war-games. ''They're angered because we held a pre-planned weapon test, so they're willing to be warmongers to try and intimidate us - We do not slump to the level of bullies and barbaration'' Military Soviet spokesman Han Gonzhou told CSM.

Some have come to wonder if shutting down the straights to Valinor merchant ships would be a viable option, the Military Soviet denied any such rumour stating that the ''channel would still be freely open to Valinor merchant ships and that such a move would be pointless and only escalate such matters.'' However, Polana did display its disgust with such moves from Valinor stating it was ''provoking'' and ''highly irrational'', especially with the threat of ''dealing'' with ''bullies'' the Valinor media outlined. ''Testing a nuclear device is not an illegal move, there was no threat to Valinor citizens or regional security, these are contained tests, and threatening what could be argued as military action is highly irrational and extremely discrediting to Valinor''Gonzhou said.

The test site for the Naga ICBM however is currently unknown, the MS stated it would not continue with another test in Brevskaya for fear further damaging residential property and posing a risk of injury to civilians after an unfortunate side effect occurred in Sutadotazu. Sources say however that the site will more than likely be in the ocean and the ICBM will not travel over any maritime or territorial borders of neighbouring nations.''We're taking every precaution to ensure safety and keep any panic to a minimum'' Gonzhou said.

It was outlined previously that the CSU would conduct several tests after the first deployment of the Naga-1, however that the next test would be the last for the weapon. The Military Soviet stated that it would then continue several underground tests at undisclosed locations with much smaller yields.

CSU nuclear test draws anger from Anikatia
Anikatian president condemns nuclear tests, threatens sanctions if the CSU and Sutadontazu do not halt plans for further tests

NEW: Government calls for calm,
among fears of nuclear fallout
Sutadotazu, Chyek military alliance
concerns for Anikatia?
ANTIYTIA, Anikatia — Chyekish Soviet Union conducted its first nuclear test on Thursday in defiance of OPA resolutions, drawing condemnation from around the world, including from Anikatia, which summoned the Chyekish Soviet Union ambassador to protest.

The test puts pressure on Anikatian President Niklas Bykov who has come under fire for continuing previous government deals which provided military support for Sutadotazu, which has only recently become a major ally of the CSU, and also announced its own plans for nuclear tests. Bykov has “strongly condemned” the actions of both governments who have traditionally shared favourable relations with Anikatia, although the Bykov government's challenge to maintain neutrality while pushing for closer ties with Central Defence Initiative (CDI) nations and maintaining relations with former Democratic Socialist Republic of Anikatia (DSRA) allies have proved a difficult act to balance.

Joshua Sleuss of the Committee for National Security think tank, said: "The test is hugely insulting to Anikatia, which now can be expected to follow through with threats to impose sanctions." Sutadotazu risks similar sanctions, and risks Anikatia ending it’s lease on former Anikatian strategic bombers, along with possible suspension of support and spare parts to the large number of Anikatian weapons systems in use by Sutadotazu armed forces.

The Anikatian President has called the test a “highly provocative act” that hurt regional stability. Bykov indicated that the government will also be making its deep concerns known to the CSU Government directly, as well as in international and regional forums. “The Anikatian Government condemns in the strongest possible terms nuclear testing by Chyekish Soviet Union, and the we will take steps necessary to defend ourselves and our allies. The danger posed by Chyekish Soviet Union’s threatening activities warrants further swift and credible action by the international community. We have given our full support for the current OPA Resolution” Bykov said.

Anikatian Prime Minister Cheon Hwa-yeon also condemned the test, but called on the CSU saying "The Chyekish Soviet Union’s future security and prosperity can only be secured through constructive relations with its neighbours and the international community." But that "Anikatia will continue to work closely with our friends and allies for peace and stability in Eastern Pardes." Dostálová said.

The first test on the Naga-1 nuclear weapon system was conducted at a secret location within the CSU, it is believed to been around 50 megaton, the Anikatian government has urged calm, downplaying any risk of fallout. Official reports from the Kindom of Prestonia claim that in the “worst-case scenario” fallout might reach as far as Isle of Stanhope, which would place the eastern regions of Anikatia at risk too; however a spokesperson from the Prestonia Ministry for the Public Health said that "the most volatile radiogens, such as strontium-90, will have fallen out over the ocean," Anikatian officials have stated that the Stveni Islands, have not been effected and will not be evacuated, instead business will continue as usual.

"The more Chyekish Soviet Union conducts nuclear tests, the more the international community will impose new and more severe resolutions," said Lotye Marcoux, a professor at Saint-Yves University. "It is an endless, vicious cycle."

While nuclear testing is currently not prohibited within the Pardes region, there was a gentleman's agreement amongst the major nations in the region that any type of testing would not be acceptable. However the Kindom of Prestonia has led the calls of condemnation against the CSU’s nuclear test, along with threats of further weapons testing by the CSU and Sutadotazu. It has submitted a Resolution to the Organisation of Pardesi Affairs seeking to prohibit any further nuclear tests. This Resolution has seen wide support from nations across Pardes including Anikatia and is expected to pass.

Council Discusses Political Reform; Elections by 2015?

Hudson Following on years of pledges made by the newly crowned King Charles III, a Council of State was convened today to discuss matters of political reform and democratization at a national level. This marks the first time since 2011 that a Council has been called.

According to a press release from the Crown Bureau of Press and Media Inquiries, the Council will initially consist of the fifty Life Peers of the Realm as well as senior jurists of the Crown College of Law. Its mandate, according to the press release, will be to "coordinate with and advise His Majesty on means and matters by which a democratic process may be established on a greater level, while safeguarding the institutions and understandings which underpin the present system of government."

These measures follow on statements made during King Charles III's Coronation Address, during which he pledged to "ensure that Our loyal subjects have a greater role to play in the operation of this great national family to which we all belong." The King also took time in that address to address the status of the monarchy, rejecting the tenants of Divine Right which critics have accused the Crown of operating under.

"The understanding between Us and Our subjects is based upon mutual affection and trust," the newly-crowned King stated. "It does not rely upon ancient myth, or might-make-right dominance which is so base as to have no part in our modern world. The right by which We are crowned is that of the support and love of Our people, and Our commitment to work for their common good first and only. There is nothing else but that." In a separate statement, the King elaborated that he wished to raise the Council of State to a standing legislative body and that the first elections might take place as early as 2015. Analysts, however, have characterised the Crown's statements as overly-optimistic.

"What you're doing here essentially is creating a framework from scratch, and there's a lot to consider just in the offing before you even get to the business of elections," Liberty Watch analyst Joe Morgan told PBC Evening News. "The Council will have to decide what the role of the Crown will be, what the role of the Council will be, where the checks and balances lie, what the Council is even going to look like in terms of bicameral or unicameral. It's going to be a long process, as much as the King might like to see elections by 2015 I think he'll find that there is more to building a democratic institution than meets the eye. I think the real test is going to be whether the Crown commits to this one-hundred percent once it becomes obvious that it won't be a bing-bang-boom solution. This isn't a genie you can stuff back into the bottle once you let it out and it could very well be a litmus test for the King's reign."

While the announcement was received favorably by most, criticism has been raised regarding the transparency of the process as well as its potential end result. Pro-republican advocacy group People for a Prestonian Republic released a counter-statement late this evening calling the Council "a farcical window-dressing of an archaic, dictatorial regime," and called upon the country to "demand real change and real political transparency from Hudson." The Crown did not acknowledge the comment.

"July Roundtable" Closes as Groundbreaking Treaty Passes Confederal Senate
"CORE" to be ratified Monday; Congress announces official convention of a new special joint committee.
Michael Kilmeade, mkilmeade@falconnews.com(FNC)
July 25, 2014 | Ambrosia, United Confederacy of Alleghania

Image
With the completion of the so-called "July Roundtable" last week, the Senate faced a race against the clock. In the final moments of business before the closing declaration before Congress' summer recess, the Senate consented-to and passed the groundbreaking "Ambrosia Accords" in a final tally of sixty-four (64) to six (6) in favor of its ratification. Considered the first great act in regards to a comprehensive shift in foreign policy toward those measures outlined during Loveless' campaign and inaugural speech, the Ambrosia Accords have been the topic of discussion for nearly three weeks amongst insider circles in Jefferson and Ambrosia.

Following closing statements, Senate majority leader and conservative-leaning Grand Old Alleghania member Harold Dyaze (Sannaye Compact; pictured right) took questions regarding the Accords and the "July Roundtable", stating: "The [Ambrosia Accords] mark a remarkable shift in the overall foreign policy of the United Confederacy since the former administration. It is evident that [President Loveless] intends to keep his obligations to the Alleghanian people, and [the Accords] are but to be the first step toward upholding those responsibilities."

According to documents obtained by Falcon News, the Ambrosia Accords declare their intent to "strengthen the unity, cooperation, and collaboration between the United Confederacy, [New Belhavia], the Western Confederal States, and the [United Republic of Emmeria]" through not merely an increasing of economic ties (including a radical reduction of excises and an outright abolition of most tariffs between the signatories) and cultural proliferation, but also through "mutual efforts to cooperate between [signatories'] respective agencies of the law and those which seek to uphold national, international, and regional security and stability".

When questioned as to the meaning of this, Senator Dyaze stated that, "admittedly, the language is broad", continuing, "but the intent and practices are evident: we will be initiating a new scope of cooperation between [the signatory parties'] law enforcement and defensive agencies". Charleston Herald reporter and journalist, Madeline Kline further pressed the Senator in regards to whether he felt this groundbreaking step is upholding the United Confederacy's position of neutrality and sovereignty, enticing a fair degree of uproar from many attending journalists, in addition to Senator Dyaze's rather dismissive response: "To imply [the Accords] in any way might undermine Alleghanian law or constitutionality is patently absurd. Working with a neighbor or a friend to plant and harvest a garden does not mean I'm surrendering my house, wife, and dog to them; what we're doing is hoping to cooperate to ensure that future generations of Alleghanians, Emmerians, Belhavians, Westerners, and Pardesians in general actually have a future to look forward to".

Even so, in light of recent nuclear testing undertaken by both the Chyekish Soviet Union and Sutadotazu, much of the press conference following the Senate's closure was mired in lines of questioning involving how the Ambrosia Accords and this new level of cooperation between the Confederacy and its allies might seek to respond. Specifically, whether the time regarding both the passage of the Accords and the passage of a resolution submitted by the Senate to the House of Yeomen to convene a special joint committee of Congress were related. "I really do hope that's quite obvious," Senator Dyaze went on to affirm, "I believe the resolution to estabish the Special Joint Committee for Regional Security and Stability passed [the House of Yeomen] immediately before [the Accords] received [the Senate's] consent. [...] Our allies [through the Accords] will, no doubt, be echoing the action in the coming days."

Dyaze went on to clarify the nature of the joint committee, stating that its purpose is to "investigate and promulgate policy" regarding not only the recent string of bellicose actions undertaken by the Chyekish Union and its allies, but also in response to "numerous vile and heinous acts of barbarism" undertaken by certain states within Pardes whom "seem to be committed to little more than violent repression and a constant bombardment of statist arrogance". Comprising members from both the Senate and House of Yeomen, the United Confederacy Congress Special Joint Committee for Regional Security and Stability will be holding informal meetings during the Congressional recess, largely debating and determining an initial course of action; following the three week recess, the committee will officially convene and will be comprised of ten members from each chamber of Congress, each submitting four members of Grand Old Alleghania and the Conservative Conference as well as one member from both the National Agrarian Front and Democratic Union; the JCRSS will, further, be chaired by ranking Senate majority leader Dyaze.

Regarding the potential options the JCRSS will be pursuing, Dyaze gave no confirmation, other than to state that "[Congress] will be keeping an open mind". An inside source for Falcon News and a congressional aide stated that, in all likelihood, the potential for the Chyekish Union to be declared "an immanent threat to national and regional security and stability" was "exceptionally high", officially proscribing Chyekish military vessels access to Alleghanian ports for haul, quarter, and maintenance. The source further speculated that "Congress is likely to consider more egregious options", including the potential for a "full trade embargo" against the Chyekish Union if its nuclear testing and aggression continues. This comes on the heels of the Valinor Prime Minister condemning the Chyekish Union and announcing military exercises in the Central Ocean in addition to further condemnations arising from Anikatia, a nation formerly mired by communistic policies.

Congressional sources, otherwise, have remained tight-lipped in regards to the Joint Committee for Regional Security and Stability's potential actions, seemingly igniting a new storm of speculation just as the controversy and discussion regarding the "July Roundtable" and "CORE" seems to be coming to a close. President Loveless, already declaring his intent to sign the Senate's consented version of the Ambrosia Accords on Monday, July the 28th, seemed to be taking the new issues in stride, clarifying that his new direction for the Confederacy's foreign policy will be one "which seeks to bring liberty to the peoples of Pardes" and "construct lasting structures for freedom and prosperity".

Regardless, speculation about the new special joint committee is likely to smolder during Congress' summer recess, even as the Loveless Administration seeks to ignite the flames of a new, greater collaborative partnership between the Confederacy and its closest associates.

NEW: President Vaziri denounces Chyekish nuclear
tests as "irresponsible", "belligerent"

Vaziri: "We will support an international solution
to ensure regional stability"

Air Force: Chyekish tests under extensive analysis
Oured, D.A., UNITED REPUBLIC (UP) — President Alex Vaziri condemned the recent nuclear missile tests conducted by the Chyekish Soviet Union (CSU) over the past week.

At Question Time, President Vaziri told reporters that the tests were conducted in a manner that openly invited concern. "Belligerently testing nuclear weapons severely undermines the sensitive regional stability of eastern Pardes. It is blatantly irresponsible," he said, stating that the tests far crossed the line for a peaceful nuclear energy program. "The United Republic will support and endorse an international solution to this issue because it presents significant threats to the Pardesian security environment. We will work with international bodies and aid in providing materiel support and intelligence data to extradite this process."

An OPA resolution to illegalize nuclear weapons testing above ground and in the sea was proposed recently by the Kingdom of Prestonia. The resolution would codify at least some of the typical international conventions against modern nuclear weapons testing conducted following the execution of proliferation of nuclear materiel and Uranium enrichment equipment and technical expertise. A majority of countries view the potentiality of nuclear proliferation in sensitive and unstable regions to be a significant threat to the security and peace of Pardes as a whole.

A U.R. official familiar with the matter, who requested anonymity because they were unauthorized to discuss the matter with the press, told the UP that the resolution was experiencing reasonable success on the floor of the OPA.

Monitoring the tests: How big and how many?

The Chyekish Soviet Union announced that it had tested a 50 megaton nuclear device in the Valchevsky Testing Range, a remote facility on islands north of Sutadoatzu, on July 24. New Shelvoy and Anikatian authorities independently confirmed geological seismic disturbances consistent with a nuclear test of that scale.

Capt. Matthew Larson, spokesman for the U.R. Air Force, confirmed the test's occurrence based on satellite intelligence. "Staring array infrared sensors on U.R. strategic reconnaissance satellites detected an ICBM launch north of Sutadoatzu on July 24. Non-imaging radiometers on nearby navigation satellites confirmed the characteristic double-light flash consistent with a nuclear burst signature around the same time."

Capt. Larson further announced that the UR is conducting air contamination flights in conjunction with New Belhavia and Alleghania in areas of eastern Pardes for further analysis. "The aircraft will collect air samples to conduct further analysis and confirm the presence of nuclear fallout," Capt. Larson said.

In some areas, commercial vessels have been asked to provide samples of material on their decks for the same purpose.

"We are trying to consolidate a lot of information to get a very clear, high-resolution picture of this nuclear test."

Dr. Jena Zhang, head of the nuclear engineering department at the Corsa Institute of Technology (CIT) and frequent UP nuclear technology consultant, told the UP that currently published data on the test confirms its sheer scale. "A 50 megaton test would rank as one of the largest nuclear devices ever tested," she said. "All available data, ranging from satellite information obtained from defense and commercial reconnaissance satellites, seismic data from sensors near the testing area, the spread of contaminated air samples, electro-optical intelligence, everything points to the potentiality that a very, very large nuclear device—on the scale of 50 megatons—was indeed tested in the area."

UP's Kader Tarek and Donald Voortman contributed to this report.

Should it really matter if they're conducting nuclear tests? We conduct nuclear tests. What, are we just going to ignore the new OPA resolution on above-ground testing whenever we want to?

CSU, Pardes — Mounting tensions in the past few days has done little to sway Polana from carrying out pre-planned nuclear test - this comes after the Military Soviet announced its success in detonating the Naga-1 on it's ICBM delivery vehicle. Not surprisingly, the CSU downplayed any real threat to regional security, keeping their promise that the missile would not cross over territorial nor maritime boundaries, and in order to further lighten the tension, the second test of the 50 Megaton warhead was conducted outside of regional waters, further putting no one in any imminent danger.

''We are very pleased with the test conducted today, having made history by delivering the largest ever warhead on an ICBM is a great achievement, especially for data that has been reaped from both tests'' MS Spokeman Han Gonzhou told CSM. In compliance with further promises, the Military Soviet released a statement to neighbouring governments in an open memo stating; ''The Chyekish Soviet Union will no further conduct nuclear tests with the Naga-1, and will move what further testing needs to be completed to underground with much smaller yielded weapons, and thus carried out in carefully controlled and safe environments within the CSU.'' a statement that the Military Soviet will help downplay any fears that neighbouring countries are holding against the nation, who has retained a nuclear program since the 1950s.

In a report released to CSM via the Military Soviet in regards to the first test, The Naga-1 detonation was an air-drop near the eastern shore of Brevskaya Zemla at the Wai Lin Bay Testing Range at 11:32am. Detonating at 4 kilometers above the surface by barometric sensors, the weapon exploded with a yield of 50 Megatons. Radioactive fallout was observed and monitored, and had traveled eastward among the Trans-Brevskaya Winds into the sea, thus putting no neighbouring nations in direct danger of nuclear fallout.

In light of the new findings among the first test of the Naga-1 the Miltiary Soviet further downplayed there being any real threat to regional security, ''We've no intention of intimidating or threatening nearby powers, these tests were strictly that, tests conducted for research of which will be publicly released at a later time'' Gonzhou stated, further following on Valinor's recent warmongering and reaffirming the CSU's stance on the wargames. ''Valinor feels the need to bully the CSU and act as a warmonger by holding wargames in the Central Ocean and using idle threats. This is not how you promote stability in the East, we will not stoop to their level of barbarianism, the CSU will hold no counter-wargames'' Gonzhou outlined.

When faced with the possibility of sanctions by neighbours, Gonzhou shrugged off the possibility of counter-sanctions as well, ''Our neighbours outside of Sutadotazu have immediately assumed we're a rogue, and uncompliant regime that is not willing to cooperate - jumping to any such conclusion is a dangerous game to be had. We're open to cooperation and willing to meet and discuss issues at hand on ensuring stability and peace in the East, any man or woman willing to jump to an assumption is putting everyone around them at risk and its a shame to know that our neighbours have done just so'' Gonzhou said, pointing to several ramblings by media sources in neighbouring countries such as Alleghania and Anikatia.

Valtos, Valinor — Less then two hours ago, the Chyekish nation announced their second nuclear weapons test, the deployment of a Naga-1 inter-continental ballistic missile, with Chyek-reported warhead of no less then fifty megatons, the largest nuclear missile warhead ever developed. The ICBM was fired from the northern Brevskaya islands and detonated in the high atmosphere over eastern regional nautical boundary; the Valinese Navy was able to independently confirm the detonation due to a ELINIT/SIGNIT site at the newly established royal colony, as well as onboard sensors from the V.R.S. Bellephorn, one of the Navy's lauded Peragii-class light carriers, whose battle group was patrolling nearby waters.

Prime Minister Irenaeus was quick in his condemnation, saying that the Chyekish determination to continue to display reckless abandonment of anything resembling responsible governing will cause extreme responses to their own actions, though when pressed, the Prime Minister did not specify what extreme measures he would be willing to conduct, but he did not rule out an armed strike. It has already been confirmed that four companies, containing the MIM-31 Vlegga, an anti-ballistic missile designed for quick interception has been deployed to AFB Gashak and AFB Rhindinhall and independent civilian observers stated they captured numerous photographs of the missiles being loaded into deployed launchers and there are unconfirmed reports of at least two missiles being tested in the Channel.

In addition to this, the 7th Battle Group had reportedly been joined by an munitions ship of the Royal Navy, which the DoD insists was bringing food but an unnamed Herald source has stated that they were carrying naval versions of the Vlegga, which could be fired from the Ogham-class guided missile destroyer or the two Warrior-class frigates present in the Battle Group. The Department of Defence also was refusing to confirm or deny that orders had been given for any available units to fire interceptors at any future Chyekish tests.

In addition to those developments, Speaker Akkakios of the House of Commons has confirmed that in a near unanimous vote the legislature has officially frozen and seized the assets of no less then fifty seven high ranking Chyekish leaders and socialites and has banned them from setting foot on Valinese soil.

Niels S. Møller contributed to this report.

"All Options Open" as Chyekish Crisis Intensifies

Hudson His Majesty's Government will leave no option off the table in addressing "aggressive, provocative and dangerous" actions of the Chyekish state, the Foreign Ministry announced this afternoon. This announcement comes in response to a second confirmed nuclear test, announced through Chyekish state media and confirmed by Royal Geological and Hydrographic Survey measuring instruments.

Speaking directly to PBC and others this afternoon, Foreign Minister Richard Young reiterated the condemnations echoed throughout the region in recent days, and stated that "every option is being considered," if the Chyekish Soviet Union continues its course of action.

"The world has heard Polana's excuses. We've heard their equivocating, their downplaying, and we've said 'enough is enough, it's time to cut the games and start taking the future and security of our region seriously,'" Young told the assembled media in a press conference. "The facts remain as they have since the first test not one week prior, that there is and can be only one purpose for testing on this scale and that is intimidation plain and simple. For the Chyekish government to claim a scientific purpose to these sorts of tests is to play the world community for fools, and I am proud to say that the nations of our region are now standing together and refusing to budge on this matter. Polana may think that the world community's reactions are overblown, paranoid, whatever label they wish to dismiss them with, but the fact is that the vast majority of its neighbors feel that there is legitimacy behind the concern and as a responsible member of the world community, the Chyekish state must address these concerns."

When asked about the recent statement pledging no further above-ground testing, Young said his ministry was "cautiously optimistic" but that time would be the ultimate deciding factor.

"Obviously on face value, yes its an encouraging sign that they [the Chyekish] are prepared to comply with the OPA resolution if it does indeed pass. But we must take into context the timing of this last test, which can be read as a sort of final nose-thumbing at the international community, and ultimately we cannot be too quick to jump to the conclusion that Polana has decided overnight to comply with the will of its neighbors. The Royal Security Forces and our neighbors in the region will be continually monitoring as necessary to ensure compliance and protect our respective interests from the consequences of these sorts of things. We remain, however, committed to the de-escalation of this crisis through diplomatic means first and foremost."

Prestonian OPA Ambassador Ken Lockhart was less-optimistic in his address to the OPA this afternoon, slamming the recent Chyekish statements as "hypocritical smoke-and-mirrors."

"The Chyekish state says it will do no more, it says all future tests will be conducted underground, and yet it is unwilling to bind itself to its promises by endorsing a resolution which contains nothing more or less than them. This is a state that will say whatever the world community wants to hear, and do whatever its leadership decides to do, and then wonder why the world does not take its promises seriously. It is that hypocrisy that makes this resolution necessary, and I am proud to say that at present the majority of the world community has joined together with Prestonia to put a stop to these destructive and dangerous acts."

A separate report from the Ministry for War stated that the Royal Army would be receiving shipments of the Sentinel Air Defence System, known in Valinese service as the MIM-131 Vlegga, as early as next month. The Sentinel/Vlegga system, a joint project by the Valinese and Prestonian defence industries, was previously scheduled for delivery in December; War Ministry spokespersons cited the date move as "a matter of strategic expediency" but did not directly implicate the CSU testing. The statement also mentioned that the routine Resolute Watch exercises in the Gravic would continue as planned, noting that the annual naval and aerial exercise would take place in international waters "greatly removed from areas of strategic interest...to the Chyekish state." The statement released today did not address persistent rumors that the Ministry may be in the process of developing its own military nuclear program, which analysts have had split opinions over. A source claiming to be close to the development program told PBC under condition of anonymity that Hudson is "strongly considering development on a long-term plan" but that no actual enrichment or design had yet begun.

Government in hypocritical scandal?
PM Davies praises Cyekish nuclear tests whilst condemning it in OPA resolution.
17/DEC/2013 | Albert Worthson (@Worthsonnews) (BNN)

Pictured at the re-opening of an Deslen Provincial football team, Davies has faced more criticism.

Isn Deslen, Belfras -

In an official statement by the government, Prime Minister Ian Davies publicly praised the efforts of the CSU to safely test nuclear weapons. Stating that "The nuclear weapon is, regardless of it's destructive capabilities, a defensive weapon. Nobody would even dream of using one in an offensive role unless pushed to do it by an aggressor. The efforts by the Military Soviet to test these weapons in a safe environment with minimal risk to human life is praiseworthy and should be allowed to continue."

Despite the Prime Minister's words, the Kingdom of Belfras officially voted for an Organization of Pardesi Affairs (OPA) resolution effectively banning nuclear tests. The resolution is thought to be a indirect attack of the CSU in retaliation for the test of the atomic weapon. When asked to comment, Prime Minister Davies insisted that the two entities were separate and should not be confused. The Royal Attachment to the Belfrasian OPA delegation was quoted as saying that the request to vote for the resolution came "-directly from the Prime Minister's office."

The nuclear test has drawn anger from many nations, including those within the direct sphere of influence (SOI) of the CSU. Valinor immediately reacted with Prime Minister Niko Irenaeus banning all travel to the CSU and ordering that their 7th Battle Group, already on exercises, to move closer to the CSU for the remainder of the exercises. Prestonia has reacted in a similar fashion, with Foreign Ministry spokeman Henry Grant calling the test a "unnecessary and provocative" act which presents a "direct threat to the peace and security of the region"

A source within the Royal Naval Admiralty Board leaked that Prime Minister Davies has asked them for a readiness report for a force to possible visit the former Imperial colony of Anikatia in a show of solidarity. With one admiral commenting that "The seventh fleet is currently at the Altrenian colony of Nymphe and definitely in range." BNN has yet to confirm these reports.

A report released by the Military Soviet of the CSU confirmed that the Naga-1 was detonated in the Wai Lin Bay Testing Range at 11:32AM. The air-dropped weapon detonated at roughly 4KM above ocean level with an alleged yield of 50 Megatons (MT). The CSU confirmed that the fallout was being pushed further out to sea by winds from the Central Ocean.

Leader of the opposition, Theodore Lechance, was quick to jump on the issue. Calling the actions by the government "hypocritical" and insisting that this further highlighting "Davies' lack of both balls and a backbone." he further claimed that attempts by the Prime Minister to delay the elections were "petty, undemocratic, and very much illegal." and vowed that the people would not take kindly to another delay in elections.

General Elections were slayed for January 2014, but events have forced them to be rescheduled to August.

Pope Pius condemns Chyekish nuclear tests

Pope Pius III has condemned the tests and the presence of nuclear weapons in Pardes

26thJuly, 2014| 12.00 PM PCT | înregistrate| By: Aureliu Tudor

His Holiness Pope Pius III, has spoken out against the Chyekish Union's nuclear tests as a 'major threat to Pardesi security and harmony', urging his government to take diplomatic action to ensure that the communist regime is denied further nuclear development. This comes after numerous Pardesi states have also condemned the tests, with Prestonia, Valinor, Anikatia and Emmeria all giving their condemnations within a matter of days of the tests. Consul Octavian Ceaușescu has condemned the tests as 'the emergence of a serious marxist threat backed up by weapons of mass destruction.' His Holiness however took a less ideological approach during his speech this morning.

Speaking to reporters and the members of the Papal Continuining Committee, Pope Pius condemned the existance of nuclear weapons within Pardes, saying, "Some may say that these weapons are a good deterrent, indeed they are, but they are also capable weapons of an offensive nature that would shatter the boundaries of humanity's spirit. If used offensively, they would cause unimaginable pain, grief and death. Not only would they turn people to ash or smouldering remains, but they would then condemn the survivors to radiation poisoning, destroying them from within. These weapons are unholy, these weapons are capable of a great evil, I urge the community of nations that makes Pardes, to stand united in halting their proliferation, we must not let these hideous weapons spread to unsavoury regimes and be tools in the machinations of less honourable governments."

Responses from the Papal Republic's Senators have been much more heated in nature, Senator Aurelius Istrati when addressing the Senate this morning, said "We must not wait any day longer, we must smash the skull of this marxist snake before it builds itself a arsenal of nuclear weapons it will not question to use on innocents, who do not suscribe the heretical poison of Marx, we must cut out the Cheykish Union's jaw and strip it, of all its nuclear weapons before it is too late."

In a rare event of Senatorial unity, NCDP leader, Senator Romulus Maior stood and addressed the Senate, "I completely agree with my esteemed friend, we must address this crisis with complete focus, We all know that this nation's efforts and energy has been on securing the freedom of Drakkar, which yesterday declared itself independent, they will fight on, let us now fight for our own national security. I recommend to the honourable Consul, that he and his government make immediately efforts to place serious sanctions upon the Cheykish Union, starve them of the quality goods they need."

Satellites belonging to the Inter-Services Intelligence agency have confirmed both ICBM launches and nuclear tests, further confirmation that a dangerous rogue state is in the process of developing nuclear weapons. According to a statement by the Foreign Ministry, Foreign Minister Mircea Basescu will travel to Anikatia for formal talks with President Niklas Bykov over the crisis. It has also been reported that the Papal Republic will back OPA Resolution 0010, which bans all nuclear testing, in space, in the oceans and on land.

Speaking further, Pope Pius III said, "I pray that these vile weapons be put aside, destroyed for the sake of continued peace and security of all peoples in Pardes. I pray that the situation in eastern Pardes is brought to an end peacefully, I pray that the nations of pardes can stand together hand in hand against this unprecedented threat to our regional harmony. Let us put out this nuclear fire with diplomacy, for we will find it much more satisfaying and securing."

Autarchess Valeriya Agaard "We are calling for a immediate halt in these dangerous and provocative nuclear tests"
"The Imperial Dominion Is seriously considering sanctions" says Minister of Foregin Affairs

Imperial Dominion Troops during a joint-exercise in Anikatia last year, these units are reporting small but increasing levels of radioactivity close to their bases in Anikatia

Cinigrad, Estovakiva - The Chyekish Soviet Union conducted its first nuclear test on Thursday in defiance of OPA resolutions which has drawn it many condemnations from around the region from CDI-nations and RCO-nations alike, including many of its non-aligned neighbors. It faces considerable sanctions alongside Sutadotazu which has also warned that it will conduct similar nuclear tests which has caused alarm among eastern nations.

Currently, the Imperial Dominion is considering putting sanctions upon the CSU and Sutadotazu as a coherent effort together with Anikatia and other countries. Autarchess Valeriya Agaard also announced that the Imperial Dominion would back OPA Resolution 0010, which bans all nuclear testing, in space, in the oceans and on land.

Autarchess Valeriya Agaard did also speak out against these nuclear tests calling them dangerous and volatile. In addition, that the test has indeed been conducted irresponsible for modern and civilized nations in the 21th century, with none to little thought on the consequences afterwards.

"The Imperial Dominion will follow Anikatia in their sanctions however ours will be more economical rather than military in nature, and shall be aimed at the economy of the CSU and Sutadotazu should they continue their nuclear tests even after OPA Resolution 0010 have passed. This is not how responsible and civilized nations conduct themselves in the 21th century, and is a grave violation of protocol within the regional community which is why we urge the Chyekish Soviet Union and Sutadotazu to cancel any further tests or consequences will be felt."

Estovakiva has as well offered aid in terms of Chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear defense to Anikatia as it expected to be lightly showered in radioactivity emiting from the recent fifty-megaton nuclear test conducted by the CSU.

Furthermore High Admiral Steingrímur hinted that the Imperial Dominion Navy, has already deployed two of its SIGNIT/ELINT surface ships combined with a Missile Range Instrumentation Ship to eastern Pardes. To monitor the expected nuclear tests closely. These ships are to operate from the imperial naval base in Anikatia and will adhere to international maritime laws, it is expected that the number of ships operating from said naval base is to increase as the Imperial Dominion will show its solidarity to Anikatia during this trying time.

Foreign Minister Nobelstein: Further "Provocative Actions" Will "Not Be Tolerated."

BUKENIA, NEW BELHAVIA — Ending two days of public silence over back-to-back nuclear tests by rogue states in the Pardesi Far East, President Eli Goldman addressed the escalating crisis following a rousing speech at a political rally for Imperial Senate candidate Joshua Gold, the mayor of Asland province's largest city, Bukenia. At a press event afterwards, he took a question on the Far East nuclear tests. "I categorically reject the validity of these so-called 'justified' nuclear tests in the Far East, and call on the rogue regimes perpetuating them that their actions will further isolate them as regional pariahs, and if they truly wish to be productive and responsible members of the regional community, to bring a halt to these tests immediately." He added grimly: "These tests are, without a second guess, ludicrously irresponsible, a threat to regional stability, and denigrating to our shared environment," his comments echoing Emmerian President Alex Vaziri's earlier this evening. "I stand with all responsible actors - from Belhavian allies such as Alleghania and Emmeria to nearby powers such Anikatia, Valinor, and Prestonia - to oppose these destabilizing events and call upon the rogue states causing them to reconsider their actions."

Imperial Foreign Minister Daniel Nobelstein, standing by Goldman's side, followed up that "further provocations on this level will not be tolerated. Every Pardesi actor - even those who find themselves on opposite sides of regional issues frequently - have come together to author one thought: Stop. Enough of this petty geopolitical saber-rattling. Nuclear weapons are a profoundly dangerous thing, and no one will allow them to endanger our region's shared future."

Insiders: OPA Resolution 0010 'Almost Certain' To Pass With Joint CDI, RCO, and Non-Aligned Support

Imperial Foreign Ministry officials who are keeping an eye on the progress of Organization for Pardesi Affairs (OPA) Resolution #0010 note that it is "almost certain to pass muster with overwhelming support," one official said, who requested anonymity because they were not authorized to speak on the matter.

One aide on the Belhavian OPA ambassador's staff opined that "this kind of overwhelming, cross-geopolitical support for a resolution is astounding, but it sends a clear message to the Far East rogue regimes: No one backs their actions. If this isn't a sign their actions are blatantly unreasonable, I don't know what is. The region has, surprisingly, united on this: these tests must come to an end."

Scientists: Nuclear Fallout From Tests Likely To Harm Broader Far East Area

Dr. Evan Reiss, the lead meteorologist at the Imperial Weather Center in Freeport, Belhavia, told reporters that "multiple actors, from what I understand, are conducting air, water, and land contamination tests in the wake of these tests. Interim data from these operations suggest that southern Prestonia will be hit with damaging environmental degradation. In addition, we are closely tracking the change in prevailing wind patterns. At current computer trajectories, both northern Valinor and parts of eastern Anikatia will be hit with residual fallout material that will endanger the air, water, and land it comes in contact with."

Reiss concluded by saying that "available weather instruments in eastern Pardes are being mobilized, including civilian and military assets, to fully ascertain the destructive fallout from these tests. Multiple countries in the affected area are conducting investigations into climatic patterns to see how far this will spread."

Alleghanian meteorologist Orville Bellmeyer, a research associate at the Confederal Institute for Atmospheric Research, Salida, asserted that "Wherever this [fallout] hit, we will observe dangerous short- and medium-term affects down the road. Environmental impact from events such as this will be evident in the radiological footprint in affected areas up to ten years from now. This 'footprint' will have dangerous and illness-causing affects on the people, animals, and local ecosystems that it touches. For instance, these contaminents are soaked up into our habitat, into things that we eat and use. Studies from earlier nuclear use has shown decisively that this fallout will sicken and injury a multitude of organisms and environmental processes. We are coordinating with Belhavian, Emmerian, and Prestonian colleagues in a coordinated operation to test for radiological contamination."

Nuclear Tests Unite Region, Cross Geopolitical Divisions

In an unusual but positive sign, the nuclear tests have brought together geopolitical rivals who often disagree on most regional issues but have coalesced around a unified theme of halting the nuclear tests, and any further tests of a similar nature in the future. Countries in the Central Defense Initiative (CDI) and the oft-called "Free Pardes" see their decrying of the tests joined by opposing geopolitical actors such as Rodarion and Estovakiva, who have similarly joined the chorus denouncing the rogue states' nuclear tests and have found common cause in OPA Resolution 0010.

OPA's status as a regional forum and its ability to pass binding, region-wide resolutions are often proxy fights for opposing priorities and values between CDI and Romula Cooperation Organization (RCO) member-states; however, in the last forty-eight hours, both sides have come together and pledged their support to pass Res. 0010, which will outlaw nuclear tests and levy penalties on nation-states that defy this ordinance.

When told of Rodarion Pope Pius II's fiery broadside condemnation against the tests, President Goldman is reported to have remarked to Foreign Minister Nobelstein, "For once, the Pope and I are in complete agreement," adding, "Well-said, Your Holiness, well-said," according to a source in the room at the time. However, the Presidential Palace declined to comment on our inquiries to confirm this rumor.

Hank Abramowitz, a regional geopolitics analyst at the non-partisan Center for Regional Studies in Dakos, N.B., argued that "when you see the likes of Emmeria and Belhavia with Rodarion and Estovakiva on the same side publicly, that's a big deal. With a unified front being put up by governments across Pardes, no matter who is pro-CDI, pro-RCO, or neutral, it's clear this issue is straight forward. If the rogue states of the Far East fail to take head, they may wake up tomorrow with a region-wide consensus to take stronger actions to curtail these destructive nuclear tests. This 'Astra Compact' won't last long."

KARŌTO (SP) -
Image
A high-exposure photograph of the missile launch, July 26.
At 2:35 AM Karōto time on 26 July, the Sutādōtāzu Grand Air Service detonated a 3 kiloton nuclear warhead at an altitude of 520 kilometers. The Sutādōtāzu Space Agency released a brief press statement this morning revealing details about the test. Apparently, the warhead was delivered by an intercontinental ballistic missile in use by the Air Service's Missile Command. The warhead was put on an orbital trajectory (possibly to avoid the risk if something had went wrong while the warhead was on a sub-orbital ballistic trajectory), completing one full rotation of the Earth before detonating above extraregional waters. The press briefing stated that, "the warhead was detonated with consideration to the modern regional community. No Pardesi satellites, stations, shuttles, or assets with declared and mapped orbits were within the affected area." This is the first of a string of nuclear tests announced by the Sutādōtā War Department, coming at a time when tensions over nuclear activity have been higher.

When questioned as to the possible political ramifications due to the test, Dr. Haru Nakamate of the SSA said, "This test is within our right to conduct. OPA Resolution 0010, despite its support, has not yet been passed. We have gathered much useful data which will be used to help our independent development of a new nuclear pulse propulsion system. As to the further tests which the War Department plans to conduct after the resolution's probable passing is not for me to say. All I can say is is that this will probably be the final nuclear detonation conducted in cooperation with the Sutādōtāzu Space Agency this year."

When asked about the possible environmental impacts and the possible danger of in-space collisions due to space debris, Dr. Nakamate refused to comment.

There has been a consistent pattern, with officials from the War Department and Diplomatic Corps refusing to comment on the outcry which has burst out from the international community regarding the CSU's recent nuclear tests. However, with this most recent high altitude test and the War Department's plan to conduct at least five more before the year us up, it is not likely that the passage of Resolution 0010 will stop or even slow the testing. Thus far, no nation has officially supported these tests, with virtually every nation in the region unilaterally supporting Resolution 0010, with the except of the Chyekish Soviet Union and Sutādōtāzu. The consequences of further testing? Economic sanctions, perhaps even military action and a naval blockade of the two Eastern powers.

Sutādōtāzu trade could take a hit if nations, most notably Belfras and Anikatia, chose to boycott Sutādōtā products. Although Sutādōtāzu trades mostly with the CSU and extraregional nations, Sutādōtāzu still imports a fair amount of western oil. Over the forty year arms race between Sutādōtāzu and the CSU, Anikatia and Belfras have been the chief providers of military hardware to Sutādōtāzu. This does not bode well for the Sutādōtā military, which could potentially be butted out of future advances of military technology, and could even lose its leases on some hardware, including the Anikatian Ny-122 strategic bombers. Unless the CSU or Sutādōtāzu's tests stray into the aggressive territory and political rhetoric becomes inflammatory, war is probably not on the horizon.

The key exception may be the nation of Valinor, which has made several outlandish demands. There have even been rumors that Valinor military interceptors have orders to shoot down launch vehicles carrying Chyek warheads; a rumor so inexplicably outrageous and irresponsible that it is in all likelihood false.

Since the first test of the Chyekish Naga-1 and the government's initial announcement of cooperation with the Chyeks, the Patriarchy has been on a media blackout, with the semi-autonomous SSA being the only organization to comment. Maybe they're just trying to dodge the international blowback, or are just waiting until the spotlight hits Sutādōtāzu to respond. In either case, SP has not been able to get any official statement from the War Department. We will not know exactly what will be happening until then, but, it seems like the government is trying to minimize the repercussions by maximizing transparency. It is odd to see the SSA reveal typically classified details of nuclear tests. A way to keep public outcry down while still carrying out the tests? Who knows. There has been, admittedly, minimal opposition from the public regarding the tests, with the largely Patriotic Party dominated capital region fully supporting defiance of western encroachment.

Meanwhile, home naval fleets have been put on high alert, with orders to stop foreign military vessels from entering Sutādōtā waters.

”WE ARE NOT IMPRESSED” SAID PM ON FAR EASTERN NUCLEAR TESTS

”Dangerous, irresponsible and downright churlish”

Image

Mathilda Ochibwe, Saturday Defence Column
26/07/2014

As the shockwave of the serial nuclear tests conducted by the CSU and Sutādōtāzu continues to reverberate in Pardes, the Prime Minister has condemned the far eastern powers’ latest show of force in an extraordinary session held in parliament today to discuss the latest developments.

”Infantile display”

“We are not impressed ... by the series of nuclear tests," said Leanne Whittaker during the session. "Tension in Pardes has risen to unprecedented heights due to the dangerous, irresponsible and downright churlish behaviour of two nations, aptly termed as ‘rogue’ by the Belhavian president recently. Instead of making positive contributions to the regional community by behaving in a civilised fashion, these two countries, one a rabidly ethno-nationalist entity with disturbing expansionist tendencies, the other an old-fashioned repressive communist state, have decided to engage in an infantile, attention-seeking display of … well, the honourable Members get the idea.”

“On the other hand, they’ve managed to bring about an unprecedented consensus among CDI, RCO and unaligned nations in condemnation of their antics, so perhaps we ought to offer ha hearty congratulation on a job well done instead?”

Experts baffled

The rapid turn of events in south east Pardes has completely surprised and confounded experts and observers of the area, including reportedly a good many top Foreign Office analysts. The rapprochement of the two former implacable foes was not entirely unpredicted, as they realise that military rivalry is far costlier than economic cooperation. The subsequent dramatic demonstration of their nuclear arsenals, however, was certainly an extraordinary event.

There has reportedly been some discussion within the admiralty to dispatch vessels of the New Shelvoy Station to observe the effects of the tests, especially with regards to the extent of the fallout hazard and their potential impact to Arthuristan and friendly merchant traffic

Minister of Foreign Affairs Elias Iordanou speaking to Parliament this afternoon Kavala Herald photo

Valtos, Valinor — In less then forty eight hours, the rogue nations of the Chyekish Socialist Union and Sutadoatzu have conducted three tests; the CSU testing a 50 megaton bomb and then an intercontinental ballistic missile carrying the same yield warhead and now Sutadoatzu has tested a three kiloton on a similar ballistic missile which is more nuclear matter expended in the last two decades in the history of Pardes, igniting a firestorm inside Parliament and throughout our entire country.

Yesterday evening, the Prime Minister confirmed that all units carrying the MIM-31 Vlegga, an anti-ballistic missile, had been forward deployed to AFB Gashak, AFB Rindinhall and AFB Hrolfil, the three closest bases to the CSU and most definitely within the Vlegga's operational range if they were ordered to intercept any further missile tests, which has been confirmed by numerous unnamed sources that the Herald has uncovered. In addition to this, several civilians, mostly independent mariners in the channel, have said they spotted munition ships linking up with the 7th Battle Group and unloading what appeared to be a navalized verision of the Vlegga, which given the Battle Group's current positions just due south of the CSU would make it even more effective for missile interceptions. Parliament also has passed sanctions against high ranking foreign officials and now some say Parliament may even be considering strikes to render the CSU inable to operate nuclear weapons; this whole affair igniring drastic fears over the 1973 incident around the Orlessian deployment of a tactical nuclear weapon against the battle group centered around the VRS Marie, a carrier sent to retrieve the Spear of Atlos from Orlessia which had been stolen weeks prior. The incident sparked three religious wars which we came out on the wrong end of and has ensured that the most recent two generations hold a deep fear of anything containing the word nuclear. It took Parliament 4 years to even let the military use it as a power plant on their carriers, and the Ministry of Interior has refused to consider nuclear power, so one could see how this could make many of us fearful. In perhaps a bid to calm us, and themselves, Foreign Minister Elias Iordanou has invited dignitaries from members of the Central Defence Initiative, a rival of the Romula Cooperative Organization, to join himself, Prime Minister Irenaeus and the King in a high level diplomatic summit. The Foreign Minister insisted the agenda was classified but that details of the summit would be released following the conclusion of the summit, which is set to begin on Monday and conclude on Wednesday at the latest. Attending dignitarties would include the Emmerian Secretary of State Alia Kouri, the Belhavian Foreign Minister Daniel Nobelstein, the Western Confederate Secretary of State Dick Memphis as well as the Itailian Foreign Minister Atticus Flavius Severin

KARŌTO (SP) -
Image
Ikugo Aku gives press conference in front of the Karōto Mall, July 27.
Former Press Secretary to the Patriarch, Ikugo Aku, gave a press conference today in front of the Karōto Mall, accusing the state of Valinor of trying to "instigate a conflict." This statement has come about after three days of heightened tensions, during which three nuclear detonations occurred. The state of Valinor, located on Kasaishima's southern end, has been most militant about the tests, demanding the CSU destroys its entire arsenal of nuclear warheads, and threatening to shoot down Chyekish ballistic missiles. The world has been watching, and the world has almost unanimously condemned Sutādōtā and Chyekish tests, as evidenced by the overwhelming support for Resolution 0010.

While the Sutādōtā government has not yet offered an official statement regarding the tests, Mr. Aku's attitude towards the situation may give some insight on what the Patriarch's advisers are thinking. Ikugo Aku is no longer affiliated with the Patrirachy, although he does own several holding companies with massive stakes in the Chyekish Soviet Union and is a renowned member of the Patriotic Party. He served as the Patriarch's Press Secretary for ten years, before resigning after facing charges of insider trading.

During the press conference, Mr. Aku called the Valinor government "rash, unreasonable, and volatile." Just two days ago, the Valinor's Prince Seleukos threatened that it would hold the CSU government responsible if its people did not, possibly foreshadowing a possible invasion and seizure of nuclear materials. Valinor has frozen the assets of several dozen Chyekish government officials and, threatened to intercept Chyekish ballistic missiles, and now appears to be rubbing elbows with the Central Defence Initiative.

Mr. Aku said that, "The Eastern Powers must remain strong in these rough times, and resist the encroachment of the malicious west and ignorant south. For a state which has complained so adamantly about the environmental impact of fallout drift, no mention of the impact of a missile equipped with a warhead being shot down over Pardes has been made." He also said, "I sympathize with the Valinese over the incident of 1973. The Sutādōtāzu government condemned the action and, in my opinion, the employment of nuclear weapons on the tactical level is grossly irresponsible. However, the safety of Sutādōtāzu and the advancement of science comes first. No matter how afraid the Valinese are of the atom, we will continue to deploy nuclear weapons as a deterrent to our enemies and to advance our knowledge of the universe."

Ikugo Aku's holding companies own roughly thirty percent of Sutādōtāzu's private space exploration firms. His companies have also traditionally been investors in the Sutādōtā Organization of Aeronautical Research (SOAR), logically placing him as a huge supporter of the recent tests. This sentiment has been reverberated throughout the Patriotic Party, although red advisers in the executive office have not commented. Ryū Yamashi, Vice Chair of the Patriotic Party of Sutādōtazu and Speaker of the Parliament has praised the tests, stating, "Sutādōtazu influence must be enforced. It is in the best interest of all Sutādōta for the Patriarch not to bow to the demands of the leftist west."

This comment could seem rather inflammatory, if not incredibly ironic, as the CSU is a Communist state. However, Mr. Yamashi's comments will likely carry little to no weight in Sutādōtazu foreign policy, as the recently formed Astra Compact with bind the fates of the two nations.

From reports in the Bay, it would seem as though the Fourth Fleet has been pulled form patrols near Ashizwe and stationed in Karōto. Activity at the Karōto Air Base has been been greater as Ay-05's soar through the capital's skies, bound for the Sutādōta-Chyekish border. From local call ins, it would also seem as though a portion of Sutādōta's Marine reserves have also been recalled in light of the tensions. There has been no comment from the Sutādōta government as to their next nuclear test.
