History

Raysia is the fourth planet in what has come to be known as the Raysia system, a coreworld in the Milky Way Galaxy about 8000 light years from the Original Capsule Corporation Prime World, Zarahemla. The world was anciently seeded by the Capsule Corporation, and with CC's fall the colony fell into the bronze age... cut off from its technological supply, and forgotten. They progressed through to the Industrial, aerospace, and information ages after less than a 1000 years. Their technological evolution has been rather non-standard, due to the lack of sufficient fossil-fuels on the planet. Plastics are rarer than metals, oil is an extremely limited-use energy source. Most of their equipment, up until the space age, has been steam or rocket powered. Because of these limitations, new and objective viewpoints of aerodynamics, space travel, physics, and laws of the universe, have been discovered.

Raysians are anciently Terran in origin, and thus are naturally subject to the normal flaws and advantages of earth-origin humans. However, in seeding the colony that became their homeworld, the Capsule Corporation selected some of the best and brightest engineers to inhabit this planet. Some of the original colonists had Capsule Corporation schematics encoded into their genetic memory, passing down advanced knowledge from generation to generation until the world's tech level was sufficient enough to construct the spaceworthy technologies.

A race of naturally proficient engineers, they have immensely researched bio-effective nanotechnology, and artificial intelligence, and technologies never even conceived by other nations. Fiercely independent as a nation, they seek to develop on their own path rather than utilize foreign technologies.

They entered the ESUS the instant following their development of the FTL technologies necessary to free them from their world. They are still very new to space travel, but they are naturally quick-learners.

They seek to learn more about their ancestor nation, the Capsule Corporation (whom they refer to as "The Guardians"), and feel a compulsion to reclaim the worlds, rights, and possessions of the former nation.

Ambitions

Right now, the Raysians seek only to better themselves, develop their technologies, and help those in need. When the time comes that their ships can go into full production, they have ambitions to reclaim the position in the interstellar markets that the Capsule Corporation once had. Colonies currently in development will soon be brokered to the highest bidding nation. Ships that have been combat-tested will be produced in large number to aid other nations in their wars.

The Raysian Calendar, simply, is based around a meridian marking their first successful FTL test, marking their entrance to the interstellar community. Typical notation example: +018 = 18 years after FTL (Read: "Plus Oh-Eighteen")

Raysia's Military

The Raysian Milita Force is a small spaceborne fleet of various 1st generation vessels. Their primary mission is homeworld security, but they also guard the many Raysian colonies that are beginning to spring up around the galaxy. Many of their ships are self-sufficient, designed to roam and explore the galaxy unaided, authorized to take mercenary jobs as they see fit.

Militia structure is very civillian in nature, with almost no rank structure at all. Crewmen live onboard their ships without rank or uniform, electing their commander by popular vote (or occasionally by challenge), who in turns calls senior officers to serve under him (or her).

The majority of the fleet consists of fresh vessels created by AdamWorks, the R&D division of the Raysian Aerospace Corporation. The ships have not come into full production yet, so there are but a limited number. Fresh crews, bold captains, and weapons just waiting to see combat. They seek mainly to improve their skills and unleash the massive potential of their innovative little ships. They will often take up mercenary jobs for free, as an act of service to those in need, or even just as an oppurtunity to push buttons they haven't had a chance to push yet.

The current Raysian Militia Force [+018*]:
1 Firebird-Class Heavy Assault FoldShip
1 Archer-Class Carrier FoldShip
7 Kryptonite-Class Tactical FoldShips [11 more planned**]
Gunship Complements: 60% of listed capacities
Infantry Complements: 7% of listed capacities

*The year on the Raysian Calendar in which this information was gathered
**Fleets are to be at planned levels by the year +024

The Militia has no extensive plans for expansion, as they mainly serve to develop their technologies further, not wage war.

Another CC world, Keflek VII, operates a fully-funtional military force, but they usually act separately as their own entity

The Known History of the Ancient Capsule Corporation

Image
An Old Capsule Corporation Document Stamp

Limited information is available on this once-great industrial nation that supplied warcraft to many of the extra-solar nations and empires.

From what historians can align, the Capsule group started on Earth, somewhere on the west coast of North America. When it developed its anti-gravity technology, it left earth in a mass exodus, moving teporarily to the Earth's moon. On Luna, they had a limited population, and left very little behind on earth.

On Luna, the corporation began to collect materials from mining the moon, and built ships. With these ships, and raw materials, they relocated again to Neptune's moon, Triton. There, they established a large space shipyards, tethered to a massive colony skyscraper. This complex was known as "Triton City." There, the corporation settled for the next few centuries. While on Triton, the Capsule Corporation became known as a ship supplier. First starting out as a relatively small business, then quickly expanding, from demand, into a market power.

The CC group had some of the best engineering minds in the verse, but some of their clearly-inspired designs and concepts seemed just outside of reach of reality. Something was leading them, but they couldn't figure out how to go where the muse was directing. Then, after a trade agreement with an alien race known only as the LGMs (possibly a descriptive acronym for "Little Green Men"), they acquired the technology known as Chlorophusion. With infinitely scalable organic fusion power, they could operate their designs.

Immediately, they began project Kryptonite. This program introduced the 3 technologies that would come to define every tech in the Capsule Nation. Chlorophusion Control, Farad Defense Systems, and Hyperspace Fold FTL Drives. With these 3 techs, the Corporation finally became on level with the galaxy, and before the end of that same decade, they were an official superpower in the spacecraft market.

Within a century, the Capsule Corporation became known as some of the strongest colonizers in the newly organized ESUS. They migrated over the next while towards several different planets, the majority landing and populating the Terra-like core-world of Zarahemla.

The rest of the story is pretty basic, just seeking to survive. Until suddenly, after nearly 500 years as a Market superpower, the corporation suffered a massive collapse. A combination of pride, disorder, rebellion, and coup d'etats from rogue groups, crushed the Capsule Corporation quicker than anyone could have ever imagined.

The Zarahemla War followed, and the power-vacuum that existed temporarily on all Capsule colonies brought bidders and conquerers from all over the galaxy into posession of the Capsulian Worlds.

Current Status of the Capsule Corporation

The race and corporation have since been scattered, and for a millenium no one claimed their decent.

Raysia, a newly spacebroken nation, has claimed, through an unexplained appointment, and a drive of manifesting their destiny, that they are the rebirth of the Capsule Corporation. The muse that inspires them is almost identical to that of the Ancient group that the Raysians call "The Guardians."

Raysians are eager to learn more of the ancient Guardians, and can be looked to for further information.

As far as any databases go, only one exists... an old catalog of Capsule Corporation Warcraft, found here:
http://www.bateshome.com/jordan/ccdex.htm

UPDATE:
The Capsule Corporation finally opened up the old shipyards and is manufacturing some of the classic ships!

Raysian Military Technology

Postby Capsule Corporation » Sat Jul 18, 2009 9:17 pm

Raysian Military Technology
[The info in this factbook page has been copied from the Raysian and CC pages of the ESUSWiki]

This page is dedicated to brief explanations of some of Raysia's unique technologies. Raysia is relatively young at the interstellar scene, but is aided by unknown muses. Their experience is less than 15 years spent with FTL capabilities, as of their entrance to the ESUS.

Contents
- Organic Zero-Point Cells [OZP Cells]
- Transactory Fold Drive
- Virtual Vacuum Propulsion [VILE] Drive
- Defensive Barrier Technology
- LiquidMetal Armor
- EM Cannons
- Nanoscale Enhancement Modules

Organic Zero-Point Cells [OZP Cells][float=right]Image[/float]

After learning about Zero-Point energy from the research of other nations across the Galaxy, Raysia determined to create its own version, in a scalable form. With these cells, harvested and controlled, energy can be generated at nearly e=mc^2 levels. OZP Cells were genetically engineered to break down the atoms inside of their fuel supply at the subatomic level, squeezing the energy out of the components towards the once-thought-fictional zero-point energy level, and channeling it towards a circuit or sea of other cells. This technology can potentially power nano-scale technology, and currently powers (grouped in large control chambers) even large starships.

Transactory Fold Drive

The simplest explanation of this technology is that when traveling through space, at any velocity, energy is used over time to accelerate the ship to speed, and then decelerate at the destination. Space travel is a product of time, acceleration to speed, distance, efficiency, deceleration... equaling energy spent. This can easily be likened to getting a loan with an absurd interest rate... because one can not afford to pay a large price at once, he must take out a loan and pay over time. Space travel at any sublight speed is horribly inefficient, and would be like paying upwards of 500,000% interest on such a loan, and being able to only touch upon the minimum payment while taking years to ever get the principle paid off. So, in order to get around this, Raysian Scientists theorized that one could simply satisfy the "up front price" with a simple transaction of energy, and instead of traveling from point a to point b, the universe simply accepts the payment of energy, and you are no longer at point a, but are now at point b... the concept of "travel" becoming unnecessary.

After initial testing and proving of the concept, the Transactory Space Fold Drive is integrated into a ship's Barrier systems, allowing a bubble for the energy to offer itself to what has easily been dubbed "The Law," meaning the laws of the universe, that must be fulfilled. The energy requirement is paid in full, and the universe must comply by granting the ship's request in return for its sacrifice of energy.
The TSF Drive is capable of folds in short range, and at quick recoil.. making a short series of "skips" possible as long as the full charge of the onboard capacitors is not exhausted. Aiming the drive at long distances is very inaccurate, as the TSF's energy is simply inputted a vector and distance to travel. A short, corrective fold may be necessary to adjust position on a course along the way to a far-away destination. This can potentially result in accidental folds inside an unforeseen moon, or into an enemy force if trying to join a battle too urgently. Thus, it is best to enter the outer rim of a system, rescan, and then fold to a precise location. Subspace beacons, deployed before a fold, can increase accuracy to an exact destination in space.

When used in atmosphere, the sudden existence of a vacuum will likely create loud booms in the atmosphere... cities below beware!

The folds have a maximum range of 2400 ly, with an accurate range (without beacon) of 1200 ly. There is no minimum range. Conservation of momentum is the default operating principle, but with advanced calculations and high energy requirements, energy that would normally go into folding can be used for a zero-acceleration boost in speed.

Zero-Acceleration (ZXL) Drive

The ZXL Drive is really a function of the Transactory Fold Drive, and operates upon the same principle. Instead of transferring energy into a change in position, it imbues the vessel with an instant and acceleration-less change in velocity. If Acceleration is a change in velocity divided by time elapsed (which in this case is 0), then you get a number that does not exist. So, it's really a divided-by-zero rate of acceleration, but shortened to just zero-acceleration, or ZXL, for nomenclature.

Virtual Vacuum Propulsion [VILE] Drive

Another relatively simply explained technology. Airplane propellers, Wings, helicopter rotors, all create lift or thrust by creating a low-pressure area on top, and a high-pressure area underneath. The combination of a "sucking action" pulling up, and a motion of air thrown away from the body beneath, create a force, moving the body in a relative direction... That's an over-simplification, but it applies adequately when describing the VILE Drive.

The VILE system uses a one-way force field, Causing air on one side to act and flow as if it were against a vacuum... like blowing a hole in the side of an airplane or spacecraft. The air, as according to its standing directive, flows quickly from high pressure to low pressure. Upon reaching the other side, it realizes that it is in face -not- in a vacuum, but a high pressure zone, and throws itself away from the field. This Virtual Vacuum creates suction at up to -14psi, and also propelling exhaust opposite.

Turned into a propulsion device, the VILE Drive is capable of very efficient subsonic speeds, and can easily be used to create lift or thrust. The Drive, properly ducted and vented, can take the place of impractically large rotors, propellers, wings, and lifting envelopes as found in airships.

In examples like the Kryptonite-Class, the VILE system can be used to defy gravity, creating a flow of air around the ship allowing it to stay buoyant in the atmosphere at up to 50,000 feet.

The VILE Drive can in fact be used in any fluid environment (ie: air, water, etc.), but not in space, as there is no noteworthy fluid in the vacuum of space. Ion Drives or rocket motors are needed in order to maneuver in space. However, in certain systems, like on the Kumen, the VILE drives can be easily reconfigured into a type of Ion Engine, given a limited fuel source to use as a projected exhaust.

VILE (technically VVILE) stands for Virtual Vacuum Impelling Laminar Effluxuation

Defensive Barrier Technology

A field of plasma, forming an enveloping shell between a generator similar to a plasma engine and a charged receiver. It is projected tangentially to the hull. The field absorbs ionic and plasma weaponry, and greatly weakens beam weaponry. Unfortunately the system uses a lot of energy, and is only used in short intervals as a barrier. It is based on the same system as the VILE drive. Overlapping shields provide more full coverage, and double up shields in critical areas. The Fold System is integrated into the emitters.

LiquidMetal Armor

This is the armor used on all the Raysian Capital ships, and a close similarity of the armor on the smaller craft.

Usually, the armor is pretty much as diagramed in the picture above, using the outer hull to take light projectile fire, with the elasticity and strength of the LiquidMetal able to bounce small arms and bullets etc. off the hull. To absorb high-velocity/high-mass projectiles, the LiquidMetal can give way into the steel supports below it, into the next layer of armor, absorbinbg a good deal of the shock before it can hit the main titanium hull. It's a simple design, but we find it to be effective.

EM Cannons

The Electromagnetic Cannon has several firing modes. It may act as a Rail Cannon, firing 200kg slugs at 100 km/s; or a Flechette Cannon, firing heavy shards of metal in a buckshot style; or as a large Energy cannon. The cannon can be easily reconfigured to fire different energies or ammunitions. Some are mounted on a turret with adjustable direction, pitch, and in some cases elevation. All EM Cannons double as torpedo tubes, using essentially the same technology as any torpedo launcher anyway.

Nanoscale Enhancement Modules

Still under experimentation and trial. Click to view progress.

A Retroactive Truth

Postby Capsule Corporation » Sun Jul 19, 2009 8:50 pm

History and Factbook Info on Keflek VII:

The Keflek system held what been identified by Raysian astronomers for decades as the closest inhabitable world, lying only about 1800 light years from the planet that would soon become the Prime World of the Capsule Corporation. The seventh planet, studied by long range telescope for years, was to be the first target for colonization by the capitalistic race.

In the year that is now the meridian of time on the Raysian calendar, their first FTL-capable ship successfully reached Keflek VII. This marked the entrance of Raysia into the galaxy. This extremely young world, though guided by their ancestors, quickly progressed through different ages and phases of technology.

The Firebird was the first ship to carry the experimental Transactory Fold Drive, and in its first few months of operations the crew spent every bit of time they could in orbit over Keflek VII. They gathered information about the planet's atmosphere and natural resources, and confirmed every one of their hopes. The planet had once been a colony of the ancient Capsule Corporation, the race the Raysians had come to call the Guardians. Legend had become truth, the dream had become real. The Guardians had abandoned the colony before their fall as an attempt to cut losses. The Raysians tried to maintain the colony, having purchased the property rights from the Capsule Corporation, but were unsuccessful. An older star chart would have shown the planet as a Capsule Corporation world, but after the fall it was completely lost in the paperwork, and failed to appear on updated system maps. With no trade routes, and nothing of interest nearby, the world had gone completely unnoticed. This lost world, still in a Jurassic state, lay within a single fold's range of Raysia.

The Raysian people, filled with a spirit of Manifest Destiny and a drive to explore, came to the new planet in the hundreds of millions, everybody wanting a share. It was colonized with a speed never before seen. To even refer to this world as a colony quickly became a horrendous understatement after the first 10 years, when its population reached 700 million. This was done through the construction of pre-fabricated shelters, a growing fleet of FoldShips, and use of the existing buildings on the planet.

Existing structures in the colony included a mining and manufacturing facility, which, though long abandoned, was quickly revived by the new colonists. After a few more years, the Capsule Corporation Advanced Defensive Aerospace Modifications group , known as AdamWorks, used the facilities begin production of ships for colonial defense. For a short while, AdamWorks held their headquarters on this new planet, but political differences caused the program to move back to Raysia, handing over the shipyards to the Capsule Corporation.

While Raysians, in general, tend to be isolationist and neutral, Keflekki seem to have a much more aggressive disposition. The Capsule Corporation keeps only a defensive militia to maintain their colonies, but the government of Keflek, now referred to as a Subsidiary Territory, has chosen to build for themselves a respectable armed force.

This world has recently joined the Imperial Republic Of the North (IRON), and is helping to patrol the border between the north and south, mainly around the core worlds.

Keflek VII operates a military consisting of a Defense Force, a Marine Force, and an Expeditionary Force.

[The info in this factbook page has been copied from the Raysian and CC pages of the ESUSWiki]

The 'RMF Riplakish' is the prototype of the Raysian Kryptonite-class FoldShip, modelled after an ancient Capsule Corporation design.

Image

Important Crewmembers:
CO: Commanding Elder Jace Laykress
Science Officer: Raimi

Jace Laykress

Commander of the 'Riplakish', Jace is a compassionate and light-hearted fellow, who tries to help others see what's best. He was elected as ship's commander because of his comprehension of both Psychology, Tactics, and Physics. A long-time employee of RaysiAero's AdamWorks division, he was one of the chief architects of the Kryptonite program, in charge of the Riplakish' construction and testing.

He guides his crew like a big brother, reminding everyone of their skills and callings onboard the ship. He has grown particularly fond of his new science officer, Raimi, and has been her best friend through the various struggles of her amnesia-like problems.

Raimi

Raimi was found in the thousand-year-old wreckage of a Capsule Corporation starship, no personal memory, but plenty of scientific knowledge. Her name was given to her after she could provide no identification for herself.

Unlike most amnesia cases, she was found with very minimal motor skills, almost like she had first learned to walk at age 18. Her history is still being discovered, but she was found in a biolab of the crashed 'CCSS Legacy' near the site where the ship's scientific AI used to be, but mysteriously vanished.

Speculations are that she was either created by the ship's AI in an attempt to give herself a human aide, or that she actually was the ship's Scientific Intelligence Core, downloaded into a host body. Possibly some combination of the two theories will be the truth.

Transactory Fold Drive:
Basic info and Alternate uses with the Kryptonite-class

The TSF Drive operates in realspace. The folds typically have a maximum range of 2400 ly, with an accurate range (without beacon) of 1200 ly. There is no minimum range. Conservation of momentum is the default operating principle, but with advanced calculations and high energy requirements, energy that would normally go into folding can be used for a zero-acceleration (ZXL) boost in speed.

The Kryptonite-Class FoldShip has a unique twin-hull design, capable of taking advantage of many aspects of the Transactory Drive. The basic principle is that one hull creates the field around the other hull, energizing the fields all together as one. The hangar bays also open into the space between these two hulls, creating a launch zone for the fighters and gunships. Just as the TSF drive's zero-acceleration (ZXL) function can be used to instantly convert an amount of stored energy into kinetic energy to change the ship's velocity without acceleration, a field can be erected in the space between the two hulls, propelling anything in the launch zone away from the ship without the inertial effects of acceleration. This can be used to launch a small ship at intercept speeds, or launch a slug at extremely high c-frac speeds.
Image
This small field created by the TSF drive can also be used to translocate the subject as well, to the full range of the fold drive itself. This function can be used to send a small gunship or shuttle a long distance, whether it's to a different location, or inside an enemy's cargo hold.

The diagram shows the coverages of the TSF fields. Since the TSF field operates within the same system as the defensive Barrier, the red also indicates the shield ranges.

The Red is also variable, and can be expanded to include a neighboring ship or other object.

The Kryptonite's massive capacitor banks and redundant power allows the ship to be fully charged for fold in about 5 minutes after a full discharge.

The Marks of the Raysians

Postby -Raysia- » Mon Dec 27, 2010 11:00 pm

The Marks of the Raysians

Image
[A Raysian woman (Gabrielle Majestic) of the Ascension Tribe, displaying personality traits ENTP (Extroverted, iNtuitive, Thinking, Perception) with Major traits of being a Guardian (peacekeeper/defense fighter) and Avian (flight/airborne), and a minor trait of a Tinkerer (engineering). She is a private contractor for the Raysian Militia Force, and serves as a ship's gunner and as a command Active on a special task force.]

All natural-born Raysians are embedded with genetic trackers that will, in infancy, develop and become apparent in visual form on their faces. The mark began over a millennium ago when the Capsule Corporation colonized the Raysian system. It started off as a genettomodding religious subculture that practiced radical honesty and favored a tailored learning system to people's personality tests. Using a personality marker system (similar to ancient-earth myers-briggs elements), the people were marked with tracers that indicated as to the individual's specific personality type.

Most appear in patterns etched in copper-based skin-pigmenters, within a blotch of color along the face, in varying positions... between shades of red or green, depending on heritage.

Though it started merely as a social experiment, this along with several other genetic modifications began to pass down through the generations until, after only a few hundred years, all Raysians bore these genetic tracers.

People rarely have interests or act contrary to their genetic predispositions, and when such an one comes forth, they are permitted exemption... but for the most part, people get sorted into schools and trades early on.

In many tribes of Raysia, the people tend to breed certain traits stronger, matching breeding relationships based on the strongest traits of the individuals. The process is not generally enforced, though people usually tend to mate with their matching personality types.

Due to the forthright display of personality types and talents, most Raysians hide little from even strangers, and are quite honest and blunt.. also making it nearly impossible for them to hold to arbitrary leadership structures and rules (like a military command structure.) Instead, most treat each other like equal brothers, respecting the callings of others to certain positions, and upholding their positions with the sustaining of a popular vote... though no one holds anyone higher than another or treats anyone with any more or less respect than the every other man. Not to be confused with anarchy, the Raysian people do hold themselves to a strong set of laws, but simply like to leave the majority of laws and rules up to common sense, allowing for the practice of free enterprise and free living.

Other than the 4 main personality indicators, many other sub-markings exist, displaying inclinations and talents. Some are listed below on the table of markings.

[Above images created by the lovely -Aiath-, as I have no 2d talent of my own  Thanks!]

Other Distinguishing Genetic Features

Raysians grow to maturity at a normal-human rate, but age after maturity at less than half the rate of normal. Most Raysians have a lifespan of around 180 years.

Anciently (during the time of the original Capsule Corporation), many people were injected with various grades of nanoscale robotic enhancements, which passed themselves down through many generations of breeding. After more than 400+ years of isolation from the rest of the corporation, the nanites became scarce and dormant, though granted few the 'knowledge of the Guardians', which is to say the ancient memories of information from the Capsule Corporation (usually vague and coming in the form of deep dreams or in deep meditation.)

Another ancient genettomod that has passed on through the generations presents itself in the form of random streaks of otherwise-unnatural haircolor, passed down from those who would anciently dye their hair permanently.

Raysians come in a variety of skin color and have largely split themselves into several tribes, usually focusing themselves into different cities.. though skin color has never been a factor of discrimination, merely an indicator of tribe.

Raysian clothing also tends to be rather unique, as during their isolation their manufacturing infrastructure was completely destroyed and had to be created from scratch. Their clothing is primative, but has also been regarded as 'comfortable.' Modesty standards vary, but most wear enough clothing to cover themselves.
