All Things Frozen (Frozen Discussion Thread)

Postby Elsa the Snow Queen » Thu Jun 26, 2014 9:43 pm

This is a thread to discuss the 2013 Disney-hit Frozen. If you have never watched Frozen before, you are welcome to stop by still and ask questions but the primary purpose of this thread is to discuss what we like about Frozen and what our impressions were as well as discussions about characters, plots, and stuff. Please do not post weird things like wanting Elsa to marry Lenin or Nazis invading Arendelle and I will request anyone who does stuff like this, if you know who I am talking about, to leave, based off of past experiences. As an OP, I will try to keep things interesting will cool polls and questions so keep up checking the OP for new stuff and don't hesitate to suggest polls and discussion topics about Frozen to me.

Okay, to start, here is my stuff on Frozen:
I personally am not the world's most avid fan of Disney. In fact, believe it or not, I actually used to kind of hate Disney. I watched some of the classics as a kid but they just never clicked with me and I only watched them once each. Now, I did not hate all Disney movies but I thought they were a little farfetched. So last winter of 2013. my sisters were getting really excited about a movie that came out called Frozen and they even bought dolls and the coloring book. Then my parents bought tickets to watch the movie but I requested to stay home and spend my time shooting up the Chinese and Russians in Battlefield 4 on my Xbox One. However, my dad said he would then make me pay for the ticket he bought since there was no refunds so I was like "whatever, I might as well." We went there and watched it and when we were done, I could not believe my eyes. Since then, I have become an avid fan of Disney movies and have even gained a small desire to want to go to Disneyland now. I have also opened my first tumblr account and am now heavily following all Frozen related blogs. I do not know what I love Frozen so much. Part of it has to do with how hot Queen Elsa (i have to be honest) but I also liked the plot twist about Hans being a bad guy. I also thought it cool that Elsa had no love interest as it now leaves her open for any ship I want. For that reason, I am partially afraid of any Frozen sequel that could possibly pair Elsa up with another person, although I shall also admit a sequel could be cool. So with that said, what was all your impressions of Frozen (if you are not a Frozen fan, please do not just post "this movie sucks" but you are welcome to debate with us about why you don't like it)

There was a stress metaphor they taught at a get-together once: "Everyone has a balloon. In this balloon, we stuff all of our fears, anxieties, stresses, heartbreaks, secrets, and other things. The more we shove in, the bigger the balloon gets. Everyone needs to be able to find a way to release air out of their balloon in a healthy, positive manner, or you'll just keep filling it up, and up, and up, and up, until one day it's going to blow."

I think "Frozen" was a great way of really putting this message into a good story, which I think it owes a lot of it's popularity to. In many other Disney movies, a moral presented tends to either fall on deaf ears to the more cynical ("believe in your dreams and they will always happen"), or may be sound, but only to a select portion of the audience (the younger faction). Frozen differentiated in it's message in that it is one that still really hits us all, no matter our age, outlook, or lifestyle, especially in this age where the push to be open about things rather than hiding out of fear of social shame is strongly felt. We all have things that stress us and make us have fear of ourselves, and one of the best ways to get over that pain is to have an unconditional support system, like what Anna gave to Elsa. In this way, we see ourselves in both the sisters and take something from them--like Elsa, we all keep things inside and wonder if we're good enough for the world, but by embracing ourselves and letting go of unnecessary fear, we find enormous strength. And like Anna, sometimes the best thing to do for a loved one struggling the same way is to just look them in the eye and say, "Hey. I want you to know that no matter what happens, I'm always going to be here for you, okay?" For so many people, just hearing those words is all they need. It's such a raw, simple, human thing that eludes so many of us, that it's truly astonishing when we feel it hit us in such a lovely, remarkable way.

And that's why I love Frozen. :p

Considering the previous thread was you spouting bullshit theories and not backing them up, thus disrupting productive conversations about the subject, I'm sure it can.

I hope they add Rasputin to the cast to counter her. I might actually watch it then.

That's exactly what the op means by the bold words. What does Elsa have to do with Rasputin? Noooothing!

Anyway, about the Dickens-ish book, he'd either be honoured or insulted that they used his title.
